I'm almost 40, born, raised, amd probably gonna die, in southern California. Everyone and their mom has at least one dying Honda atc on their property, or at least in their possession at some point. 28 years of riding 3 wheelers in the desert , and still, ive never seen a 250SX in person. Always intrigued me. 185/200s, you can only really expect so much "performance" from them. (Nothing against them, i love them.) The 200x, was so close. I learned how to use a clutch on one, but they're slow. My 350x, solid as a tank. All i can say bad about it, is they are in fact tanks. Basically, what im trying to say is i want a 250SX also.
I used vinegar on a very heavily rusted tank for a 250 Big Red, and it worked great getting down to the base metal, but when I rinsed it I got flash rust using a heat gun, and not knowing the steps to keep that from happening I wasn't sure at the time what to do about it, so I just let it be ugly inside and went ahead and sealed it off with Caswell tank sealer. If only I would have known about using baking soda to neutralize the flash rust I would ha went that route, Live and learn. Maybe next time I'll use Metal Rescue instead of Vinegar.
Great tips about the dangers of cider vinegar. Will keep Metal Rescue in mind. Flashed some cash and talked a little trash to get a nice deal on a 10x16 foot shed with storage built into the elevated roof for all the seats I've been hoarding for 12 years. Be well.
My first one was im thinking as a 53 year old man nkw, so memory sake im thinking around 1982 or 3 200s , that was a fast 3 wheeler for that type compared to the 250r or 350x etc, it was fast
I used white vinegar and ruined a tank by forgetting about it. After cleaning my Big Red tank I put in a couple cap fulls of two stroke mix to help coat the tank with something while being stored.
I just put vinegar in my tank yesterday and was gonna let it sit for a few days. What's the longest you should let it sit before it will become a problem for the metal?
It has always run like a champ. Frame is solid, rear fender intact, front fender chewed on by dogs, forks needs rebuilding, front and rear brakes work, started burning oil last year but not bad and hope to put a new piston and rings, etc next summer. I'm just wondering if it is worth putting $500 or so into getting up to snuff. I've seen some insane prices, like many thousands, for them online. Just don't know if those are real or not. BTW, like your channel. I get lots of great knowledge from it. @@mrcbuilds
I use Evaporust. Sounds like it’s the same metal rescue. I leave in in tanks sometimes a week with some nuts or bolts inside the tank and shake it around once in awhile. I usually dump it out and strain it after a few days and then put it in for another few days. The tanks come out like new and no flash rust. I try and keep the tanks filled over the hump with gas afterwards and I put a splash of 2-stroke in the tank to try and help with stoping rust.
Hey man huge fan of the channel i've been watching your channel and it's Been mighty useful for my Honda trike I own. I was wondering whats the cheapest way you would do a top end rebuild on a Honda 200ES motor if it's blowing blue smoke?
Hi William, price out 2 options. 1 the too end kit from G and H tou can find them on ebay and amazon. Kit include a shindy oiston and gasket set. Optuon 2 on ebay you can buy a shindy piston and gaskets separately. You will want to replace the timing chain and guides . You can rent a valve spring compressor from autozone for free, pick up some valve lapping compond and lap your valves. You need to mic your cylinder, if you need an over bore G and H has a mail in service or you can have it bored locally. Download the manual and follow it, you can do it.
question for you I have a 250SX engine on a four wheel drive buggy that I built and when I use the blade grading for a good while moving slow it gets hot, do you have any suggestions on keeping it cool
Well its an air cooled engine. First thought if its getting hot your gearing is wrong and its working roo hard, so can you increase the gearing?. Next may be an electric fan, that machine will charge a 12v battery so you could put a fan on it. And lastly you could plumb in an oil cooler like the 350x and use a inexpensive trans cooler from a parts store. The last 2 ideas are just bandaids if your gearing is to high.
Funny when that four-wheeler was actually made we didn't have battery-powered drills that we used to you know screw screws and bolts and like we do now, back then we just use the wrench nowhere either a ratchet oh, it just got hit me as a 53 year-old man up changes of everything 2 out of 3 years name some things are good but some things are bad to some of those good things actually cause the bad things because like most things things that are good end up being used for bad nice-looking three-wheeler love to know how much you want for it
Evaporrust is great as well 👍🏼
Hey joe, i have heard good things about it too.

@@38possum thanks for the tip, the county didnt spray this year, i think thats part of the problem, that and a lot of rain this summer.
Did you have to neutralize it?
@@muddinbros4873 thats the best reason to use it. No just empty it rise with water, dry completely and its ready to use

depending on how thin the metal is a couple of days is fine.

What is a running Big Red worth these day? Low? High?
Demand for the 250cc and up machines is still pretty high. condition is everything.

Une belle restauration de réservoir métallique d'essence.
Bravo, comme d'habitude, c'est parfait 👌👍
Continuez comme cela ! 💪
merci monsieur, j'adore ces vieilles Honda mais vous devez continuer l'entretien.
Hi so how do you store the tank when not using it
Fill it with fuel and add some 2 stroke oil seems to be the best. Or completelt dry and no cap, so it cant condensate.
What happened to the lt250r
I have it, just need to get back on that project.
