Its soo weird that the most powerful experiences in games are the ones that take control away from you and get you to actually feel how a character is feeling. This video just made me hella excited for your eventual TLOU video to come out.

It depends what you mean by powerful. Joel's death in Tlou2 was very emotional and powerful for example however doom eternals most powerful moments are when you are in full control slaughtering demons. both are just as powerful one is just sad the other is exciting.

Hellblade Senua’s sacrifice is truly a bizarre adventure. The game is really good, but I wished the combat gameplay were better. The game is truly a masterpiece. A experience I could turn back so I can experience it again. It’s truly worth it to play!

At the part where you talk about little nightmares, I remembered a game called "Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons". You play 2 brothers that want to find a cure for their father that is really sick. They always rely on each other to go any further. The youngest brother can't and he needs his older brother's help to cross some rivers. But in the end the young brother is left alone and has to rely on himself in order to cross the rivers. It's a great indie game with a very touching story and no dialog at all

Ive been having a really hard time these last few weeks. Most videos I watch feel like trying to distract myself, music reminds me of things im trying to forget and move on from. But your videos make me feel like... Like its gunna be ok. They arent these glaringly hopeful lessons and tales, but they ARE hopeful none the same. Your voice sits with me where I am and gently offers a hand for whenever im ready to take it. And thats all i need right now.

Let me just say this is by far my favorite video you’ve done for this channel so far (aside from avatar). I love the appreciation for how much goes into interactive narrative storytelling. The beauty of it and how different it is compared to other forms of storytelling.

  • @andrewg6598

This is why I found you, why I’m subscribed, and why I keep coming back to your videos. The stories are what mean the most. Games always had me more intrigued by the world and the narrative than the mechanics. Like reading all the books in Morrowind so I can understand why my character is doing this quest. To understand the heroes journey. No quest markers, no railroading. Free open world.
Often, I watch a video of yours for a movie I haven’t seen because I value the perspective you bring. You provide that insight on games and movies alike. On what motivates characters, on what they have to learn from their tests. You are the interactive narrative. You show the journeys and perspectives overlooked or unheard.

Just bought Senua's sacrifice because of how well you conveyed the greatness of the story and game, honestly I've been looking for games that would give me the same feeling or satisfaction as the games You describe so I'm glad I'm able to experience one firsthand

Every single time i watch one of your videos i get philosophical on the topic and then think about other games and how it ties into a narrative. i found myself thinking this past hour about how a the lack of control makes multiplayer games feel nearly as meaningful its actual narrative side of the game.
i mean i literally started and have been writing a whole essay just about the last of us and its faction mode. and how other people with the same goals and urge to survive and win games can feel more meaningful than it is to play as Joel in the actual story. literally i love these videos and the mindset it puts me in. these videos make me genuinely think on things and brings out some creative takes on games i otherwise wouldn't think about that deeply.
seriously i want you to know and see this. your hopes are realized. these do mean something to people. and it means something to me.

I watched a playthrough of this in a stream and man understanding what the developers went through to make the gameplay as real as possible is amazing. The person I watched(MacdoesIt) at times will go through the history of a game either before or after even if its just on curiosity, it makes me enjoy the game even more.

this may be odd but my favorite part of Hellblade is the permadeath "mechanic", the entire game is based around the idea that you can't trust what you're being show, nothing is concrete and Senua's mental state means that basically everything around you has just as much a chance of being real as being entirely imagined, the premise of the game is build around the idea that it lies to you but when it tells you that if you die too many times your progress is reset you trust it but you have no reason to, just like so much other stuff in the game the danger was all imagined, you can die as many times as you want, it's entirely an imagined danger and it puts you further into the perspective of Senua because it means you can never entirely trust what the game tells you

This vid just inspired me to write something so here it is.
No one starts in a place they desire. They move with motives hidden and veiled. Those thoughts, those ideas that are behind the curtain are the machinations that drive us. To death and ruin or to life and love. Love. Yes, that is what drives us! That is what is desired above all else. We do not comprehend such things when we start but comprehension be damned. The understanding of love is not what gives it its meaning. It is the feeling. The warmth. It’s like being sat beside a warm hearth knowing that your lifeblood is bound to the fate of it. Without it, you fall into the darkness and become a husk. Lifeless. Life. Yes, life. A fickle thing to those who know not the warmth of the hearth. For a life without love is not a life. No. It is an existence of detraction. Dissociation from all that is hallowed. All that is venerated to the highest degree.

It's difficult for non gamers to grasp though, but when they do.... my boss circa '99 was fascinated by OOT. Not a gamer but wanted to essentially watch it til the end. A girl I knew and TLOU, disdainful of games to the point of hate. That first level/Sarah and no soaps/TV for a week, avid gamer now.
Until I invent the holodeck this is it, I'll start next week. Gotta start Horizon....

The Last of Us 1 was the game that made me look at gaming different. It was the first story that pulled my heart strings.
It taught me that the ones around you are all you have in this world. Even though the world is scary, unfair and wanting to end you at every turn, all you have is each other. Never take that for granted.
