Congratulations on passing the ABYC marine electrical certification course! You've conducted yourself brilliantly and are definitely wired for success!
Thank you! 😊
I see what you did there
Groan!
Ava's parents should post your marine electrical cert on their refrigerator with a magnet. Tradition demands it!
That would be epic :D
Watching Mads nerding out of control for 2/3 of the video until Eva instantly wrangled him back to earth. 😂
Congratulations Mads, there was never any doubt about your passing; welcome home Ava!!
Huge congratulations on passing! You are a ROCKSTAR!
Congrats on the certification and Ava made me chuckle.
Congratulations On your Achievement! I attempted the ABYC back in 2021 and dropped out it was to overwhelming….well done, LadyD 🤙🏾🇨🇦🇹🇹
Congratulations Mads, I don't think anyone doubted that you would pass with flying colours!!
I didn’t think it could get any more exciting than “oh glorious sanding”, but now I get to watch someone studying…😊
Welcome back Ava! Congratulation Mads on your successful certification. I sold a boat that I spent almost 10 years upgrading and keeping very detailed records. When I sold the boat, I must have asked the buyer when an how I could get all my records to him. He obviously wasn't at all interested. Not everyone is like US!!
Welcome back, Ava. Please show us how you get to the big stores from your anchorage in Puerto Rico as one of your travel guides. That would be helpful to other cruisers. I'd love to visit Walmart :)
Congratulations on getting your certification and for adding another thing to my to-do list🤣. The course sounds like a lot of fun and it will be on this coming winter’s schedule.
On a side note, thank you for turning us onto your favorite varnish combo. We tested four different manufacturers to pick a finish for our new cherry interior but would not have included Interlux without your recommendation. It is the one we prefer so a huge thank you for that!
Very well done, I’m in awe of your professionalism and ability.. glad Ava is back on board to brighten up the days and keep you in line😅
The past few weeks I've been watching the entire refit of Athena.. Currently you've just installed the nav desk and have the head mocked up in cardboard. Feels a bit like time travel watching a new upload after a week straight of watching years old vids hahaha. I'm dreading the day I run out of the old vids and have to wait a WHOLE WEEK between new uploads! 😰😂
Welcome to our world. I started watching years ago. :)
Many of us have been in your shoes. Find a good counselor now!
Congratulations!
As an electrician, i completely understand the excitement 🎉
Thank you :) Between you and me I wanted to be an electrician when I was younger but had a bad experience with the local electrician in grade 9 when I was there for two weeks as a part of a "figure out what you want to be when you grow up"-program at school. They were so horrible to each other and to me. If the work environment had been better there then I'd properly have been an electrician today.
@@SailLifelol exactly the same, you probably dodged a bullet though, you could have easily ended up in one of the multiple bad companies that probably outnumbers the healthy ones.
The hazing and work environment in the USA within the electrical trade in the late 80's and early 90's could be quite brutal for new apprentices and pre-apprentices.
From everything I heard growing up as a third-generation electrician things were even worse before that. One needed to put their time in as the lowest rung on the totem pole and poo rins downhill so to speak with traditional behaviors and folks thinking that the way things were when they were in that position, and now it is their tum to get theirs back on the new guys. It could be even worse if they knew your family and maybe had a few personal scores to settle on the next generation.
Not that it was all bad but one needed to grow a VERY tough skin and learn to really do what everyone expected of a grunt on the very bottom and not get a reputation as a baby or a complainer.
After 5-6 years of that one graduated as a journeyman and got a little more respect for finishing off the program. The pay was very good , especially if one got into management and ran jobs as a foreman and got extra pay and profit-sharing incentives for making the shop owners lots and lots of money. If you were good at getting results you could literally name your own terms and maybe retire at age 50 and go live on a sailboat. :D
Congratulations and welcome back Ava. I also have some tidying up to do with my wiring after installing lithium. It’s just not OCD enough.
Prrrrroooobably going to be the only one to say this but I would love to see a series of videos on DC wiring. While virtually everyone else in the universe hates 12v wiring, I actually really enjoy it. I'm always happy when I have a new doodad that needs to be wired in or some previous project "needs" to be rewired in an even more robust way. Seeing your videos I've been thinking I might do the course.
I was at a marina in Brunswick Georgia and a guy like you gave classes with question and answer session every Saturday to anyone at the marina, I learned a lot in 3 hours it took......maybe you can do something like that ........
Congratulations, Mads!
Congrats on your successful attainment of your ABYC electrical qualification Mads
love you guys . Keep the fight going ,I always thought you were the bad guys not anymore. Team Hales.
Hey Mads, that is awesome. Never slow down in your self improvement and learning. Just remember the standards are a minimum, not a maximum. I would encourage you to build anything to the very best you can figure out how to build. Know your/you're love
congrats on nailing the test and havinng Ava back onboard!
Congratulations!! 🇨🇦 That’s awesome. I didn’t take the standards course, but I enjoyed the “Boathowto” courses with Nigel Calder & Jan Athenstadt. Highly recommended as well if you want to learn how to work with electrical.
Agree 100% - and I suspect that you like now me after watching this video are thinking about doing the ABYC certification. Mads made it sound like a very worth while thing to do.
Doctor N Calder is one of those people who helps define and set those standards.. That said he's also the guy who developed a lot of the actual electrical systems on modern boats. Especially the high output low rpm generator alternator s. 😎
Congratulations on Your Massive Exam result ..... So good to see the 'Full Compliment' back onboard ..... :-) :-) :-) Keep well and Stay safe, Thanks for All your Great Vidclips .... Cheers from ChCh, NZ
Hi , great work Mads and the team is reunited ,😉👍💅
Congrats on passing the test. Take care and have a wonderful week ahead
Glad you two are together again!
This is brilliant stuff for people who want to learn and potentially follow you. Please, please do a video(s) about your boat buying options. It would be great to have your perspective on {{ random_boat }} - why you like it, hate it etc. There's a UA-cam channel where a guy goes around and appraises boats - the one with the stuffed dog. It would be great to see you give your opinions on a range of boats.
Hi Congratulations on passing your ABYC electrical certification and welcome home. Eva.
When you get to New England you need to spend some time in New Bedford/fairhaven ma harbor. Lots of history and things to see and do. I can help with transportation and logistics. Cheers! Tom.
Congrats! Great video, always something to learn from sail life👍
Welcome home Ava and congrats mads peace and love
Congrats on passing your first exam!! I def see some future projects ahead of you . Btw it was hilarious to see Ava dancing and making her debut comeback to the boat ;) 😂
I would be super surprised if Mads had ever failed an exam in his life!
Congratulations!! That looks like an interesting course, thanks for sharing.
Congrats Mads🎉🎉
Thank you so much :D
Maybe only 4 ring terminals because of the length of the screw that comes with it........they know if you add more than 4 you won't go get a longer screw because it's a hassle and it will be held on with 2 threads if it's 5
San Juan was super nice . Don’t miss it
Welcome back, Ava!
Oh, and congrats on the test score.
Congratulations 🎉 Never in doubt!!
Great job Mads! We met at Annapolis with Andy Keenan - and I bought my third refit after we spoke (Sabre 38 MK II) "I think I've gone Mads" - could that be a T-shirt idea? I would buy one
I LOVE that t-shirt idea!!! I already have one of his "Oh Glorious Sanding" shirts, but that would be a fun addition, especially when working on my boat!
Well done on passing the ABYC Madds 91% was amazing 😍
14:55 so glad to hear the duet again
edit: congratulations!
Your tagged study guide is awesome!
Onboard Lifestyle's videos are currently in Costa Rico and they are surprised at how expensive food is there. You might want to research prices where you are, Costa Rico, and the Bahamas and shop accordingly. Congrats on passing the course Mads! :)
You too are a great couple I look forward to your videos all the best for the future.
another Sunday Vid in the books. Enjoyed it!
The concept of earthing a boat is interesting.
The single biggest question I have in boat electrical is about grounding when using an isolation transformer, an inverter like Victron Multiplust II and a boat side main panel RCD breaker. Where do you combine the ground and neutral on the boat side? According to ABYC 11.7.2.6, this should be done on the isolation transformer but I would have thought it should be done at the boat side mains where the RCD is installed. Is it just important that it only be done in one spot and ABYC just chose the isolation transformer, when present? This makes more of an issue if you add a second 30A circuit to the boat with separate second isolation transformer and inverter (something one considers when going pure electric).
Missed your wit and charm Ava, glad to see you back! ABYC - is this available as a download-would be very useful and easier to store and reference? Congrats on passing though Mads.
Congratulations on the certification!!!!
Congrates on passing you certification test, we should we now call you Oh Glorious Advisor? 😲
Nice to have Ava back!
Mads- y'all can come drop anchor in Oriental NC and I bet the boss would let you work- on your boat or a side hustle- out of our shop!
Congrats!
Congratulations
Awesome tabbed book, congratulations!
yes please more videos on the specifics of wiring. Many nerd fans lurking.
Mads , bra jobbat att studera alene i värmen -:)
You may need to raise the waterline a little with that book on your boat!
Congrats on being Certified. 😉👍
Great news now let's see a picture of the Certificate. Posted on the refrigerator.
You two make my day!!!
Stay safe and we'll see you next week.
Did you become an ABYC member before taking the study courses or it is open to non-members as well?
Well done Mads!
Congratulations!!
Congratulations again (as I congratulated you when you post it on Instagram).
But now we got "wired up" on the new potential project boat!!!
Maybe you can post at least some "short" of that??? 😉🤔
I am one of those people who sit down for a exam forget my name. Brain goes mush. But give me the job to do, do it spot on. But congrats SOOO do tell the boat of more sanding.
I would like to so this. But i have no electrical experience or knowledge. Does the ABYC course require a base level of knowledge?
Sounds like someone bought a new project! Looking forward to that and I think you are crazy for waning to do another refit already! Lol
Congratulations on your test😊
Method to your Madsness. Congrats.
Mads, now that you passed the course could you possibly be an inspector or consultant?
I'm going to guess that Mads will demonstrate what he has learned while doing the next refit. He was like a "hands-on" instructor while refitting both Obelix and Athena.
A tabbing that any Monk follower would be proud of!
Hiya. You mentioned that the ABYC had made a comment or section about Lithium Batteries ? Would you mind repeating what they have Said Please ? This could be extremely important, as from what I’m hearing, All insurance companies now have a get out clause regarding fires on boats, to the effect that if Lithium Batteries are on the boat, insurance cover is nullified ? I’m not in a position to verify this presently, as I’m still recovering from Respiratory Failure ehich led to Pneumonia and Heart Failure Bletchley.but right now, for my next Sailboat, I’m sticking with an AGM Batteries setup, until the likely insurance situation gets resolved? After which, any additional lithium batteries can reach approved standards. Best Wishes. Bob in Wales.🤔👍🌟🌟👍🏴🇬🇧⛵️
Mads, my goals with ABYC certification are similar to yours. What ABYC membership level did you choose - Education (Student)?
Would you please inform us how much the ABYC course cost? Thanks
Congratulations we now know a reliable engineer.
Nice, Eva is back I hope you dusted before she landed. 🤣🤣 great update 2x👍
Mads… Costco has thick hickory smoked bacon 🥓 in two 1.5 pound packages in the US for about $12 USD.
Mads you need to get a glorious old Halberg Rassy to refit.
Good job getting certified 👍
Hopefully, if and when you purchase that fixer-uper boat, it will not take 7 years this time. I have been watching since before you bought Athena. I am curious to know, is your dog who stayed with your parents still alive?
She's there, now you need to pre record the closing so you have it for when she isn't there.
I have to take a D.O.T. CFR 49 test every 4 years. The thing about such open book tests is they teach you how to use the book to do something that perhaps wasn't covered in the classes, but as you we taught how to use the book, can now look up what you need to know.
Shockingly (not), it is amazing how so many people get stupid simple, stupid wrong. Even large companies get things expensively wrong. It can be even more fun, like when you ask for clarification from the DOT, if they get the answer wrong, (like say the Sec Of Transportation themselves tells you it is okay, and it is later determined that it is not) you are still liable, and they will fine you for doing what they told you you could do.
Doubt ABYC is that bad.
Many congrats!
Eva u are married to fantastic nerd, we need this people to get progress in our world....
congratulations
Another great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Sheldon and Amy of the cruisers world.❤IYNYN
Love it! They tell you the questions in advance of an open book exam... welcome to american "education"!
Is there anyone here who thought Mads study tabs were very Mads. Wouldn’t expect anything less!!
Good work Mads
Puerto Rico has the world’s smallest collection of miniatures!
💯
How long is the certification good for?
Well done sir 👏
what is the current off-set vs. real-time? I feel like it is at least 4-5 weeks right now.
I think it's 3 weeks :)
Now you can effectively corral those evil pixies and make them do your bidding.... muahahaha
Exactly! But at the same time we don't want to anger them 😬
Well done Mads with your pass mark. I am sure you must be a Virgo with the way you labeled that book? Cheers Ian
Great video
