Absolutely. When I heard Yorktown for the first time, I immediately snapped back to history class years ago, thinking: wasn't that a real British drinking song?
Just came across this, and I love binging these videos and I can’t wait for the full musical. I did an actual spit take you when paused in the middle of “immigrants, we get the job done.” Don’t want to beat a dead horse about pausing, but I had a good laugh at myself
Okay. I’m absolutely hooked on your analysis of my favorite musical. I really hope you do a full watch-along when you finally watch the show... I would love to hear your thoughts. Also, once you finish, there are videos of Lin, Alex, and Tommy talking about some of their musical choices, and you might find that interesting. Thanks so much!
If you like the subtleties of the electric guitar on this song, you have to checkout the sitzprobe the orchestra did in Puerto Rico. Alex Lacamoire (musical director) has the musicians each play the dance breakdown individually (piano, bass, then drums, etc.), and then all together at the end. You get a real feel for the texture each instrument brings to the song. That video is titled 'Hamilton - Yorktown Dance Break Sitzprobe (Puerto Rico).' Great series, cheers!
The chord notes in this and Hurricane are the same but switched around. This signifies Hamilton's overwhelming feeling that he's near death or feeling the same way that he does when he was on his island in The Dominican Republic.
Diana Ankudinova is a young performer who shocks us with her pleasant voice and takes us into the abyss of events!!! Diana Ankudinova is unique and inimitable, goosebumps from her voice!=)))) Diana sings as if she lives in the song! The soul freezes or opens with Diana's voice.=))))))) I am a musician who has been with music for years, and believe me, I have not heard such a tone in all these past years. 1000000%!!!🔥🔥🔥🎤🎤🎤🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶......Amazing Amazing Amazing---Beauty in every minute!!!
This one song has so many layers of genius to it, from all of the historical details (like taking the bullets from their guns), to The World Turned Upside Down - if you see the show, you'd also see all the visual nuances layered atop the musical ones. You can study this many times and still be amazed at everything this song is packing. By the way, you skipped over an important detail that helped them win the battle of Yorktown.
I love how you explain so many musical elements! As a former band geek, I appreciate that others pick up on those things lol! Really hope you react to filmed version
I’ve been binging your Hamilton vids. I’m loving your takes on the different accents and things u hear. I hear the music differently now. Some things i hadn’t picked up on initially cuz I’m so focused on singing every lyric lol but thank you for opening my ears a lil more lol
During the show, there is actually a constant vinyl crackle during this song, similar to "The Room Where it Happened", which represents the past. In this song, it symbolizes the hurricane, when Hamilton met death. He was in this kind of situation before, during that hurricane. In a way, he never left. Hamilton is constantly asking death for another day. Just one more day. This battle throws him right back because he now doesn't want to sacrifice himself to the fight.
Excellent. I was waiting for you to do this one. Now, I can't wait for you to do Non-Stop, the Cabinet Battles, The Room Where It Happens. I just found you a few days ago, by I am really loving your Hamilton vids.
Just a suggestion I’ve noticed other reactors do, if you just bump it back a couple seconds after each pause you’ll avoid the mob of angry commenters who are mad you paused in the middle of their favourite part 😂 just a thought! Loving your videos, been binging the past couple days!
Yay, more Hamilton. LOL at the comments about you pausing right in the middle of a funny line or some momentus dialogue 😂 But you’ll hear them all when you watch the film, someday! And yes, there is definitely a programmer under the stage for stuff like the keyboard samples. Re: the cursing, there are several but for Disney Lin-Manuel had to cut out 2 of the 3 F-bombs to get the rating he wanted.
Great reaction! I don't blame you for pausing on the good lines -- you can't possibly know what's coming up or what the next few lyrics will be! Plus, we watch these for your commentary on the instrumentation, not just a straight review of the story in the song (although I do always appreciate when you comment on the lyrics). Thanks for your insight, excited for the next one!
Hahahah, I found myself nodding and mumbling yeah to something you said and ended with 'you know what I mean?' as if I was in an actual live conversation with you :D
If you "can feel the emotion" by only listening to the song. I would absolutely love to see your reaction to the actual Musical! It will blow you away! Please do it? 🥺
When you've seen the production so many times you say "bullet watch" knowing she's on stage but the person reacting has no clue. You've gotta watch it completely through!
In this video Alex Lacamoire shows the different sounds he uses on his keyboard (among other things), if you´re interested: ua-cam.com/video/jHs0NVvTxHY/v-deo.html

Is burr’s intro not part of the song? can’t remember... but yes you’re right! This song was us winning the revolutionary war. Huge moment on stage when it’s performed :) it’s also a bit easier to follow when everything is played out in front of you. Can’t wait for you to watch the show!
Are you thinking of the "How does a rag-tag volunteer army ..." intro from Guns and Ships? It flows directly from that to History Has Its Eyes On You to this, so they kind of all feel like one song but are actually three different songs on the cast recording. I agree about this moment on stage, its such a big moment that I'm always surprised it doesn't go straight into intermission to end the first act.
@@everquestingknight oh yes I was thinking about that intro! They blend so well I always forget where they are in the track list. and I totally agree! Nonstop is beautiful, I love how all the reprises come back, but it does feel like Yorktown would be a good place to stop act 1.
Hello! Thank you for the video! Please react to Into the sky songs, Take On Me🌞🌞🌞DIANA ANKUDINOVA is a talented young singer. I would like to know your opinion. I think you will be surprised. Diana has a very unusual voice and artistic presentation for her age.🌹🌹🌹 Thanks in advance!
Fun fact: "the world turned upside down" is the name of a real drinking song the British really did sing as they retreated from Yorktown.
Absolutely. When I heard Yorktown for the first time, I immediately snapped back to history class years ago, thinking: wasn't that a real British drinking song?
interesting!
I legit gasped in horror when I realized he'd skipped "that's right, HERCULES MULLIGAN!"
😮
Same 🙃
I'm still not over it, LOL.
He skipped a whole section of the song.
Me too 😩😩
Guess it's a good job Hercules Mulligan needs no introduction
You paused again in one of the best lines of the play!!!
ah my bad!
You really did 😔
I screamed at my screen! Sorry Jacob
Just found these videos, but I refuse to subscribe just coz of that. It's too much... 😒 "IMMIGRANTS WE GET THE JOB DONE!!!"
I MADE A HORCRUX WHEN THAT HAPPENED!!
"You got these church bells, almost like someone died." Haha yeah :)
You really have the ability to pause at the BEST moments. stop that! it really annoys me 😂
I don’t know it’s the “best moments” in the moment though 😂😂😂😂
@@JacobRestituto Can you rewind a second or two when you hit play again? I feel like sometimes you miss the context of the lines
@@ssmccful Also, once you explain what you’ve heard, going back a couple seconds would let us hear it too. 👍🏻
With the lyric ‘Immigrants, we get the job done’ there’s a whole song based of it!
Just came across this, and I love binging these videos and I can’t wait for the full musical.

I’ve seen video of sitzprobes (specifically, one with the Puerto Rico/SF tour) where the turntables are all programming/playback.

All of the vinyl scratches are sampled through the Ableton rig, some triggered by MIDI, some by Timecode, and some by the percussionist
amazing
The vinyl scratching is from the ableton. Scott Wasserman created it. I believe that the guitarist is the one who activates it all during the show.
