Quick note of thanks for the recommendation on caswell tank sealer. I have now done three tanks and none leak👊👍
Thanks for watching, and I appreciate the feedback
Water pump seals are bad is the cause of the gear oil mixing with small amounts of coolant
I've had some surprises pulling drain plugs over the years! Chunky, lumpy, and several different colors of oil. No worries. Just have to see how she looks after the drain and fill. Nothin you cant handle!
✌️🔧🍩
Thanks Dan, a couple of flushes will tell us more for sure. The machine was clocked at 71mph after the service and new tire.
Oil looks typical 2 stroke to me. It's from clutch plates and gears in case I've had 2 250r quads a 250r dirtbike couple blasters and kx 85s
Thanks Benny
Probably clutch material making that oil gray..
I'd say waterpump seal. Yes it usually turns milky like light Grey. But who knows what kind of oil was in it. Might mix dark Grey with coolant. Run it for 10 mins and check the color of the oil again. If it's Grey again it's deff coolant leak. Clutch could do that yes, technically. But that nice of a machine I highly doubt it. My money is on worn waterpump seal brother
Thabks dennis, i will watch it and report back
Does the 85-86 250R completely blow away the 350X in a drag race? I've owned a 350X but never got a chance to ride a 250R.
In a drag race, yes.
Transmission oil could be contaminated the clutch material or worn clutch basket , inner hub , pressure plate , ect ( definitely aluminum) imo
Im thinking alluminum too. Listen to how the machine sounds as i pull out of the shop. It may just be me but it does sound odd
Same prob I had. Grey and about twice as much came out as there was supposed to be. Bad water seal let the water creep in. Bought ATF Type F and did a 5 flush day. Replaced the water seal. And seem good to go now
Thank you, im down to clutch or water pump seal.
I once used a piece of 5/8 or 3/4 i.d. thick wall steel tubing about 2 inches long and used a bench vise as a horizontal press to do wheel studs its a heavy duty vise, mind you but still better then a big hammer and a bigger swing
I have changed them many different ways but a press is best.
@@mrcbuilds one day I'll have me a press
Remember that alot of automotive atf fluids are red in color do it could be just some off brand.
Could be. We are going to keep flushing it and see thanks for watching
In 85 they had aluminum clutch plates they did not last 86 they used steel but by now i bet the aluminum ones are out and replaced unless its super low hour
This motor was rebuilt, based on all new gaskets showing, but there is no telling. It starts and runs great but that only tells part of the story
@mrcbuilds oh yea the unknowns lurk everywhere
Should my oil be pretty clean and clear after sitting for more than ten years.
It depends, you say clear? Are you sure its not water your seeing? Regardless id want to change it, so i could be sure. Depending on how the motor was stored it could have condensation build up or even rain water inside. Its not worth the risk. But i understand not wanting to spend good money on a bad engine, so rule of thumb, get it running and up to temp, then change it.
Clutch fiber creates gray oil. I ran atf in my two stroke trannies
I have also ran atf. Both have good qualities. Thanks for watching
looked like dirty royal purple oil with clutch dust mix
Could be, this seems to be a quality build.
I once had trans oil that was so dirty i changed it 4 times in 1 day just to flush out the dirt the 4th time i rode 10 minutes and the fluid was just a little hazy now its good and gold
Thanks, that the plan, change it everytime he rides. I am hoping its clutch material.
@mrcbuilds yea it will take some run cycles to stir it all up
Could be coolant getting past the water-pump seals. The oil will be milky if that is the case. The magnesium waterpump covers can corrode very bad if waterless coolant was not used or the coolant wasn't drained and machine sat a while. You might want to pull the cover off and have a look.
The vacuum this collant system has make me thinking the seal is good. But we will keep an eye on it.
Good service video, I'm a little concerned about that oil, I won't speculate. That thing is beautiful.
Hi Pat, best move forward is to keep flushing it every ride.
The oil looks like clutch burning and old oil.check water pump seal or head gaskets.
Thank Darren. Will keep an eye on it.
Just like you was talking in your video I have a 86 200x and an 86 250R that I bought brand new in 85 I still got them and they all still run like new
Do a video on changing fork fluid.
I have a bent fork video in the works now
3:53 thats why i work on only my machines
This is a friends machine, i dont do work on strangers for these reasons.
@mrcbuilds amen I assist friends at their shop and their discretion
Looks like old 80wt
It could be. Hard to certain when you buy something used.
Mine always kinda looked sliver, coming out of my 250R. I assumed that was the clutch plates?
Im hoping thats correct in this one too
Actually, lemme rephrase that.
If you let it go a long time, it'll come out silver like that. But one time, my oil came out looking just like what you got there, and my clutch was actually slipping at that point, and one of the 7 plates was broken. Of course, you'd know if the clutch on this one was bad by now.
I wouldn't even worry about the oil.
@@dogsandwich77 thanks for watching and posting your experience
@@mrcbuilds love your videos man! They're very realistic look at atc's. Anyone that loves them and works for a living can relate.
Just aluminum clutch plate wear making the color. Oils been in there a long time.. its fine. Drain, flush and replace
I am hopeing its just that, it will be changed often now. Thanks for watching
We've got 2 six foot shelves at the shop filled with mineral, semi synthetic and full synthetic oils, 3 different trans fluids and a variety of diff lubricants. Some have a little bit of an off color to them and who knows what advice the last owner listened to. Another reason to go through the machine as soon as you got it, right?
Exactly that way you know for sure.
Here
Hi cain
Your channel is growing, my 3 wheeler brother! I wish the best for you!
Thank you for all the support
Was it Engine Ice?
What is engine ice?
A beautiful machine. Thanks brother
Yes it is.
Im looking for one of these bikes. Anyone selling one
I suggest join a 250r group, get to know the members and then buy from a trusted person within the group.
