@bobbastian760 perks of the job! Even now, years after retiring from being cabin crew, if I tell the crew I used to fly I always get extra treats 😉. Be nice to your crew. It always pays! 🏴

When I was in my mid 20s I worked for a hotel that shuttled flight attendants and pilots to and from our hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I drove the big van and in the 5 so yrs I worked there I met some really cool ppl. I put my back out for 2 weeks from a flight attendants bag being so heavy lol. I've taken pilots laundry home and washed and brought back because he desperately needed that outfit for the next day I lived 3 miles from work. 20 yrs later I still remember how thankful he was . They never make messes in the room to the point we had to mark our sheets to make sure our housekeepers were not just making the bed not changing their sheets. Like they literally just sleep and leave 😂. This is such a cool channel. Save traveling!❤
Kelsey, thank you for giving your passengers such an honest and reassuring look into the real way things work for a pilot in aviation today. Great insight.
Kelsey I FREAKING LOVE the videos where you go through the whole process of whatever you’re doing, ESPECIALLY plane delays, security, etc. anyways that’s my opinion. Thanks!
That was a pleasent video to watch first thing after waking up. Great stuff as always! I'd love to see a video where you try to fully capture the way people act around you whilst in uniform!
Yours is probably one of my favorite channels that I'm sub'd to. It's nice to hear you 'talk tech' and explain all of the flight terminology. I find your career fascinating.
I worked in the airport and I remember the curiosity of whether they’ll let me clear the crew line or not. It was always fun yet stressful so when he said “it’s alright” to you, I had a *huge* sign of relief.
These videos are so amazing. Best videos from a pilot on UA-cam. It feels so real while some other videos it feels like the airline is dictating everything they say and do. You’ve inspired me to start my journey to becoming a pilot
You are right that the Airline dictates what they can say or do. You never hear a pilot name the airline they fly for, which is silly because if I knew which airline people like Juan Browne, Captain Joe, Kelsey, and Mentour pilot flew for, I'd want the flight they operated if I booked a ticket with that airline. You would think the airlines would welcome the free publicity.
@@TheGospelQuartetParadisehonestly I feel these pilots deserve the focus and relaxation without notice that the airline anonymity allows them. Let the content feed you without needing to impede on their daily lives.
Noone has ever made me want to fly more than Kelsey. He is so spontaneous and honest, about his job and his life, I'd love to spend some real time around him but I have to admit, the hotel life & living out of suitcases gets old pretty quickly.
This one is a work of true Art. Loved the transition at 7:00. Music perfect - sets the mood well. Continuity: tells the story in a sequential way that brings us along. I'd nominate this one for the equivalent of a You Tube emmy award, if there were such!
I like how you manage your time without getting upset by the intangibles, Kelsey. So many people lose their cool at delays, or long lines, or heavy traffic.
This is one of my favorite videos. I retired after 28 years as a railroad locomotive instructor. I traveled similar and yes, it's cool how people get excited when they get to see the flight deck on a large plane. There are a lot of folks who are just as excited about stepping into the locomotive cab. There is a watchers club where they look and photograph new or unusual equipment like your dream liner. Keep the videos rolling K.
3 11 24. Just read a slew of comments.. 'agree w every one!! Kelsey is superlative! 'Just ran on to him a few months ago... Watching all these airplane videos, one could vow never fly again.... K has changed that fully. Genuine. Eye to eye. Honesty. Analytical. Vulnerable. Integrity.... He presents all of these. We're fortunate to have him. The blue side is the better for him being there. 💙
Walking that cargo deck and taking those checks seriously makes me happy Kelsey. Watching Petter's video on that cargo flight out of Bagram Airbase a few years ago when APCs rolled backwards on take off is one of the only things I've seen in aviation that viscerally terrified me, and still does. I'd even go so far as to say that that walk-around is almost as important to me as "Kelsey gets all the sleep", or "Kelsey gets first *and* second breakfast for free" 😊
If you want or need visceral cargo related terror, have you seen that video of the tractors shifting on takeoff and crashing the 747, I think it was an american plane in Afghanistan? Ever since I saw that I feel absolutely sick when I watch cargo flights take off. Guys never had a chance, but they eould have if Kelsey had been there.
Hey Kelsey, if you read this. I just want to thank you. I started watching your videos when we had an aborted landing. Your videos definitely help calm my anxiety(it went into high gear after a crash at my home airport and it was due to human error-not setting the flaps for take-off). I have been anxious since then. So thanks for that! Love watching your videos!
9:28 I used to work for FedEx loading MD-10's and MD-11's. When my team would load cargo containers topside, we were told to be extremely meticulous about making sure all containers and pallets were locked in place, and every single stopper had to be up, even in empty positions.

I love that fact you take us through your lifestyle as a pilot. Not only that you just overall try to get us viewers to understand aviation which I greatly appreciate because aviation is a very fascinating way of travel. You are one of the reasons i appreciate and trust pilots so much!

Or you know she was just being nice. It’s not like I don’t have conversations like that from time to time and I‘m neither famous nor particularly good looking.
Nice one Kelsey. Whatever it takes... Free Food - number #1 - - extra sleep - - bonus! I love that you are SO consistent in your NEED for free food! I'm sure you make all pilots proud!
@@JakeDaBossSam Chui and also some other vloggers sometimes get allowed on the flight deck during the flight. But I assume you will need some sort of credential for being harmless, background check or personal relationship to the Captain for it to be allowed.

Go for it, Kelsey! I carried a US diplomatic passport for ~22 years. Over hundreds of worldwide flights, whether on official or unofficial travel, unashamedly, I always went for the diplomatic or crew checkpoints - and was never turned away. 😊
I was a US federal agent for twenty one years (FBI and DEA). We were required to fly armed when on duty, and allowed to fly armed off duty, on US flights. And, I flew armed on a few international flights (when flying to countries that allowed us to carry firearms). The pros, was getting to walk to the head of the security lines and getting to board before everyone else so you could introduce yourself to the captain and crew. The con was, you couldn't drink alcohol before flying or on the flight. And, if there was a problem passenger, you would sometimes be asked to deal with it (my partner had to handcuff and sit on an out of control drunk half a flight one time).
This is the first of your videos that I've seen, and it was riveting. Love the way you explain each aspect. I found it so entertaining and am very happy to subscribe.
I am always friendly and polite with cabin crew....why not be friendly and polite? They are there to serve and care for their passengers and we should be grateful. It makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable.
And in my experience, the cabin crew always reciprocates friendliness and appreciation. I haven’t paid for booze onboard in _years_ simply by always being nice to the crew.
I always love the vlogs - thanks for this! As a moderately frequent flyer (maybe 30-40 flights a year) who also deals with a lot of early starts and random hotels, it's really great to see the pilot perspective! I always wish I could go through the crew lines 🙂
Bro, prolonged sleep deprivation almost guarantees brain damage. I think you should renegotiate your contract to ensure your safety. Your employer won't give a damn if you get dementia decades after your employment. Workers safety goes first!!
Yeah I know it! It's not schedule or contract, but just constant days/nights/day/nights... circadian rhythm gets totally smashed doing that... circadian non-rhythm.
I WISH! I have tried every over the counter and prescription sleep aid legally found in the US market. I even racked up almost 80K in debt 15 years ago trying to solve this with (useless) doctors... had to file bankruptcy as a result... Even if I have nothing happening, I can only sleep 3-4 hours at a time, 5-6 absolute tops, and that's only after not sleeping for 48 hours and climbing 14ers all week... I have cut my caffeine intake down to only 4-6 ounces of coffee per day, attempting to eliminate it entirely. It seems to be helping: I have also found a ton of research showing how any amount of caffeine consumed regularly 'accumulates' (the body gets used to it- I forget the term they used) and has detrimental effects on long term sleep... their hypothesis is this is why elderly people have a hard time sleeping, because of all the coffee they drank in their 20's and 30's... Not sure if I believe all that, but I am on a mission to eliminate caffeine! Honestly, the only other thing I have tried that has helped with sleep has been my recent adventure into the Carnivore diet... all animal based diet. still only 5-6 hrs, but that sure beats the 1-2 hours of sleep I was getting when I was a vegetarian and the 3-4 on a "regular" healthier than most american's diet. (I have literally been trying, and will continue to try EVERYTHING that might help- legally that is)... My hope is to figure this out- perhaps use this to help people (pilots mainly) find better ways of battling fatigue and lack of sleep, than what the currently literature holds.
I think this might've been my favorite video of yours yet. Thanks for taking us on the adventure. I really enjoyed the effort you put in to getting the variety of shots throughout the trip and give us a feel of the journey. I know it's not an easy thing to do filming surrounded by so many people but you did great appreciate the hustle. Flew last feb. from Amsterdam to Salvador de Bahia via Sao Paulo. Had a 6hr stop at Sao Paulo. After long circling around Sao Paulo due to bad weather the flight got de-routed to Rio de Janeiro. Plane got its kerosine there and later on our way to Sao Paulo. The 6hr stopover turned down to a 45 minute stopover and had to go through costums there and check-in and run to the other end of the airport. Made the connecting flight just in time. At least better than the way back via Rio de Janeiro with their agressive scamming shoe shiners outside the terminal. But this airport had a very good (crowded) lounge. Still Brazil (Bahia experience only) is one of the most beautiful places i have visited. Love your videos Kelsey.

Great video! I don't get to fly long haul often, but this reminded me of one of the best flights I've had which was Chicago to Sao Paulo on a United 777 in business. It also reminded me of the preceding flight I took that day from Pittsburgh to O'Hare... the only time I've encountered a let's say "aggressive" flight attendant. I was in an exit row window seat focused on plane spotting and the flight attendant gave the "are you willing and able to assist" speech while we were still boarding, the plane was noisy, and I completely missed it. Next thing I knew she was pulling me into the aisle to be reseated and I had no idea why. I figured out what happened and she wasn't interested in anything I said until I pointed out that it was her job to get everyone's attention before giving that statement. She then let me go, gave the statement again, I said "Yes" and got to sit back in my window exit row seat.

@@bobbastian760 Sounds absolutely right to me. There is a reason crew get a fast lane, and a pilot catching 40 minutes more sleep by using it even the day before their flight: yes, they absolutely should! As a matter of fact: The regular line even got a bit shorter that way. :)
@bobbastian760 perks of the job! Even now, years after retiring from being cabin crew, if I tell the crew I used to fly I always get extra treats 😉. Be nice to your crew. It always pays! 🏴
I could only wish for a pilot as bright. As brilliant, great speaker and knows what to expect. He has sincere smile. He keeps things real and interesting for non pilots. Get some rest and keep making your videos. Really excellent
"Nailed it!" 🤣 Kelsey then proceeds to be on the longest van ride of his life...This was a fun vlog! Have a great week everyone!
Every ride in Sao Paulo is like an hour+, even if you're just going to a hotel nearby, the traffic congestion is unlike most places I've ever experienced.
Especially the reverse Jedi Mindtrick... "This is not the nap I was looking for..." haha... ;o)
His face though 😑 Oh man I felt for him! 😅
@@overcomingobstaclescreates1695 Agreed!
Loved this! A pilot's journey through an Airport, and them looking at the weather from a pilot's point of view...really enjoyed it!
You are so right, Kelsey! I was a pilot for 37 years, with 35,000 flying time. I am with you, man!
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Kelsey briefly when he was in Miami as an employee at the hotel he stayed in. Another great video from you man!! I wish you the best everywhere you go and hope to see around these parks again soon!
I heard he screamed at you for making eye contact.

What an exotic life we lead as midnight freight drivers, struggling for sleep on every turn the lines get longer the food gets worse........😂🤔. Ive been at it since 92' , the Atlas bunch are always friendly to talk with, I like your videos. I hope everything works out with for you all with JF Lehman, one thing we can all agree with is that the airline industry is a constant change and we navigate the turmoil as best we can. Stay safe
I wish I could go on cargo flights in the jump seat, but I am not in the industry at all.
My husband worked in hotels, whenever we stayed in a hotel on the last day he would strip the beds. 😂
Kelsey, thank you for giving your passengers such an honest and reassuring look into the real way things work for a pilot in aviation today. Great insight.
10:49 - those mountains are... GORGEOUS!!! 😍And I love the view form the cockpit, what a sight!
Kelsey I FREAKING LOVE the videos where you go through the whole process of whatever you’re doing, ESPECIALLY plane delays, security, etc. anyways that’s my opinion. Thanks!
right, if you cut all that out then he is just a bus driver lol.
That was a pleasent video to watch first thing after waking up. Great stuff as always! I'd love to see a video where you try to fully capture the way people act around you whilst in uniform!
Oh, Kelsey! You know the ladies don’t look at the uniform! They look at the swagger the uniform gives you!! 😂👍🏼
Maybe she was excited to have a back up pilot on the flight 😂

@@gtfg3800 definitely, at some point I'd wanna slow down and enjoy the area rather than skip around the world

@@aircastles1013 yeah, that's the one I'm talking about. That image of physics at its cruellest is seared into my eyelids

Kelsey, I enjoyed it immensely! You showed how being an airline pilot requires you to be flexible and adaptable to ever-changing situations. Some can, some can’t. You do it well. Nice!
It's called jeitinho brasileiro (Brazilian Way), Kelsey. Even if you are not supposed to do it, you just do it. It always works.
Kelsey skipped a meal? Wow, sure a sign of the apocalypse! Yeah, sometimes sleep wins over hunger.
I love that fact you take us through your lifestyle as a pilot. Not only that you just overall try to get us viewers to understand aviation which I greatly appreciate because aviation is a very fascinating way of travel. You are one of the reasons i appreciate and trust pilots so much!
I like seeing these from the pilots perspective as you’re walking around an airport.
I honestly feel that this video has given me so much info on Kelsey's work life...in a good way. Like this felt very personal and i truly enjoyed it.
I love the new edit format. You're becoming a top-notch Vlogger, I enjoy everyone you put up!
I love how humble Kesley remains - he’s probably one of the world’s most recognisable pilots, but he seemed to think that lady in the lift was just being nice despite not knowing he’s a pilot - Darling, if she’s watched UA-cam then she KNOWS you’re a pilot 😂
Yes he is!! Also Juan Brown, is also pretty awesome
Or you know she was just being nice. It’s not like I don’t have conversations like that from time to time and I‘m neither famous nor particularly good looking.

do you ever get recognized by a crew when flying as a passenger and invited up to front of the plane for pilot-to-pilot chat?
87 likes and no comments? let's fix that
I don't know if that's allowed anymore... Maybe it is
@@JakeDaBossmaybe before or after the flight, never during

@@laaaliiiluuu More importantly, these aviation vloggers got permission from the company before they fly, so you can be sure that their PR will get all necessary paperwork done or they'll reject the request.
Go for it, Kelsey! I carried a US diplomatic passport for ~22 years. Over hundreds of worldwide flights, whether on official or unofficial travel, unashamedly, I always went for the diplomatic or crew checkpoints - and was never turned away. 😊

I carried a D-1 for a couple of years, it did make life easier on a couple of occasions.

I am always friendly and polite with cabin crew....why not be friendly and polite? They are there to serve and care for their passengers and we should be grateful. It makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable.
And this positive attitude and behaviour creates a positive feedback loop and everyone levels up and has a great time.
Yeah, I’ve never understood rudeness. It really bothers me.
But I NEED to speak to the manager NEOW!
And in my experience, the cabin crew always reciprocates friendliness and appreciation. I haven’t paid for booze onboard in _years_ simply by always being nice to the crew.

This might be the first vlog I've watched in years and wow it was really well done! This was actually phenomenal!!
This was a GREAT video! Loved it seeing a slightly different aspect of your life as a pilot! Thank you.
I always love the vlogs - thanks for this! As a moderately frequent flyer (maybe 30-40 flights a year) who also deals with a lot of early starts and random hotels, it's really great to see the pilot perspective! I always wish I could go through the crew lines 🙂
As a Medevac Pilot, I am THRILLED to get 6 hours of sleep! I got 9 hours last night for the first time in almost 2 years!
Bro, prolonged sleep deprivation almost guarantees brain damage. I think you should renegotiate your contract to ensure your safety. Your employer won't give a damn if you get dementia decades after your employment.
Workers safety goes first!!
Im sure there's something you could do to sleep 9 hours most nights
@@chopperskier damn I see... thanks for your sacrifice man! At least you get to fly a helicopter XD

I wonder what's more mentally challenging, flying the plane, or the personal logistics on the ground? Kelsey seems to be highly competent at both.
I would say flying..... Some of the airports when you gotta taxi look like they are going all over the place to be put in a holding spot till there gate opens up... Then there is also weather and flight changes in air.
Flying a plane you train for, personal logistics seem to be shifting all the time and you need to improvise.
The answer is actually taxiing the plane.
Free food and sleep. Wise man.
Taxiing, I think flying is only hard when things go wrong.
Wow it's just wonderful to see how things are done from this point of view.

I met this guy back in May at the FBO Atlantic Avation at LAX. We talked for a few minutes. He flies for Atlas. The first thing i noticed was his shoulder boards. Not only is he a captain but he is a line check airman. He told me. That takes a great deal of seniority to become a line check airman. He made Captain back in 2012.
What is a line check airman (but there must be line check airwomen too)?

I love your relaxed delivery and your crafty moves! Hope you keep making these vlogs !
