Isn't part of the function of a string trimmer that it flings the cuttings away from the area you're working in? I get pissed when the stuff I'm cutting builds up and doesn't clean away so I can work quickly.
1. You have to move the grass after trimming it. 2. Circle meets square. Corners aren’t able to be cut.. maybe try coming in vertically? All else fails put some weed killer in those spots. 3. It will dull, and you have to buy a new head ($300+) or replacement parts. So it’s not cost effective. So long as you are ok with all that, then it’s a great option.
Tbf his grass is really long so moving it isn’t exactly the biggest thing, and some people are willing to sharpen the blades themselves idk how but if some will do a chain on the chainsaw I’m sure this is no different. it’s not for me but I can see people using this unique tool
you can easily see the blades underneath. they can be sharpened. you could easily send them in if needed. nobody is paying 300 for a new one every time
My last job had these with the same heads and blades from 10 years ago. They're easy to sharpen and or replace as needed. For reference on the amount of weed eating and edging we did it was at the Indianapolis motor speedway and golf course and they were used day in and day out
Tyler decades ago my dad got tired of using so much string on his weed eater, it took a concrete saw blade and attached it to the weed eater. The damn thing was dangerous as hell but cut small bushes and broken branches easily
I know a guy that uses 7 1/4 inch circular saw blades on his. It works wonderfully as long as you arent running it around things that will get damaged. On hillsides, in brush, and cutting around ditch lines, the thing is amazing. I guess it is really a matter of having the right tool for the job. There is no law against having more than 1 tool to work with.

I made a comment before I seen this , and as an owner operator who does excavation and yard maintenance I can 1000% tell you the flinging of grass is what makes your lines cleaner and more appealing.. with these you lose your straight line by restarting after flinging the grass your self , makes small little divits in your lines when lining up driveways
Upside if you did that before you mow the lawnmower would take care of the clippings. Where this really shines is where you have sand or gravel you don't want to throw.
Hey Tyler, i think you can turn the head 90 degrees to make it an edger. Purdy much every other brand has that feature on their trimmers, especially the hotswappable ones.
A leaf blower is needed to kick the cuttings into the yard so the mower will mulch them up. If I was still doing lawncare commercially I would definitely consider using one of those especially around vinyl siding that can easily get damaged from a standard weed eater.

The biggest advantage I see is that it doesn't shoot hard objects (including the plastic line breaking off which hurts as much as rocks do) at your face all day. Now my face is fully protected with a full face plastic mask (that were popular during COVID) and my ear muffs. Ear muffs protect in two ways. Lower decibels and protect ears from flying objects from the weed whacker. With this I'd only need the ear muffs.
I did lawn and landscaping for 16 years. If you watch the discharge, you can minimize what comes back at you. I recommend wearing real pants and leather boots
I use one of these on my 40v powerhead... there are no cleaner edges then edges made with rotary scissors. Ive been using it for years in a part time lawn care business.
We've only ever bought weed whackers. The most expensive one we ever bought was less than $100 and battery powered. Where we use it is on a fence that's less than 100 feet long. We never mow our lawn, we mulch it along with any leaves that fell on the lawn.

I bought one and it's invaluable as my wife has a ton of plants and grasses that need to be dead headed or trimmed down and this things tears through them like nothing else. Even the larger ornamental grass is a breeze to deal with.
Trimmers are designed to push grass out of the way. Also you will notice more spits out a certain way. You can somewhat control where the grass is spitting out by looking at the cord rotation.
I really enjoy your channel. One of my favorite things is to look for you doing potentially devastatingly dangerous things with no safety gear, wearing pajama shorts and bathroom slippers 😂.

we just got a brush cutter attachment for $100. blades are cheap on amazon and it doesn't fling everywhere. but you still need a string trimmer to get in those tight spaces, its just unavoidable.
Well you could get one where it has wheels so you don't need to worry about weight or hight. But maybe some better lubrication could help with the noise.

Just weed eating the yard with my slides ( sandals/ open toe shoes) on using my new GINSU TRIMMER but no worries he has on his safety socks so it's safe . It only has one draw back it is louder than an F16 hitting the sound barrier 🤣🤣🤣. But it gets an A+ ... My question is: Is it serviceable? Can you take it apart, lubricate it and sharpen/replace the blades? I'm not the least bit surprised those counter rotating blades make that much noise. I would think a little bit of Grease might do it some good especially in the gearbox
I put same model on the same Milwaukee M18 powerhead and had twice the noise that you had.. turns out the internal plate that has around 10 nuts holding it together was too tight out of the box. Also seems like there was next to no grease inside the unit from factory. Has anyone added grease upon install before using it? After loosening 10 nuts and greasing internals my unit cut about as loudly as your video demo.
Dude, I wish you could test this on baby bamboo shoots. I'm fighting a yard full of bamboo right now, and since bamboo is stringy and fibrous there are a lot of tools that just aren't suited for the job. Sawsalls are great, but hard to use in a prone position.
The thing I like about string as opposed to blades is the string does sling grass out of the way so you can see where you've trimmed. This blade, it almost seems like you have to waste movement to go over it again to make sure you've cut everything.
Based on what I just saw, if you moved it onto grass, you're cutting it. It did not fail in that respect. Except for edges of course. So if you just trusted the device, you wouldn't need to go over any area twice, other than edges.

This attachment is meant to be used on kept up lawns where you're just removing a little bit of grass. String trimmers are much better for overgrowth like this

You should do what one our guys at the Greenhouse I work at in Ontario, Canada does, he wears a full cover suit, rubber boots, apron, and head scarf/wrap and eye protection, and a sun hat. Using a weedeater harness, that holds it up while he trims the grass edges and ditches.
If you lubricate it somehow(soak in a tub oil?) it might get quieter. Wipe blades dry before using again. There has to be some gears in it that needs lubrication.
There are two screws on top that you remove to put grease in, should be done before first use and it's recomended to use 00 grade grease, it will run quieter and much more freely.
The biggest issue is it will dull and could/will break at some point. Theres another $300 VS a weed eater you can replace the cord for like $1 per use or whatever a few inches of cord is worth.
now try it along a one acre lot. I may look into one of these, only because with a string trimmer, I not only get covered in grass , but also sticker burr balls then I have to dig them out of my clothes.
Been looking at one of these bit the 400 buck made me question it the getting covered in grass wasn't my issue tho it's the having to restring my weed whip 10 times just to get all the way around the metal fence in my backyard
I have a Husqvarna and a sthil weed eater and they both suck. I have to constantly pull the line out even though they are both automatic line feed. Tried different weed eater lines and set ups.
😅 Do you weed eat without a guard? As someone who used to, I put the guard back on my Stihl FS55R, and it truly cut down on such grass being slung. I understand your frustration tho 😅 Personally, this would never work for me and my clients yards. Well, this is a good tool to use before you use the mower. If you trim before you mow, it hides it better. It's essentially a hedge trimmer that spins. So yeah, it's noisy.

This is for maintenance lawns that never get long stuff to trim. Normal string is much better suited for heavier grass
if you use it properly.
this is meant to maintain and be followed up with a rack to clean it up. I clean up after week whacking now so not much difference with this.

There's plenty of ways to sharpen an edge, you can just take a small whetstone and sharpen it by hand.

You could try a manual tool for this kind of jobs too like a sickle. It's cheap and since it's just the sides/detailing, it won't take too much time

I use my hedge clipper attachment as a trimmer and for tall weeds, should try this out on cutting thick weeds and give us a long term review

As a home owner in germany i use my twostroke Stihl FS-120 Motorsinn with a harded steel Star or a Weedeater. Bought it used for 200€ and it's great.

You should try out the weedeater replacement blade options. Way cheaper. They replace the string. Metal and plastic options.
Leave plastic piece on remove metal insert on scissor tool. Make sure you check the grease on the scissor tool before use.

Darwin grips are definitely worth it if you have a lot of trimming to do. They're annoying if you just have a little bit to do each time

now try it along a one acre lot. I may look into one of these, only because with a string trimmer, I not only get covered in grass , but also sticker burr balls then I have to dig them out of my clothes.

Been looking at one of these bit the 400 buck made me question it the getting covered in grass wasn't my issue tho it's the having to restring my weed whip 10 times just to get all the way around the metal fence in my backyard
I have a Husqvarna and a sthil weed eater and they both suck. I have to constantly pull the line out even though they are both automatic line feed. Tried different weed eater lines and set ups.
You really need to lube the blades or will dull quickly also would grease the gear case would probably quiet it down substantially
😅 Do you weed eat without a guard? As someone who used to, I put the guard back on my Stihl FS55R, and it truly cut down on such grass being slung. I understand your frustration tho 😅
Personally, this would never work for me and my clients yards. There’s just not enough versatility in this product for me, and it will never have the results of a good string trimmer, and competent user.
The results of this would have my clients pulling their hair out… asking why I scalped their lawn where I trimmed

Test out the Badger Power pole hedge trimmer as a substitute for a weed eater. That's what I'm thinking about doing.
Trim the edges before mowing that way you can suck up the trimmings with the mower 🤷🏻♂️
I only use the weed eater when I let the lawn go a month without out mowing and the grass is two foot tall, so about 7 times a year

The way to go is do the edges 1st the mow the grass and let the mower shred and collect the weeds.
Well, this is a good tool to use before you use the mower. If you trim before you mow, it hides it better. It's essentially a hedge trimmer that spins. So yeah, it's noisy.
