I've been practicing for 3 years now and I'm a new yoga teacher but THIS is the first time I've tried to do sirshasana without kicking and I did it at first attempt just beacuse of your explanation. I never knew how to push my leg up and it even felt easy! Than youuu!!!
This tutorial is fantastic. I did yoga on and off for years and never managed a balanced headstand. I managed two days in a row! The strengthening exercises in your ‘shorts’ helped too. Thank you.
This has been very helpful especially to hear that it has taken you years to get not headstand. Recently I have become very frustrated with trying and not getting my legs up. You are one of my favourite yoga teachers
Kassandra, thanks for the tutorial but especially by your last comments… when I see this it looks impossible to me, and I appreciate you sharing the pose takes a while to build strength and confidence (and courage!!) to accomplish!! ❤❤
This is my first time doing sirsana/headstand pose. Tbh, I feel more flexible and every little practice is a step forward for me. Thank you so much, Kassandra.🥰🙏
I’m overjoyed! This is the first time I’ve been able to headstand after many years of practice. I can’t stop smiling 🥰 Your explanation was so thoughtful and clear. Thank you for sharing your gift of teaching 🙏🩵
Thank you for this Kassandra. I have been frightened to try headstand as I predominantly learned and got into yoga during lockdown, online, without a teacher present, and worry about injuring myself. I will definitely give this a go.
I've been practicing Calisthenics por 2 months and I'm condition to begin Headstand so I can go to Handstand. I was pretty much afraid to try it because of the neck. However I tried your tips and today I managed to hold the position for about 2 seconds, with just one leg stretched. What a progress! Thank you very much
Thank you Kassandra, this is probably one of the most difficult Yoga poses to master, and this tutorial is excellent. Wishing you a wonderful day....especially if you are standing on your head. 🙂
I used to try headstand a few years back when I was practicing regularly. I was putting the weight too far back on my head. I’m going to start practicing again and really want to do a headstand. Thank you for this!!
Thank you Kassandra for the detailed exclamations ! I'm only able to do the 2nd version (lifting one leg, then the 2nd one), and some days I don't hold more than 2 breaths in sirsasana...but sometimes i can hold 6-7 breaths, and that's huge for me ! Any tips to hold the pose longer please ? 🙏 Little story : I learned to do this pose bc of one of my students. I'm a maths teacher, but crazy about fitness and yoga. This student absolutely didn't care about maths, but wanted to get better in calisthenics, particularly handstand, so we used to speak (and demonstrate, if my outfit was appropriate !) at the end of the class. I know HOW to do handstand but I can't (and never will) bc of a broken supraspinatus. So I gave him some tips, and he was proud to show me some progress vids. And I got envious ! I wanted to go upside down myself too (and not only dowdog😎). So I tried the big inversion that was suitable for my injured body, aka : salamba sirsasana. And we then used to show to each other vids of our progressions😀 Sorry, I wrote a loooooong story here, but it's funny how life makes you take challenges that would have never expected 😀 (please apologize for the mistakes, I'm french !)
Wow how well explained is that?? Amazing explanation, definitely I'll be trying some of the first options to start building some upper body strength, which is my main focus here! Thanks a lot!
I took your advice and taking it in stagez to strengthen my arms first. I'm usually wanting to try it fully first..glad I slowed down my Achieving rate. Felt rry safe doing the arm strengthening.
Great tutorial, thank you! It worked (with a wall) today! My teacher stresses the importance of keeping the shoulder-width distance between the arms a lot. Estimating on the basis of how you feel it may not be accurate. What she always asks us to do is first grab the elbows with your hands before interlacing the fingers. That's your shoulder width!
Great refresher for making sure my technique is correct! Thank you for describing how to engage the body properly. Will work toward the one leg raise at a time way to get into headstand.
Thanks for this video, very clear explanation. Looks like I'm still firmly in the building strength part of the tutorial. But with practise, who knows...
Thank you this is very helpful and I like you care about people being safe. I have a lot of pain in my quads and hip flexors, this is the biggest hindrance for me. What should I do? Streching my legs before praticing headstand?
Fantastic work out really target the core and glutes really felt it in the whole body thanks u guys rock i always feel like I had a full body circuit work out u guys rock keep up the great work have a wonderful evening see you next work out 😊
What an in depth tutorial. Thank you for this. I'm still scared of doing headstands without a wall support because one time I've tried doing it without a wall and rolled over and landed up wrongly on my back to the point i've strained my neck and upper back. It took three to five days to lose the pain.
Thanks Kassandra. I was able to do the first variation on the first try probably due to the strength in my shoulders I’ve acquired in daily practice with You over the last year and a half. Quick question- Are headstands ever incorporated into a sequence, or flow? I am going to make it a point to come back to this training video - if an opportunity to undertake the pose popped up in flow it would be really cool as well. Thanks again…Namaste ❤
Frankly, I want my goal to be getting back into morning and evening yin yoga sessions (whichever one I can do that day), and then after I get used to it again, I'll try doing the first two exercises (before the end of the year).
Great tutorial, thanks! I only have a question, are there any other ways how to activate the core, especially the underbelly? I was following the steps in your video, but somehow it is difficult for me to feel and use the bottom core muscles.
I realized that after a year of working out, my muscles are in pretty good condition (incl. core), but my flexibility is a joke. I can't bring my hips above my head, and when raising a leg, the best I could do was slightly above horizontal. I guess that's what preventing me from achieving the headstand. What exercises would you recommend to improve my flexibility for the headstand? I guess it's actually the same as training for a leg split, but I'm not sure.
I am able to do a headstand technically but when I do I feel like I am drowning. I don't mean that it is scary. I mean literally like water is rushing up my nose. I do not have a cold or the flu. I do have all year round allergies of unknown origin for which I take medication but it happens even when my allergies do not seem to be acting up. I used to be able to be upside down without this problem but now it is all the time =(
Im also a yoga teacher, but have in the past shyed away from inversions for a variety of reasons. But im now open to start learning again to feel confident to teach some things, so this was a great reintroduction to this teaching. I feel much stronger now after 10 years of yoga teacher training than i did when i was first learning this in YTT. Thank you for sharing Cassandra. Love and Light. ❤
Hi kassandra can you have the camera closer to you it would be nice to see you up close when your doing yoga everyone will be able to see your moves a lot better
It's really impressing how you can keep talking calmly while in headstand!

It's mostly about technique and ab / shoulder strength
Thank you! You too!
Such a good teacher. Thank you for the great videos❤
Very good. Allowing grace & humor with myself & head placement were particularly helpful. Jai Bhagwan 😉
Amazing explanation 👏 👌 👍
I used to try headstand a few years back when I was practicing regularly. I was putting the weight too far back on my head. I’m going to start practicing again and really want to do a headstand. Thank you for this!!
Yes Yes yes the strengthening will help and is key. Keep at it and voila
Omg! First time trying this I was able to do the first one and did not feel any pressure. You are an amazing teacher

Great video. Ive been trying to figure this out

Thanks for this video, very clear explanation. Looks like I'm still firmly in the building strength part of the tutorial. But with practise, who knows...
Thank you Kassandra ! I had my first head stand With your good directions! Yé!
Dear kassandra.....such an amazing tutorial and awesome explanation. Very motivating for beginners to try this difficult asana. Thankyou so much....😊
Thank you this is very helpful and I like you care about people being safe. I have a lot of pain in my quads and hip flexors, this is the biggest hindrance for me. What should I do? Streching my legs before praticing headstand?
Yaaaasss! I've been skipping this part in the sessions. Now I can practice 😂. Thank you K. ❤
Thank you very much. Am going to try this-slowly!

You could do it from a wide legged forward fold as part of a flow😊
I'm learning 😊.

Can you tell me what I should look at when I am in this pose?

Fantastic Video and really amazing channel! :) Congrats on all of your success here on UA-cam!
Thank you so much

Ooooo can you do four arm stand next??? Thanks!
I always wanted to learn the headstand, but I am not there yet.🤪 Thank you for the helpful tutorial.🙏
Thanks ❤
Great tutorial, thanks! I only have a question, are there any other ways how to activate the core, especially the underbelly? I was following the steps in your video, but somehow it is difficult for me to feel and use the bottom core muscles.
Is there a part two?
Do you need to place the back of your head in the cup of your hands or should it be a little bit away from the hands
Which time is best to do this pose?
❤oeeee and what about tripod headstand?

Love it
I wanna do this but I’m scared
I appreciate your clear guidance and instructions, and I'm totally impressed by your strong headstands, but I think headstands are just not for me!
What are the benefits of doing headstands?
Beautiful forever ❤
Thank you! My next challenge for 2023,2024,2025……😅
Is it normal for your head to be itch after it? I am trying my best to not put too much pressure on my head but it still itchy everytime i do one
What if the top of my head doesn't reach the floor when my arms are in this position? Are my arms just too long? 😂
Pop a folded blanket under your head, to close the gap😊
@@sailingnimbus1173 thank you so much!!!!

You can Zoom in ...
I do the float with plough/ shoulderStand ...lol I don't know if I'm ready for headstone though, I fail at chaturanga...😂
🧘🏽♀️🥰🧘🏽♀️
❤❤❤
...sirsasana/headstand pose...
I can do a headstand on my hands, not on my forearms. Is that bad? Why do I find it really hard (impossible, actually!) to do it on my forearms?
Pity my head keeps rising up from the mat, and into a mix of head and hand stand
💞💞💞💞💞💞
And i didnn,t succed coordination and strenght of the abdominal muscles are crucial, let, move on.
