I'm from Europe I'm planning to relocate to East Africa I have visited Kenya , Tanzania and Uganda, my husband and I decided that we would like to settle in Nairobi, so next year we are planning to move to Nairobi., but our final destination will be either Nanyuki or Nakuru.
Lived in Baltimore for over 20 years. Seeing and hearing you guys talk takes me right back to America. Travel to Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret to get the real feel of Kenya.
This was the reason I went to both countries to compare and see what was best for me. I went to Nairobi and zanzibar. I would love to live in Zanzibar but my husband would prefer Nairobi. I really loved Nairobi but it was a bit expensive where we were. I can tell we could afford to live there but you will have to be on your game. In Zanzibar I could relax more and we did so much more there.
You can easily live even on less than $1500 per person in Nairobi if you know how to do it. For example instead of getting a furnished apartment that goes for $1000 like most expats like to do, you can get an unfurnished apartment of the same standard for $500 and buy the furniture yourself

I think the best place to compare Dar with in Kenya is the coast. Mombasa has similar swahili foods interms if quantity and flavour, they have lots of street foods too. Nairobi is more business oriented and fast paced, no wonder it feels more westernized.
Mombasa also has better Italian food than Nairobi and lots of traditional street food. Plus Nairobi has a lot of ethnic food from different cultures like Luo or Kikuyu- and also Ethiopian and Nigerian. You definitely need to get a local guide.
Nairobi has a similar history with New York City, USA. Both are melting pots of immigrants & hence the cosmopolitan diversified cultures. Nairobi tends to be more expensive because it has to import & meet locally the needs of all races...in Foods, Fashion, Entertainment, Hospitality, Medical..etc. The expatriate population in Kenya is also huge.

Nairobi has the best Roads in East Africa Region. I was there in 2018 and was very surprised how the city is developed. I’m sure now in 2023 Nairobi has made a lot of developments.
You cannot Compare that village of Mombasa with Dar Es Salaam City. Unless you never travelled and you dont even know Dr es Salaam other that watching on youtube..
@@tanzanite9944 I have lived in dar for ten years I have many friends in Dar so I know what am talking about.Dar is closely compared to Mombasa than Nairobi it is a travesty to even think Dar can be Nairobi because Tanzania has a long way to go .
What part of town are you all in? Nairobi is big and varied. Local foods are available in a number of places. Nairobi is definitely more expensive, especially housing; but there are so many options. Didn’t mention the broader use of English in Nairobi.
Good insights about Dar and Nbo 👌 For starters, Nbo is "The Green City in the Sun" and it lives to its moniker. Greenery and open spaces is a hallmark. Nairobi's healthy moderate weather is a great relief and suits everyone's preferences. Currently it's the long rainy season till mid May, thereafter Kenyan"winter" sets in June to August...which is pretty cold for the standard tropical climate. All in all, as we say here, breakfast in Nairobi, dinner in New York/London or breakfast in Dubai, lunch in Nairobi... that's how it's easily accessible and with easy finds of anything conceivable under the sun. Enjoy NBO ❤
Both countries have their own unique charm. As for food you have to have a guide who can take you "off the beaten track" to experience local food. There are magnificent scenery in both countries. You need to visit Zanzibar, off the Tanzanian coast, visit Malindi,, Lamu, the Great Rift Valley, Kenya....experience some traditional/history culture..

In terms of transport network, you should have mentioned that BRT system started operating in Dar almost 8 years ago. Nairobi has eaten all the money meant for finishing the project.
@@eddie8006 Thanks for reminding me that Google is free. Go to Dar and understand what I'm talking about before you hammer me again. The lane preserved for BRT is exclusively for these buses in a similar manner that they operate in S. Korea et al. In fact, if you go to Dar, you find the small barriers that separated the BRT lane from the rest of the lanes. These buses have specific time schedules that are almost ideal because traffic congestion never affects them.
Hello brother and hello sister. I hope your stay is okay and enjoyable. I do interviews and I do videos about Black Americans coming to Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya , Gambia. I am currently in Kenya at the moment. Would you mind to have an interview sometime in this month.
It's not fair to compare the two. One is coastal, hot and slow paced the other is inland, cool and fast paced. They r both special in their own lil ways.
I think next time compare cities which are in the the same geographical position e.g Nairobi and Kigali or for the coastal like Dar and Mombasa. But overall I liked your content🙌🏿💯 Keep up with the efforts👏🏾👍🏾
Nairobi has everything, it's the only city in the world that has game park within. You can see giraffes, Buffaloes and lions while in your hotel rooms. If you have binoculars ie. 🤞
9:00 ok the weather comparison is a bit unfair to Tz as Nairobi is elevated (5500') whilst Dar is basically sea level (38'). You can compare Dar weather with Mombasa, Malindi, Diani etc
I feel like you should have been to multiple food spots in Dar es Salaam to experience the International feel, because there are so many and are rated way better than Capetown Fish Market...😊

Wow! Nice comparison of Dar & Nairobi. However, in terms of the climatic conditions, Nairobi is about 1500 metres above sea level, and obviously cooler than Dar.

Africa is unique on its own stop setting up Africans against each other, our strengths are different, as a Pan-Africanist I retaliate that Africa is one, and we are United in our diversity and not divided by our differences
First of all, this is a comparison of two cities not the people and it is for people who are looking to move to African countries they have never been to. Thanks for watching.
All I'll say is don't hold your breath when it comes to local cuisine 😅 Most black foreigners find it quite bland as we don't use a lot of spices. The spicy foods tend to be of Indian/ Arab origin, but then again, I imagine that's the case in TZ, too.
You should visit the Kenyan coast for a "fairer comparison", I daresay KE would still take the lead over Dar, not that it's a competition or anything, just saying. Prices in Kenya will remain high however, the Kenyan coast towns are a lot less expensive than Nairobi. I loved this video, great content guys.
😂😂 "I wonder what do we eat"..true. I was looking for this comment 😅 The funniest part is we Kenyans are oblivious as to how ordinary our 'cuisine' is. And then the suggestions being given are mostly food of Indian origin. Ati chevda 😅
Hi, this is the first time I'm watching your content and I'm finding it very interesting. As for the topic for the video, one thing I'd love to point out is that Nairobi is a UN city, so that means it is home to a lot of foreign diplomats from more countries than Dar. Also Nairobi is home to regional HQ or HQ of many multinationals. So these two factors exposes Nairobi to more global influences compared to Dar. Also, these two factors makes the city more expensive than Dar. I just thought I'd point that out. Otherwise enjoy your stay in Kenya.

I was there in 2018 and was very surprised how the city is developed.
I’m sure now in 2023 Nairobi has made a lot of developments.
Aty best roads in EA😂😂😂
Whew was there in 2021 and it was nothing but construction happening
I am in Nairobi, 2023, road constructions is history now. Magnificent roads we have here, but still, rush hour traffic is a menace
Thats was the work of Uhuru kenyatta

We would love to visit!
@@FREEDOMCHASERSLIFE it is an hour flight or less than 2 depending on which part of Mombasa you are going to. There is Nyali, Diani, Lamu etc.

Kenya does seem like a great country! It is beautiful! I really want to visit cause there is so much that I love about it.
You should and thanks for watching!
Welcome we love visitors in Kenya
when you visit kenya holla me...i will take you around
You all in Nairobi now? Karibu fam. The black Expat group here is a resource. Hope to connect with you all. Grace & peace.
What part of town are you all in? Nairobi is big and varied. Local foods are available in a number of places. Nairobi is definitely more expensive, especially housing; but there are so many options. Didn’t mention the broader use of English in Nairobi.
You are such an enjoyable family to watch!
Thank you so much
Good insights about Dar and Nbo 👌
For starters, Nbo is "The Green City in the Sun" and it lives to its moniker.
Enjoy NBO ❤
Thanks for educating us on Nairobi!
Thanks for the recommendation!
@@FREEDOMCHASERSLIFE my pleasure

If you have money in Nairobi you can eat the best food ever. I grew up in Nairobi and will always say hands down it’s an amazing place to live in
I am from Dar salaam lakini Napenda Nairobi Sana❤
Visit coastal town like mombasa, malindi. You will enjoy the delicacies for sure.
Tanzanian from Dar-es-Salaam... this is an accurate review of both cities 👍
Thanks! 😃
Dar is super hot, makes one want to come back to Nairobi, but the low cost of living in Dar makes you want to stay a little more.

As a Kenyan who loves Tanzania music, I'm here for the comments.
👍🏽
Thanks guys for the I Information. Iove the voice of your Gal friend very calm and polite

You touched on the real issue at the end. What is it that suits an individual''s lifestyle? It's all subjective. For me personally I have no interest in going to Africa to experience New York City and eat like I'm in the USA.
We completely understand, thanks for watching!
@@FREEDOMCHASERSLIFE By the way please excuse my manners. I did enjoy the content it's good information for folks looking to visit /migrate.

Y'all have to try Kenyan street food. Ask for Mutura, smokie and mayai pasua you'll find them on trolleys along most streets in town.
Thanks for the recommendations!
@@FREEDOMCHASERSLIFE We don't really have a food culture here and foreigners have never loved our foods. Not even our neighbours love our foods. But we still take pride in our ugali... that's the food that's taking us to the streets.
Snacks to try
Chevda is a must try
Flavoured baobabs
Achari ( dried flavoured mangoes)
Bajia/viazi karai/with tamarind sauce n chillie
Casava/nduma crips
Ground nuts
Where can we get it?
You could get the above snacks in Nairobi CBD at the Jamia Mosque..right outside the Mosque
I love both countries
But Nairobi is just special

You should compare Mombasa n Dar es Salam they both coastal towns the food in Mombasa definitely matches that in Dar

In terms of transport network, you should have mentioned that BRT system started operating in Dar almost 8 years ago. Nairobi has eaten all the money meant for finishing the project.
@@esem135 it's a great milestone that ought to be highlighted. Giving credit where it's due.
Nairobi has a working Electric BRT system , Google is free

As a Kenyan, it's a shame I haven't been to Tanzania. I've just added Tanzania to my bucket list this year. See you Dar

Nairobi has everything, it's the only city in the world that has game park within. You can see giraffes, Buffaloes and lions while in your hotel rooms. If you have binoculars ie. 🤞

Thank you very much!am proud to be Kenyan... Nairobi is the city of Africa.

9:00 ok the weather comparison is a bit unfair to Tz as Nairobi is elevated (5500') whilst Dar is basically sea level (38'). You can compare Dar weather with Mombasa, Malindi, Diani etc
Come to Mombasa here you will be able to get the real taste of Kenyan food. Nairobi is more metropolitan .
from Tanzania...i think this is very honest and accurate opinion... Allahumah baarik

Nairobi and all over Kenya is beautiful!!!!!!!😮
Absolutely
Nairobi is the place to be. I love your channel ❤

All I'll say is don't hold your breath when it comes to local cuisine 😅 Most black foreigners find it quite bland as we don't use a lot of spices.
The spicy foods tend to be of Indian/ Arab origin, but then again, I imagine that's the case in TZ, too.
Thanks for watching!
Nairobi is another heaven from the airport you kind of breath a quite different air heavenly air
Absolutely
You should visit the Kenyan coast for a "fairer comparison", I daresay KE would still take the lead over Dar, not that it's a competition or anything, just saying. Prices in Kenya will remain high however, the Kenyan coast towns are a lot less expensive than Nairobi. I loved this video, great content guys.
Thanks for watching!
You need to visit Mombasa and her surrounding towns such Diani, Watamu, etc. You will see that will compare to Dar better than Nairobi
Am Kenyan and our local food ain’t that good compared to most African countries. I have tasted Ghanian, Ugandan and I wonder what do we eat .

The funniest part is we Kenyans are oblivious as to how ordinary our 'cuisine' is. And then the suggestions being given are mostly food of Indian origin. Ati chevda 😅

@@FREEDOMCHASERSLIFE Also visit the west side city next to the biggest lake in Africa Kisumu City & the tea town of Kericho.
Why are we so proud of having too much colonizers in our country....
@@mpendakiswahili3053. They are around but they are not as many as you may think. But the most important thing is that they do not control the economy of Nairobi and Kenyans are actually majority share holders in their city
