You can make it for breakfast you just have to get up a little earlier or have everything already ready the night before just make sure you put your potatoes in water the little lemon juice keeps them from turning brown or you can cook them tonight before put them in ice box heat them up in the morning
This looks great, the lid on the top makes all the difference, to go with the onions I like using bell peppers as well just to add a little bit of extra filling and flavor/presentation.

I take onions, bell pepper and some garlic and blend it into a purée, then I add that to my potatoes n mash it all together with milk and butter. I'm from Chicago and my Irish German mother always cooked this with the eggs scrambled in them, I do the same at 86 yrs.❤
Don't worry about the video quality - it all came across fine and the potatoes look great !! Thanks - trying them today.
I can smell them cooking that’s just the way my Mom taught me to cook them. Thanks for the memory.
Your potatoes are making my mouth water! For dinner, sometimes I add cut up Kielbasa sausage to my potatoes and onions for an easy one pan meal. I can't wait to try your recipe, I really like thyme and never thought about add it to this recipe. I also have a problem with my onions burning and I can see by your video that I am adding them much too early. Thanks for the recipe!
Same with me! Now I know to hold off on the onions till later, and use a lid.
I also cook kielbasa into my skillet potatoes and sprinkle them with shredded cheddar cheese.
This sounds good
Have a side dish of cinnamon applesauce. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
The closing close-up was delicious. I could almost taste it! I love potatoes like that in the morning!
I enjoyed watching your video, short and to the point. Gotta love "eye ball it" cooking. :D
Nice! Both of my grandmothers and my mom all made this. Its amazing even with just salt and pepper, and it’s crazy how delicious and simple it is at the same time. Smells amazing while it’s cooking, too.
Looks delish! I never thought before to add most of seasonings while the potatoes are still hard. Great tip.
I make mine just like this. And I put a little dish of sour cream or Greek yogurt on the side as a dip when I'm eating them - it's really good!
Sour cream is so good with them
I love me some Home-fried potatos for breakfast with bacon & scrambled eggs & cheese. Girl you cook them very similar to mine.
Very similar to my Austrian grandma's recipe. Love it! Your treatment of the onion is spot on. All the flavor without any sulphur bitterness. Great video!
A perfect fried egg on the top of this would just set it off perfectly for breakfast.. Looks tasty!!
No I like it this way better
probably cook some eggs for another course on the side that’s what i’m getting ready to do (6:30 AM)
I add one too!
You can beat the egg and pour over the cooked potato and gently mix to cook the eggs together. Now have with some flat bread .we call chapati or roti.
South African Indian
@@sushilashukla1289 That's the way I like 'em, whip some eggs with a little milk and pour it in once the taters are done stir flip it around some, ready. I also have to put garlic and chili peppers in everything. Tried not to once, failed and did it anyway.
This looked fantastic! Like my grandma used to make with more seasonings. I love how you present the ingredients and let it be simple. I can't wait to make these. 🥰☃️🥰
Thanks for the memories. I’ve made these from time to time. Never thought to add a bit of water. Thanks.
These look delicious! My grandma called these smothered potatoes. I love them. Thank you so much for the reminiscing over my grandma’s cooking. She would serve them with chicken fried steak strips . I love them for breakfast too with eggs and fried bread.
Awww sweet!! You're welcome. There's nothing like grandma's cooking, lots of love in every dish. I'm glad this video brought back treasured memories for you, I bet she was an excellent cook!! God bless you and thanks for watching💞❤️
@@TheSimpleWaywithDelilaI love you ❤️😘

My dad used to always make us potatoes and onions on special Sunday’s. Yummy! Thank you for helping me remember-such a beautiful memory. They look wonderful! 😋
OMG, those potatoes look incredibly delicious! It is 11:17 pm and your video has me seriously considering going out to the kitchen to make these!! LOL Thank you so much for your excellent video and instructions. I will definitely make these for breakfast! Yummy!!
My Gramma used to cook these in her cast iron skillet. 💖 Thanks for the video - it looks so good!
Yep, that's the secret to the best Fried Potatoes and onions.
Wow I have cast iron pots that I hardly use, thanks for the idea 😜😜🇿🇦
Thanks for sharing this simple but rich meal 🎉❤🎉❤
Looks good! Technique and timing is everything.
Wow amazing potatoes and onions, this is a great breakfast option for sure!
Who said potatoes can’t be cooked for breakfast, in fact, I m going to start as of tomorrow…there!!!
Loving this simple and yet delicious recipe, I would add peppers as well and cook this to go with so many other dishes .
Enough with boiled, roasted or fried potatoes or mashed….
Thank you dear 🙌🙌👍👏❤️
no one...NO ONE ever said potatoes can't be used for breakfast! LOL
You can make it for breakfast you just have to get up a little earlier or have everything already ready the night before just make sure you put your potatoes in water the little lemon juice keeps them from turning brown or you can cook them tonight before put them in ice box heat them up in the morning

Looks perfectly delicious and simple. Thanks for sharing.
This is one of the meals my mama first taught me to cook. Loved this video!!
This looks great, the lid on the top makes all the difference, to go with the onions I like using bell peppers as well just to add a little bit of extra filling and flavor/presentation.
If you like that you should try my recipe for mashed potatoes. I take onions, bell pepper and some garlic and blend it into a purée, then I add that to my potatoes n mash it all together with milk and butter. It turns the mashed potatoes orange n gives it a really nice kick. You could also add spicer peppers as well or even do it with sweet potatoes as well
@@UnimpressedGoose you should do a video of that recipe. Sounds amazing
Looks fantastic, making this tomorrow morning with eggs and sausage. Thanks for sharing
THEY LOOK WONDERFUL!!!!
My mom used to make these when I was a kid and now I literally make them for my children. They are so good and go with everything!
I had these as a kid too. 😋 My mom made some of the best southern fried potatoes/onions. They do make a great side dish.
I've never made them with that particular blend of spices, I'll have to give it a try because they look delicious!
Oh looks so delicious, trying this in the morning. Something different for the family. Brings back fond memories of my mom's special breakfast additions when relatives would visit for the summer. 🤗🥰
I made these potatoes yesterday and added garlic and carrots to them…they are the best!! Thanks for sharing!!!!!
One of my favorite dishes for breakfast, lunch, or supper! 💜
It's looking fantastically 'Nostalgic' in the low kitchen light. It is just perfect. And, this recipe is so simple to make. Best of all this is a vegetarian dish - I too can make it and enjoy.
I'm always on the look out for skillet potato recipes. This is the best one yet. They taste just like the ones my Mom made.
Look delicious. Must try this simple recipe.
I usually use potatoes that I’ve cooked from the night before. Only takes a few minutes and are crispy and delicious. Great video👍
Me too! And they are already seasoned too!
I made this recipe for my grandkids and they loved it! Thank you for sharing this recipe with us. 💗💗💗
Another easy to follow and great recipe. My family loves this skillet potatoes. I left out the onion because we didn't one any, and it still came out great. Thank you!
I'm Italian and this is how my Mom used to make fried potatoes. Onions, garlic, parsley, salt and pepper. That's it ! "DELICIOUS ! When those potatoes get crispy ? OH MY ! We would have them with Steak, chicken, or with breakfast. SOOOOOO GOOOOOD ! 👍
It's 6am in York England just been watching your fried potatoes and onions, looks so good l am going to make some for breakfast, thanks so much from Marsha xx
Yes I was going to add this is how my Italian grandmothers made potatoes, I still make them like this as well
These look absolutely amazing. Now I know what I want for dinner.
Awesome sauce😎
Looks delicious, haven't tried this before but it is now on my Sunday Breakfast menu. Enjoyed the presentation, thank you.
I tried this recipe and they were delicious thank you I used red potatoes 🥔
One of my favorite dishes. I like your concept of speeding up the video while also giving precise instructions on the process of adding ingredients. My kind of videos to watch and learn from.
Fried potatoes and salmon cakes! Yummy 😋
Yes indeedy👋
Yummy! I am from the UK and we used to have a similar dish called potato, onion and cheese pie. Similar recipe but we layered the fried taters and onions, with grated cheese in between layers, then a thick layer of cheddar to top it off. It was finished off in a dish in the oven, I can taste it right now. Thanks for bringing back childhood memories!
That sounds delicious! I'm from the US, but I have distant family over in the UK and I spent 15 days over there a few years back and she made some amazing food that I've never had over here in the states. You guys dont get enough credit for your cooking in my opinion!
That sounds different to what ours made, mashed spud, onions grated cheese. Mix it all up and put it in an ovenproof dish with more cheese on top, shove in the oven for 15-20 mins and devour.....delish. I make it for mine even now!!
We call that SCALLOP potatoes... theres a difference
I just made this for my family this morning. I got the idea to cook this by a picture on a Jimmy Dean meal in the store. I was inspired by your video to make it myself. I've made this two days in a row, thank you for your channel and inspirational. Makes me miss my grandmothers. My wife and I normally take turns cooking, she just nominated me as the new breakfast chef. :)
Aww this is wonderful!!! I love reading comments like this, it's very encouraging to me. Thanks for your support🥰
Nice to add some julienned red bell pepper for color, maybe a little jalapeno for spice, a little bacon... Why knows?
@@llee8325 maybe some sauted mushrooms
@@llee8325 I like your thinking! Sometimes I make it like you said, add some cooked sausage or bacon and scrambled eggs, then put it on a burrito with sour cream, hot sauce, and cheese!
@@PaladinSix Mushooms would be good added to what I just said too! 👆👆
I greatly appreciate your video not being so slow paced and long drawn out processes of chopping onions and potatoes yours was very straight to the point showed what you needed to show in the beginning of the chopping and then sped it up IDK why some people think you wanna watch them Chop a whole onion or whole bag of potatoes we seriously know how to chop the veggies… PERFECT PRESENTATION ❤
My mom made this dish…called it lyonnaise potatoes. Good eating! I haven’t have any since I was a child. Will make some this weekend. Thanks for the recipe!
Lyonaise an old French recipe, refer to Escoffier!
Thank you for sharing and that looks so delicious and and I am going to have it next time around and I always love potatoes 🥔 for breakfast 🥞 and beef 🥩 stew, too. Yummy 😋
Love this! Great job! So refreshing to see “ normal cooking “
I made these this morning for breakfast along with some hot links and eggs. The potatoes turned out great my 22 year-old daughter like them as well my whole life I’ve always used onions when I make fried potatoes for breakfast, but what I never used was oil and butter to make the potatoes and I really like the taste of that together I added all your seasonings that you showed the only thing I would do different I would cut back myself on the thyme. I will be making them again. They were very good.
Another amazing recipe. I got it right on the first try. They go really well with everything. Thank you for another great video.
Sis thank you . I just made these for the first time and it taste sooo good 😋. Simple and straight to the point !
We were raised on fried taters onions! I always liked when you let some of the tater get a little burnt on the edges. God bless you for bring back some good memories!
Made some last night. They are delicious. We have enjoyed these for a long time. Simply delicious. TFS. God bless.
