REM.....how awesome! This is only my 3rd flowering season for my Avocado journey. I'm way up north in El Dorado Hills. This spring must have had all the right temps, wind and pollinators. I have one tree in ground with tons of small fruitlets (Mexicola Grande -14-18 feet which was already planted when we moved in...late 2021) and 7 other common good varieties for up here in 24 inch boxes and 15 Gallon pots. 6 of 8 varieties have fruits so far. I have a Gem that probably won't get fruit, it is too small (only 2.5 feet) but healthy. And I have a Reed that is 3.5 feet but is just now opening flowers. Also probably too young. This is an exciting spring for sure...tons of bees and other native insects and great temps. I enjoy your video's and they are very informative! All the best and stay hydrated! I'm enjoying a Sierra Nevada Juicy Little Thing IPA! Chris

Awesome...Hazy Little Thing is always in the Frig. I'm just a guy on a journey just like you, it is fun, we are both going to have a lot of avocados in the future. Congrats on your 7, keep me updated! Thanks for watching!

@@AvocadoTalk REM....Quick update.....looks like the Gem has 2 fruits now. And now the Reed has two as well that I can see and maybe a few more coming as bunch of it's flowers have that post pollinated look (brown tip). It seems that is always the case that we lose bunch of fruits after the initial set of BB size fruits....fingers crossed we can have a couple or a bunch from each tree down the road. This is surely my best result in the last 3 years at this point. I'll let you know what things look like around mid summer.

@@AvocadoTalk Hi REM, that reed just started to flower, hopefully it fruits this year. Your avocado trees are looking great. I have not tried most of the ones you mentioned. Wishing you a bountiful 2024!

@@johnnysworld-backyardorchard First time for me too on some of these varieties...can't wait. Hopefully it officially sets and holds until it ripens...

Congrats... so glad you didn't rip out the Fuerte. My dad had a huge Fuerte tree that gave some great tasting avocados. Sadly, he cut the 40+ year old tree down. The huge roots where destroying the concrete around his patio.

It is a very weak fruit set but I am just happy that I got some. I'm not sure if it's going to hold but will continue to monitor. Keep our fingers crossed.

@@AvocadoTalk I recently received the SC Gold that I ordered, but it was quite spindly looking, and quite thin. I wasn't sure it was going to survive, but with a lot of TLC, it seems to be coming around. It's so small though, and will take a couple of years to catch up to a typical 5 gal avo tree. Fingers crossed!!

@@neurocognitive Yeah Epicenter Trees I find usually aren't the biggest but with some TLC it will make it. Good luck, you can always get some scion wood from me if needed

Hello all. Best wishes I’m happy too as if I had a son born, my avocado fruiting first time same size yet as yours but I don’t know which variety is my avocado tree. How can I share my tree pics so someone can tell me what my variety of my avocado. As I learned from your video, it might be Stewart ….

    REM,
Nice plants! I’m a new b to avocado growing. This is my first year of trying to grow avocados. I have seven grafted varieties that I’m growing and wanted to know what type of fertilizer do you use, cycle or how often you use and window the flowers start to bloom? I’m located in Hawaii. Appreciate it! Thanks

      Excellent! Fun journey.
Lately I have been using a organic fertilizer made by a company called TRUE.ag. I buy a bag of cow or chicken manure, mix in the TRUE and throw it out. When you first start, they say you can do a light fertilizing monthly then second year bi-monthly, than 4 times a year. I think just 3 times a year is OK. Sorry early spring, than summer and fall. This year I didn't fertilize at all and things are OK, it would probably do better if I used some. With that said, you don't have to use organic, my local big box store carries a citrus and avocado fertilizer that has worked just fine for me. Good luck, I'll headed to Maui soon!

Can you give us an update on your 7 new varieties fruit set ? Been a month. Did all of 7 varieties hold the fruits ? or did they dropped ? I have bacon, Queen, Hellen, Gem, Don Gillogly, Edranol, Choquette, Reed, Lamb Hass. Most of the varieties that I mention here still hold the fruits. I am in Zone 8b/9, elevation 2000. West of Paso Robles Ca. Most of my trees is 2-3 years old. I have lots of other varieties of avocados that it is not mention on the list. Most of the fruits had dropped just only few still hanging on the trees. I guess my tree is still young. It will be interesting to see how many varieties will hold fruits to maturity. Time will tell in my zone.
