Absolute peak of BMW design. All three sixes are outrageously beautiful cars IMHO, the Gran Coupé especially so.
Agreed. I'm not sure why the 8 series GC just doesn't sit right with me. Such a fatty. The concept was fantastic though.
@@the-boring-car-guy I don't like the current design language of BMW. The 3 and 4, as well as the 8 are kind of blobby formless compared to the lines of last 6 series. And yes they look bloated, I agree.
@@the-boring-car-guy despite being a huge fan of the F gen 6 I don’t think the new 8 was too bad, it’s just not overly stunning. I think the issue is that it’s so big it’s wheel arches didn’t stick out as much as they did on the old 6, giving it that low and wide stance.
Don't you mean all 4? Even the E24 model from the 80s is a work of art on 4 wheels.
@@daskalman I'm talking about that particular generation. The coupe, the convertible and the Gran Coupé.
The looks of these are underrated. Easily one of the best looking bmws ever imo.
Especially the Gran coupés. Stunning cars.
No. From mainstream models, best looking is E92
@@martinkulik9466 agreed
@@martinkulik9466well, he said ONE OF the best and you've got to agree to that
So pleasing on the eye
I remember working at an independent used prestige car dealership a few years back and we had a Grand Coupe version of this, with an interior made from offcuts of David Dickinson. 3 guys came in and bought it outright in cash, and they took it immediately to get it remapped, hooned it around London until early hours of the morning, and blew the engine up that night, only to try and blame us for selling them a car with a dud engine
That's the lifecycle of BMWs (and all 'performance' German cars): made by Middle Eastern and Eastern European people, end up with Middle Eastern and Eastern European people.

A friend of mine had one of these with a few modifications. It was north of 700bhp. Comfortably one of the fastest cars I've ever sat in.
My friend has the same gen m5 with an exhaust it makes around 650whp
@@sergiofacchinetti2954 how is the reliabilty?
@@e46b28 I have had my f10 m5 since for 8yrs, put 50k miles on it and it has never missed a beat. I put a stage 1 tune on it a few years ago, again no problem. Its like any car, you need to look after them, eg change the oil more frequently than the 2 yr service intervals etc. Its built like a tank and is ridiculously quick above 80mph. Below that it is traction limited. I've got other cars, but I doubt I'll ever sell this one. The annoying thing is I've still got a BMW warranty on it, never claimed, but know what will happen if I cancel it!
@@schmuck6Glad to read your experience with your M5. I have an M6 for seven years now with a stage two Dinan tune. Still covered under warranty but what shocks me is how people want to drive a car for 100 plus thousand miles with no maintenance or issues. Every car is mechanical. They are going to wear with miles so you have to maintain them. Even Teslas break and they don’t have engines.
@@troypatillo1688 agreed….great cars💪
As a F06 640D Gran Coupe owner, I fully agree with what you're saying here Jay! Great review. For those worried about running costs, definitely take a look at the diesel if outside of ULEZ... Cheaper tax, cheaper insurance, up to 50mpg on a run and can be remapped for some great gains (of course your mileage may vary). And if you want the kids in the back and a couple of cases in the boot, settle on the Gran Coupe... You will not get better value for money!
I have the 640d Gran coupe which is mapped and it's a beast!
It's a variation of the straight 6 N57 engine in case of diesel - notorious not only for burning one cop and many more F10/11 5series cars around those engines in police service - but also for timing chain issues, most of which seem to go away with good maintenance. The takeaway - do good maintenance. Don't listen to BMW's "30 000 km oil change" - do one every 6-10 000 kms - and should be good.
@@Tondaloona03”don’t buy a bmw”…why are you here then? Managed 7 years straight and a lot of well used miles without any hassle in mine. Now on 217k. Keep the maintenance (and preventative maintenance) up and fit decent quality parts. It will be fine. Run them on £50 a year budget and PCP “don’t think about it” mentality and it will punish you for being ignorant and arrogant. Basically if they are above your pay grade buy something else.
640d isn’t the most dynamic- owned a 2017 GC for 4 years. Great GT but rubbish around bends
@@georgedesouza8937 That could be tires, I have owned a 640d for 2 1/2 years and came with fairly new Dunlop tires I changed the rears to continental contact 7 and that cured the wheel slippage from the rear pulling away, New fronts due soon. very reliable car .
Those S63 engines do me a big scare
I love James' videos but this is a big concern, as well as with the E63 V8's that he praised a lot. The running costs can be a massive dealbreaker if you're not willing to spend big amounts to re-build / replace engines or engine-parts.
And for good reason, I should think...?
Same here. Also scared of the costs. These are more expensive to run than the V10 M5/6 as a lot more can go wrong with them.
Anything related to the n63 is problematic it seems.
No such thing as a bargain BMW 😅
It's not a bargain as long as you're the one who's got to maintain it.
Sounds like someone who's owned a BM trouble you.
bargain to buy, that's it. Once you have to service it, you're done. 'Bring Me Wallet' time...
I owned a 2013 bmw 640d m sport . I got it at 43,000 miles and 4 years old. In the time i owned it all the lights failed , head gasket , rear suspension, alternator, wiring loom, and many many things. I sold it 4 years and 21,000 miles later for £14,000 less.
@@xmaxbabilo Sometimes I wonder myself what kinda lemon bmw's you buy bacause I had 14 bmw's and none of em exept maybe 2 had some minor troubles and many had over 250000km, some even 350000km and mostly all of em were heavely tuned by me.
When the diesel version sounds a lot better you know BMW messed up. The M6's S63 sounds like a 4-pot except even the very small amount of character a 4-pot turbo engine might have it's been stifled out. Sounds like the worst kind of characterless fartbox.
I upgraded from a 2007 650i to a 2014 M6 (both manual) here in the U.S. It is an amazingly fast and practical grand-tourer with a stunning interior and great looks. The first owner spec:ed it with carbon ceramic brakes (not a Competition) so it stops and goes better than anything I have ever owned (including Porsches). The acceleration from 60 mph to autobahn speeds is inadvisable but intoxicating. Inexpensive Dinan tune to close to 700 HP. With fastidious maintenance, the car (and engine) have been completely trouble-free and I think the reputation comes from poorly maintained cars. ❤
Everything is reliable with fastidious maintenance. The mark of how reliable a car is how long it'll work properly if you don't do any maintenance. This is like people who say Alfas are reliable because they open the hood and wrench on them every month.
@@CockatooDude I can't say I agree. Some cars you maintain well will still fail due to poor design, engineering or quality (I have owned a few). My point is there are lots of reports of BMW cars being problematic over time, and those appear to be related to poor maintenance rather than inherent issues (unless you consider failure due to lack of maintenance an inherent issue). My experience with many, many BMWs is that they have served me problem free for 150K+ miles with regular maintenance (often more often than BMW recommendation). I have not done a scientific test on what happens if I neglect them for obvious reasons.
In South Africa where I'm from both the M5 and M6 of this generation are one of the best bargin performance cars ever. There many, many examples of the M3/M4 that way cost more than the M6. This is one car I wish and will own one day.
This car is better than M3/M4 ?
The 4 door - Gran Coupe - version is even nicer and better looking to my eyes, not to mention more practical.
extra weight less speed
Certainly more practical and I think may be the best looking 4 door car ever but I still think the coupe looks better
Thank you for telling more people about the 6 series, nobody knows about these cars, but maybe it should stay that way!
I bought one of the last F06 Gran Coupes brand new, pre-registered that the dealer couldn't get shot of in 2018: I paid just £38K for it. This for a car with a list price which was around £80k at the time with the options it had.
Best value car I ever purchased.
How has it been on reliability ?
@@crazymid11 absolutely no issues in over 3 years of ownership. Broke one suspension part on a pothole. Nothing else.
So pleased to hear what you have to say about the M6. I used to have an M6 GC, Which does benefit from the rear doors but I wouldn't say is massively roomier in the back. The b&o stereo is well worth the cost; one of the best car stereos I've ever heard.
I bought it as a replacement for a lotus Elise due to a new baby. And I'm happy to say I shared a lot the same views as you. Though I would add that the gearbox is absolutely useless in eco mode. It was extraordinarily fast without too much drama... the closest to time travel I've ever experienced.
I would also warn anyone in a similar situation that the running cost were ruinous! I have no idea how the owner is managing to get 28 MPG. I would average 22 on a run and 16 having fun. Consumables were very costly. Putting some PS4 Sports on it transformed the car. My gearbox developed an issue and BMW wanted 15k to fix. That said, I found a place in Wales that replaced it for £4.5. Overall including depreciation fuel and consumables. I spent 15-20K in 2 years. So let's hope James is pulling in some good tips at the restaurant.
Despite the cost, I had some great times with the car, but I couldn't say I ever really fell in love with it. This is probably more due to my personal preferences: little and light vs big and brutish.
When I started working fully remote I chopped it in for a Caterham and a cheap run around. Far happy with that.
I forgot to add: I think the standard 640 actually y makes a lot more sense. A lot cheaper to run, a lot more reliable, and more than fast enough for most people.
That M steering wheel is one of my all time favourites. FYI appreciate your wide ranging adjectives to describe how a car looks. Not all good looking cars are just pretty.
I LOVE this thing. specifically the coupe version. I don't see them that often at car shows but when I do I drool a little bit. It's understated yet elegant. It's also an insane performance car. Hopefully I'll get one some day.
This was and still is the most beautiful interior of any BMW.
As usual a superb review, Thank you for making pretty much the most "real" car content out there.
I’ve got a 640i coupe..... absolutely love it. Still got my 630i with n52 engine. Absolutely solid cars and I won’t be selling either of them. I’ll be adding a 840i coupe when they hit under 30k..... not long to go now!
I’ve been obsessed with the bangle 6 series and then the f13, all body styles since they came out. The 8 series is a worthy successor too in my opinion. I’ve always been more attracted to these super GTs than to similarly priced sports cars. Lovely video as always. I’ve paused several times just to admire it. I also didn’t understand the introduction of the gran coupes but they are gorgeous, the 4 and the 6, definitely not the 2 series gran coupe 😅
Fantastic car. That Top Gear episode with the Gran Coupe made me fall in love with the performance of these cars.
My boss in my first job had one of these, although it was the Gran Coupe. Probably one of the most gorgeous cars that I've seen (and heard!) in my life. I've never been a BMW guy but this thing really made me doubt
Regardless of the maintenance worries these are beautiful cars in the right colour
I haven't loved much from their design house lately, but the man's right, that's a damn good looking automobile. Always bringing the goods, Jay, we appreciate you.
Thankyou internet person!
What has concerned me for so long about these is the number that I see for sale saying "new engine fitted by BMW under warranty", what is going wrong with the engines?
The BMW extended warranty prices for these are about 3x more than an M4 from the same era.
A better question would be: "What isn't going wrong with the engines?"
Heat management isses leading to turbo and bearing failures in early engines. That's really the only thing that would lead to engine replacements.
100% agree as i noticed the same.
Fuel injectors stuck open may lead to terminal engine failure. One of the problems of this engine (has been solved by BMW).
i slowly find my self only interested in your content...... believe it or not it's so soothing and satisfying to watch .

it's a passion not just a car
I've got a 2017 640 and I can't fault it. Looks amazing and drives how you want it to. Would love to try the M6. Keeping with the 640 though as I squeak when I walk.😂
I think the 4 door version looks even better. We had one like this coupe and one in silver at the dealership I worked at.
James mentioned that you have to rev the engine out to get the best from it.
This was mapped in deliberately by BMW in order to reward the driver for revving the engine.
It was to try and give the engines power delivery a level of character in order to try and make it feel special like the V10 predicessor.
The shots of you bouncing around in the seat and just peering over the steering wheel reminds me of Penfold in danger mouse😊
I have been sweating over a 650Ci F13 , the car is 21.000€ here in Romania and I am a small town lawyer. I have inquired into running costs and it would be 1800 euro a year property tax, 1000 euro a year insurence (and I am the highest class least risk), about 1 to 1,5k euro per year in petrol ( I live in an ultracentral part of town and would put 6 to 10 k miles a year on the car), service costs and the odd repair would be a 500 to 1000 euro budget a year and other bits and bobs that would be a couple hundred euro. I find it a huge expense even though I own my house rent free, no outstanding finance on my name, no mortgage and earning about 40 to 50k euro each year. I wish I could be bolder and riskier like James … but at this time having 5000 euro on hold each year to run a dream car is not viable…. And the roads here are rubbish. I love these videos and to be honest they give me hope of letting up and taking on a dash of self indulgence. Good on you James and I hope you keep at it for as long as you can!
This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and one of the best looking BMWs ever. They nailed the design, and it looks spectacular in that San Marino Blue shade.
A wealthy guy from the village were I used to live got one of those and in the weeks after, parallel black stripes started to appear all over the village. Took me a couple years to figure out the connection.
i had the pleasure of owning an m5 f10 14' with the facelift for about 2 years, schmiedmann full system up to the downpipes, was and still is the most amazing car ive ever driven. such a unique feeling when that turbo just catches you.
its definitely a real drivers car no doubt about it.
I'm currently on my third BMW and the 6-series lives rent-free in my heart as it was my first car ever ('89 E24 635CSi). I then went on to an E38 which is arguably the best large sedan ever made, onto which I put enough miles in two years to go around the world three times. Now I have a sensible and economical FF30 328i which, once it serves out its remaining years as a livery service car, I intend to modify into a hooligan. That all being said, I've been looking in to which would be my next daily-driven BMW and have been really loving the aesthetics of the F13.
Great video!
I honestly love this generation M6..it’s absolutely gorgeous 🔥
I bought a gc last year and it has been one of the best cars I've owned. 🤩
Been waiting for a video like this for ages! M6 prices on autotrader have always seemed weirdly undervalued...
Thanks for the content as always James!
I’ve legitimately only seen one of these on the road, the video title is pretty accurate.
Also, are there any other exhaust manufacturers other than Akrapovič anymore?? Everybody has them it seems.
Owned 2 f13 M6gc with competition package, now a M8 gc competition. The M6s were special cars, and more than fast enough.
Maybe it's you, but it's probably just me - I felt some of your videos a while back were a bit shouty, and unsubscribed, but after the Carver video, I've now binge watched half a dozen recent ones and really appreciate your honesty and enthusiasm - enjoyed every one of them.
Commented on every one and subscribed. Hope you're doing well, thanks for the entertainment.
It'd rather have this generation of the BMW 6-Series than any maserati quattroporte or 4 series, very lucky owner gorgeous machine !
Great Video James
Canada is wonderfully priced as well....My 2004 645Ci conv was $12,000cdn and it has a SMG which I love....Best car I have ever had,,,,
Still hunting for a used M6 with newly replaced CC breaks. Hell finding any M model BMW around 50k miles with new breaks is a challenge.
"The ultimate driving machine."
Until the warranty runs out!!!
James forgot to emphasize how violent these cars are... They really pull hard once you step on them. You'd easily land in your neighbours sitting room if you not well experienced.
Its actually a great car, can do one lap around a track as fast as an M2/3/4 and is so much better on the road to live with everyday while having the 560/575/600hp V8 with the dual clutch and hydraulic steering. Absolutely brilliant.
Regarding BMW prices, I feel like I often see a 1-series or a 3-series for the same if not more than a 5 or a 6, too. They really do stay at about the same price point. I feel like it's because of what these cars offer. Each of them are some of the best in their respective category.
I find your points about 6 series ownerships to perfectly match what I found here in Canada. 6s are unbeatable value for money, yet onlookers (mostly old men) notice and compliment the car. And insurance is hilariously cheap in relation to other cars my friends own (I too am a younger guy). The sound system, styling, features, build quality, and driving dynamics are all great. Upkeep is where you pay it back it seems, so in a way if nothing breaks, you save money and drive a sweet car (you win), if it does break, you pay what everyone else pays for a nice car... which is still not a bad proposition
I’m know it sips from the black pump. But I have a 640 Grand Coup, all the car you’ll ever need and it looks stunning in the car park or on the drive. Thinking that the M6CG is the next purchase especially as they are actually cheap to get into than the M6 coup
From Hungary here you can’t find nice ones from 2013 up under 40k euros most I see for sale are above 50k after 2014
Hands down my favourite front end on any BMW. Masterpiece. Im dying for the G87 M2 , but that is like Picasso beside this Mona Lisa
One of the most beautiful cars ever made, great interior too. The engine had some issues though. Inspired the 4 series.
I had two M6 Gran Coupes from new, a pre LCI 2014 car in Space grey, fantastic, so a year later when the LCI comp pack came out with 600bhp I got one of those in Singapore grey, Sakhir orange interior, speced it up with most of the tech you could option, such a wonderful car, daily, sports, family, surprisingly cheap to run, reliable, handled incredibly well for it's size. Sadly it was stolen at 3.5 years old, never to be seen again, miss the beast, if you are thinking of getting one they really are a brilliant platform, very well made. Later LCI M's had full leather to the dash and the later full active LED headlights.
I had the grand coupe version of this car like this.... its absolutely fantastic. It does it all. Perfect for the motorway
I have an E63 650i and I have recently realised that when it comes to replacing it, I’m in a quandary because I like the lack of flash while still being rapid and relatively inexpensive to run, and the F-Gen 6-Series is difficult to ignore, because it is more of the same; good looking, has understated class but is still rapid.
My 650i f06 is one of the best purchases I ever made.
@@shanejones-lv4yl They are big diffrences between 650I sport and M6 ?
@@henzo7087 not drastic. I raced one the other day, you won’t lose by more than a car length to top speed.
@@henzo7087 I know for the E60-Gen 6-Series the 650i is the "80% the performance with 80% less cost" of an M6, because you don't have M-Division running costs, I imagine the F-Gen 6's are much the same.
Wow, the sales difference and price difference is crazy. In the US it maters what model it is and trim. Though i will say E63 6 series have dropped like crazy in price. So have the used F12 w around 80k+ miles on them. I will say the price killing point on the bmw is related to what people repair costs are. Inown both and absolutely love them both!
The M6 is a motorway/Highway monster. It opens up at 100mph+ and you then realize how fast and composed it is. Driving 40mph through narrow, winding single lane English village roads doesn't do it justice for proper review.
The convertible version of the M6 was and still is a stunning looking car
Watching from Germany. E63 m6 owner

The M4 is a great performance bargain at the moment. Seen most of them around the same price as a decent E92 M3 or C63 of that time. Can't go wrong with them, and it's much lighter too.
Love my 640d! And coming from a 630i... I'd love maybe an M6 next. I think Jay's spot on when it comes to the 4 series killing it. I love the 4 series BTW, and think they are better in some ways. But I also think the market has just moved on from big 2 door coupes, long ago. Someone in the comments asked if these are considered an old mans car? Yea I think they kinda are (the Jag XKR even more so), thats no bad thing though. They just aren't fashionable, anymore. I often photograph young folks cars, and my big 6ix carries all my photography gear. The big 6ix doesn't get so much as get a 2nd glance from the younger crowd.

Bought mine for cheap w/low mileage, in America (Nevada). Best car over all I've every owned! I'm 61, just saying!
as a S63B44 engine car owner I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that you can spent the earth and the moon on an exhaust or remove it completely, and it WILL NOT sound any better, just get louder. The exhaust note is already compromised pre-turbos.
THE ONLY way to make it sound better (and you can therefore safe boatloads of money) is to get someone to cut up your exhaust manifold and separate the two cylinder banks (like MB, VAG and the N63 does).
You might lose some spool, but I sincerely doubt you will feel it because the sound will be so much better (hopefully)
I am in the process of doing this mod on my car, bought a second hand manifold and it will be cut up and re-welded
It will drink a lot of petrol.
And many are saying it could be quite expensive to run and maintain.
A 4.4 litre V8 with turbo(s).
I had a 2007 M6, and vowed to keep it alive come hell or high water. Replaced the Smg, both Vanos, and had new rod bearings finally en route after a six month wait for them to become available..two days before they arrived...spun a bearing. I owned the car 18 months, of that, it was in the shop 12. Bought it for 15g, spent nearly 30g trying to eliminate the big 3 Catastrophic failure points but, just missed the mark.
Crazy thing is, that car was special enough to make me consider trying again. There is nothing I have ever owned that sounded and moved the way that V10 did. Remarkable, a bit over engineered..and the tolerances were just a little bit of a known issue that should have had a factory solution..but anyhow Im sad its gone, my mechanic feels differently
I wonder who or which company replaced your rod bearings which spun when they were brand new?
Last year I had a BMW E32 7 series, it came with recites from a previous owner that had it for 10-15 years I think it was, had a total of high over 15.000 euros, it generation wise is the same as the E34 and E30. Where the value now is highest for the E30, then E34 and E32 being worth the least, by far. I got it for around 2000 euros. It had double glazing windows and a very healthy and well maintained M30 engine. I did however sell it again, as it caused it more electrical issues in a week, than my even older E34 had over 2 years. The E34 being one, a blinker light wire and a week of the E32 was 5+, and it never got perfect. Why I think most people really like the idea of a classic 7 series, but they really won't enjoy owning it as much, why they also end up being so cheap, compared to the cheaper models in the lineup. Also, chassie parts can be a pain, when you have the rare case of not being the same as on the E34.
Massive car with only 2 doors is a tough sell on UK roads.
I think many would take the smaller engine and just get an M4, which looks better and has a manual option.
I think M6 might look better. Certainly the interior is much nicer, the seating position alone is a big selling point, at least to me.
Very good car James with very nice SILVER wheels!!
Yes, old (not classic) luxury cars are a surprising cost. I recently found in the US that 2003-2009 Jag XJ (X240, X356, X358) sedans, even excellent high-powered fanciest long-chassis models can be US$4000, half the price of 6-year-old Corollas. While the Jag reliability was very low compared to other brands, it was still as high as say Toyota in 1990, which was "reliable enough." I find this generation actually pretty handsome, and it is 100s of kg lighter than comperable BMW/MB/Audi due to all-aluminum body, chassis, and engine. That makes even the V6 just about acceptable acceleration. I'm also looking at my third E39 M5 (expensive but would probably hold value), and C215 (1999-2006) Merc CL which again I personally really liked the exterior AND interior of.
As per some other commenters, M6 Gran Coupe edges the traditional coupe for me. Having had one for about 7 months now I believe it sacrifices a very small amount of straight line speed and dynamics for increased practicality and a more comfortable ride. Mines got the competition pack and I’d still describe it as pretty easy to live with in comfort mode.
James I can appreciate your videos. But calling the M6 a "bargain" is far from the truth. This car is NOT CHEAP BY ACCIDENT.
Having owned the M5 of this generation, N63/S63 were horribly designed and when the hot turbos sitting inside the V of the engine do you in. You will be out thousands of dollars. When that was repaired, the heat from the engine started degrading the plastic for a car with less than 120K miles. I don't know why the Germans think this is good for their reputation to have their car owners stranded on the side of the road, desperately calling for a tow truck.
BMW really put a bad taste mouth by designing critical engine components as maintenance items.
BMW should have stuck to:
Odd numbers for saloons, estates & SUVs.
Even numbers for 2 door coupes & convertibles.
Probably should use the old cc capacity descriptions correctly as well.
Agreed
The F-series BMW prices are going down, I paid 35,000 USD for my 60k miles M4 and its one owner no accidents maintained to perfection. The bang for the buck is unreal.
Quite often "bargain" cars are bargain, because they have quality issues or are simply so expensive to maintain, people who can't afford them new, might struggle financially trying to keep them running. There are so many fantastic cars I would drive much rather than the dull, but fairly reliable and low cost thing I have, if this was not the case.
You really gotta try the 630d or even better the 640d. The torque of those engines is the best match for these big mile munching coupes and you gain a lot of range thanks to their efficiency.
I agree, I have a F13 640d and it really is a brilliant car. I'd even lend it to James if he wanted. Although yes multi storey car parks are not these cars best friends lol
But it’s a diesel…
@@jamesstanley7263 Big 3L diesels are great. BMW 6Cycl are silky smooth, powerful & full of grunt and don't sound like a a bag of hammers
@@ThexMJT but I still have to stand a pump and put tractor fluid in my car. Diesel is for people that can’t afford petrol. Or farmers
@@jamesstanley7263 don't be that guy. Just because diesel isn't for you doesn't mean you should gatekeep those who do.
It's bloody awesome until it goes bang.
The main downside to BMW's is that they have been owned by BMW drivers
A got the M6 Comp with 600 bhp. They're seriously quick and much cheaper than the equivalent Mercedes
I have a late f82 cp, and thinking of changing to a g82? Do you think that's a good idea or should I consider this? I am reconsidering due to running costs and always go to bmw for service needs . Great review btw.
Literally my favorite car of all cars, more so the grandcoup my friend uncle had one. I hope there's some good condition low mileage ones left when i get out the airforce in 5 years 🥺
He must get some stunning tips from his patrons😮
I own a mapped 640d Gran coupe. In my opinion, this is the best of both worlds.
Ever since the BMW of the V10 under the hood, they've been riddled with problems. Ik it's not BMW, but I'd get a Panamera Turbo S or a Cadillac CTS-V V2.
Would really love to hear James' opinion on the normal 6 or M6 Gran Coupe...
I don't think their engines work long enough to drive one over to him.
M6 massive looker. And a grower. And a Brute. As said. A lot right on the styling front. They do very well on trade site auctions at wholesale. Maybe it’s traders wanting a smoker
Compared to the Chris Bangle 6-series, this M6 is a pure beauty. But, I would say it's "just" very nice, good looking, blend of class et sport. And, indeed, this is a very good car to drive. 8/10
Thx for all the info I could not even remember (if I ever knew all the details, ahem)
I don't like the look of the previous gen 6-series (LOOOVE the first gen, but that goes without saying i hope), but this one is gorgeous. A true object of desire, imho. ..sadly it sounds like a modern BMW, which is the sound of sadness, disappointment and likely depression...or farts, in the M2. ..but if you have a strong psyche, and aren't partial to follow the call to depression from that engine note, i do have to say that around 20K is astonishing value for money. You look a million dollars showing up in that car. Just make sure that carlovers don't hear it. ...and hope and pray that it doesn't go "BMW" on you while you own it.
This is not the 2nd gen of six series, but the third. And technically they still make the 6 series, but it's no longer a big long 2 door coupe, but a 5 door ghastly fastback.

Somehow it's working out cheaper for me to get a BMW M6 for insurance than to renew the insurance on my 2019 330i... I'm not complaining 😂 it's £100 cheaper a month, that's why I'm here, very close to buying an M6 indeed. Thanks for the video.
as always things are more expensive in Australia, cheaper examples ~£30k average example of an M6 ~£40-50k great example £70+k maybe its still a bargain at those prices, but it'd be a struggle finding an m6 here in aus for £20k (probably because of luxury car tax lol)
One of the most beautiful beemers. Would love to have this over a 5 series diesel but its just so fricking more expensive than his 5 series F10 brother.
I have an M6 GC. Upgraded from an E60 M5 which I owned for eight years. It's a beautiful car. I agree on the ride quality - it's a bit too firm for. But otherwise, build quality, performance and looks, especially on the LCI model, are top notch. Sound is not so great.... after coming from a V10.
How's the reliability?
The M5 was great for eight years. Very little went wrong. I did the rod bearings of course. M6...had a comfort access door handle needing to be replaced and the fuel filler cap electric doodah go wrong. Other than that.... All good so far 😊
@@muddy2k13 Wow, M5 Restorations showed us that the V10 can be good if you take care of it. I think V8 should be fine if you do the same.
Here in Canada BMWs are priced as follows from cheapest to most expensive, 2. 3, 4, 5, 6 then 7 series. I have an M2 on order which is priced similar to an RS3, The RS3 is no longer sold in Canada so I'll be having my first Bimmer. Cheers.
F13 M6 is my favourite generation of the M6. Simply by the looks alone. It is beautiful. And the F07 GranCoupe... oooooh that's... special. I know everyone would say 'Just get the M5' but the M5 is not sexy. It's purposeful. I want me grand tourers to be beautiful.
Weirdly I do think the S63 V8 sounds like Subaru boxer 4. Sometimes it's good sometimes it's just funny.
Here’s the rule with used BMWs - only buy one with a straight 6 engine. These V8s are so problematic and difficult to service, it’s just not worth the risk.
What goes wrong with the engines? Most comments mention engine problems but no specifics.
The engine goes bye bye when you least expect it 👋
Valve stem seals, normal bmw leaks, carbon build up, excessive oil consumption, spark plugs and ignition coils, vanos solenoids, rod bearings
Bending rods and injector failure to add to that list.
@@alexpetree2038 is it possible to tune and rebuild this engine with better quality and reliable aftermarket components? If the engine has already broken down . I thought about buying one some time ago
That is quite the list.
Great video, thanks for shedding light on this performance bargain.
The prices you are talking about blow my mind. It's literally double the price here in Sweden.
I’ve owned all 3 variants of this car and I can say for sure the m6 is way more reliable then it gets credit for.
The GC version of this car is gorgeous & in my opinion better than the coupe
