When I hear the line, “But they don’t have a plan, they just hate mine”, I always think of the performance at the White House for President Obama and how he must have been sitting there thinking, “Now why does THAT sound so familiar?”
The piano repeating melody is an embellished version of the 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 lyrics that is associated with duels. It's paralleling the formalized but still brutal nature of both kinds of battles, this with verbal weapons instead of guns. If Alexander loses this battle it's his political career that dies.
Notice how Hamilton also continues after the beat stops which furthers his tendency to "write" like he's running out of time and speaks to just how much the character thinks
Lin-Manuel Miranda needs to write rap battles (if not full musicals) for every major event in American history for the sake of our teachers. My sister learned more about the revolutionary and post-revolutionary period because her teacher made the class listen to some of these songs, which got her really into it and then she actually wanted to learn all about it. In contrast, I had to read about the founding of a national bank in an extremely boring text book and couldn't have cared less lol
It is a rap battle ,,thats the magic of Hamilton. ,, those were actually issues in early government between Jefferson and Hamilton ,, Lin made them into rap battles
That same pizzicato baseline appears in just about everything Washington is in in this show. It's in Right Hand Man, Meet Me Inside, Cabinet Battle #1, and, most noticeably, it's the beginning of One Last Time. I love it.
I've just stumbled across your channel and I already love it! As a fellow musician, I love picking apart the songs as well. Hamilton's songs are definitely fun to break down (I'm still finding new things in the songs that I didn't notice before and I've been listening to Hamilton for almost a year now).
Just a suggestion, when you do your reactions/reviews and pause, it may be good to rewind 5-10 seconds. You disrupt the flow or line connections. Just my thoughts. Nevertheless your reviews are great. I love lyrics and music the same and your ear helps to bring out some things most will miss. Keep up the great work!!!
Remember those old UA-cam rap battles?? Supa Hot Fiyaaa 😂

snap
They're both using hand mikes when they do this battle, and Jefferson drops his at the end of his first comments. Madison catches it.
hahah wow

oh interesting@
They also took the microphones they used for this song out of the same boxes used to store dueling pistols

Daveed Diggs plays Thomas Jefferson in Act II as well as Lafayette in Act I (the one with the insane rap flow in Guns and Ships). His pace is sick!

You feel like a rap battle because it is staged as one! It's actually pretty cool, watching the play is a whole other experience than just hearing it
I couldn't believe they actually brought out microphones, I was so delighted :D
@@n4l9bx right? And they got them from the same box they brought their weapons. The detail.

Have you done Alexander Hamilton or Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story?
Alexander Hamilton yes, but not Who lives, who dies, who tells your story. it's the last song and he is doing it on chronological order
I'm waiting for your reaction to the visual part of the musical hahahah
