Lin Manuel Miranda explained that with this song he wanted to showcase the speed at which Angelica's brain works. That's why the music gives a sense of a slower pace compared to the singing - because her brain is literally constantly dialed up, same as Alexanders'. If you see the live, this is emphasized by everyone moving really slowly around her. Love your reaction videos!

if you look at it that way, you can also hear that when she first talks with Alexander the music sounds faster than the singing, which is because how she says before she was so blown away by him, that she even forgot her own name. and that, my friends, is how you let music tell a story.

    • @papayapapaya4024

in addition to this, when Angelica interacts with other people it's like she slows down to their pace (when she slows her mind down to talk with Eliza then everyone else around her seems to be moving in normal speed and when she moves in slow motion to dance with Washington) but when she first talks to Alexander, she doesn't need to slow down to be able to communicate with him. His mind is moving just as fast as hers and he's able to meet her at her level.

It gives us a sense of what work the musicians did to convey the story. Although of course I would also like him to react to it AGAIN after having watched the show. So demanding.

I don't know if someone else has mentioned this but one of my favourite things in Hamilton is how Lin reuses the same melody for each character... You'll notice that that melody of the piano here in Angelica's solo is the same melody that is used in "The Schuyler sisters" when Angelica is being introduced farely in the background, almost subliminally connecting that melody to this specific character. He's truly a musical genius in my eyes.

To make it easier to understand; Angelica is the oldest Schuyler sister and as the oldest her job is to marry a rich man (because her father doesn’t have any sons, and thats pretty much all a woman could do back then). So at a party (this party takes place during A Winter’s Ball/Helpless), Angelica spots Hamilton first and really likes him. However, she knows she couldn’t marry him because he’s broke so she introduces him to her younger sister Eliza instead. Eliza and Hamilton get married, and Angelica sorta realizes that Hamilton is the one who got away. However she would never say that because she values Eliza’s feelings over her own. Essentially in this song Angelica is doing her maid of honor speech at their wedding but in her mind she’s replaying the night she let Hamilton slip through her fingers. Hope that helped :)

The song starts with them at her sister and alexanders wedding, then it rewinds and goes back in time when they first met. how she loved him, but her sister was 'helplessly in love with him', so she let her have him. then it cuts back to the wedding

This was a great reaction. “Satisfied” is in my top 5 songs of the production. I saw someone else’s reaction to this and they called it “How to Win a Tony in 5 Minutes.” She definitely deserved it. I hope by now that you have viewed the whole thing. You will have one big “Aha!” moment.

Angelica - the one singing - liked Alexander, but as she was already married and her sister - Eliza - already liked him, she decided to introduce them and endorse their marriage, without ever saying that she's in love with him. She spent her entire life loving him and not saying anything, because she valued her sister's happiness more than her own.
If you haven't, listen to "guns and ships" and "my shot". Actually, listen to the whole thing.

I just wanted to mention you are exactly right! She is rewinding back in time, and in the show they have a turntable that rewinds and they do the choreo from the previous song which is SO cool to watch. And fun fact, if you ever listen to Burn, Satisfied is just a sped up version of that song as well, noting the differences between Angelic and Eliza, especially since this melody is emphasized when Angelica speak to Eliza in this song.

I like how you explain any musical jargon you use. You don't assume that everyone knows those terms. You are right when you guessed that she goes back in her memory. He voice is just that great. You are spot on when you talk about how hard it is to tell a story. It took Lin 20,500 to tell Hamilton's story. If this were a convention musical it would end up being more like a 12 hour musical.

The cast says she’s one of the best freestylers and they would just be off in the wings waiting for their turn to come on stage, freestyling. Super rad. And also ... she raps and belts for what, 5-6 minutes solid ... IN A CORSET!!! And she never sounds breathless. Insane.

If you compare this to Helpless, there are elements they refer back to on this song because they’re rewinding to that moment. Everything you hear, they do live on stage - the music editing, echoes, mixing, and autotunes. This musical is a masterpiece.

Jacob, There is a reason The Queen Renee won the Tony. Now Satified, and Helpess are the came choreography just backwards. Which is why you hear them say rewind. She loves Hamilton and he he loves her, but she sacrificed him for her sister’s happiness. ❤️❤️❤️ Renee is a rapper as well, that why her flow is amazing. Satisfied and George Washington is going home are my favorites. I am finally seeing Hamilton on Broadway in January. To say I’m excited is an understatement, I will finally be Satisfied.
