The concept of “pre-living” the catastrophe reminds me of when the rapper T.I. was facing a prison sentence about a year away. A media person asked ‘are you dreading the coming sentence’ and he said something along the lines of ‘No, I only want to do my time once.’

Another good approach is to be Stoic about it. Ask yourself, "What is in my immediate control, and what is not in my control?" Let me focus on what I can control."
Still struggling with this. I remember adrenaline getting the best of me when I first competed as a white belt many years ago. Thanks for this vid

Another thing that helped me with turbulance is a friend of mine who is a flight attendant told me once it was so bad that the food tray bounced up and hit the ceiling of the plane. Even then the plane was in no actual danger of crashing. That's actually the main reason for seat belts, the plane will sometimes bump so hard you can bang your head on the ceiling. But even then the plane won't crash.

There are books like Mindsight that provide a fantastic neuroscientific and psychological analysis on anxiety and fear; he speaks very closely to what you have to say. Lots of it involves mindfulness (getting out of your own movie), focusing on the present moment, and the body, and it speaks deeply on how our perfectly adaptive traits (flight, fight, freeze) and our ability to assign meaning to events/ordering things in one's mind, become hijacked by events/trauma loops.
Really good book, I'll send you the url tonight at practice, coach!

this is a fascinating take coach. thank you. but how does one overcome the fear of life?
we are not meant to live our everyday lives in an ultra hyper alert state. one can only take so much. how can someone unlearn what they have learned?
its so complex yet its like simplicity itself refracted through a prism.
once someone flips this switch in their head its basically an evolutionary survival mechanism within us but almost like a mutation.
its like a cancer of the nervous system. a snowball effect where everything gets swallowed up slowly until nothing remains. just fear. fear of not mastering control. control of everything to the point of infinity. of course control is only an illusion. one can tell themselves that. they know absolutely that control is a mirage of ideology. but control can manifest itself as an extremely powerful addiction.
appreciate your videos. you are a fountain of knowledge. looking forward to hearing more from you.

Asking why your mind doesn't obay is a self referential question.
There is no solution to that problem.
In programming, we call that "the halting problem".
There are many different examples of this paradox.
The halting problem generally is that you can't use a program to compute wether a program is going to halt or not.
In this case, you can't use your brain to control your brain.

I never thought of it as a technique but before I got used to turbelance, I always looked at the flight attendants. That always helped me relax. It's like a kid looking at the parent for reassurance when they hear howling winds at night or during a power outage. The way I see it, these flight attendants have seen it all; so when we hit a major turbulence and see flight attendants giggling as they fall back in their seat and buckle up at the flight captain's command, I know it's just another day at the office. The funny thing is that I jumped out of airplanes for years as part of a previous, yet I felt more anxious on an airplane going through turbulence. So, I would say it's 100% a movie, all in the mind. Thanks for the video Firas.

I got mostly over my fear of flying by doing lots of research into how planes worked. Damn I could have probably flown one myself after all the research lol! But at the end of the day for me it's about control of the situation, so I will never fully get over it. Most plane crashes happen due to a mistake made by someone along the way that wasn't the passenger. I hate stepping onto that plane knowing everything is out of my hands lol. Still won't stop me flying though fuck it!

Coach Zahabi. In the previous part of Anxiety and fear you spoke of people experience a complete loss of energy instead of the more common F F F response. I am one of these people. It happened to me in situation where there was immediate aggression of other people towards me. And my reaction was no energy just lethargic. I just took kicks and punches and I would really like to hear someone else talk about this.
I didn't know it was a thing, I thought this only happened to me. can you please talk about this situation?
