This is all so meta. Just the same way they used our hatred, sadness and lust for revenge over Joel's death in TLOU2 to get us directly in to how Ellie must be feeling herself in that game, they used our acquired knowledge of Riley's death to bring us to the same position of dread and fear that Ellie must be feeling, waiting for the inevitable.
They crafted it so well that we didn't have a choice. We aren't just "aww that's so sad" we are dreading and squirming at what's to come, hoping it will be different but knowing it won't be, just like what Ellie must be thinking the moment Riley reappeared

Man, The Last of Us games are probably in my top 5 favorite works of art ever made and this video gave me a whole new way of looking at not just left behind, but the series as a whole, via the cycle you showed Ellie being stuck in and how badly she wants to break it and that realization makes this series all the more impactful to me. Art is an incredible thing and this incredible channel showcases that so well. thank you.

I loved the video. I have a different story cause I watched someone play Left Behind before I knew anything about the main game. I was confused about the snow sections and thought Joel was her dad. I didn't know about the bite. I didn't know Joel would live so during the final fight I was on the edge of my seat. It was also the first time I was a queer relationship in media, someone like myself. During the chase I was screaming the whole time. When Riley and Ellie got bit I lost it. This story on it's own hit me like a truck and I went into The Last of Us knowing about Riley. Thank you for covering this story.

First time watcher and I already can't wait for your TLOU2 video! As someone who played TLOU - TLOU2 and THEN the DLC, I STILL understood Ellie and her decision making before playing the DLC but after playing it, I felt a sense of completion. I ADORE TLOU series and always feel myself wandering back to the story it told. It makes me tear up thinking of the different character's struggles (and that 100% includes Abby) when I reminiscence too much. Thank you for this deep dive into the real meaning behind Left Behind, I hope that people that didn't like TLOU2 can watch this and gain a better understanding to why the game is honestly imo, one of the GOAT

What an incredible video. I'm a big TLOU fan but Left Behind (understandably, as a DLC) is the piece of content i've gone back to the least since I originally played it when it came out. This gave me a whole new level of love and appreciation for it -- I'm so awe-struck by your analysis on Ellie, Riley, and the overarching story. Subscribing, excited for whatever you have next!

    You know
I'm watching your videos for two days now
and each one is filled with passion and sincerity. But this one brings my attention. I always wondered why newly met people leave my life so quickly. As you said.
connection, attachment, and then leaving. I'm not mad( A lot of that people were narcissistic and manipulators) and
I'm kind of the person that rather be alone than be with someone who doesn't treat me like a person. But this year I was really exhausted making new connections. My heart was tired. Why should I try so hard when no one care as much as I do?
I even started to think that I was destined to be alone.
But I've gotten to know a lot of amazing things this year, talked to many people, and discovered a lot of channels (including yours). And I realized I'm not the only one who feels this way and in some poetic way, it gives me comfort. I don't play these games (but it's still my mate's favorite game)
But when you started talking about it and you were so honest about it and you talked about your loneliness... Thank you. You are doing a fantastic job and thank you for doing this. I know these videos will change someone's world for the better. Mine has already changed for the best.

I have a friend that I haven’t talked to in a long time. I think it was just us two going to different schools but even though I know him so well I am scared to talk to him because I feel he doesn’t care about me anymore. He hasn’t died but I still do empathise with Ellie and her story in this dlc. This game should be taken as seriously as the main game. I still prefer the main game by a very large margin but I still connect with this dlc deeply. I’m trying my best to try and make new friends and overcome my social anxiety and this dlc showed me the importance of that.

You know what shouldn’t be engaging gameplay? Pressing triangle to listen to a bad pun and repeating that process like two dozen times.
But you know what actually is engaging gameplay? Exactly that.
Nothing about this DLC is conventional. It was blatantly made the way it was because they wanted to tell a story. This is half zombie survival shooter and half point and click gay teen romance. That doesn’t just HAPPEN in massive productions. Left Behind isn’t even beholden to its own core gameplay loop, half the time it turns into something completely different yet unbelievably complementary.
    Left Behind is ART.

The circumstances aren't the same but the feelings are. The last of us can make you feel all sorts of feelings which is also part of its beauty.Truly my fave game ever. And I can very relate to your part 4.. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on TLOU2. I personally didn't like it very much, but I also didn't hate it as much as many others did. I came away feeling pretty luke warm about it. the original game is my favourite game of all time and I truly think it's a masterpiece. scenes from that game still impact me nearly a decade later and make me feel the same way as they did my first time playing. so honestly feeling just kind of okay about the sequel was kind of heart breaking. I know that may seem dramatic, but I was a teenager who NEEDED that first game at the time, and it really sucks to just be sort of "meh" about the new one. I've been watching your videos for a few days now and all of them are really compelling however, so I'm hoping you will be able to provide me with a fresh perspective. Really looking forward to it

  • @TLN_Nello
    @TLN_Nello 2 роки тому +1

This has nothing to do with the overall video but I think having identifiable music for each segment of your film/game series is a very underrated piece of the story pie. Humans are story creatures, music in itself tells a story even if no words are said. The Last of Us is an excellent example of this. TLOU and Life is Strange really opened my eyes to the power that music holds within story telling.
The Last of Us OST conveys a sense of unity in being alone. Feeling a sense tiredness yet knowing you have another by your side, you’re not going through it alone.
Left Behind reads something different to me, it conveys a sense of fearful youth. A notion that what we have is precious but it can all be lost within a snap of a finger.
TLOU2..is very obviously confusion, dread and sadness but I don’t think people pick up on the sense of longing for the past as much as people should’ve. The soundtrack is a mix of mostly anger, depression, grief and longing. That longing is impactful to use as the player bc we’ve been through it.
With already established music, we feel the emotions that run through those music notes. That is not something u can easily convey within a 2 hour movie.
It takes a series to do that. Yes we see things, we feel things, we interact but we don’t listen enough. Next time u play a series, try to really dive deep into the type of music that’s played. It’s very rare you’ll find a hooking ost but when you do, you get something like TLOU.

As somebody who considers the first last of us game to be one of my favorites of all time, the story being something that still sticks with me today, I would like to invite anyone who liked the story of Part 2 to explain to me why they enjoyed it, I really disliked the story in the second game however I would like to have a friendly conversation with anybody who did enjoy it, maybe it will change my perspective

Personally when I first played part 2 I really hated it, but that’s because I was feeling all the emotions that Ellie felt. Don’t think a game has ever emotionally taken me on a journey like that. As the player were so set on revenge that we don’t care about anything else or Abby’s reasons for killing Joel. It’s evident later on that Abby payed the price for killing Joel. She’s loses all her friends and killing Joel doesn’t fix the nightmares she has till she meets lev and yara. Very similar to how Ellie saved Joel in the first game. I may not love the second one as much as the first one but I can appreciate and enjoy a lot of it.

@@lilbubblegumleaks8104 There’s definitely things about the second game I enjoy I think the graphics and gameplay are absolutely phenomenal and there are parts of the story that I enjoy, however the way that Joel is killed in the beginning pretty much completely takes me out of it, I was crying my eyes out but when you really think of how and why Joel was killed for me it’s too inconsistent with how Joel’s character was in the first game. Joel and Tommy were two of the smartest, craftiest characters from the first game they were hardened survivors and they are portrayed as being very foolish in the second game, I think naughty dog had a lot of good ideas for the narrative in part two but I think they are poorly executed. I respect your opinion though

@@keianroth2669 I completely understand where ur coming from, it’s a fair criticism considering how trusting Joel is in the second game compared to the first game where he knows a group of raiders from a mile away. There is a little bit of a time jump tho so in between those 5 years I think Joel learnt to trust people again, even in the flashbacks we see Joel really happy hanging out with Ellie. I’m not saying it was done in the best way to show that progression. But again if u save someone’s life u don’t expect them to stab u in the back and kill u. So it was a very unfortunate situation for Joel.

@@lilbubblegumleaks8104 Yeah my main problem with it is that they killed Joel off about two hours into the game, we get to learn who Joel is throughout the first game if you’re going to fundamentally change his character it’s going to take more than two hours to show that to the audience and even if he had gone a little soft it seems very foolish to follow a person you just met back to a camp full of people you don’t know who are most likely armed and near your settlement even if you did just save their life
and honestly that’s just one aspect of the writing I don’t like how about the militia group being OK with the pregnant medic going on the front lines of a war

I never got to play this series but I always got bored during the parts of the playthroughs I watched that didn't focus on Riley and Ellie and looking back on it I feel like the storyline with Ellie saving Joel fits perfectly. Riley and Ellie's adventure is just two girls living in the middle of a zombie apocalypse but taking a day to just be kids, have a break and having it continue to switch back to Ellie present day makes it feel even more like a precious break from reality and reminds you of the looming loneliness that Ellie's going to go through

I still don't know what to think about TLOF 2.
    I loved the first game.
    It is my favourite ever.
I thought a sequel wasn't coming so I was happy when one was announced.
But when it came most people didn't like it and to this day it is very devising.
Because of that I didn't buy it to this day.
But now I think that the only way to truly make up my mind about it is to play it and decide for myself if it's good or not.
I think I'll wait until I can watch your video and then I'll buy it.
Then I'll try rewatching all the videos on this game with the knowledge of having played it to finally decide.
I also think I owed it to how good the first game is that even if I end up disliking the sequel I'll still experience it for myself.

You’ll regret playing it, as someone who’s played it 3 times the game destroys everything the first one built. You might as well have never had a last is us 1 with what they did with part 2.

I honestly loved the second game about as much as the first and think it's well worth the play imo. Not to mention Abby and Lev shot straight to the top of my favorite character list!
it's a gut wrenching game and I hesitate to call it "fun" per se (not all stories have to be fun, even if they're part of a video game), but it's an experience worth getting, I think.

Please make a video on The Last of Us Part 2. It's a very divisive game but I love it.
It's themes of how far will you go for revenge and the test of empathy.
We're meant to hate Abby for killing Joel brutally because we got attached to Joel even though we know Joel has done terrible things for survival and the morally questionable act of saving Ellie.
Even when players learn why she killed him most still hate her. It's only when she helps Yara and Lev that might begin to change.
The Wolves have a tribal mindset against the Seraphites they call Scars. Players complete loyalty to Joel can also be called a tribal mindset.

I think with this I can understand Joel and Ellie a but more and why she was so upset over Joel lying to her about the scientists finding others. Even though she wanted to go with Joel so theoretically she shouldnt be that uoset that she was saved from the fireflies, Joel still unknowingly took something precious to her than it Just being about her being immune. At the same time she did the exact thing when trying to keep joel alive. Im for Joel not lying to her about what happened at smae time Id dislike for her to say go ahead and off her because she thinks it has to mean something when they dint even have evidence that itll ACTUALLY result in something.

And Ellie behaviour is almost psychotic...
