Carl actually survives untill the end in the comics, they killed him off because Chandler Riggs was about to turn 18 and they didn't want to pay him extra.
Chandler was underwhelming as an actor when season 4+ happens…. If he just put more dedication into his craft they would have kept him. He even admitted he wasn’t taking it seriously because he grew up on the show
Carls death was so controversial to the point where it was even teased on Hardwick’s Talking dead where he said, “next week is gonna be rough” like he was aware of what was probably gonna happen when the fan base saw this scene of him revealing the bite.
I admittedly stopped watching after episode 8, because I thought killing Carl off defeated the whole purpose of TWD. But, I went back years later and caught up, and I'm glad I did. This is just a chapter in the overarching story, and Carl left an impact for this era.
I can never forgive them for killing off Carl but Chandler Riggs performance in this episode was pitch perfect really showing what he can do and just what an amazing character Carl has become I can’t imagine what it must have felt like for some of the OG first Season actors like Andrew Lincoln (Rick) Melissa McBride (Carol) and Norman Reedus (Daryl) to have to say goodbye to Chandler and let him go the way they had to given all that behind the scenes mess that’s their kid they watched grow from that adorable little boy to this amazing young man.
Morgan pulling that saviors guts outs is one of the most brutal things I've seen on TWD. On par with Rick biting Joes neck. It was like he was putting on a performance on the stage
In 8-01, Siddiq tells Carl his mother used to say, "May my mercy prevail over my wrath," and that it was from the Koran. Rick was there and overheard it.
A lot of fans were angry back then because Carl was supposed to be the future of the show every single thing that Rick’s done to this point was for Carl To just kill him off like that was nothing short of taking the piss to the show’s entire integrity.
This is seriously for me one of the hardest episodes. For Carl to talk about how mom said he was going to beat this world and giving hat to Judith and crying just tore me up. Ready for more guys

I often wonder how much laughter was involved in filming the fight scene between Rick and Negan. "Do you ever shut up?!" must have sent them into laughter....
They saviors got out of the sanctuary cause they got the idea when Daryl busted in the wall and the walkers were pouring in. Regina killed a bunch at the bottom of the stairs and the pile prevented more from coming up the stairs. Then they used music to draw the rest away. So yeah, Daryl fucked up by crashing into the building technically. RIP Carl, really hated the decision to kill him but there was apparently a decision behind the scenes since he was turning 18. They did him dirty and it was a huge mistake, imo. Especially they way he was taken out, bit by a walker helping a stranger!?
Negan is lucky he didn't came face to face with Morgan here. Especialls in this state where he rips out intestines and takes his time with the last enemy standing.

Carl lives until the very end and the very final panel of the comics is Carl reading the story of his father to his daughter, meaning that Carl has been pretty much been telling the story this whole time. It makes Rick really have no reason to keep going, this whole show started with Rick trying to find his family. He could lose Lori, but never Carl

Now onto the controversy of this whole fuckery Now most fans were upset by the killing of Carl Now Chandler was now 18 years old He has just graduated from high school so most fans assumed that he wanted to leave especially since we knew he was headed for college (he was also doing producing music for fun) with the idocity of Carl’s death instead of sending him away for a possible return despite were hurt fans respected Chandlers decision They did a whole big thing on The Talking Dead on his final episode and everything he’s on there talking about him going to college and everything Makes sense He grew up on the show Maybe he wanted his future to be something different Skip to the next day Chandlers pissed off father spills the tea that Chandler didn’t quit he was FIRED Scott Gimple had told Chandler before the new Season that he wanted him for at least 3 more years He agreed to stay on the show chose to attend college in Georgia and even brought a house between the show and and his school so he could be able to do both Scott Gimple knew this and said nothing Chandler had no warning about his death In fact the reason he found out only two episodes before was because Gimple came to the set and told him while they were filming the unknown bite scene and needed him to give off the right expressions for when they showed the flashback reveal So imagine finding out you’re being killed off as you’re filming the scene Imagine after being told you’re being kept made your college decision and noise based on it so you can continue your job only to be fired From my understanding Chandler decided to take a year off before starting college afterwards (I don’t know if he ever went) When fans found out they were pissed Casual viewers probably still don’t know this information So not only did they unnecessarily kill off Carl for (spoilers) it wasn’t even Chandlers decision He wanted to stay on the show planned his whole around it so he was able to do so only to get screwed over A major theory about why was because had now turned 18 and with that and being a main cast member his contract was to be done with a pay increase as he was no longer a minor They simply didn’t want to pay him especially what he deserved so they got rid of him Because they didn’t pay up And honestly you can tell his departure left a mark on not only the show but definitely the actors.
