      I thought the reeds were going to be like mush, rubbery and flavorless. I finally got flowers on my Pinkerton this year so I'm excited to finally get some fruit. I know the Pinkerton is very productive for you.

    Thanks for the video. I wonder if a comparative taste /quality testing can be done between a Lamb Hass and a Maluma. I’d be interested in seeing that. Also, what will be the natural unpruned shape eventually of the Maluma? More narrow than wide or vice-versa? I’d be interested in buying some scions when available.

    • @AvocadoTalk
      @AvocadoTalk  3 місяці тому +1

      So far the lamb hass is a lot more floppy from what I'm seeing. Definitely do a video showcasing the growth habit and what the tree will end up looking like. I can say that the maluma tastes slightly better than the lamb. Thanks for watching Neal!

  • @Sam-mc2dk

    Glad to see your Reed was ready and you could enjoy it. The Maluma looks like a good avocado, how would you compare it to a Hass? It sure looks like a Hass. I was looking at my Reed trees the other day and I noticed that some of their stems are yellow. I am wondering if are ready earlier this year because of all the rain we have had? I am thinking that might be the case. I had my biggest crop of avocados this year. My GEM trees produced very well. I have been eating GEMs for about a month now and they are really good. I think the next variety I have that will be ready soon are the Reed. I have three Reeds and they each have close to dozen fruit on each tree. I have not had to buy avocados for a while and with my Reeds ready soon I don't think I will need to buy avos soon.

    • @AvocadoTalk
      @AvocadoTalk  3 місяці тому

      Year round avocados. I think the Hass taste a little better than Maluma. I've been enjoying Hass, Carmen, Gem, Wurtz, a dropped Lamb and now Reeds. Esther and Gwen next. We'll see how long I can keep going without buying avocados, hoping my Hass and Lamb hold a long time.

    • @Sam-mc2dk

    Is the maluma a dence fast grower ? I want something small dence fruit crop on inside of tree for less sunburn fruit but at same time a fast grower.

    • @AvocadoTalk
      @AvocadoTalk  3 місяці тому

      It probably is slower and more dense so should keep fruit shaded. Tree will be smaller because it's a slower growth but considering it already fruited for me, it should be a good producer. There are so many good varieties out there...

    • @AvocadoTalk

    • @handsomejohnjohn
      @handsomejohnjohn 2 місяці тому +1

      @@AvocadoTalk I don't think it is breaking any rules. Maluma is not patented or patent is expired. It is growing around world, even Brokaw Nursery sells it but sold out.

    • @AvocadoTalk
      @AvocadoTalk  3 місяці тому

      Congrats on the puppies 😁😁. So what's crazy is the half that I cut from this morning that I left on the counter has not oxidized as of right now. Usually they start turning brown. So this variety is starting to become more impressive. Scions should become more readily available in the future I think.

    • @RareAvoTrees
      @RareAvoTrees 3 місяці тому

      @@AvocadoTalk that's great,,, is it the sir prize that also doesn't oxidize fast, the internet says Maluma can take cold pretty well but Dan the field rep at Brokaw said it's not so I don't really know for sure. Hopefully Maluma can take at least 29 if tented on a cold night.

    • @AvocadoTalk
