I went to Renala after Boc asked nicely my first time through the game. Once I got there, I didn't realize what I had done because he stared at me silently. Then returning a second time later, I found his true fate. There was a message rune next to him with over 3000 praises wiritten in only two words. "I failed."
That moment of community mourning hit me harder than any "You Died" screen ever could.
I like to use the "you're beautiful" prattling pate to lock him out of that fate. He's also super happy afterwards too cuz it sounds like his mum 💐 my precious boy.
There's nothing quite like the horrible realization that you have utterly destroyed such a beautiful soul.
If there is one thing this community understands perfectly, it is pain.
I had a bittersweet time in my first run in the game. I saved Boggart, but I failed Boc.
Wonderful allegory for icarus but isn't that what a lot of dark souls is about. People trying to ascend, to transform into something through false means instead of self improvement always seems to end in tragedy.
That doll windup at grace. Brilliant.
Reminds me of the killer crusty doll scene in one of the first Simpson treehouse of horrors. Almost certain it’s a reference because of the gesture.

I think most people did this thinking they were just doing something nice. He asked so politely. You have plenty of Tears. What could the harm be?
But nobody stopped to think about the fact that _you,_ Tarnished, are holding the only Great Rune of the Unborn, which is the only thing preventing the deleterious effects of Rennala's rebirthing process from turning _you_ into one of her giggling, vacant children.
Let's face it; without a guide specifically telling someone to do so, how many people would have thought to use that one particular prattle plate on _this NPC_ out of all the NPCs in the game?
And how would anyone have found out in the first place without datamining? It could've been _years_ before someone discovered it by pure accident.
Do not hate the witless Tarnished who inadvertently sent Boc to his doom. Instead pity them, for they know not what they do.
@@MichaelTheRead I mean, you find the prattling pate in a village full of demi-Humans with a demi-Human queen boss and the pate itself has a description that mentions it must have come from a mother's unconditional love. Consider that Boc frequently talks about his own mother, even by FromSoftware standards, it's not too out of left field as to what you're intended to do with it.

The tarnished playing with the doll with no intention or knowledge that Ranni is present definitely feels canon. The tarnished just wants a peaceful time to play with the doll

@@ibrahimsultanov7355 thank you! this isn't mentioned enough. I do like Ranni, but she's doing a very noble thing but for selfish reasons and it costs two of her oldest friends to perish. Millicent is doing a very selfless thing to learn of her past. You help both along the way, but Millicent actually tries to help you back and doesn't see you as a servant.
Those Blaidd clones were SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult than Blaidd himself

Ranni says that there are more than one of them looking for her in this place ("Eliminate the Baleful Shadows which prowl these lands" - plural), sadly later she changes the dialog for the last baleful shadow ("O Shadow, thou'rt the last") so there's only one you find. I was ready to fight 5 or 6 dudes down there.
I feel like that is because he is either holding himself back or the connection to the powers of his brothers is severed due to the cold magic. I like to think he was still somewhat aware but trapped in madness. His death felt more like a mercy.
I loved how Miniature Ranni had the tarnished pull her pull string so she could keep talking. I also really laughed at the fishing minotaur in the lake of rot. It works so well.
That Treehouse of Horror bit with Ranni was ADORABLE
It fits with the Tarnished always screaming like Homer. lol

That bonfire scene was sweet.
I refuse to acknowledge Tarnished as a true simp unless he spends the rest of the game wearing Ranni's dress.
Ultimate Simp run:
1) Kill D when you first meet him, to force his twin to fight you and kill him in the Siofra aqueduct, those preventing him from killing Fia at the end of her questline.
2) Complete Ranni's questline.
3) Complete Millicent questline, siding with her so she dies on her own.
4) Meet the three fingers to get the Flame of Frenzy to prevent Melina from sacrificing herself to lit the forge. Then use the unalloyed gold needle from Millicent to stop the influence of the three fingers and be able to get Ranni's ending.
@@dennismarquez7354but to use the unalloyed gold needle you have to let Millicent die. Thus, you must never get her the prosthesis, and beat the game as frenzy flame. Melina may hate you, but as the simp you(r tarnished is/) are, they probably did anyway

Millicent dies no matter what option you choose at the end of her quest line. if you side with her you receive the needle which then you can use in the flower left behind by Malenia, to get Miquella's Needle, which is what allows you to remove the influence of the Lord of the Frenzy Flame. Thus saving Melina without being hated by her.

I remember appreciating Ranni for veing the first character in a fromsoft soulslike to actually complimenting us for our fighting. From our perspective we look like a dope rolling and flailing but in-universe we're still slaying demigods.

1:11 Thankfully the rot triggered. We all know that if you make it before you're infected, you wait the full 5 minutes for it to wear off instead of wasting one of your perserving boluses. We would've had to sit here for a while.
I actually just finished off part 1 of Ranni's quest today. I'm glad I watched this as I very rarely actually rest at sites of grace so wouldn't have seen the option to talk to mini Ranni if I hadn't watched this 😊 Also loved the bit with Renalla at the end!
The portal sound when he picket up the hat was genious!
I didn't even bother looking for that talisman in the damned lake. I wouldn't have minded the lake so much if 1) it had been just poison instead of rot, 2) if we'd been allowed Torrent, and 3) if the rot build up wasn't so damn fast.

You can also dramatically reduce the damage of scarlet rot if you roll in it then get back to land before the effect takes place.
If the effect activates while on land, then it does half damage.
Then you only need 2-3 flasks to go across the whole lake.
