You mentioned Argentina corned beef which is a Filipino brand but it's not remotely the best corned beef in the Philippines. That distinction goes to Purefoods corned beef. Like other local corned beef brands in the Philippines, the consistency is not as mushy like in Libby's or Hereford. Here the consistency is more meaty like shredded pastrami and has a lot more juice. Purefoods has that and overall better flavor and meatiness. A close second is Delimondo. Argentina is considered of lower quality here, a more affordable, cheaper option.

I'm sitting in Sydney right now, I live here. Never heard of Ox & Palm corned beef. When I was at sea on the ocean liners it was well known that Australian corned beef came way down the list of desirability. Having eaten corned beef for nigh on 80 years I can say that cold is best. Hot only with potatoes, never on its own.
Tinned corned beef is not salt junk, the sea term for corned beef, which is basically salt pumped (pickled) or just salted beef, which is better than tinned if one wants hot food. Though both tinned and salt junk are great cold.

I'll agree wholeheartedly with Libby's canned corned beef being the best. But, at $7.99 a can, it's definitely a treat. I haven't tried libby's hash, though. I usually go with Brookdale from Aldi for both hash and corned beef. i also like mary kitchen and Meijer's store brand.
I had some of the Meijer's hash mixed with a little bit of the Libby's corned beef for lunch and it was excellent. i want to try some of the brands they listed on here that I've never heard of like Grace and Jamaican country Style. I buy Hormel's Mary Kitchens or Libby's. And I'd have to say that both are good. I generally stick to these two brands because I am familiar with their consistency in taste. I learned at an early age that bargain brands do not do well when it comes to corned beef. But, I will say that I have an Aldi's up the block from me and I will give Brookdale a try. I like it cooked crispy with 3 eggs over the top with OJ for breakfast or Pepsi for lunch or dinner.

I love Corned Beef Hash and eggs and so when I was in Aldi I bought the Brookdale Corned Beef Hash ($1.59/15oz can). I was not prepared for what happened next. I decided to make corned beef hash and eggs for breakfast the next day however, when I opened the can of Brookdale brand I was turned off. It was gray making me think air had gotten into the can. I emptied the whole can onto a plate and it was pink and gray. I took a picture and went to Aldi and showed the manager. He gave me another can to replace the one I opened however, two days later when I opened the can, the same! This was shocking as it is made by Hormel. So, I have been forced to go back to the expensive Mary Kitchen Hash ($2.99/15oz can), made by Hormel.

Definitely Hormel! I love both Corned Beef and corned beef hash. I love slices of Hormel Corned Beef on toast. It is a fantastic sandwich room temperature. However, I prefer hash warmed and sometimes with a little ketchup or Catalina dressing for a slight kick in flavor. I keep an extra key to unwind Corned Beef cans as sometimes in storage at home, I occasionally have lost one. I refrigerate leftover Corned Beef, but occasionally warm it in the microwave to all most room temperature. Libby brand is second best in flavor. Corned Beef is a fast, quick meal with little fuss or mus! ❤

I have tried the blind taste test between Libby's, Hereford, and Walmart. All three have an identical stamp on the metal top which states it's a product of Brazil and contains the same identifying information, product and official inspection numbers. They taste the same to me and have the same texture. Save your money next time and buy the best priced of what you find on the shelf the day you're looking for it. Oh, and if you're making your own hash with it try substituting boiled turnip root for the potatoes. Uhm good.

OX & PALM is made by Heinz Australia. The red label round squat cans are quite good and chunky style. The "squarish" cans Americans are used to are like the video says, but I do find them better than the Brazilian and other South American brands.

Here in the Philippines, "Virginia" brand is most popular -- because customers consider COST and TASTE. If money is no object, "Purefoods" -- which has the Hormel license -- is the best local brand. Purefoods also sells "Chunky Corned Beef", a low-cost but high flavor product. Canned CB is sold by every store -- BUT -- FRESH CB is very difficult to find in the supermarkets. Purefoods Chunky CB is what I buy, even if I can easily afford the imported Hereford and Libby brands.

As a kid in the Fifties, and teen in the Sixties here in Western Canada, by far my favourite was Boston Corned Beef from Australia. It was common where I lived then. Disappeared from the radar some time between 1966 and 1988... not sure why. I loved the texture and the taste. No brand today matches it. Anyone have a clue what happened to it? Wish it was still available, unchanged.

Essentially you told me what I have always believed, Corn beef should come in nice big slices with cabbage and boiled potatoes and beer on St. Patty's Day or between two pieces of rye bread, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing or horseradish. It should not be run through a meat grinder with potatoes and added gunk looking and tasting like dog food by any company.

I like to use southern style frozen hash potatoes. Melt butter in a skillet (to taste, it's your hash), add diced onions if you like and sauté until the color changes a little. Add your amount of potatoes and let the frost cook off. Add your corned beef in small chunks. I like black pepper in mine too. Once I add the corned beef I kind of fold over to warm, rather than mixing and stirring. If that makes sense. Eggs plated with it are always a nice added touch of protein!

Corned beef even if cooked from corned or salted brisket does have a certain amount of beef fat. If cooking with canned corn beef the main error is adding to much of additional oils when cooking with onions and cabbage. Chilling a can before opening to eat straight out of a can is another tip, as the excess fat can be isolated. Before spam from the US was made available in WW2 the main canned meet supplied to British and Commonwealth troops as combat rations was corned beef. The bully beef and biscuit (Hard tack in thinned biscuit style) was a field ration staple along with what ever was available plus the ubiquitous vitamin C tablets.
