    REM....weighing back in.....I have had less fortunate experience than you in the last 6 or so weeks. Recapping, I have one nice size Mexicola Grande in the ground and 7 other Avocado small trees in either 24 inch boxes or 15 gallon buckets. The Mexicola had hundreds of fruitlets on it after flowering but now I can only see 3 fruits. Maybe there is a couple more but that is what happened last year similarly. All the smaller container tree's produced a small number of fruits but they mostly dropped the fruits. The best variety for me at this point is the Lamb......it hast 22 nice fruits and it's only a 3.5 foot tree but I think it's a year older than the other container trees. I can't be sure but it looks like a more dwarf tree but also an older tree in a 15 gallon container. I lost lots of fruit as well. The good news is that i did not get any fruit last year except 3 pieces on the Mexicola Grande so I'm moving in the right direction although slowly! Cheers......Chris

      Other people are having the same experience this year, it's just weird. Looking at all my trees with fruit so far, it's not a bad year and the fruit set is decent and I can't get too greedy. Hang in there, you will get there. Thanks for watching!

    Seems like my fruit set is increasing on my 3 year old trees. I’m really impressed with the GEM on G6 from Maddock. Over 8 feet tall with a 7 foot spread. Just under 3 dozen from last season. Picking the last one this weekend. Carmen had 2 flushes of flowers and fruit set. Reed is doing excellent with fruits set. The heat is coming. We’ll see what happens. Thanks for your update.

    I tried the 1/3 honey to 2/3 water trick that Gary Recommended and this year. Highest number of set fruit on my 9 year avocado. Lucky our weather isn't too bad this year in SGV. No drop has happened since about May, keeping the tree watered lighty and did not fertilize. Left the leave drop under the tree when it was flowering. Love seeing ur beautiful trees 😊

    Hey REM - All of my trees flowered, but no fruit. They are just too young at this stage, but looking healthy. At this point my goal is to protect them from the direct sunlight and keep them watered - especially when the temps get high. The SC Gold finally perked up and looks like it will make it. Also, the JB I got from Ellen survived and is starting to thrive. I noticed that the trees with darker leaves seem to handle the sun/heat better than the trees with lighter colored leaves. Thanks for the update.

      I find that epicenter trees take a little more time but they typically do give, patience. Since they perked up, you should be good to go

    Want to start with saying love your videos!
    Just an observation, in the video notice that there is not much protection on the ground around the trees, I just keep my yard looking clean but my avocado three will not hold fruit.
    Last year in march, change how I maintain my avocado trees, started to keep large amount of mulch around the tree, spraying foliage with; Mg, Mn, Cn, Zc, Cu, B, Ni, Fe. Adding fertilizer large % of phosphate. The foliage is spray every two weeks and the ground receives fertilizer every 3 months.
    The Carmen Hass and Gem avocado is loaded with fruit.
    Carmen started to flower on November 2023 and stop flowering two weeks ago. The Gem had so much fruit like a cherry three, large amount of fruit fall off, but looks like the small three of 3.5’ will hold large amount of fruit.
    Hope this information helps you.
    Thank you for sharing videos of your trees!

    • @AvocadoTalk
      @AvocadoTalk  19 днів тому +2

      Thanks for the feedback, I used to be religious with a spreadsheet on fertilizing, always had a lot of mulch but lately I've taken the lazy man approach. I have gotten a lot of fruit but I think I might have gone too far and need to bring it back. With everything, plan and execute.
      One thing I've been fighting and may never resolve is the eucalyptus, I should cut them down if I really want a lot of fruit on the eucalyptus side but it is what it is. This hobby is a lot of fun and I enjoy sharing all of it, the good and bad, it's good to be transparent. Thanks for watching!

    Really enjoy your channel thank you! Perhaps the amount of rain and wind during flowering period contributed to poor pollenization , I live here in Vista which is considered the avocado belt of the US and did not see many bees during this period of flowering. Had lots of flowers and small pebble sized fruitlets which 90% dropped. Also the marine layer and wet mornings for over two months was not so favorable we did not get a real spring as such. Plumerias also are just barely starting to develop inflows and leaves in the last two weeks. Interesting!

    • @AvocadoTalk
      @AvocadoTalk  18 днів тому

      Yes it was really just a weird year, I also had weeks where we had cool marine layer haze that didn't burn off till later. I was nice to be able to work in the back yard in the AM. There are a lot of variables but I really starting to think that rootstock has more of an effect on fruit set and holding characteristics that previously thought. Example, GEM from Brokaw which is younger and smaller has more fruit than my older GEM from the old La Verne. Just odd. Vista is such a cool area, I actually had a guy get a couple of avocados from me that lived in Vista.

    Apply gibberellic acid to reduce small fruit shedding or foliar application of fertilizer containing silicon in the form of orthosilicic acid.They both have different working mechanisms, but in general terms they are about managing stress, especially heat stress.

    • @AvocadoTalk
      @AvocadoTalk  19 днів тому

      I've looked into this in the past but never tried it. Have you tried it and have you seen a difference?

    • @heyye007
      @heyye007 19 днів тому +1

      @@AvocadoTalk The cause of these drops is actually more than one. Competition between young fruit and vegetative growth, sensitivity to temperature extremes; and water deficit stress.I used silicon in avocado in a greenhouse environment and I found it very successful and the dropping was almost non-existent, despite the extremely hot and very variable air temperature and humidity of the greenhouse. Gibberellic acid, on the other hand, I used it in fruit dropping in cherries and it does such a good job that it is difficult when you try to tear the fruit stems with your hand.

    Hey buddy, I'm working away from home but I'll check my trees tomorrow evening and will get back to you. Last I check... 1 week ago, my Brokow gem. Had a lot of fruit still holding. The gem I grafted onto a Fuerte rootstock had a lot but dropped almost all. Had 9 holding on.
    The Maluma I picked up from you had a lot still holding on. Reed from Brokow had about 15. Not sure how many will make it. Don Gillogly had some but not many. Don't expect any to make it. Kona Sharwil dropped all from a young tree. Putting it's energy into growing because it looks great.
    My other Kona also from Brokow very small tree that I thought was about dead... came back and is holding on to some fruit. I hope they hold. A third Kona purchased from a guy claiming it was from Brokow... dropped all but 3 or so. I'll give you a better update soon. Keep up the great videos.

      Good morning, getting back to you with an update from this morning.
      My Gem avocado from Brokow is still holding on to lots of fruit as well as the Maluma. I counted about 20 fruit on the Maluma. The Gem to many to count. Easily over 40. One Sharwil also holding on to a few. Other trees Reed, Don Gillogly, 2 other Sharwils, Gem on Fuerte rootstock, multi graft tree on Carmen rootstock ( mexicola, Halumalu, Reed, a unknown green variety, and Sharwil) all fruit dropped .
      We are starting a 4 day heat wave today. 96, 95, 92, 89. We shall see how everything holds up. Going to water 10 min twice per day on my micro sprinklers
