    Water pump seals are bad is the cause of the gear oil mixing with small amounts of coolant

    I've had some surprises pulling drain plugs over the years! Chunky, lumpy, and several different colors of oil. No worries. Just have to see how she looks after the drain and fill. Nothin you cant handle!

    Oil looks typical 2 stroke to me. It's from clutch plates and gears in case I've had 2 250r quads a 250r dirtbike couple blasters and kx 85s

    Probably clutch material making that oil gray..

  • @dennisbrooks186
    @dennisbrooks186 11 місяців тому +2

    I'd say waterpump seal. Yes it usually turns milky like light Grey. But who knows what kind of oil was in it. Might mix dark Grey with coolant. Run it for 10 mins and check the color of the oil again. If it's Grey again it's deff coolant leak. Clutch could do that yes, technically. But that nice of a machine I highly doubt it. My money is on worn waterpump seal brother

    Does the 85-86 250R completely blow away the 350X in a drag race? I've owned a 350X but never got a chance to ride a 250R.

    Transmission oil could be contaminated the clutch material or worn clutch basket , inner hub , pressure plate , ect ( definitely aluminum) imo

    Same prob I had. Grey and about twice as much came out as there was supposed to be. Bad water seal let the water creep in. Bought ATF Type F and did a 5 flush day. Replaced the water seal. And seem good to go now

    I once used a piece of 5/8 or 3/4 i.d. thick wall steel tubing about 2 inches long and used a bench vise as a horizontal press to do wheel studs its a heavy duty vise, mind you but still better then a big hammer and a bigger swing

    • @mrcbuilds
      @mrcbuilds  11 місяців тому +1

      It depends, you say clear? Are you sure its not water your seeing? Regardless id want to change it, so i could be sure. Depending on how the motor was stored it could have condensation build up or even rain water inside. Its not worth the risk. But i understand not wanting to spend good money on a bad engine, so rule of thumb, get it running and up to temp, then change it.

    Could be coolant getting past the water-pump seals. The oil will be milky if that is the case. The magnesium waterpump covers can corrode very bad if waterless coolant was not used or the coolant wasn't drained and machine sat a while. You might want to pull the cover off and have a look.

    • @dogsandwich77
      @dogsandwich77 11 місяців тому +1

      Actually, lemme rephrase that.
      If you let it go a long time, it'll come out silver like that. But one time, my oil came out looking just like what you got there, and my clutch was actually slipping at that point, and one of the 7 plates was broken. Of course, you'd know if the clutch on this one was bad by now.
      I wouldn't even worry about the oil.
