I find that part of the fun of these handheld emulators is putting together your own rom collection and finding those 'hidden gems' on each system yourself and having a nicely curated list of games you actually enjoying playing on the go, so having a huge library dump like pre-loaded doesn't appeal to me. I finally just got my MM+ two days ago and it’s awesome. I especially love it for GBA, the cramped vertical format takes me back to playing on og hardware back in the day. I have to say though, I love me some colorful rainbow buttons on my retro handhelds :)
@@LazyReacts100 % agreed. I just got mine including shipping for EUR 46,-. Without microSD but it's recommended to swap that for a better one anyways. A little bit of googling and I found the contents of the original microSD (without games but all the BIOS files - which I had anyways as I own a Miyoo Mini). Installing Onion OS is very easy and now I'm ready to go for EUR 53,- including a 64 GB microSD.
@Zerzayar nice ! You're not one of the FOMO buyers that insta buy on fear of forgetting it or it being sold out. There's millions of these things literally everywhere. And mostly ali express has all these devices you see on tiktok for stupid cheap. Except a few that have their own forms of selling
@@LazyReacts It's the premium of onion os pre set-up that you're paying for. If you don't have the experience and you brick the MM+ you're gonna have to pay $120 anyways.
Just wanted to let you know I got a miyoo mini plus cause of a single video of yours I saw, and I loved the vid Looking forward to playing with retro handhelds
Okay, so after many hours of rewatching some of your videos on this and RG35XX+/H; with very much deliberation, you have both sold me on the MM+ as well as earned my sub! I was finally upgrading from my old RG350 original and I was stuck between 35XX(+/H) and the R36S and even the RP2S. It has been a rabbit hole. I'm a little worried for my piano hands but I think this is going to be a massive upgrade from my old RG350 in so many ways.
Placed my order last night for the white one after watching this video. I'm a bit new to emulation, so your channel has been great to make the learning curve a little less difficult. Keep up the great work, Dweeb!
Checking back in, as my Miyoo Mini Plus arrived yesterday and... I could not be happier! Tons and tons of games, onion OS is amazing, absolutely worth the price IMO. 10/10!
I just ordered one today because doing it myself was stressing me out when I would look it up on here. I’m excited lol. I also bought the white one with a grip.
I’ve really been enjoying your vids lately! Thanks for all the helpful info on the retro handheld market. Still struggling to decide if I want this, anbernic or a powkiddy as my main Gameboy device, but I’m happy there are so many options around for an affordable price
@@lunsj all 3! I hear the D-pad and battery life are kinda awkward for the RGB30 but I saw Retro Game Corps putting electrical tape on that part of the motherboard to get a good fix. I’m leaning a bit more towards the Miyoo Mini Plus for that and now the simplicity of having a pre loaded card
@@EnbyFish My d-pad isn't terrible but it definitely is far from perfect. Hadoukens are not working very well for example. Also battery is wonky. I'll get to working on that soon. It says a lot about the device that I'm willing to put up with those things. That screen is just nuts.
@@EnbyFish Definitely had some hiccups. I had an update cause a sound issue and resetting to defaults seemed to fix it. But with all my tinkering I've had to install a new image of JELOS. I doubt you'll need to do that though. This thing is pretty great out of the box. I just can't help myself and I have to break it then fix it again.
Took the Dweeb's advice and ordered one just like he said. I installed Miyoo on another emulator (with Dweebs help) and it was a hassle. So this was awesome. I was able to jump right in and have fun with it.
I got all 4 and swapped the buttons around. I put the black dpad, black and purple buttons, grey select/start on my white miyoo just like a real gameboy color. The grey is more like a TAN color though.
Thanks for the well thought out video. I just got into this hobby and I recently bought a Retroid Pocket 3+ and it's great. It plays everything that I'm interested in but I wish I had something more pocketable especially in the summer months. I was torn between the Miyoo Mini + or the 35xx + and I decided on the Miyoo thanks to this video. I just ordered one from your recommended site, can't wait to try it out.
I just got my Miyoo mini 128GB with Onion OS in the mail just an hour ago, I'm letting it charge all the way before I spend a full battery life to toy around with it, I'm super hyped to play the games that I had on Gameboy color and Gameboy advanced and other games back in the early 2000's
A LITNXT Brother! 👍😁 Nice! Good shop and I love my Miyoo Mini +. But there is also a desktop tool for Windows that flash your MicroSD with Onion with only 1 click! Anyway, awesome video mate! 🤜🤛
In the past I grew up playing heavy duty, retro console like the game boy and the game gear but when I play these new handheld they feel uncomfortable because my hands are bigger than average grips are game changer
For weeks, I’ve been contemplating with getting either the miyo mini plus or the anbernic rg35xx. Then you convinced me to get the miyo mini plus but just 2 days ago, I saw that apparently the anbernic rg35xx plus came out so that convinced me to get that BUT this video is now making me rethink which one to get now. The Miyo Mini plus or the anbernic rg35xx plus. It’s SO hard to choose.
I can't help you there. I haven't got the RG35xx+ yet. For what it's worth I prefer the Miyoo Mini to the RG35xx because I prefer Onion OS to Garlic OS, and also the MM+ is smaller and more pocket friendly because the back is flat.
It's weird but I feel like the DIY aspect of retro handhelds makes them more ethical. I just want to buy a wee little computer that's suited to emulation, and choose to do the piracy myself with community support. Paying for convenience is one thing, but when a romset becomes a proprietary product that's only available through purchase, does that cross a line?
I think there's an ethical approach to the piracy question. Here's my thoughts on the matter: ua-cam.com/video/yQaTJ_Vjws8/v-deo.html When you're buying a pre-loaded device like this one, it's not as much about the roms themselves but more about the time taken to set everything up and organize it. For example all of the ports on this thing would take a very long time to track down and get working correctly. Or the Ninja Turtles collection. It's all within our own capacity to do but lots of people don't have the skills or time to actually do this stuff. So it's a matter of do they not get to enjoy Half-life Doom because they tried and couldn't figure it out, or do they get to enjoy it because they bought a pre-loaded device. Hard to say where to draw the line but I'm happy that products like this exist for those non-techy people who just want to play these forgotten classics.
Been waiting to get some greenbacks to get my girl one of these so she can pass the time when I'm flying drones lol Was about to check out and forgot to use your link so had to come back and get it lol Loved the video. Keep it up!!!
I have a Miyoo Mini and a MM+ but I've struggled with putting together a good card, it's just kind of a mess. I think I'll buy their card and see if that improves the experience
@@nickentrosI wish I was able to get to you sooner. After watching this video, it’s looking like the Done Set rom collection, except for the DS portion of it. Unless there is a new update to the Done Set collection, which now includes DS…? But yeah, if you want to save money, download and install the Done Set collection. There’s also “Tiny Best Set: GO!” collection, which is great also, I just prefer “Done Set” I would not install both, as there is some overlap on games. Done Set also has overlays enabled by default, so you can have like a GB/GBC/GBA look for those games. I prefer some alternative overlays, but the ones included is a great start for anyone. But yeah, it’s looking exactly like Done Set, save for the DS roms. But if the creator of Done Set has updated their collection, then DS might actually be there now. If it’s not too late, I’d just cancel the order and try that first. Edit: Both rom collections I mentioned are COMPLETELY free! And they shouldn’t be sold as a sort of “kit”.
@@nickentros nice so you bought the (only card) right ? I ask bc I’ve already have a miyoo mini but been thinking about getting just the card form litnxt
Just ordered my own MM+ in the reteo gray color. Super exited to play all the games from my childhood. Quick question, what do you use to charge all your emulation gaming devices safely without damaging them?
Getting one in a couple days, fully decked out, original grey. Got it so I can cheat on most emulators, mainly GBA, SNES, and PS1. Too old to play fair, and I don’t have the time or patience. Good video, brother.✝️👍🏻
If I have this one with the onion card can I put it in my computer and save the whole card then just drag and drop everything onto another card then just put it in another miyoo mini plus that doesn’t have onion? Will it install everything automatically or do I have to install onion then put the games and everything on it?
Your channel is so awesome !I'm still obsessed with my miyoo mini plus. I'm curious if you've tried out the R33S ? Part of me is hurt they ripped off the love of my life,...but...
I haven't tried a 33s, but I have a 36s waiting in the wings to review. It seems solid for the price, but not nearly as nice as the real deal. And also the 33s doesn't have Onion OS, which is the BEST feature of the MM+. I'd recommend paying extra for a MM+, personally.
I really enjoy setting up my own devices, but this is really neat and tempting! 😂 Thought about picking up one of these in the near future because I love the Gameboy aesthetic. Plus, I feel like this would be an awesome way for me to chew through my backlog of Gameboy/GBA games as well! I felt like I'd just own my Steam Deck but nah lol
Excellent video as always with you!! I think to try some retro handheld game systems but with me crappy eyes, I don't know if I may play on them--I already have issues with my N3DSXL... Did you caught a cold?? It seems that your voice is not as usual since 3 or 4 vids...
There are bigger handhelds out there. The 405v is only 1/2 inch bigger than the MM+ but it feels way bigger when it's in your hands. And then of course there's the Steam Deck which runs retro games like a champ!
Im not to techy, but i have a rg353p and its fun out of the box. I have a question though, if i just bought the 128gb sd card with onion installed with the link you provided, would that would on my rg353p?
I just got into the retro handheld train recently by buying my first device. It's the Anbernic RG405V, and it was already shipped and is close to getting home. I can't wait to play my childhood games as I always dreamt!
I think curating your own game library and then tinkering with these devices to improve the feel or look of it whether its buttons or software is fun, especially since etsy has stuff others have made for them like cases and face buttons, shoulder buttons ect...
I wish I had known about these guys when I ordered my MM+ Now anyone can have a fully setup handheld. I was really pleased to see the Sandisk card instead of the black basic one that comes with the unit. I love Miyoo, but they are just keeping the price down for putting in a cheap cord, SD card reader, and basic case.
This card looks fantastic! I’m glad you recommended it to me and I have one on the way. I have a question about pico-8. I have purchased the pico-8 software and absolutely LOVE IT… how can I get Pico-8 running optimally on this device?
just ordered my grip handles for Miyoo Mini Plus on ali express for 2.99 (with tax) not bad considering they were $23 on Amazon. I dont mind the 10 day wait for shipping.
When I first time heard about game switcher on onion I was like "wow isn't that the most convenient thing in the world". Reality though: play one game for 2 mins then switch to another for another 2 mins and so on until I had like 50 games in queue lol I wish more custom os had this. Daijisho doesn't even have recents 😢
is there a place where we could download the curated ROMS as seen on this video? I really liked the arrangement of the roms and how the "standard" games are separate from the "best of" games. I also love the pre scraping which saves a lot of time. Google drive, or mega link, please?
@@TechDweeb Prior to this video, I did not know that there were rom sets/ rom packs available online. For everyone, I would recommend the "Tiny Best Set Go" collection (just google it) its a rom collection specifically made for the Miyoo Mini and the RG35XX. You have the option to download the boxart as well. The handpicked roms are pretty high quality, and the box art are specifically sized/curated for the Miyoo Mini's screen. It's an outstanding collection. Only thing missing are best of romhacks collection, which I am still yet to find.
There’s 2, that I know of. One is “Tiny Set: GO!”, the other is “Done Set”. Both are good. They have 3 “tiers” of sets, depending on your storage options. They both include a “Base set”, for 32GB storage devices. This set is a MUST install. It has everything needed. The next 2 are add-ons. The first “add-on” is for 64GB and the last and final add-on is for 128GB. For the 64GB version to work, you need the Base set (32GB version). And for the 128GB to work, you need the Base set (32GB) and the 64GB add-on installed. This applies for both ROM collections. I do not recommend to mix and match. Only go with either Tiny Set or Done Set. They both have some overlap for their collections. Also, they both supply the box art for all the games included, along with 1 or 2 alternative box art packs. Done Set already has some overlays applied for each console/emulator. So you can have a GBC-esque overlay for GB/GBC games, if you’d like. Tiny Set does NOT have pre-installed overlays, but you can also find overlay packs online to install yourself. Very easy to do. Done Set has cheats enabled by default. Tiny Set, you have to enable that via PC and a note text editor. Done Set also has a ton of cheats scrapped from website so you don’t have to go looking for them and you won’t have to create .cht files manually. All the included cheats may not be useful though. Some are for different regions/languages of games, some are just incomplete or the codes are just partial. There is a website, GameHacking(dot)org, which you can download the .cht files from, which is where Done Set got theirs from. But it was just a massive scrapping of all the cheats and not really tested for each game, which I can’t complain as that would be tough and tedious to do. That’s pretty much the differences in them. Don’t let the overlays and cheats persuade you, these are very easy to do, but I can also see the enticement of it. I found out about Tiny Set from YT comments and then found out about Done Set from Reddit. I’ve had both installed and they are both good. Hope this helps.
Bro, your voice is fun to listen to. I was wondering if that is your real authentic voice or if you accentuate it for character effect. Regardless, This was the first time watching your videos. I subscribed. Take care bro! See you round
Eurgh, I've ordered an RG35XXH and it's in transit now... should I send it back and get a Miyoo Mini Plus? I went with the H because of the thumbsticks, mainly... but everyone keeps saying to go Miyoo over Anbernic and now I'm not sure!
Interlacing is where the game renders half an image at once, every other line. Old TVs used interlaced video because they would refresh at the same rate and it would appear smooth. Deinterlacing removes the interlacing, so games like Bloody Roar 2 run at 100% speed when they are running with interlacing, but deinterlacing removes the half-image rendering and renders entire frames at once, so it takes a big hit to performance. However deinterlacing is good, because if you don't do that you can sorta see the every-other-line rendering (a sort of ghost effect), however since it's more demanding turning off the deinterlacing (or turning ON the interlacing, depending on the emulator) will take away that overhead.
I've only recently got into handhelds and I can see why Onion held so highly. I've only used Batocera, which is very pretty, but doesn't have the ease of Onion.
I just want to know if it has Yoshi's Island. Been wanting to pull the trigger on my first retro handheld but it needs to have Yoshi's Island. I've just heard the Nintendo is not a fan of that.
I know yours was and that’s why I question it 😂 wondering if just for promotional purposes but still fantastic value regardless, I’d just transfer the data over so no biggie! Thanks for swift reply though
Recently got a MM+ and it's so much better than my RG35XX. Ended up giving my 35XX to my sister. Etsy has a lot of great accessories for the MM+. I got myself a screw in lanyard, Sony decal for the front, PlayStation buttons, a better speaker and a nice clamshell case with padding on the inside.
@@TechDweeb Yes, it did! The audio is much crisper, even at high volumes. The audio crackling is pretty much gone. And the guy who sells them on Etsy is such a chill dude. Had some funny conversations with him before :D
Am I understanding it correctly: At least one version of the MM+ comes with many ROMs already pre-installed? Which version is it? The Onion OS + 128 GB SD? (It just sounds too good to be true. 😅)
I think any MM+ with an included SD card will come with games. But they'll be on the stock OS, and the stock games list is kinda crappy. This Onion build is WAYYYY better.
Hello I purchased this based on your suggestion. I played with it less than an hour then all of the audio was gone. Except for the"expert" Section so I know it's not hardware related. Litnxt told me to to reconfig audio and save which I did and still no audio. He said I must have deleted audio file except I only played games now the say I need to buy a new card. Help!
Hmm very strange. Never heard of that happening. My first suggestion would be to UPDATE onion OS using the OTA update option in the settings (you may need to enable it through the settings). Connect to wifi and update the device, that should reinstall the emulators and hopefully fix the issue. If that fails I'm not sure what else to suggest. I suppose you could just install Onion OS on a fresh card and copy over the games in a worst case scenario.
I bought a Miyoo mini grip as my wife told me to get a grip the other day. How wise she was.
your videos are "Christmas gift" enough for me

I finally just got my MM+ two days ago and it’s awesome. I especially love it for GBA, the cramped vertical format takes me back to playing on og hardware back in the day. I have to say though, I love me some colorful rainbow buttons on my retro handhelds :)
hope you didnt pay 120 usd for it like this guy wants you to when they cost 50 to 60 usd

Just got mine too mortal Kombat is so good on it!
Just wanted to let you know I got a miyoo mini plus cause of a single video of yours I saw, and I loved the vid
Looking forward to playing with retro handhelds
Okay, so after many hours of rewatching some of your videos on this and RG35XX+/H; with very much deliberation, you have both sold me on the MM+ as well as earned my sub!
I was finally upgrading from my old RG350 original and I was stuck between 35XX(+/H) and the R36S and even the RP2S.
It has been a rabbit hole.
I'm a little worried for my piano hands but I think this is going to be a massive upgrade from my old RG350 in so many ways.
1 month later and I gotta say, I love the MM+ and though it is sliggghtly small, it's a really nice semblance to the gb form factor.
Love the setup on your handheld MiniMan

@EnbyFish Which Gameboy? Original, color or GBA? I ask because if original and/or Color then Powkiddy RGB30 is the correct answer :)
@@lunsj how is setting up the thing? The process smooth for you?
@@EnbyFish Definitely had some hiccups. I had an update cause a sound issue and resetting to defaults seemed to fix it. But with all my tinkering I've had to install a new image of JELOS. My family and I love watching your videos!
that transparent black does look nice with the new buttons
This thing is awesome. I have this and Analogue Pocket but this is my travel companion. My pocket stays at home.
Took the Dweeb's advice and ordered one just like he said. I installed Miyoo on another emulator (with Dweebs help) and it was a hassle. So this was awesome. I was able to jump right in and have fun with it.
Just got a miyoo mini plus, and it's so fun to not just play but customize. Im working on my own skin for it.
Nice!
I got all 4 and swapped the buttons around. I put the black dpad, black and purple buttons, grey select/start on my white miyoo just like a real gameboy color. The grey is more like a TAN color though.
Man that is a great setup I did all that by myself I like the way they setup the rooms. I went all.black also and put a sticker over the battery
Damn the Miyoo mini is slick, its not exactly what I'm looking for in a handheld but just its simple, easy to digest design makes me want it.
Its great, its like a gateway hand held. I got familiar with os, files and stuff. Now i'm lookin to upgrade to a horizontal hand held.

Grips for handhelds are a game changers bro
Yes, I dont get why people choose the rg35xx because it "fits" their hands better. You can just buy a grip. Onion os is so much better.
In the past I grew up playing heavy duty, retro console like the game boy and the game gear but when I play these new handheld they feel uncomfortable because my hands are bigger than average grips are game changer
You're my favorite little dork 😂 hope you are doing well nerdling.
Will do dweeb!
For what it's worth I prefer the Miyoo Mini to the RG35xx because I prefer Onion OS to Garlic OS, and also the MM+ is smaller and more pocket friendly because the back is flat.
thats some dream package!
woow. This surprised me. Great work with OS for those guys. Thanks TechDweeb. You have a new subscriber. :)
Thanks buddy! Welcome!
Here's my thoughts on the matter: ua-cam.com/video/yQaTJ_Vjws8/v-deo.html
When you're buying a pre-loaded device like this one, it's not as much about the roms themselves but more about the time taken to set everything up and organize it. Hard to say where to draw the line but I'm happy that products like this exist for those non-techy people who just want to play these forgotten classics.
bought this a month ago no regrets. factory card is glitchy tho, transfer it to a sandisk and you're solid
im playing pokemon yellow at da moment

I have a Miyoo Mini and a MM+ but I've struggled with putting together a good card, it's just kind of a mess. I think I'll buy their card and see if that improves the experience
I can confidently say this is the best games card I've ever used.
@@TechDweeb Ordered. Hope you get a kick back, love your channel
There’s also “Tiny Best Set: GO!” collection, which is great also, I just prefer “Done Set”
I would not install both, as there is some overlap on games.

Just ordered my own MM+ in the reteo gray color. Super exited to play all the games from my childhood.
Quick question, what do you use to charge all your emulation gaming devices safely without damaging them?
Getting one in a couple days, fully decked out, original grey.

If I have this one with the onion card can I put it in my computer and save the whole card then just drag and drop everything onto another card then just put it in another miyoo mini plus that doesn’t have onion? Will it install everything automatically or do I have to install onion then put the games and everything on it?
Yes that would work!
@@TechDweeb so if I put the onion card in a miyoo that doesn’t have onion, it’ll just install onion? I don’t have to do anything on the computer?

Your channel is so awesome !I'm still obsessed with my miyoo mini plus. I'm curious if you've tried out the R33S ? Part of me is hurt they ripped off the love of my life,...but...
I haven't tried a 33s, but I have a 36s waiting in the wings to review. It seems solid for the price, but not nearly as nice as the real deal. And also the 33s doesn't have Onion OS, which is the BEST feature of the MM+. I'd recommend paying extra for a MM+, personally.
I really enjoy setting up my own devices, but this is really neat and tempting! 😂
Thought about picking up one of these in the near future because I love the Gameboy aesthetic. Plus, I feel like this would be an awesome way for me to chew through my backlog of Gameboy/GBA games as well! I felt like I'd just own my Steam Deck but nah lol
Definitely great for GB/GBA games!
The Miyoo Mini is easily my favourite handheld it's just so tiny

There are bigger handhelds out there. The 405v is only 1/2 inch bigger than the MM+ but it feels way bigger when it's in your hands. And then of course there's the Steam Deck which runs retro games like a champ!

Im not to techy, but i have a rg353p and its fun out of the box. I have a question though, if i just bought the 128gb sd card with onion installed with the link you provided, would that would on my rg353p?

is there a place where we could download the curated ROMS as seen on this video? I really liked the arrangement of the roms and how the "standard" games are separate from the "best of" games. I also love the pre scraping which saves a lot of time. Google drive, or mega link, please?
Sorry, this is 128gb, too big for me to upload :S. I bet there's a good image out there if you go hunting though.

I never knew that turning on show interlaced video made some games run better. What exactly is it doing?
Would be cool if you can show how to overclock the miyoo mini plus using a pc and without using a pc.
I just got one for my birthday. Where can i find themes like yours to put in it?
My theme is included with the latest version of Onion OS
I've only recently got into handhelds and I can see why Onion held so highly. I've only used Batocera, which is very pretty, but doesn't have the ease of Onion.
I just want to know if it has Yoshi's Island. Been wanting to pull the trigger on my first retro handheld but it needs to have Yoshi's Island. I've just heard the Nintendo is not a fan of that.
