    If you want some good dark shadow colors, try mixing the phthalo blue or ultramarine (I know, but cobalt blue doesn't have the tint strength to achieve those deep dark shadow tones) with the burnt sienna, burnt umber, or english red ;)
    For me my _favorites_ are attributed to comfort, so instead of looking at something as your favourite thing, ask yourself what is your comfort tv show(s) or comfort food(s) that you always rely on, does that make sense?

    There is a Canadian paint manufacturer called Rockwell that has a series called emerging minerals that you would likely love. The granulation is off the charts. And they have a very Pete friendly colour pallet. Bit pricy but you will get that sweet USD-CAD exchange.

    Loved listening to your conversation about music. Your tastes are like mine. I'm a few years older than you so I missed the grunge period but I got into the late 70s & 80s rock in my teens. I also love blues and blues-rock, but lately (last 5 years or so) I've really got into jazz, especially swing-era (1935-1945). Swing jazz is happy music; its guaranteed to lift my mood. 😁

    Now I'm going to start conversations with "spicy or non spicy?" 😂 I love your story of selling muffins as a kid, what a fun way to lean marketing! When I was around 9, my best friend lived around the corner, and a neighbor's dog had puppies. My mom and my friend's grandma said we can each have one if we earned the money for their food ourselves so we Got To Work. We had ALL the business proposals but we mainly just stuck to yardwork for our neighbors. We did everything from mowing to raking to (badly) trimming hedges, got to know all our neighbors, and my puppy's name was Cinnamon ❤☺

SO SO NICE..I don’t paint on hot pressed paper, rarely smooth paper unless I’m in my sketch book, but I really like the looks of it. This is one of my “favorites”. LOL. I agree on Facebook and Twitter, etc. don’t like that stuff either. I tired. 😵‍💫

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  5 місяців тому

      Glad I could make you smile. I think reminiscing is one of my favorite things to do. Even with all the bad crap you live through, it still shows me how blessed I truly am. There is a caveat with this paper. It is very hard to get a smooth wash on it because first, it's smooth and second, it's pulp paper., Which is why I use it. You see a lot of splotchy and uneven areas but that just shows me where to put my line work so it works great for me. For the smoother look of the house area, you can do a single swipe to get your base color and then add a little more color on top once it's dry. You have to be very careful with wet-into-wet because if you do too much it will tear up the paper. I enjoy it but it takes some getting used to like everything else. 🙂

    I got the 21 colour mono-pigmented set. I later picked up an empty 48 half pan tin and added the missing mono-pigmented Rosa colours (727 Quinacridone Lilac, 752 Cerulean Blue, 718 Light Blue, 738 Blue Indanthrene, 751 Aureoline, 758 Caput Mortuum, and 753 Royal Brown) and I added 717 Indigo as a dark (influenced by UA-camr Jackie Hernandez).
    I also swapped out 708 Carmine for 726 Madder Rose, and 711 Green for a spare half pan of W&N Hooker's Green as the PR170:1 and PG8 pigments used in the original mono-pigmented choices have questionable lightfastness - I'm not sure whether or not I'll persist with those changes, though.
    I feel these changes make for a more practical set, at the expense of losing the pure "mono-pigmented" characteristic (note that this wasn't really true for my set as supplied anyway: 741 Cobalt Turquoise was a mix of PB28 and PB36 in mine).
    I finally filled up the remaining middle slots with some spare W&N half-pans: Lemon Yellow, Winsor Lemon, Cadmium Yellow, Quinacridone Red, Permanent Rose, Quinacridone Magenta, Cerulean Blue (Red Shade), Yellow Ochre, Quinacridone Gold, and Payne's Gray.
    I think the Unique Selling Point of the Rosa Gallery paints is that they're very good quality at a near-student grade price point.

      Thank you for sharing. I agree that they are less expensive and yet very professional grade paint. That is a great place to sit in the market. I wish the open stock was available in the US. I'd switch out quite a few of these and make them more to my taste.

    Is hard to find good decaf because no one really makes it properly.
    Apparently, a proper decaf is actually really, really good - sadly never had one.
    Not sure if you know of James Hoffmann, but he has a video on this specific topic - Decaf Explained (here on UA-cam).
    Bottom line is that decaf coffee beans stales much faster than regular coffee beans. So fresh decaf beans stored in a sealed container without oxygen is very important.

      I wish I could help there. I see what you're saying. I've never seen paint do this before. The only solution I see is to mix on a porcelain tray and dip into the pan and then on there so you can keep going back to it rather than constantly dipping into the pan. I'm not sure how much that will help but it's worth a try. It's a strange property.

    This is maybe a stupid question but I haven’t seen any videos covering how to use the small wells on the inner flap section of these kinds of pallets. On some of my pallets that lid stays up at a near 90 degree angle, and on some they drop down and touch the table. What’s correct? It seems like they are too small/shallow to really use, especially when they droop down to the table. Most content creators seem to remove that panel completely because of size or weight. So what’s the purpose? Why are they so ubiquitous and yet so often removed?

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  5 місяців тому +1

      From how I've used them. They should slightly tip down which should hold a flat mixing surface for paint that is more concentrated while the other side of the lid is used for more wet mixing. However, some I remove anyway to reduce the size. It doesn't really matter. I just need to point something out to complain about.
