- Learning a language means making many mistakes along the way, and that's a good thing. Truth be told, even native speakers take a lifetime (or more) to learn their own language. It's a process! Having said that, I hope you enjoy learning about (and correcting) some of the common mistakes that I hear in English all the time.

Even though all of those mistakes are not about me, I’ve subscribed to your channel due to your artistry and lovely American accent. I look forward to your new videos for more advanced learners though 😃 Well done!
Thank you! I’ll keep advanced learners in mind too 😄
A lot of them beat me. I recently discovered your channel and I especially appreciate your delicate pronunciation, the speed, it's very good for someone who is learning. From Chile.

I'm very impressed with you, Brittany, for your perfect screenplay, twin special effect and acting! Like some Hollywood directors who do everything. I was both entertained and educated at the same time! Thank you very much!

Many of these errors are made by speakers of languages derived from Latin.
"There are a lot of people outside" is curious. You can understand it better if you realise that technically, it is incorrect in the written language. The correct sentence is "There are many people outside". "A lot" is singular the evidence for which is provided by the indefinite article. Strictly, a singular predicate of the verb "to be" would demand a singular form of said verb. "People" is actually a partitive genitive that depends on the singular "lot. It is not the predicate .in this sentence. What happens is that as the emphasis in this sentence is on there being more than one person outside, the verb is attracted to the number of "people" despite its being a partitive genitive (as evidenced by the presence of the preposition "of"), which is a collective and usually demands the plural verb in English.
Thank you for your insightful comment. I almost wish I'd left this one on the editing floor -- for a few reasons (!).
Hi from Iraq ❤
Hello!
My fave: I didn't went to school.. 😅
I've had very high-level students who make this mistake 😃
One thing I see all the time is: "I could of this" or "I would of that" instead of "could've" or "would have"
Yes! This is a common one, huh? Usually from people who speak English as a first language!
@@EnglishwithBrittanyOnce people misheard Mario saying King Bowser, they mistakenly heard Gey Bowser, so they’re weird and they don’t understand Mario’s accent. It was actually Mario saying “So long, King-a Bowser” and he was saying King Bowser with a heavy Italian accent.
I would like to talk with you
How are you ❤❤❤❤
Hi - I'm doing well, thanks! How are you?
what is it called, that you have done at the of the video raising you hand and swearing kind of thing. what do you call that as a whole? from raising your hand to saying (whatever) till the end. looking forward to your answer. 💖💖
Hi! Thanks for your question 😀 The action is called “swearing on (something, usually the Bible).” In the US, this happens in courtrooms before giving testimony. A person is asked to: “swear (usually on the Bible) to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”
Actually I heard in movies there is a lot of people, so americans make mistakes in daily speech
Yes 100%! Americans make a lot of mistakes in daily speech! And honestly, it’s not a mistake that will make someone incomprehensible or prevent effective communication so it’s great to fix it but I hope no one stresses too much about it 😄
I noticed your hair.
💇I need a haircut!
The most annoying mistake I see is using "would of" instead of "would have". Who started this trend?
Yes, this one I only see used by native speakers who have not learned the grammar and so they hear “would of” instead of “would have.”
It probably came from the contraction "would've" which kind of sounds like of.

Okay! :)
