Kudos on the description of "Cosmic Horror", it was spot on. I've often tried to find the right words to describe it and I rarely find them the way you did. :)
@@Camelworks I love cosmic horror as well, but I think an important aspect you didn't mention is the insignificance of humanity. Cosmic horror makes us feel small, the old gods don't really care about us any more than we'd care about an ant. Maybe they'd find us curious, a novelty, maybe they'll ignore us, or maybe they'll just squash us just because they can, and there's not a thing any of us could do about it. Space is vast and unending in a way or minds can't really comprehend, and in the grand scheme of things a human being is nothing more than a momentary speck of dust in an uncaring universe
There's a quest in Paradiso to find lost items. One of the lost items was a Thermos. Also in that quest, there are a list of found items. One of the items on the list match a flyer on the 5th(?) floor looking for it and a number to call. There are a few times now I've wondered how to contact people in starfield.
I remember finding the boneyard while exploring random systems and thinking it was weird to find massive bones in a planet without fauna. I't wasn't so unclear as this one, I remember it was something like a giant whale or something like that. Who knows, maybe it was the great serpent.
My hypothesis is that these are the godly creatures, one of whom was Alduin, who ended up in Nirn in some alternate universe activity. Because if you recall, when alduin resurrects the other ancient dragons, they rise out of a crater like pit.
If you liked the boneyard there's actually an alien cave in many planets (I found it on Mercury). it's a variant of the "cave" POI that nobody visits since they are boring. They do appear as "Cave" but not something that you enter and loads a new area, but an open cave in the same worldspace as the landing zone. You can go in it and it's full of alien eggs and goo and icky-yucky stuff. I try to send you some pics somehow.
I actually had the boneyard show up on Mars on my very first playthrough. I haven't seen it since. It brought the Lovecraft vibes and merged with some Ancient Aliens by doing that.
I also found a boneyard on Mars and another planet. The one on Mars gave me Dune vibes. I'm guessing the features are randomized, even on familiar planets.
I had it on Mars recently. It was near a fracking outpost that I discovered from orbit. To top it off, I found the Boneyard during a literal thunderstorm, which I didn't think was possible on Mars. It was so epic.
Your dedication to these games and your fan base is absolutely admirable. All that work just to find out if ANYTHING was on the face of Mars just to find us something nobody else gas recorded finding yet! Consider us spoiled.
Love these types of videos! Dont get me wrong... i absolutely love the massive deep dives and CCC videos... but having all the new Starfield coming out from you is an absolute blessing!!!
Found the Cydonia Snowglobe with your video, but in my game the little structure on the concrete pad was not there so it took a while to find the spot to run up the hill.
After 250+ hours and on my 3rd NG+ I’m still finding things this is truly a gamers game in my opinion but I’m just a 40 year old that’s a casual gamer. Love the content and cant wait to uncover more things. Hope everyone has a great weekend! Now time to go to infinity and beyond!
I should point out that failure to communicate can occur on your first jump to **any** system. I’m not sure how it’s weighted but I’ve had it happen in Olympus , indum, and altair
I can’t get enough of this channel. I’m totally Skyrim obsessed even 10 years on and I felt similar about feeling salty towards starfield but played it with PC GamePass and Camel is helping me to really appreciate the game for what it is
It's not an RPG, it's a story based adventure game set in space. If Todd hadn't said all that stuff about the focus on exploration people would love it! It's just telling people to expect No Man Skyrim was a mistake, when the game is more like Guild Wars 2. Like if I said these shoes are great for running, then you open the box and it's army boots. Todd Howard's school of marketing lol lie lie lie.
@@DailyCorvid I agree but I think for me it was more that Starfield was getting between the release of the next Elder Scrolls. It’s the game no one asked for or expected but overall it’s turned out to be really fun.
I have found a boneyard once in the first 20 hours of playing. Somewhere in the “Altair” system. (Or something like that) I definitely thought it was weird, but I didn’t know it was so rare.
Some great discoveries.... really enjoyed this list. Stolen items are a real problem as you cannot use them first. If you select a stolen med pack and use it. The game takes one count off your legal med packs instead. So the "cleaning" tip is very useful.
I can provide confirmation of one thing you ask about in this video: the boneyard is *not* unique. I've found it on one other planet on my first character, a sandy desert moon in the back of beyond (I forget the name, apologies). I too found it eerie and almost eldritch and wondered what it could imply, but it's definitely a rare encounter location.
A usefull tip that goes along with how the merchant chests resets if your looking for a specific item after you wait 48hrs for a store to refresh if you save before talking to the merchant everytime you load that save the merchants items will reroll.
It's crazy how much research and detail you put into your videos. Please continue doing what you're doing, because the rest of us would never think about searching these things up, nevertheless we love to hear about it.
So on the last part, the boneyard. It is not unique but just very rare, i have visited every single system and have surveyed 300+ planets, if there is actually eldritch horrors behind the boneyard i dont know, but it is not unique as ive seen maybe 3 or 4, up 1 cause ive yet to reach that system in my complete surveying process. (im going from left to right)
There is a Lovecraftian easter egg in one of the systems, each of the moons of a certain purple gas giant is similar to several lovecraftian god names. I'll try to keep an eye out for it again but it was somewhere in the top left of the map near Kryx
I’ll look for it. Wonder if they’ve put any unique content in that system. Was hoping they’d have a horror mission or two, but mostly the horror missions just seem to be scary aliens with their disgusting lairs that sound like mac & cheese being stirred. 😂
Somebody already mentioned the Lost Thermos probably being a duplicate from the Paradiso Side Mission, but I actually found a duplicate of Salinas' Package from a POI. I can't remember which one, but I did have that particular quest active when I found it. I tried handing it to him but it wasn't recognized.
I had realized that the hill was the Face, and explored it a bit, but didn't manage to find the snowglobe. That's cool that it was put in the game. I had hoped that there would be a cool cave under the Face or something
The hidden chest in Skyrim never got patched. I always thought it was where the Khajit traders magically kept their stock. It's always the first place I go to to boost my enchanting.
@@joeyuncard3956i wouldn’t say it’s on purpose, more so that they don’t really care to fix bugs like that in a single player game… which I think is awesome.
There is a quest/mission on the resort planet where you find missing items and one of them is a lost thermos. It's near the landing pad right next to the trail (dunno if visible pre-quest obtaining).
I've not seen anyone else mention it yet, but you can meet the Hunter in the bar in New Atlantis before you meet him in the main quest. Pleased to say I took the opportunity to insult him before I even knew who he was.
In the mission where you go to save Barrett from capture, in their hideout somewhere there is a cabinet that’s cracked open barely and hidden inside. Is the antique motorcycle from the fallout series.
I actually came across multiple bone yards on a planet mine didn't have that shadow in them but the bones/things were the same very creepy and definitely made me think of the Xenomorph
There are a bunch of references to the movie aliens such as the design of the jumpsuits and the sound of the motion tracker during the terrormorph mission for the uc and ripley is one of the names vasco will say.
Literally the first random quest I took from the Constellation mission board to find an extinction event of some sort on a random planet took me to the exact same bones.
Oh the Paradiso one, yeah I noticed that when I married Sarah. The Fking hotel quest is bugged though, it still wont complete despite me sleeping in the bed and taking Sarah to heaven and back multiple times.
I gave up on the in game books after Cora begged for the origin of species repeatedly and I went out of my way for a couple days to try and find it for her, but then couldn’t give it to her.
I actually think it's crazy that BGS is actually using the word "Thermos" since that's a brand name. It would be like the box of napkins being named "Kleanex" or an adjustable wrench in FO4 bring called "Crescent Wrench" haha
@@KaitouKaijuSo I can stop pedantically referring to my thermos as a double walled metal insulated liquid container? Almost seems like a shame, really.
@@SineN0mine3 why not "insulated jug" instead of a whole sentence lol It's kind of weird. Everybody has been using Thermos for so long that trying to think of another name for it is almost like reinventing the term. I'm sure pre-63 they had some other generic term that we are all missing.
I found an identical boneyard on Muphrid V-B on my playthrough. I was sent there as part of one of Percival's "get samples of scary aliens" radiant quest. There is a shadow in the same spot, but it seems to obey normal lighting physics. Even has the same nook with two skulls and a master lock safe. It's the only boneyard I've ever found, but I also haven't gone to Vlad's place yet.
Imagine if DLC “Shattered Space” starts by investigating “The Boneyard” and introduces these creatures, maybe explore where they come from, could be fun.
I would be disappointed if shattered space was not an explanation of what/who made the artifacts and starborn stuff. It's left me with that same feeling I got after learning that there would not be a second mass effect andromeda. Goddamnit I wanted to know who built all that tech we've been hacking all game and what that space spaghetti shit was really.
We absolutely need a Lovecraftian DLC. Bethesda are clearly fans of the genre and they like to theme entire DLCs based around Lovecraft. Point Lookout and Dragonborn for example. Far Harbor could be thrown in there as well. Let's hope their streak of Lovecraftian DLC continues with Starfield.
There's a boneyard on Mars just outside of Cydonia, at least, there is in my game. It's full of heat leeches that attack you, and the big bones look kinda like giant heat leeches, if you ask me.
This is a GREAT video. I paused everything last night as soon as I saw that bridge with the hidden chamber underneath. I'm waiting to log on later before I look.
Thanks for the shout out 🙌 I'll be updating my guide and crediting you to the find. I'm a data miner and found the list in the game files but interesting that console commands list doesn't show the Tower of Pisa so thanks for confirming. The two snowglobes with no name are the two NASA ones. Also nice to meet a fellow Aussie.
If you wanna spend up waiting, use tilde to open console commands and use the phrase "passtime " follow by a number. It will pass that many hours in game. Idk if it's GT UT tho
I've heard Cydonia NPCs mention that the face of Mars is nearby ("they used to think it was a face, lol, noobs" is the general gist of it) but I never realised that was a hint to go there, awesome find dude!
I found this boneyard as well. I had just fought a bunch of cricket-like creatures, and thought the bones were from an ancient master race of giant alien crickets. And the smaller ones I fought were their progeny. Very cool you found it as well. Thanks for the excellent videos!
Ive been on vacation for almost 2 weeks away from my retail job and ive been getting stoned in the morning and playing Starfield. Its such a great game when your stoned and eating pizza.
If I remember correctly, there is a quest in Paradiso where you look for lost items, and one of them is the Lost Thermos. This could very well be taken with a grain of salt but this thermos found in the locker could have been placed in oversight.
You can find someone talking about the face on Mars. As in, can you believe that people used to think there was a face on Mars. It was like my fourth or fifth trip to the bar.
there's a lady in one of the tourist colony's (forget which, but you break ice off for the brown outs) in the crates area that the poor people live that is struggling to get through college and you can give her 20,000 for a scholarship. as far as I know there is no reward for this but it feels good to do a little philamprothy!
I ran into the boneyard yesterday, i didn't think it was that planet but it might have been. I got gigantic xenomorph vibes. So my theory is its one of original Terromorphs, or at least the ancestor or predecessor to them. And thos two people might have been Archaeologist that stumbled on the Find, And possibly even unknowingly released them upon the settled systems by unearthing dormant eggs.
For the Akila Vendor glitch... you can double the credits at least. if you go to the Skik planet or what ever and sleep for a full day, you can reset the credits, then talk to the vendor again, it resets the container again. SO you can loot it twice for one sleep.
Fun fact: The Monuments of Mars: A City on the Edge of Forever by Richard Hoagland was the book about the Face and other parts of Cydonia. I worked for a group that recorded lectures and got to see him speak in the early 90s working the tape copy machine. (Remember it was the 90s). It was interesting.
I've seen three boneyards across a hundred worlds. I've not been to Vlad's home and all three were in desert biomes, if I recall correctly. Also, next time you weigh seven metric tons, try using the Personal Atmosphere power before running. While the power is active there will be no CO2 buildup and thus no health loss or blurry screen.
You actually can get to surface/landmark locations without quests, I landed in london and found the shard landmark in the distance. It'd be quite difficult to locate anything on an entire planet however without a marker.
I think that tool at the boneyard is a shovel, and it's a clue that we should look underground by clipping through and find those horrible faces at the end of these skeletal structures
The bone yard looks like an excavation site. I think the shadow was a bug though it'll be cool if it ends up not being one. The "rake" was probably a shovel the 2 dead guys were using to dig up whatever those things were.
H.R. Giger artwork you referenced is known as biomechanical, and it truly is the perfect description for that... thing. The under the ground portion is even more horrific in design. The shadow in a clear sky is definitely weird, and reminds me of the movie Nope.
Hey Cammel, I found what looks like a ritual/worship site with similar biomechanical (bones?) Arranged around a metalic looking (stone?) The stone makes the same wood sound the bones do when struck with a blade. There is also a (nest, arrangment?) With the same biomechanical bones on top of one of the arches. Location: Linnaeus System, Linnaeus II - Natural Archways, Frozen Mountains biome. (Compass marker is "Natural"). Edit: Found a Xeno Grub wandering the site. Edit: from afar the site looks like the planets surface was pushed up/out. There is also a large (too large to be for humans) stone (table, alter?) With two peices(mineral) of silver on it.
In reference to the boneyard bits clipped below, leaving additional horror for those that explore deeper than one is meant to explore is pretty on brand with Lovecraftian horror.🐙 But also, I've found it on a different planet as well. I don't recall which one, but I do know I haven't been to the planet in this video in my playthrough yet. Very cool feature that hopefully will have a part in some future content. Much like Herma Mora's realm in Skyrim's DLC. That was one of my favorite DLC additions to the skyrim games so having some Lovecraftian influenced horror within Starfield would easily be exciting for me to explore.
What details have you found in Starfield? What's with the hidden Cydonia Snow Globe? Have you found my Nirnroot out there? Who lost their thermos? What manner of unspeakable eldritch horror did we find at the Boneyard?

@@Camelworks I love cosmic horror as well, but I think an important aspect you didn't mention is the insignificance of humanity. Cosmic horror makes us feel small, the old gods don't really care about us any more than we'd care about an ant. Maybe they'd find us curious, a novelty, maybe they'll ignore us, or maybe they'll just squash us just because they can, and there's not a thing any of us could do about it. Space is vast and unending in a way or minds can't really comprehend, and in the grand scheme of things a human being is nothing more than a momentary speck of dust in an uncaring universe
Solid Lovecraft reference
I have also run across 1 boneyard on another planet. I wish I had marked it. At the time I assumed it was a normal thing. Never seen another though.
Camel out here discovering fondable in-game secrets for the first time based on console commands alone
Absolute chad
I have found them on occasion, but I did not keep track of which planets, they are rare, but not that rare
I had it on Mars recently. It was near a fracking outpost that I discovered from orbit. To top it off, I found the Boneyard during a literal thunderstorm, which I didn't think was possible on Mars. It was so epic.
I definitely have found one... Now I'm not 100% sure if I've found more. But pretty sure the first one at least was on Kreet.
I had a boneyard show up not too far from Cydonia as I explored the whole area surrounding it.
Your dedication to these games and your fan base is absolutely admirable. All that work just to find out if ANYTHING was on the face of Mars just to find us something nobody else gas recorded finding yet! Consider us spoiled.
Wow...
Man we need MORE of these videos! I could watch them all day long (or at least when I’m not playing Starfield)!
On Paradiso, if you speak to the guy at the desk he can give you a quest finding lost items; one of those is a lost thermos.
I found the Delvin Mallory reference day 1! You’re the first I’ve seen mention it, so kudos!
(Or something like that)
I definitely thought it was weird, but I didn’t know it was so rare.
I found it once with a pair of terrormorphs guarding it, the second time I found it it was empty.
@@SineN0mine3Yikes, that'd be an ugly surprise on backwater planets.
Met a Terrormorph on Kreet when I first started the game. Only managed to beat it using the high ground. Thank you Obi Wan Kenobi.
Just wanted to say that your experience with the boneyard is unique. I traveled all around the same areas you did
A usefull tip that goes along with how the merchant chests resets if your looking for a specific item after you wait 48hrs for a store to refresh if you save before talking to the merchant everytime you load that save the merchants items will reroll.
I CANNOT FIND THIS DAMN SNOWGLOBE!
I'm going insane.
Slowly.
It is their stock, yeah, they NEVER patched it even in the anniversary edition. AND THEN THEY DID THE SAME BUG HERE. TODD.
It's almost like it was done on purpose
At this point it’s definitely on purpose
@@joeyuncard3956i wouldn’t say it’s on purpose, more so that they don’t really care to fix bugs like that in a single player game… which I think is awesome.
The chest he went over in this video is already patched, it’s in the patch notes and I just checked, it’s not accessible
Segway master. Seamless. Flawless. Effortless. That’s how ya do it man. Well deserved like and sub
Your guide to the snow globe was on point. I used the landmarks you recommended to triangulate the position. Got it in a few minutes. Thanks!
I actually came across multiple bone yards on a planet mine didn't have that shadow in them but the bones/things were the same very creepy and definitely made me think of the Xenomorph
NASA air brushed and doctored the pictures of the Face on Mars to make it seem like it wasn't real.
The face is really there.
There are a bunch of references to the movie aliens such as the design of the jumpsuits and the sound of the motion tracker during the terrormorph mission for the uc and ripley is one of the names vasco will say.
This fella knows how to talk to the Internet
The quest "Failure to Communicate" can appear in multiple star systems. You can also bug it by doing ANYTHING for the quest before meeting the people.
Literally the first random quest I took from the Constellation mission board to find an extinction event of some sort on a random planet took me to the exact same bones.
25:09 There is a quest that requires you to find some lost items, but the only item not marked with "lost" is the thermos.
The name was genericized in 1963
@@KaitouKaijuSo I can stop pedantically referring to my thermos as a double walled metal insulated liquid container? Almost seems like a shame, really.
@@SineN0mine3 why not "insulated jug" instead of a whole sentence lol
It's kind of weird.
@@JarofMayonaise There might not be a direct sequel to MA:A, but I suspect they're not done exploring that mystery.
We absolutely need a Lovecraftian DLC. Bethesda are clearly fans of the genre and they like to theme entire DLCs based around Lovecraft. Point Lookout and Dragonborn for example. Far Harbor could be thrown in there as well. Let's hope their streak of Lovecraftian DLC continues with Starfield.
im telling you it the damn Varuun serpent.
You're a genuine Star Born hero dude.
Found the globe.
Took some searching and persistency. 👍
Omg the storage tip is game saving.
There's a boneyard on Mars just outside of Cydonia, at least, there is in my game.
It's full of heat leeches that attack you, and the big bones look kinda like giant heat leeches, if you ask me.
Spoiler..
There is a Power called Personal Atmosphere that will let you sprint at full speed infinitely while overweight.
This is a GREAT video. I paused everything last night as soon as I saw that bridge with the hidden chamber underneath. I'm waiting to log on later before I look.
Incredible discovery with Cydonia! A real explorer!
wouldnt be a bethesda game without h.p. lovecraft and cosmic horror references
The loot puddles in Akila City were removed in the latest patch.
Man, I can’t imagine how giddy you got when you found the snow globe. Good work my dude!!
I've found boneyards on other planets before, also found massive fossil beds on planets with no fauna
If you wanna spend up waiting, use tilde to open console commands and use the phrase "passtime " follow by a number. It will pass that many hours in game. Idk if it's GT UT tho
The directions to the face on Mars snow globe were spot on, thank you! I wonder what the quest would have been?
I've heard Cydonia NPCs mention that the face of Mars is nearby ("they used to think it was a face, lol, noobs" is the general gist of it) but I never realised that was a hint to go there, awesome find dude!
The glorious Bethesda magic with Emerson's inventory and Belle's.
Quickly turning into my favourite starfield channel
The Boneyard appears randomly. I've seen it 3 times while playing my explorer build playthrough.
I found this boneyard as well. I had just fought a bunch of cricket-like creatures, and thought the bones were from an ancient master race of giant alien crickets. And the smaller ones I fought were their progeny. Very cool you found it as well. Thanks for the excellent videos!
The vendor loophole in Akila City has been closed, at least in my version. I was using it daily for two weeks, then the big update happened.
Interesting that it wasn't in the patch notes though
if you zoom out on the local map, you actually recognize the face (provided you know that it is there). makes it much easier to find the snow globe
I appreciate the theatrics employed by The Camel. Justice is done for the RPG appreciating gamer. Keep it up Camel!
Loving this new era.
The "Lost thermos" is a quest item for a sidequest on paradiso for the lost and found quest to be specific.
Ha, the X over the old twitter logo gave me a good chuckle
Tbh, I had no idea there were crafting tables in The Lodge. I always just included a Workshop Hab in my ships.
Great work finding that snow globe it definitely gives the game more soul
Wonderful video! Learned not only some neat facts about Starfield secrets, but also some neat Mars facts!
Inara doesn't even list Boneyard as a Trait, so that backs up the theory that it is unique or extremely rare.
Is that a Reaper Leviathan from Subnautica in the Bone Yard? That was the first thing I could think of! very nice. Great video!
Heh...I was going to suggest a Reaper or a Leviathan from Mass Effect.
My first explored location was a boneyard, definitely not on that planet.
Lost thermos is for a mission on the vacation planet
You actually can get to surface/landmark locations without quests, I landed in london and found the shard landmark in the distance. It'd be quite difficult to locate anything on an entire planet however without a marker.
I think that tool at the boneyard is a shovel, and it's a clue that we should look underground by clipping through and find those horrible faces at the end of these skeletal structures
It took awhile, but I found the snow globe, thank you. Opportunity was my favorite, but now the face may be.
The bone yard looks like an excavation site. I think the shadow was a bug though it'll be cool if it ends up not being one. The "rake" was probably a shovel the 2 dead guys were using to dig up whatever those things were.
What if it was the "great serpent" the Varuun speak of? If it's a cosmic being that would explain the crater if it died and crashed
I found it accidently too, but didn't think anything of it. Didn't know it was such a mystery. Good to know.
In reference to the boneyard bits clipped below, leaving additional horror for those that explore deeper than one is meant to explore is pretty on brand with Lovecraftian horror.🐙
But also, I've found it on a different planet as well.
I used your video as a framing for making any more concise video helping people find the snow globe on Mars
