This is one of Linda’s very best vocal performances. And as a massive Fan I can say I have probably heard everything she has done backing, duets, Spanish, operetta, jazz, blues, roots, country, I could go on ♾️ but Linda had a strong and profound bond with 50s rock and roll. And this is just epic
Linda Rondstadt's voice is also CLEAN as well as emotively POWERFUL....she's able to channel the essence of the lyrics she sings about, which is a unique quality!
Linda is amazing in many genres. She does rock, country, pop, Mariachi, American songbook, light opera... I highly recommend La Charreada (live version) and Poor Wandering One from the movie version of The Pirates of Penzance. Her versatility is breath-taking.
Linda does such a great version of this Smokey Robinson song. She is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum" (with The Stone Poneys), "Long Long Time", "You're No Good", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. Linda also collaborated with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris on a few "Trio" albums.
Great great cover of original by Smokey Robinson/Miracles. Linda & Dusty Springfield r noted to do covers as good or better than the original. Smokey & Linda did a great duet with this 💎 and Ooo Baby another great cover by her. Definitely one of the greatest singers of all time.
Linda’s voice always gives me goosebumps! Powerful, smooth, perfectly pitched, saavy delivery and decades of beloved songs that will bring new fans for every generation! ❤
#1 pick for me is -------- Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville singing "Don't Know Much" (live 1990) really is a must see/must hear performance. (It was a hit record and seeing it live at an awards show just highlights how great they both can sing. This would be a great one to put on the list, or do next:)
You've now heard the country ballad side of Linda with Blue Bayou and the soul side with Tracks of My Tears. Highly suggest You're No Good live from the Midnight Special to get the rock-ier Linda. And like someone else suggested here La Charreada for her foray into Mariachi (she's part Latina). Incredible versatility with Linda.
....a little bit of trivia.... At the start of the video, the guy with the glasses & ginger hair at the soundboard is Peter Asher who was half of the duo of Peter & Gordon - a popular British duo in the 60's who had hits written by Paul McCartney. Peter helped foster the careers of Linda and James Taylor. The guitarist & backup singer was Andrew Gold who wrote "Thank You For Being a Friend", used in the opening credits for the television show "The Golden Girls". He had a bit of a hit with "Lonely Boy". He also was a studio musician who played on albums from many others like Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Cher.....I could go on... Suggestions for more Linda: "LA CHARREADA" - an amazing listen & a must watch "TUMBLING DICE" - Linda rocks it with Jagger's approval As always, thank you for your reaction Steven!
Linda Ronstadt is my personal favorite female vocalist all time! Anybody can have their own… She is mine! Update after reaction: thanks for picking up on the clapping and such. I’m going in to listen to the record now just to see if all that is on there!
Late to replying, but as a huge Ronstadt fan, this is not the studio recording used for the record. While the music is the same as far as I can tell, the vocal is totally different, with many alternative vocal inflections (let alone the clapping not being on the record).
Linda’s voice is angelic. I love her cover of this great hit written and performed by Smokey Robinson. In fact, there is a video of Linda and Smokey singing this song as a duet. Thank you for this great reaction that reminds us of how great Linda’s voice was. Sending prayers for her as she faces her medical challenges. 👏👏❤️
Linda had one of the greatest voices. It is too bad she has a medical condition and can’t sing anymore. Please listen to one of her songs in Spanish “La Carreada”. What a voice. She sang on broadway and the movies. She started out with the Eagles before they were the Eagles. “Different Drum” is one of her earlier songs with the Stone Ponies.
Had to comment again, notice that she sang every word of this song eyes CLOSED!!!! It shows how she wants to be tuned into what she hears as she sings.
The red haired guy with the glasses in the recording booth is the famous Peter Asher, producer and agent of Lnda Rontadt. He ws s connectedto the Beatles....his sisterJane Asher dated Paul Mccartney for about 5 years, and his duo, PterandGordon had many hits in from 1964 to 1967 thanks to McCartney helping them get started. He managed and/or produced James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt and many others.
Her voice not only pleases the ears, it can hit you in the feels like few others. If anyone ever dares to pitch correct old Linda performances or album reissues, it will be time for the torches and pitchforks to come out. It's inconceivable, I know, but that hasn't stopped them from doing it to Randy Meisner and others.
Brother you picked up on her happy spirit and an all around good soul. I just watched an interview at her current age and she still has that happy spirit shine through, even while she can longer sing and function that great due to her illness.
So, So sad my precious idol gal from long ago can no longer sing. This old country boy was in love with her. And still do. Greatest voice ever in my memories.
Thanks for sharing this is a fantastic version of this song there's so many out there... I remember loving a rocking version of this by a band called 16 tons
I went to the same High School as Linda, Palo Verde HS in Tucson, Az. Altho it was almost 20 years after her, she was still all they talked about. I think you see why. She is as beautiful a person inside and out as she is a singer.
Absolutely love Linda, she was my first album cover crush, then hearing her voice just made me fall in love with her even more. One of her very best performances was when she appeared on the tv show Midnight Special with her singing "You're No Good", which I consider her signature song, but what do I know. LOL
Ok I give up. 😂😂 you already started my memory bank. Just songs from a 5 year span back in the day. I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the great reactions.
Great reaction and info, I’ve seen this video soo many times and you just now taught me something about it…lol Thank you! Listen to her video of “Long Long Time”…..absolutely beautiful
Bitter-sweet for me. My late mom looked a lot like Linda and she was a big fan (she didn't sing quite like her tho 😅). Brings back some good memories with their own tracks.
I am a long time watcher ...and one time I came off ugly to you about not presenting the live version videos vs studio.....didn't mean it to be so scathing, guess I was in a crabby mood, but I also love watching great musicians make the magic. Even the videos that are made are better than a plain album cover. Its the fire I love. Not the perfection of a studio version. So, I appreciate your fire for live as well.
The song was also recorded by Johnny Rivers in 1967. Her singing was always amazing - 'Blue Bayou' and her cover of the Everly Brothers 'When Will I Be Loved' are among my favourites. This song always reminds me of The Miracles "Tears of a Clown".
Saw Linda in concert one time at Rutgers University around 1980. Great show. Linda does not have a bad song, I believe it is impossible for her to sing a song that a person would say was no good. That's how amazing a singer she is and has sung many genres like folk, country, rock, rhythm and blues, songs in Spanish.....I could go on and on. Glad to see you react to another one of her great tunes.
Love, love, love your channel. I love your analysis of three of the greatest singers in music history, Karen Carpenter, Linda Ronstadt and David Gates. Each means so much to me spiritually. On the rock side, the great voices of Paul Rogers, Annie Wilson and Steve Parry..they all have one thing, they got their start and came to popularity in music's most magical decade, THE 1970'S....I concede Journey may been early 80s but I always say beyond the 70s, the other two greatest decades are the 60s and the 80s!
Another thing, the guy on acoustic guitar with the blonde hair sure looks like Don Felder of the Eagles after he left. Another reminder, the Eagles were Linda's backup band before they were the Eagles........
Check out one of my favorite Linda Ronstadt performances... Linda Ronstadt - You're No Good/Live at the Tennessee State Prison 1977 I don't think this is the released version, but rather a live in the studio performance for a promo film (that's an early version of music videos) Let's Go! If you listen to interviews with 70s bands and artists, a lot of them did record live. Michael McDonald said the Doobies recorded this way and had baffling around the instruments to minimize bleed through and did have the drums in a different room. There's just a different energy when everyone is playing together and feeding off each other's energy and you can pick up on that quality in the recording. This is also why live performances in this era were so good - because that's how they always did things.
Hey Brother! Love your reactions. I also love the authenticity of these studio recordings. Having said that you should check out the Eagles studio version of I Can't Tell You Why - Certified Banger and a straight up masterpiece. The video is a little long as it takes a minute as there setting up in the studio but I know you'll especially appreciate that. Keep doing great work!
If you think Linda's english songs are great, listen to La Charreada from her album inspired by her Mexican/American heritage. It will make your jaw drop!
I may be wrong but I'm thinking that the guy on the left in the studio shot is Peter Asher of Peter & Gordon fame & who is responsible for James Taylor being introduced to Paul mcartney & recording 'Fire & Rain' at Abbey Road back in the 60's!!!
You really need to check out, "It's Good to be Alive" by Imelda May. The video is one of the best ever and her singing is awesome. Linda Ronstadt does a beautiful song called, "Silver Thread and Golden Needles" written by Mike Nesmith of the Monkees. Have a great day

You're just scratching the surface with Linda.
A Smoky Robinson Motown Classic!
Willie Nelson said “there are 2 kinds of men in the world, those who love Linda Ronstadt , and those who have never heard of her”.
If you haven’t seen Different Drum, you really need to. It’s where it all began.
Linda is the GOAT. Check out her swing and Latin music too!
She has one of the most iconic voices ever! ❤
Linda does such a great version of this Smokey Robinson song. She is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. Desperado with the Eagles backing her. Perfection.
The greatest most versatile vocalist of her generation. Also, the biggest selling female vocalist of the 1970's. Source: Cashbox
Great great cover of original by Smokey Robinson/Miracles. Linda & Dusty Springfield r noted to do covers as good or better than the original. Smokey & Linda did a great duet with this 💎 and Ooo Baby another great cover by her. Definitely one of the greatest singers of all time.
When they had the 25th Anniversary of Motown, Linda was invited to perform two songs with Smokey Robinson at the show.
You MUST watch the live version of Linda Ronstadt on the Midnight Special singing "Your No Good"......
She does an amazing live version of Desperado and Blue Bayou now those 2 songs will blow you away. Also her Spanish songs unbelievable.
OH: HOW I MISS HER BEAUTIFUL VOICE!!! ENJOY, STEVEN!!
Linda was the greatest.
Wow, that was beautiful. I've never took a dive into her catalogue, so I'm here for it!! 🤟🤟
She sold over 100 million records for a reason and was the largest selling female of the 70’s.
Linda is all you had to say in the '70s.
Linda’s voice always gives me goosebumps! Powerful, smooth, perfectly pitched, saavy delivery and decades of beloved songs that will bring new fans for every generation! ❤
You nailed it! Absolutely amazing! 🔥
I believe at one time...her back up band was the eagles more or less...listen to Carmelita....really really good!!!
A great song by Smokey Robinson and the miracles of course written by Smokey Robinson himself!!!😘😘👍👍👍
Great cover of a Smokey Robinson song.
Linda could sing the phone book and make you care about everybody
she mentions.
#1 pick for me is --------

#2 I forgot about this one for a moment...."All My Life" 1989 Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville is the other one I love that they do.
Gotta love live studio recordings.
One of the greatest ever and probably did more genres at a high level than anybody.
Dolly said in an interview that Linda had the top voice of their generation
Linda Ronstadt is one of my favorite female singers 🎤 🎶 and she nails this Smokey Robinson & The Miracles classic 👍
And her band had some really great artists on their own including the late Andrew Gold and Mike Botts(drummer from Bread)!
You've now heard the country ballad side of Linda with Blue Bayou and the soul side with Tracks of My Tears. Highly suggest You're No Good live from the Midnight Special to get the rock-ier Linda. Long Long Time is a must listen.
Linda has always got me❤❤. Her vocal abilities give me the bumps of the goose. Enjoy Steve!!!❤❤❤❤❤
The original song was sung by Smoky Robinson and the Miracles.
Linda sings Motown. Nice.
She will rip your heart out with her tune about unrequited love "Long Long Time"
You've got an old 'soul" and a penchant for classic pop music. This was probably early 1970's, 50 years ago.
Linda had one of the greatest voices. It is too bad she has a medical condition and can’t sing anymore. Please listen to one of her songs in Spanish “La Carreada”. What a voice. Smokey Robinson does this song to perfection!!! You should check out Aaron Neville and Linda on “I Don’t Know Much” ❤️

It shows how she wants to be tuned into what she hears as she sings.
Great insight!!! 😁
@@setonhillstudiosLinda does another Smokey Robinson song with him called “Ohh Baby” and it’s 🔥
She loves me😂
She loved me first

Good reaction. The band with her will soon be the Eagles.
Linda & Stevie are the most beautiful women to ever walk this world.
This a cover of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles' song and Johnny Rivers has good cover of it too.
I love her voice too 😊 ❤
If you haven't heard her singing "Desperado" live, you have missed out on one of her best performances with the best emotion!

Pitch perfect voice.

Love Linda Ronstatdt! My absolute favorite version of this song.
She had an up tempo song in 1980 called How Do I Make You, that is a really good Rock song and the vocals are very powerful.
