      "Twelve Dreams..." was not overlooked in it's day. While it wasn't a top seller, it was lauded by the critics and a favorite among college students. And "Nature's Way" got lots of airplay. I adored it. It was their best LP.

      I'd say that all Spirits albums are overlooked...songs like "mechanical world", "Fresh Garbage", "Dream Within A Dream", "Aren't You Glad", "Give A Life Take A Life" & the crushing "Dark Eyed Woman" are all excellent classic songs.

    I listened to some of the Blind Mr. Jones. As you described, excellent flute interwoven in some good rockin 80s guitars. There was a Jethro Tull - Benefit album sound to the flute mix. Still, Blind Mr. Jones is unique and wonderful as a listening experience. Thanks! Keep making more videos; you're good at this. You dig deep, and you are not afraid of the outlier recording artists.

    recently found your channel, great video. going to go watch some of your older ones. you mention Echo and the Bunnymen, that's a great candidate for this list. Heaven Up Here is probably their best known album, but their debut called Crocodiles is really quite fantastic and underrated I think.

    Just found your channel and was sucked in by your Jesus & Mary Chain shirt. Stoked that you feel the same way about Honey's Dead as I do. So many great songs on that one, and the production on it rules. I'll have to revisit the Furs' Book of Days, as I wasn't blown away by that one, but loved their next album World Outside, which I feel is the most underrated of theirs. A band I love that gets little to no love here in the US is Cardiacs, making all their stuff underrated in my mind. haha! A few others I feel get passed over a bit are Cocteau Twins' Victorialand, Devo's Oh No! It's Devo, 7 Seconds' New Wind AND Soulforce Revolution, and Oingo Boingo's Boi-Ngo.

    I love these kinds of lists. Thanks.
    Try...
    Spirit's The 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus;
    XTC's Skylarking;
    XTC's Apple and Venus, Vol. I;
    Ike Reilly's Salesmen and Racists;
    The Beta Band's Hot Shots ll;
    Paul McCartney's Ram,;
    Indio's Big Harvest;
    Super Furry Animal's Phantom Power;
    Steve Earle's Jerusalem;
    The Soundtrack of Our Lives' Behind The Music.
    There is at least one gem for everyone on that list.
    I strongly suggest listening to 12 Dreams in the dark on quality headphones, with no distractions, in the dark. It is my favorite album, period. Not many people know about it, but those that do usually put it on their Top Ten All-time list. Truly a lost masterpiece.
    Ike Reilly is the best rock songwriter of the 2000s...and nobody knows who he is. That record ROCKS!

    Great choices Hanna! My #1 overlooked album is the one and only LP by Goya Dress called Rooms which came out in the UK on the Nude label in 1996. It was produced by John Cale and the Brodsky Quartet (who have worked with Elvis Costello) guested on it. Despite all the resources thrown at them the album just got completely ignored and never got a US release and the band soon broke up. Lead singer and songwriter Astrid Williamson went on to a solo career and the bass player and drummer (Terry de Castro and Simon Pearson) went on to work with The Wedding Present and Cinerama. Just an amazing album and maybe the most buried treasure of the 90s. Thankfully everything they recorded has been posted on UA-cam.

    Hi Hanna! Nice selection of records. I noticed Iggy Pop's "New Values" on display behind you. I think that's very definitely an overlooked record. I had a friend who played me The Idiot when it came out. I liked it enough, but a little later it was the more radio-friendly tracks from New Values that really made 16 -year-old me an Iggy fan, and also really opened the door to other "outside the mainstream" bands. I think it doesn't get nearly as much love as the Bowie assisted records. Wire's 70s releases are rightly in the pantheon, but I really dig their 80s output, too. Keep rockin'! \m/

    I sat in on the rehearsals and writing for some of the Mesh & Lace album and thought they were speaking and playing a foreign language. It was revolutionary to me at the time. I then went out and formed my own band. Was lucky enough to be at the recording of After The Snow which was exceptional but Mesh and Lace will always have a special place in my heart. The opening bass line of Gathering Dust is still the greatest intro to any song ever. Nice one, Reg.

    The title caught my attention, first time viewer. Great album pics to start, I like your diversity with genres. If I can suggest Rick Nelson, who helped start the transition of the Country Rock explosion in California 1967 even before Poco and the Byrds and later the Eagles in the 70s. Rick Nelson & The Stone Canyon Band released Garden Party from 1972-73, that was his big comeback, but there were pre and post Garden Party releases that are very underrated, "Rudy The Fifth" from 1971 and even better, "Windfall" from 1974. When I saw the Gene Clark of which I have everything, I immediately thought of Rick Nelson. Cheers!

    Hey Hanna, totally agree about the Wire, in fact it may be my favourite of their albums. I love The Queen of Ur and the King of Um. I think Elvis Costello thought the sessions of Trust were too congested and confused and full of substance abuse, with New Lace Shoes being a brief moment of clarity, but I agree it deserves place among his best. It's an interesting subject; I realise that your channel is one of the few places where my favourite bands are discussed at all. Most of my favourite albums are under the 'undeservedly neglected' banner.

I remember seeing JAMC for the Honey's Dead tour with Curve and Spiritualized and also being in my friends car when he got a DUI while blasting HD's opening track "I wanna..." Irresponsible teenage stuff! I remember digging that Blind Mr. Jones CD. I think it was produced by Neil Halstead of Slowdive. One of those Gosdin brothers was Vern Gosdin. I'm a huge 4AD fan as well. Some brilliant records and some of the most amazing production and arrangement work of their time came from 4AD. And then you go and pull out "Tanx"!!! My brother had that (and so many other damn cool albums) when I was a kid and would play it. I love "Broken Hearted Blues", "Left Hand Luke", "Rapids". I love all EC albums but I am huge into Trust and own the Rykodisc deluxe edition of it. Some of the songs on it are lesser EC but most are classics. The outtake "Seconds of Pleasure" that took different forms of evolution and then was shelved, I guess, is fascinating, it sounds (like much of Imperial Bedroom) like Rachmaninoff meets pop music or whatever,
    a serious classical strain in the song. Or, it points the way to the "baroque" classical stuff on Imperial Bedroom, as exemplified by the masterpiece that is "Man Out of Time."

      @@TheOmahaIntrovert One of my top EC albums, although it wasn't when I first got the vinyl in the early 80s from a neighbor at his garage sale (!), I thought it was baffling and boring! I had been used to My Aim Is True and This Year's Model. I Bedroom mystified me at first. That Rykodisc edition is fantastic, with the bonus tracks. When that finally showed up around 1995 I was floored since it had "Really Mystified" which I'd heard EC do somewhere in the 80s on a concert broadcast, had no idea what song it was. Of course it's a cover song by the Merseybeats or Easybeats?

Also, the final track on the Rundgren produced Talk x 3 entitled All Of This And Nothing is one of the most haunting pieces ever written and soldified me as a fan. You asked about a cartridge upgrade and mentioned Ortofon. Hard to go wrong there. The 2M Red gets all the love because it's cheap. HER MAJESTY THE BABY - Mary (Little known, mostly female, San Francisco Bay Area band... They were excellent with wonderful post punk / dream pop guitar by Terri Winston and passionate vocals of Lee Paiva driving the songs.) Here's one of the only things I could find on social media from them: ua-cam.com/video/U3OAYjWF4is/v-deo.html

    Fantastic! Your list is a blast. I'm particularly gladdened to see you show "Book of Days", which represented the Furs' eschewing of the record company promotions and push to the pop realm. That record not only blasts out the same kind of intelligent snideness found on the first two seminal Furs' discs, but it also adds more to the library of Richad Butler's insightful commentary about life, and people wasting time. On "Entertain Me", John Ashton's amp caught fire, and you can hear it in the bridge as he does his solo. "Should God Forget" kind of picks up where "I Wanna Sleep with You" leaves off, offering a commentary about people just connecting physically, without love or respect. Awesome. There's one song, "Parade" which always presents the question to me of whether Vince Ely did an overdub on those drums. They aren't super-fast, but the dexterity needed to create the hits is remarkable, especially towards the end. Love that you brought up Dino Jr. as well. I dove in on "You're Living All Over Me" and "Raisins" with that amazing solo. Their ability to create melodies within the fuzz and pack them with punch is fantastic. Thank you for a great video. I just discovered your channel, and will be looking for more! OH! As I type, you're hitting WIRE! Get "Read and Burn 01" and "Read and Burn 02"!! Incredible! They came back after years doing other things, and combined the production capacity they offered on "A Bell Is A Cup" and mixed it with the intensity of songs like "1,2, XU" and early attitude. Just awesome. Be well, and all the best from New England.

    Never watched any of your shows before, but you know your stuff. Mad respect.

      Hi there! Thanks! Yeah, that Buckingham Nicks album was probably my biggest grail when I first started collecting records. Now I own 2 copies and it's still very much a favorite! Cheers!
