- Today we’re cooking up a classic corned beef hash recipe. You can mix your own leftover corned beef or use canned corned beef with diced potato and onion to create this hearty breakfast dish. I keep the seasoning simple with just a little pepper, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce, so this dish doesn’t require many ingredients. Ingredients for a Corned Beef Hash Recipe
12 oz CANNED CORNED BEEF
2 med POTATOES
1 Lg ONION
2-3 Tbsp WORCESTERSHIRE
1 tsp PAPRIKA
1 tsp CARAWAY SEEDS (optional)
OIL for the skillet
SALT and PEPPER to taste
...add a little fresh or dried HOT PEPPER if desired
How to make Corned Beef Hash
Heat oil in a skillet on medium heat.
I like to slice and sear my corned beef in the skillet while I prep the other ingredients for this dish. Corned beef in the can is already cooked, but that sear adds even more flavor to the recipe.
Remove seared beef from the skillet and set aside.
Add in diced potatoes. Cut potatoes uniformly, slightly smaller than a game die. You can skin the potatoes if you like, but why? It’s easier not to skin the potatoes, and the skin is good, so think about it, dude. Sauté potatoes for about five minutes. Give the dish an occasional stir, but not too much.
Mix in the chopped onion, and continue sautéing another 5 minutes.
Add in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper and cook for another 5 minutes.
Shred corned beef into the skillet and mix well. Raise the skillet temperature to medium high and continue cooking 5-10 minutes more, or until the dish is done to your liking. - Навчання та стиль
My gran used to make us this in the 70’s. She always put in a can of corn with it. It was so good. I miss her a lot. ❤
Now that is a neat idea from your gran. ❤👍
@@justinwebb3117 I’ve had it with and without. It is definitely better with the corn. It adds a nice sweetness to it that pairs with the salty corned beef
A little hint for your can of corned beef is to keep it refrigerated, then it slides out of the tin easy, cuts easy, and cooks real easy, try it sometime.
That makes sense.
Thank you
Fyi: it did not slide out easily, even with puncturing that carb in it. But I made some paddies and they still vroke apart.
My advice, just suffer through the pain of a slow cook and stop lokking for short cuts, the end result is worth it.
This hack simply took more time to prepare but reminded me of the fact there are no short cuts to good food.
Thank you regardless.
I cooked hormel from a cylindrical can.
I get mine in tapered cans , slides easily.
I just spoon it out into melted butter in a skillet, and fry it.Season of course.
Well this is just great. Recently diagnosed with high blood pressure and on a low sodium diet. Bought 2 cans to try your canned corned beef and cabbage recipe. It was great but BP went up 40 points. Said to myself just save the other can for a dire emergency. Now you do this. Have put the local ER on notice and am trying this today. Thanks
canned corned beef is salty!---I generally don't add additional salt to dishes where I'm using corned beef--but that being said, I do use worcestershire in many corned beef dishes I prepare, so that's more salt...but even adding zero salt, it's still a lot just in the canned meat. I enjoy my meat and potato breakfasts, but they're not my regular meals anymore, maybe once a week...more often than not I'm eating more heart healthy fare for breakfast, because my body doesn't put up with my shenanigans like it used to
🤣🤣🤣
@@ChefBuckRecipes Never have used much salt in my cooking and very seldom add to to prepared food I eat out. Honestly think my high blood pressure is more in my genes than my diet.
@@markgupton1313 have you tried soaking the slices in some changes of water to remove some of the sodium?
Boy I love you! Born in raised in nyc, but a Greek American . Polar opposites, but gotta say I was stressing til you added your spices! Thank you! Cannot live without spice! God bless! Going to make!
Microwave the potato for about 4 mins prior to slicing will count the time in half.
Agreed.
In Britain we have corned beef hash for a snack at anytime with a tin of baked beans in tomato sauce (thanks Heinz), add some of your chopped potatoes and sliced onions, a splash of Worcs. sauce and cook it all together, it's fantastic, put the beans in last for a couple of minutes they don't need a long cook and the sauce keeps everything moist. I've never had a fried egg on top before, I must try that sometime, very yummy.
Such a classic recipe known the world over. My favorite way is is add one cup beef broth near the end and then bake it to crisp it up. takes it to the next level.
Hello greedings from Germany i've cooked this meal with my grandpa and it tastet great! Thanks for the great recipe , I wish yall a good day!
This is the cooking show I've been waiting all my life for....
Takes me back to my Ma -- 60 years ago.
Gonna try it again this week!
This brings back memories…my dad on Sunday morning….making the very best corn beef hash ….EVER!
Loved it! I’m getting accustomed to your cooking 🧑🍳 Chef Buck. I have subscribed to your channel . Keep them simple and delicious! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
This recipe works with Frozen diced hash brown potatoes that you would use to make fried potatoes and it makes enough for the whole family
That's what I use.
Love your corn beef hash recipe! In Hawaii, we have a long history of using canned meats such as corn beef, Vienna sausage, and especially spam! I’ve been cooking a recipe since childhood half century ago. Are usually start with sautéing the onions first, then adding the potatoes, and a few minutes later, the corn beef. This way, the corn beef is not putting up with prolonged heat. At the end, I had that sunny side up egg, alternatively, you can scramble a raw egg into the mixture and it makes pretty curds. Or you can substitute chopped cabbage for the chopped potatoes, to get a stirfry going. Thanks for bringing back childhood memories!
Happy
You can open the other end of the can with a can opener and push the lid The corn beef will slide out easy as be sure to open the other end of the can first. Or a second it doesn’t matter
redrust3 ANY good chef will say ALWAYS the onion goes in first so they will caramelize. Unless you're also cooking bacon. Then it goes first. I cringed when I saw him cook the potatoes and then added the onion.
Hmmm I like your plan not to expose the meat to unnecessary high heat! Thanks!
@@randythomas3478 meat is already cooked before canning…
This is my favorite breakfast when dining out.
Wonderful recipe you have here.
Bravo! Thank you.
We also make the corned beef hash filling into pasties using short crust pastry here in Wales, great to go into lunch boxes.
This is what my Mom made in the 70's. Corn Beef Roll in pie dough. We had it all the time. I just like my hash with toast.
Do they have a specific name a Yank like me could look up or should I just type in Welsh corned beef pies?
No we just call them corned beef pasties, they have a greater quantity of potatoes and onions to corned beef and are simply seasoned with salt and pepper, placed into circles of shortcrust pastry which is folded in half and the edges crimped and then baked until golden, the quantities of the ingredients can be adjusted to personal preference.
@@teresanash-mcneil3443 sounds to me like what is known in the hispanosphere as a corned beef empanada.
Those are delicious!
Would suggest par boiling the potatoes for 3-4 minutes, prior to sautéing them. They will crisp up a bit on the outside as well as be a bit more tender on the inside.
Also some green pepper would be a great addition.
Great video.
Anything that would make this dish more moist is a great addition. And yes, pealing off potato skin and cooking for 5 min prior frying would make this dish much better.
Cooking this right now looking lovely so far. Looking forward for it 😀
Great camping meal as well!
I truly grew up on this from the 60’s to present. Ty
I just tried this recipe and oh my gosh its delicious!!! Such a simple meal too! And very filling i might add!! Soooo gooood!! The cayenne peppers added to it were scrumteous!!! Thank you so much for sharing this!!! My sons loved it!!
I add a little Creole seasoning to my hash. Too much makes it hot. It gives everything a lovely flavor!
My mom used to make corned beef and onion pie, it was delicious and very simple to make.
,
You’re a life saver!!! Thank youuuu! I spent the last couple hours looking for a recipe and finally I find a delicious incredible and simple one!
Love your recipes and your style, informative, no faff, no frills. Brilliant.xx
My mom used to make this cause it was cheap & went along way . This was one of my favorites when I was a kid & still is although it’s been awhile since I’ve made this .
Chef Buck, For those who like myself, haven't got a clue, this DETAILED, STEP BY STEP Tutorial is simply magnificent. Keep up the good work. Sumjarnah ??
That looks delicious. I've never had corned Beef. Thanks for the video.👍
Looks delicious & so simple thanks.
Before puncturing or using the key on the can, heat the can under hot water from the kitchen faucet to melt the fat on the edge of the can. If you heated it enough, it will slide like toast on a breakfast plate as you turn to go the table.
Mind blow!! I LOVE this tip! Thank you🙂
. Never thought about this. Big thanks for the tip
Now *that's* science!
I alway boil extra when doing potatoes...store in fridge when cooled...ready next day for home fried with corned beef if desired
Yummy!!!
I just made it the way you did. It's so delicious. Thank you!
That corned beef hash looks so delicious thank you so much
Thanks for teaching me how to open a can of corn beef. My life has improved considerably.
I made it this evening and it was really nice. I had some left over and it's in my freezer. Great recipe.
Looks mighty tasty there, Chef! Thanks for sharing!
Excellent easy peasy video. Thank you!!
Thank you for this easy recipe. I've never tried a canned meat before but after seeing this video, I'm going tomorrow to buy. Yay. Excited
I usually keep an assortment of canned meat and fish in the cabinets for those times when I want to cook a meal without a lot of planning ahead...it's been especially convenient this past year since we don't go out to the grocery nearly as often as we used to
@@ChefBuckRecipes Sir, great video. Please consider ditching the Canola oil. It is not good for you. We use Avocado oil . It is more expensive but worth it for us. Thanks and good luck.
That looks SO amazing! I am going to make this! Thank youuuuuu
hope you like it--thanks for watching!
Cabbage, Potatoes & Corned Beef..Yummy!!
I grew up on this recipe in my younger days but never had a fried egg with it. I will give it a go. Thanks, Paul UK
Love your videos chef buck! Keep up the great work
thanks a lot!
Corned beef hash & eggs with green onions is my fav.
Nice touch with the caraway. These hashes are awesome because you can make them in advance and just toast some bread in the morning and fry an egg and you’ve got solid breakfast.
Thanks so much for this recipe. I will try it.😊
I have never had canned corned beef, but I am definitely gonna give this a try. I am all about affordable dishes that are satisfying and delicious. Thanks Chef!
I've had way too much canned corned beef in the past year...we've been staying at my mother in laws and canned corned beef is a staple in her kitchen cabinets.
Oh my goodness! That looks great...ok I'm ready to make some right now🙂
thanks!--hope you like the dish
This guy is for real, bro, straight up epic recipes, no BS
Cooking it tonight,sounds really good,thanks chef buck😊
ALWAYS SWEAT YOUR ONIONS FIRST!!
Definitely on my Try A New Recipe list! Looks delish😁❤
hope you like it!--this and corned beef and cabbage are the two dishes I make most often with corned beef
Beautifully done. Thanks.
This was delicious. I made a half quantity like you did but added a couple of handfuls of brussels sprouts, very finely sliced. It was a nice addition
A great video. One could always change the seasonings but seeing how you prepared the corned beef and potatoes makes the job a lot easier. Thanks Chef Buck!
This is a really high end corned beef hash. The caraway seeds and Worcestershire sauce are a beautiful touch.
beauty of a hash, ya can lob 'owt in.
High end? 🤣🤣🤣
@@peterranscombe4435 Yes.
@@olioliver1398 cooking some tiined meat with diced potato and onions is not high end even if you have the ability of adding a few spices.
@@peterranscombe4435 It's all relative Peter. In the corned beef hash category of hearty, home-cooked classics; this is high end. I would gratefully eat this delightful meal and shake the hand of Chef Buck for sharing his method and excellent choice of seasoning.
Appreciate you! Thanks for helping me cook breakfast this AM!
Made this and it is absolutely delicious!!! I am now a subscriber and presently scrolling through your other recipes
Just became a subscriber....I enjoy the no frill recipes, yet tasty w/o hunting down items in a store.
This is great! I've had a can of corned beef I'm the cupboard for months and didn't know what to do with it. Now I know. Thanks.
Try chopping an onion and boiling it, along with some Potatoes. Mash them together with some Butter, salt & pepper when cooked. Chop a tin of Corned Beef up and blend it in with the Potatoes. Put it in the top of a hot oven to brown, add some mature grated cheese on top for the last five mins. Serve with what ever condiment you fancy. Enjoy.
Spam is only ripe after about 10 years in the back corner of the shelf past the sell-by date.
Just make sure that you put the hole in the right end off the tin,
Makes a good taco filling too.
My husband appreciated this by saying, "make this again, much better than canned hash". Thanks Chef Buck and Happy New Year to you and Camera girl... cheers.
oh, that canned hash is pretty rough...every now and then I've ordered corned beef hash at a diner and been served that pre-made tinned stuff...it doesn't have enough texture--way to mushy
I bought 4 cans, mistaking what I bought for a new corned beef. Was I ever disappointed.
Barely any meat with just a bunch of bland taters.
(Donated the other 3 cans)
So many steps for something so simple but I still love this
One of my favorite meals from my childhood. Subbed.
Corned beef hash is a classic breakfast in the midwest. I live in Chicago and it is on breakfast menu's all over the city. Thanks for the video.
Pinch the sides of the can on all four sides to compress the meat in addition to the air hole on top and the meat slides out every time. Works great with refried beans too. Love your recipe. I like to crush it all up and then with the spatula sort make a rough patty in order to crisp some of it but stiil leave most soft. Gosh my mouth is watering now. Unfortunately my wife wont let me make this as much as i would like to. She loves it too but she now makes me use ground turkey in a hash because she says she wants me to live a little longer. Oh well. A happy wife is a happy life.
Looks delicious. Going to make this right now. Will update my results!
Excellent video! Thanks!
Thanks, Chef Buck. You got right to it, without all the extra fluff, introduction and other crap lots of folks do.
This looks so delicious love corn beef hash it’s me and my dads absolutely favorite breakfast side with eggs thanks take care
Your dad rocks.
Gold! Thanks mate.
I'm late to the party but I'm from the UK and just found your Channel I have to say yours is the best recipe I've seen looks amazing! I'm learning to cook really and this is perfect ty xx
I've NEVER liked corned beef hash, thanks to being in a juvenile detention center many years ago.
But, I work in retail now, and looked up the difference between corned beef hash and roast beef hash.
After watching this video, I'm actually wanting to try this, but with the roast beef hash in a can.
Thank you Chef Buck, love the beep beep beep parts, got me rolling over here man
🤣
Just made this I’ll never make canned hash again this was so much better loved it thanks for recipe!
If you’re going to show opening that type of can, it would be nice to mention that it leaves the can edges very sharp.
I will be trying this, it's my favorite
Looks good 1 of the best breakfast dishes
Love it, Chef Buck! Canned meat has always been a bit of an anomaly to me, but this looks fantastic!
One of my fav things for breakfast. Caraway seeds is a nice twist.
Genius!I have not used canned meat. But I will try this. Looks 😋

Nice and simple! My kinda dish! Thanks, Buck!
I had to throw the caraway seeds in there like a monkey wrench, but although it's a nice addition, it's extremely optional
Gonna definitely give it a go..looks delicious 😋

Over the pond here - best easy corn beef hash. Thank you! 🇬🇧👍
Awesome video, Chef Buck. Love how you walk us through the entire process from opening the can to the presentation. Great humor and narration as always!!
thanks!--I kind of fumbled on getting the beef out of the can, but that happens about half the time I open corned beef

Proper winter warmer 😍
Gret Post i have all the ingredients this is going to be my mouth wartering lunch tomorrow thanks for posting Chef B
Looks great! Seems like I saw you make this once before... gonna try it. Have to add, the way you pronounce “onion” has me convinced you’ve spent time in Louisiana! Slips out every now and then. 😁 Fun video!
My pronunciation of onion has gotten better over the years...I haven't lived in Louisiana for 20 years now, so I think I've shed a lot of that region from my tongue, but maybe I'll get it back one day.
Hey pronounce onion just like the late Justin Wilson…
That looks yummy yum. I got a can but didn’t know how to open the can with key. Thanks for info
@chef buck I have a bunch of Corn Beef hash and hungry. You just taught me how to cook it reasonably!!
I make mine in a similar fashion right up until the Worcester sauce. I've never tried that but I will. I don't do the egg either because this is a dinner dish not breakfast. Anyway, I add a green pepper to mine and sautée it with the onions, and you're right, use a huge onion it's even better that way.
I always eat eggs for dinner.
