Rn im doing a space cowboy, but a character i had a idea for was a space samurai character that has a long ranged sniper weapon as a backup. very excited to get to it after my first playthrough
i got a revolver after raiding the first pirate base thats part of your first misson and its like 10x stronger than the starting guns, and way better than anything ive found to that point are yhe guns random?
I'm an outpost builder build/item crafter modder. P.S You got the scanning wrong 1:00:39 , it's not resource scan but planetary scans which you do inside your space ship while hovering in orbit of planet/moon.
Right now I am playing jack of all trades master of none. I think I've only ranked 2 abilities to level 2 and that's stealth and ballistics? Maybe one more but I'm blanking. I want to make a space god and I'll be upping the difficulty to very hard on my new game +
I used to be resentful towards Starfield because I'm a big Elder Scrolls fan and dying for ES6, but it seems like Bethesda has worked hard on this game and I can't wait to dive in
I've been an Elder Scrolls fan since Daggerfall. (1993) I got the premium upgrade for 30 bucks so I could play early via Gamepass yesterday. I have about 18 hours in so far. This one is special. It is hands down the greatest RPG Bethesda has ever created. It is their magnum opus.
@nunyabusiness9013 I was only born in 98, but I've played all of them since from Arena and forward. I have to agree... gaming has felt like a chore to me with a lot of games recently but I was a kid lost in a new world again with this
1:00:39 Gas giants are really useful for fully surveying/scanning for leveling up the Scanning skill! Since you can't land on them anyway, just scanning from space counts just the same as going to a planet with a dozen each plants and animals and resources and manually scanning them all.
If you want to rank up weight lifting fast go to a planet with low gravity, have your boost pack skill (rank 2 or above works really well with this), start printing then jump and start using your boost pack as much as possible while moving forward. While in the air you will use no stamina, but it still counts your sprinting distance because once you hit the ground you will start sprinting again so it’s active while in the air. That skill can be maxed out really fast that way. Preferably this works if you’re on a higher place to use your boost pack more. I did this in some canyons and got my ranks up extremely fast
24:17 resources are only tracked if you go into a crafting station and press the track resources button on a recipe/upgrade. resources like adhesive, copper, etc.
Most of us know but to specify: every craft menu from cooking to crafting weapon mods or outpost thingies you are indicated what resource needed for it. There you can track the resource, it puts a magnifying glass icon on it, and the same icon will appear beside the item name whenever you can buy it, loot it, etc. So you don't have to memorise what needed for something, just track it, and when someone sells it or its on the floor grab it, buy it. I even use it when prepping something new to my outpost or a mod, it helps what to purchase.
1:15:33 You can use the UC Vanguard pilot simulator for some of the ship combat based skills for fast unlocks. I have Particle Beams on my ship, so I couldn't rank up that skill in the simulator because that ship doesn't have PBs on it
I just kill/ harvest them anyway (unless they're absolutely docile... and even sometimes than, I just hate chasing beetles around) but it's a cool skill I guess.
Tracked resources is when you hit the track button while upgrade at the research station or weapon building station, etc. It puts a magnifying glass next to item that you’re tracking while in a store.
I've seen a lot of people talking about whether the frame rate being locked to 30fps on Xbox is an issue and for me I must say at first it seemed a little jarring as I'm used to playing at 60fps but after an hour or so of gameplay my eyes had fully readjusted and it seems smooth as a spacers brain
Not when its "get 20 shotgun kills" then "get 50" "get 100" ect.. I cannot imagine anything more boring. Especially when it doesnt count your kills unless youve activated the last perk. How fun and engaging is it to run in a circle and run yourself out of oxygen 50 times, especially when it bugs out and randomly doesnt count? I just think some of these perks could use a rework and will probably get it in the form of mods.
@@travisadams6279not every skill challenge is linear like that, boost assault training is set enemies on fire/ knockdown enemies/deal 500 damage to enemies. Not all are just pick lock-> pick more locks
@@jacksonwagner992 Well damn. I really miss skills from the older fallouts and the way perks use to work (not just number increases) as they added unique abilities and cool effects. Like "And stay back" for shotguns granting knockback effects. Or the energy corona for energy weapons making them crit and explode in a huge plasma blast. I just dont get it, the average gamer cannot be that dumb that they have to keep watering down the perks and character builds. Who is this for? Surely most people would have more fun with the old skill/perk system.
@@travisadams6279 huh? This is way more detailed than the other games! Figuring out how to build is SO much harder. Because there is SO much good stuff all over. Pretty much all useful in some way shape or form. And TONS more.
One thing I picked up early on that is real simple: The Trade Authority stores usually accept contraband and stolen goods. I also picked up a sidequest to deliver a pair of boots from New Atlantis to a space station, for me in the Wolf system nearby, and the Trade Authority there is a no questions asked fence, and though it is patrolled by the UC Vanguard, there are still no scanners, so I take any contraband there.
yeah, if unsure if a ship I hijacked has contraband I missed or not I just take it and sell it at a docking yard (like the stroud-strickland w/e one in the system nearby The Den- Wolf- or Dene... w/e orbiting Mars) as there's no contraband scan.
Unlocking Gymnastics 2 requires fall damage, but unlocking Gymnastics 3 requires kills in micrograv. I'm not sure which other skills change their requirements as they rank up. But, it stands to reason that there may be other skills with variable requirements like this.
There are a few skills I'd say are not to be sneezed at, the spacesuit design and weapons engineer are almost mandatory if you want to be able to make the best gear possible. Also best to point out if you join the UC vanguard you get access to a "flight sim" that will put you into ship to ship fights. Have to laugh at crippling 4 that's a reference to one of the elder scrolls games, if I remember right it's a guard who says that he used to be an adventurer until he took an arrow to the knee.
weapons yes, spacesuit less so as lower lvls (since that's all I've gotten to so far) are so easy and easy to cheese- ie steal the mark 1 armor suit from the get go than get the mantis suit soon after... I suppose in late game the bots catch up but until than no upgrades are really necessary! But as far as weapon mods, who DOESN'T like to kill their enemies quicker?? lol
Also note that you don’t have to complete the UC Vanguard quest line. Just go to the “flight test” and then don’t speak to the guy about your results. You have access to the flight simulator until you have a good portion of the starship skills unlocked and leveled
1:23:18 "...have not incountered any ship that has a missile system that locks on" ALL SHIPS that have missiles can lock on to targets. Get within range and wait for the red target icon to close into a square and the missiles are locked on. It takes a bit, and you have to keep the ship inside the large circle on your hud, but all ships with missiles have this feature
😆 thanks... I was wondering why my missed weren't locking thus when they get super close I let them have it... So it's like IRL with Fighter Jets Dogfights.😮
@danmoua7686 no problem! And yep. Just like today's fighters. Did you see my comment regarding thrusters? The rank 1 in piloting gives you access to a thruster mode, bot just making your ship easier to handle. Press and hold RB on console (don't know the button on PC) and you can strafe up down left and right. But ALSO you can spin your ship around while keeping your original direction. Ie: someone is behind you... boost away, hold thruster button, spin 180 and take them out while still moving away from them. Another example is if they are heading right at you, you can hold the thruster button and spin your ship as they pass, keeping them in your sights as they zoom by. Then just release the button and boost after them.
1:10:00 you can use the flight simulator at the vanguard HQ at mast to fight waves of ships that will count towards this skill Edit: this applies to all the skills that include destroying/damaging ships
One boost to that is after a run through or 2 start another then get out of your chair and go to the terminal behind you (other side of the wall) and you can improve the training ship to a stronger one. Then sit back down and the next run your killing faster and best bigger opponents thus more exp as well as better flight training to get used to the game mechanics
Many of the skills offer role-play options as well. Medicine for exqmple has given me unique dialogue options i wouldn't have had before, and really makes the game feel like. It is considering my character when in dialogue.
@heyspookyboogie644 there is a security speech check right at the beginning of the game and ive seen at least 4 others so I guess you just didn't have certain skills in certain conversations
Tracking resources refers to crafting and outpost building. You can select an item you dont have the resources for and it will "track" them in a little list off to the side of the scanner making it easier to remember what you were looking for. With that perk it would actually highlight the tracked items themselves when you look at them.
This skill is GREAT and OP for setting up the best Outpost locations... 1. Set the 3 or 4 things you want to find in the biome and best in the boarder so increases the chances. 2. Land as close to the biome border as you can ( pixels are almost yards) so be sure to hard save 1st. 3. Then start walking to the area looking for the outpost ideal site which has the elements you want. When found in the area fastsave and pop the outpost... then double check and pop the extractors. In my playthrough I was looking at 4 and ended up finding 2 more including H3 and Copper. That saved all kinds of Time. One other level up trick related to that. I had Al & Fe so as the stuff came in and had time, in place if sleeping the 3 hours to make enough I use the scanner to see what else was about, and used the time to to level up other skills. Even lol took off my helmet to see the effect of fumes and helped out my Medicine and used all the food as it helped so slowly the gastronomy. Other benefit was by crafting was getting new points so added them at rank 1 to various ones I knew I needed. @Camelworks You are missing out on the best character builder in the game by not doing crafting. Not just being able to raise XP and Funds but the RP value, and all the skill tree elements that fall from it. Added your Outpost serves as the safe port to unload cargo that should be not on you or the ship. The story lines I've been doing by using the Outpost mission board and the benefits beat any OP you can try. I just hit lv66 and realized that by carefully using outposts and the scanner trick above added to taking the 1st ship I captured and turning it into a shipping tug .. I can now pick and choose any Path I want to move forward. Try it you will live it too
@@Shadowrakhe had quite a lot of errors in this. like planet scanning he mixed up with planet survey that are totally different things. also finding ships is so easy as you just pick a kill pirate leader mission from terminal etc. But on his defense i got 230 hours and i got a ton of stuff that i have not done. But he seemed to lack a lot on basic stuff but could be explained he never before played a bethesda game so its all new to him.
@@Goldbergeri He could've also used console commands to unlock each rank to get a better idea and understanding of the skills and also to see the challenges for each rank.
he missed a number of tricks people have developed since release (so he gets a pass lol) but man am I impressed even half a month after release, great job!
Targeting is different. Every damwge you cause affects the whole enemy ship, first shield l, then hull. Targeting can analyse enemy, when finished you can target it's engine, or weapons for example, with every weapon you have. Missiles needs lock, it damages enemy ship generally as ever ly other weapon. Unless something is targeted, again like enemy engines.
Stagger resistance is an absolute must-have. Terrormorphs are a huge pain to fight without it, and once you get to higher levels, a lot of pirates will use bridgers and negotiators which stagger frequently as well. There are a couple quests out there that involve a lot of persuasion attempts as well. I cant remember the names of them, but it'd be a good idea to look these up and save skill points before attempting them.
Heck I just found my first Bridger (lvl 20) and found me staggering myself by shooting things in close range lol must be careful with that thing I guess heheh
When it comes to persuasion I have had the opposite experience. I get the chance to persuade quite often. When you ask the nova more questions new dialogue options will appear. Clicking those new options will usually lead to a chance to persuade the NPC talking to you. There is tons of chances to persuade in Neon city between the Ryujin corps and Street gang storylines. Not even the side quest you can finish in just a few moments using persuasion as well.
I’ve definitely had some enemies bleed out and as far as I’m aware, it’s just like when they’re on their hands and knees, but you’re getting a red hit markers till they die. I’ve also noticed the enemy bleeding affect while using shrapnel grenades. The only problem with it is it seems random. I can never get it to trigger on purpose, but I have definitely noticed getting hit markers while I’m hiding behind cover actively reloading, not being able to hit an enemy
The "ship I stole was full of contraband" can however be circumvented. After you go onto the new ship you need to sit down in the pilot's seat, then go into the ship menu. It will say that your last one is your main ship, but it will show the new one. You then set the new one as your main ship. Afterwards you need to dock onto your old ship before she jumps away (usually a lot of time for that) and just go back into the pilot seat and make it your main ship. This way the new contraband cargo will get transfered to your old ship which probably has shielded cargo.
If you want to rank up persuasion fast go to any bar that has crew members for hire (i did this on New Atlantis) and do their dialogue options to decrese their hiring price(usualy picking the option that talks about not that many jobs avaliable worked for me)
Pro tip...piloting skill, max it out, then mount turrets on your ship. Turrets are a game changer in space combat. Just be sure to power them off if you are trying to disable a ships engines to capture it. 😎
I assume resource tracking is like resource tracking in Fallout 4 where you can go to a crafting recipe, and select to track the resources needed to make it. When selected, whenever you come across an item that can be broken down into said resources, the item is highlighted on the HUD. I haven't played Starfield yet, but I assume that's what that skill is talking about.
Tracked resources is an option when you are building an outpost, researching, or crafting something at a work station that you do not have the resources to make/complete. A prompt will show for that item or research subject that will put a little blue magnifying glass next to the name of that item whenever you encounter it so you know it is something you need to compete a build or research later on. Very helpful.
1:23:00 so for the missile, there is locking that appear blinking next to selected target when you have them inside the visor, the blinking will stop and text change to locked, then the missile will chase, same for the big gun I can't remember the name, usually they die before but if you encounter foe way above your lvl it makes the fight doable
Highly appreciate the effort you have put in the making of it + timestamp, that is high quality content. Skills requiring a ship kill, you can easily perform in the Vanguard flight simulator. Part of the main gameplay story early on, but you can access the simulator at any time after.
Tracking resources in the Scavanger perk is when you're looking for a material for crafting. In a menu it shows up as a blue magnifying glass, but with the perk it will have a glow/halo when you pass it in the field
24:26 Tracked recourses with this skill combined would be very handy when you're working on outposts but you're not just running from New Atlantis shops to your base to buy and sell the materials you need. For those who haven't found why it's useful, when you craft you're able to highlight/search for certain materials you need and when you go to shops you'll see a little blue thing pop next to it to tell you this is a resource you need. So with this skill you'll just be able to scan when you go explore and know exactly what to pick up. Could be handy fs
I have prioritised piloting, ship design, ballistic (fps) and social (aiming for a max crew). 20:52 p.s, when you sell a ship you take/steal, register then sell it. All the items on it (and in cargo) get transferred to you home ship cargo. So that really helps the "sell items" needs. 1:15:59 so finding ships to destroy is very easy, ether use the training simulation at the vanguards HQ, or just grav jump around till hostile ship pop up. 1:23:30 you will need targeting in teir 1 to get your missles system to lock. Other then that it will only have dumb fire.
As far as I know, the rank 1 piloting "can use ship thrusters" is referencing when you hold spacebar (IDK on console) and WASD makes you fly up/down/strafe LR instead of roll and forward/back.
24:25 when you are researching, crafting, or upgrading an item and you don't have all the resources for it you can track the resources that you need for it like in fallout. it puts a magnifying glass next to it indicating that you are tracking said item(s)
For rejuvenation don't use combat to drop below 25% health. Unlock this at the same time you're taking fall damage and/or damage from jumps or whatever. If you can control the damage you take you're pretty much safe. Jump off rock, take 10% damage. Do this 8 times. Fully heal. Repeat that 3 times. Now you've unlocked rank 1 of rejuvenation, and you've taken fall damage 24 times. Easy peasy.
I don’t think he realizes you can make creature farms where you breed alien species native to where your outpost is and you can harvest their resources so it could be a super rare creature but if you hve that researched from outpost engineering that’s what the skill where you can harvest their resources without killing them is for so that you can just farm them and keep them in an enclosure
Id say dont except a full space sim but more of a true space rpg where you can do what you want, you just need to have the priority to go for what you want, but id say its a great fun time for me personally and id recommend it if you wanna put alot of time into something similar to fallout in space with more depth
For anyone wanting to get ship building up FAST!!!! Join the UC and grind their ship VR whatever it is! It counts towards ship kills and such! Use the ship VR!!!
I've been toying with several character concepts, but this video helped me narrow it down to two. A lot of the others are too broad and I think will have me 100+ hours in and still working to become the character I want to play. To get ranks in some of the tier 3 or 4 skills it seems you should really emphasize just one or two trees. I'm thinking my first playthrough will be either full explorer or what I think of as "space monk." One would focus almost entirely on science (geology, medicine, research methods, surveying, botony, scanning, zoology and astrophysics). Most likely would cap it with outpost engineering and planetary habitation. It is probably less exciting, but would be good for a first character, letting me learn a lot of things that would be useful for late game and future alts. The other would focus primarily on the physical skills: melee/unarmed combat, increased movement and carrying capacity, damage reduction and healing. I'm thinking of starting as the bouncer who found religion and putting points in boxing, fitness, weight lifting, gymnastics, martial arts and neurostrikes. To increase survivability, I'll probably round it out with points in stealth, energy weapon dissipation or pain tolerance, environmental conditioning, cellular regeneration, decontamination, concealment and rejuvenation. Like most assessments, I think almost every build should drop a point or two in boost pack training and security. I'm looking forward to seeing what other builds people will use.
24:14 when you going to your ship there's the station called research. You take specific items and some ores to pay the cost of the research. Some research increases decorations, and other ones can improve your weapons. And it's one of the few things that carries over after you beat the game and start a game plus, it's like a prestige mode.
I hate that I'm watching this while working because I just wanna go grind levels now. Thanks for this! The skills are a bit overwhelming when you're just starting out so going through them one by one like this is super helpful.
You can track resources in the crafting menus (workbenches and research lab). When you lack an item or resource to craft or research you can track the resources so they'll have a blue magnifier glass next to those resources required for crafting. It is the same system that is in Fallout 4. :) Hope this helps when you're looking for resources to craft something.
I just finished the Crimson fleet quests. I really enjoyed them and was surprised that when I sided with the fleet, my whole crew was so mad lol. It’s not like in other bathesda games where it gets ignored what you choose
Tracking is really cool. When you go into a crafting menu like a Cooking Station, Pharmaceutical station, weapons or spacesuit crafting, you identify the modification or recipe you want to craft and it shows you the resource cost. There's a button for "Track Project" or "Track resources" usually an X button for XBox on the bottom right hand corner and those resources get highlighted with blue magnifying glass. And whenever you find those resources in the game, in your inventory or storage, at a merchant, looting containers or bodies, resources with tracking always show that blue magnifying glass so you don't miss resources you need or accidentally sell them. It allows your looting to be waaaay more efficient so you don't have grab or keep every crafting and have to go back into a menu to see what it does. I would LOVE to have that feature in Skyrim or Fallout New Vegas, because i run into the issue of remembering crafting items and hoarding them constantly. I haven't unlocked this skill yet, but I'm assuming when you pull up the scanner, those tracked resources are highlighted somehow different from the blue you usually see around all other items you pick up. I'm definitely going to get that skill cuz I'm a crafting junkie.
Hey @Camelworks just FYI on the scavenger perk if playing in PC, when in ent crafting or research menu you can hit “X” on keyboard to select items to track.
Just hit x on console to track the resources your looking for, or in the build menu. Just be prepared to memorize planets youve found with those resources early on anyway, i havent touched quests in over like 50 hrs now, just been no mans skyriming building and exploring, best early thing you can do as a loot goblin is uograde your ships cargo, hit (A)when you dont have a part highlighted or selected and youll bring up the ship part shop.
Diplomacy is really easy to level UP because you can use it on any NON-citizen human NPC. Its % based but any city has enough for you to level it up. And you can use it stealthed so you can still use it before the gunfight, but make it so less enemies shoot you at same time, focusing 1st on the hostiles ones and kill the pacified after those.
You can level up the payload skill easily by just switching to a low cargo ship. All your cargo will automatically get transfered to that ship even if its more than the ship cargo
My Skyrim joke about the lockpicking was “the lockpicking skill tree- when wiping your ass with perk points just isn’t enough.” Looks like Starfield found a way to get me to invest in a couple levels of lockpicking.
24:31 tracking resources is set when in crafting or research stations. If you need items, you can hit "track" and it'll mark items you're trying to obtain in inventories.
Thank you for this video. I know you put a whole shit ton of time and work into this video. It's so much appreciated. You definitely earned a sub for this. I can't wait to watch more of your videos.
Love how they kinda learned about how op skyrim stealth was, and made concealment be the skyrim stealth effects. Edit: Oh wow they even made the health regen a final tier skill. Whoever says they didn't learn from the faults of skyrim as FO4 game design is lying.
Easiest way to take damage, and do most of the associated skill challenges; Make a temporary outpost next to an environmental hazard (gas leaking out of ground), make a habitat entrance, plop a sleeping bag in the airlock and you're done. Just walk into the hazard, take damage, go into the airlock (don't need to open/close it) far enough and you're considered "in safe zone" meaning all hazard damage (yellow health damage) will heal over time, sleep for 1 hour and you've not only healed but removed all hazard dmg. This is great for taking dmg, healing dmg, taking hazard dmg, using medkits, you name it.
Surveying is great for loot goblins for highlighting loot from further away or hidden, and for snipers to find targets from further away without taking too long finding everyone.
@@Rising._.Thunder UPDATE. I am no longer encumbered, after painfully crawling everywhere I realized it wasn't worth it but I am now a master of inventory management and I'm rich so I don't need to pick to stuff up
This is a very handy video for beginners at the game - it really gives an idea of where you need to lump your skill points. If you don't mind a tiny criticism, the word "amount" refers to substances, not individual items. For example, you can say the number of dollars, or the amount of cash. You can say the number of sweets, but the amount of confectionery. Forgive the nit-picking.
Ive watched this in the background well i play over 5 times.... im level 28 and i still cant decide what i want and im filled with constant anxiety of delaying stuff too long. Ugh. Still having so much fun tho!!!
Deff focused heavily on science for my first playthru because of the "easy" level grind via planet surveys. FINALLY working on tech/spaceship skills more consistently tho. I'd love anouther 3-5 posts in planet survey type skills but I really just gotta start putting skills in other trees, I'm tryna get better ships finally!
To level up any of the ship destroy skills there is a training program near the lodge (right above the train) and take the elevator to the training course and you can get maxed within a couple hours
For the Botany skill, it would be fun to unlock greenhouse habitats for your ship, even the 3X3X3 tree habitat from the ECS Constant if you have the Starship Design skill maxed out.
You can also get skill points from Quests...Spoiler Alert: I got a tier 4 social skill(manipulation) from Ryujin final quest without having to meet the tier 4 criteria.
tracked resources is when you say need titanium to build something you can "track" it so that when you come up upon junk that has titanium a small magnifying glass will show up next to the item. I can't wait to become the sneaky, persuasive chef forcing people to surrender to my space equivalent of a 1978 Ford Pinto!
Another great thing about persuasion is when you’re hiring your crew, you can talk down new hires by 50% by telling them that their original price is not worth it
I have the first level of training and so far the boost pack is only helpful to me on low grav worlds. Not essential, just convenient. On high grav worlds like Jemison the boost pack doesn’t do much of anything.
@_.51 The basic jetpack you get at low levels without upgrades is garbage. With the best jetpacks you can fly indefinitely on almost any planet regardless of gravity.
I would love to know which skills you want to get level up first, what combos you want to create and what what kind of builds you want to... build.

Right now, playing a Suppressed Shotgun Ninja. Because it is ridiculous.
I used to be resentful towards Starfield because I'm a big Elder Scrolls fan and dying for ES6, but it seems like Bethesda has worked hard on this game and I can't wait to dive in
Exactly how I felt but I've played 15 hours so far and it scratches that same itch!
I've been an Elder Scrolls fan since Daggerfall. (1993)
I got the premium upgrade for 30 bucks so I could play early via Gamepass yesterday. I have about 18 hours in so far. This one is special. It is hands down the greatest RPG Bethesda has ever created. It is their magnum opus.
@nunyabusiness9013 I was only born in 98, but I've played all of them since from Arena and forward. I have to agree... gaming has felt like a chore to me with a lot of games recently but I was a kid lost in a new world again with this
@nunyabusiness9013 okay, now that is cap. It's good, but it's not the best game they've ever made lmao
That's character growth man, I hope you love it!
1:00:39 Gas giants are really useful for fully surveying/scanning for leveling up the Scanning skill! Since you can't land on them anyway, just scanning from space counts just the same as going to a planet with a dozen each plants and animals and resources and manually scanning them all.
You can't walk on gas? 0/10 worst game ever.
@@rustyjones7908what’s funny is someone genuinely complained about that
@@alexandertheprotogen6180 I know lol
Great idea! I didn't even think of that
That's super useful, thanks! Do you know if the data from gas giants can be sold in the same way that regular ground survey data can?
If you want to rank up weight lifting fast go to a planet with low gravity, have your boost pack skill (rank 2 or above works really well with this), start printing then jump and start using your boost pack as much as possible while moving forward. While in the air you will use no stamina, but it still counts your sprinting distance because once you hit the ground you will start sprinting again so it’s active while in the air. That skill can be maxed out really fast that way. Preferably this works if you’re on a higher place to use your boost pack more. I did this in some canyons and got my ranks up extremely fast
So... Straight up DBZ Gravity training.
@@Rais-Codexyes. 😂 there are a lot of skills that low gravity just makes super easy to train. Jet pack being another
interestingly, if you're over-encumbered, running or sprinting at all, even in midair, uses stamina
@@wheresmymuffins I forgot to mention that, thank you!
congrats on destroying having fun
24:17 resources are only tracked if you go into a crafting station and press the track resources button on a recipe/upgrade. resources like adhesive, copper, etc.
you can track resources from the outpost menu
Ahhh that explains it. i have done jack all crafting
Yeah I facepalmed on that one. Bethesda has had resource tracking in both Skyrim and Fallout.
It functions exactly the same way as rank 2 of scrapper in fallout 4.
I have Particle Beams on my ship, so I couldn't rank up that skill in the simulator because that ship doesn't have PBs on it
The scanning skill is a huge time saver just to not have to butt hump everything you need to scan.
I just kill/ harvest them anyway (unless they're absolutely docile... and even sometimes than, I just hate chasing beetles around) but it's a cool skill I guess.
@@pdraggy I used beetles for my stealth kill requirements 😊
@@chrismac7416lmao I just did the same thing
Tracked resources is when you hit the track button while upgrade at the research station or weapon building station, etc.
It puts a magnifying glass next to item that you’re tracking while in a store.
I've seen a lot of people talking about whether the frame rate being locked to 30fps on Xbox is an issue and for me I must say at first it seemed a little jarring as I'm used to playing at 60fps but after an hour or so of gameplay my eyes had fully readjusted and it seems smooth as a spacers brain
Unlocking trees by performing tasks seems like a really good idea for natural progression players. Literally rewarding you for the way you play.
And TONS more.
and it teaches (ie forces) you to use the functions of the game that will help you (because of your lvl up) as well!
You can also buy back the stolen goods if you want and they won’t have the stolen icon anymore
yeah, if unsure if a ship I hijacked has contraband I missed or not I just take it and sell it at a docking yard (like the stroud-strickland w/e one in the system nearby The Den- Wolf- or Dene... w/e orbiting Mars) as there's no contraband scan.
Unlocking Gymnastics 2 requires fall damage, but unlocking Gymnastics 3 requires kills in micrograv. I'm not sure which other skills change their requirements as they rank up. But, it stands to reason that there may be other skills with variable requirements like this.
Boost assault training is fire damage/knockdown enemies/ deal 500 damage
Outposts management I think it might be engineering 😊
1:23:18 "...have not incountered any ship that has a missile system that locks on"
ALL SHIPS that have missiles can lock on to targets.
50:18 -- Bethesda really made that the "Crippling" icon, huh...
1:10:00 you can use the flight simulator at the vanguard HQ at mast to fight waves of ships that will count towards this skill
Edit: this applies to all the skills that include destroying/damaging ships
That is a great idea!
The serpentis system is really good too. Lots of spacers and va’runs will come attack you.
Yep they did this in Elder Scrolls and Fallout as well.
Fallout new Vegas and kotor 2 really did this well…
In 140 hours I’ve had it come up for me exactly once with my starship design skill.
Try it you will live it too
1:23:00 missles do lock on even in the first ship you just have to hold target long enough.
I am blown away that he didn't realize this with "140 hours played"
@@Shadowrak probably unloads everything the minute he gets into combat... like a noob xD
Appreciate the deep dive, this is by far the best one ive found. I have a lot to consider before i finally get to jump into it tomorrow night.
Even now at like lvl 40 I'm still having to pick between like 10 skills I want to either get or rank up.
he missed a number of tricks people have developed since release (so he gets a pass lol) but man am I impressed even half a month after release, great job!
Missiles will lock on. You can see it in your HUD. Especially if you have 1 rank in targeting ship systems.
My man, lots of Starfield content pumping out right now but you’re videos are always my favorite. Quality and passion is noticed
It feels like a good amount, but the amount per hour is low compared to getting kills or even digipicking something.
@@julianolotero6600Persuade was the first skill i got to rank 4, even without savescumming. Depends on what you're doing I guess.
@kiiwikiori7542 wow, that is surprising.
Can't wait to see a Curating Curious Curiosities or Starfield detective video
I’ve definitely had some enemies bleed out and as far as I’m aware, it’s just like when they’re on their hands and knees, but you’re getting a red hit markers till they die. I’ve also noticed the enemy bleeding affect while using shrapnel grenades. The only problem with it is it seems random. I can never get it to trigger on purpose, but I have definitely noticed getting hit markers while I’m hiding behind cover actively reloading, not being able to hit an enemy
“You’re not gonna be punching ships”
Watch me.
If you want to rank up persuasion fast go to any bar that has crew members for hire (i did this on New Atlantis) and do their dialogue options to decrese their hiring price(usualy picking the option that talks about not that many jobs avaliable worked for me)
Do you have to hire them after the persuasion check or can you just get them to drop the price and then walk away?
This sounds like a good idea, I’ll have to try it out
Pro tip...piloting skill, max it out, then mount turrets on your ship.
Can confirm, i have spent most of my first play through crafting and base building. it’s pretty handy imo but not the best skill.
If you want to level up piloting, go to new atlantis, start the quest to join the vanguards and you canfarm the pilot simulator.
Or just fight in space 🌌
Holy cow im so stoked to get a series x just to play this!!
Needed this ngl camel you gonna get a big old smooch
Horrific 😭
I don’t want a sneaky character but the Bethesda stealth archer build really just works in all their games.
because combat has always been terrible before
here its actually good (at a range obviously melee is dog water this is a bethesda game)
With how late into the physical tree to get the stealth damage bonus’s, it’s not gonna be a great starting playstyle .
@@christinaedwards5084 Nope, it's pretty viable. Although I am using a chameleon helmet, so that helps.

I haven't bought this game yet but videos like this help me make decisions. 👀
Id say dont except a full space sim but more of a true space rpg where you can do what you want, you just need to have the priority to go for what you want, but id say its a great fun time for me personally and id recommend it if you wanna put alot of time into something similar to fallout in space with more depth

Can't wait for the character build video version of this!
I just imagine being an explorer cook hunting for all sorts of exotic ingredients for dishes to be served. I simply can’t wait
Anyone else notice that the crippling skill patch has someone taking AN ARROW TO THE KNEE 😂
Thanks for the breakdown of the skills. Can't wait for the hours long Starfield lore videos.
Hey @Camelworks just FYI on the scavenger perk if playing in PC, when in ent crafting or research menu you can hit “X” on keyboard to select items to track.
Ahhh so that’s where it is! To be honest I haven’t even looked at crafting
Track resources is in the work bench menus, makes it far easier to know what you need to purchase or find
You can also use it for stealth missions where you don’t want to kill/alert people
You can level up the payload skill easily by just switching to a low cargo ship. All your cargo will automatically get transfered to that ship even if its more than the ship cargo
"Anyway, that was 4 hours of me recording."
(Standing ovation) THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!!
My Skyrim joke about the lockpicking was “the lockpicking skill tree- when wiping your ass with perk points just isn’t enough.”
Looks like Starfield found a way to get me to invest in a couple levels of lockpicking.
24:31 tracking resources is set when in crafting or research stations. If you need items, you can hit "track" and it'll mark items you're trying to obtain in inventories.

Thanks so much for this in-depth description of all the skills. You put in work and I commend you sir💯🍻
Surveying is great for loot goblins for highlighting loot from further away or hidden, and for snipers to find targets from further away without taking too long finding everyone.
thank you this video has helped me very much I'm going for a sniper build and didn't realize what perks would be useful until your video !
That assualt boost training is gonna be awesome to get
Yep saving this for future references. Timestamps are a godsend. Thank you for your service.
To track resources, you select them while in the research menu and it marks them in the pickup menu with a magnifying glass
1:24:12 With so many ship weapons systems and skill for each it's really dumb that there is in-game category label for what each one falls under
Camel *_in space!_* Was inevitable that you'd cover Starfield but I'm happy regardless.
When you mod equipment or research you can click to track the resources each one requires. It's super helpful
That surveying zoom..."I didn't use it to any beneficial capacity" -- Proceeds to zoom in on Andreja's....assets. lol
Alot of people crap on the game but it's been so fun for me, always looking forward to what I'm gonna do next
The chapters of this video are a life long masterpiece
I've accepted the fact I will forever be overencumbered 😂😢
Use mods man
@@Rising._.Thunder UPDATE. I am no longer encumbered, after painfully crawling everywhere I realized it wasn't worth it but I am now a master of inventory management and I'm rich so I don't need to pick to stuff up
The arrow to the knee icon for crippling got me rolling 😂
Thanks for all the hard work, this is great.
That sounds so cool! Time to grind botany
@fiegalicious3715 hopefully it will be added in an update or mod.
You can also get skill points from Quests...Spoiler Alert:
I got a tier 4 social skill(manipulation) from Ryujin final quest without having to meet the tier 4 criteria.
tracked resources is when you say need titanium to build something you can "track" it so that when you come up upon junk that has titanium a small magnifying glass will show up next to the item. I can't wait to become the sneaky, persuasive chef forcing people to surrender to my space equivalent of a 1978 Ford Pinto!
Another great thing about persuasion is when you’re hiring your crew, you can talk down new hires by 50% by telling them that their original price is not worth it
I loveeeeee how it feels like training to upgrade a lot of the physicality related skills
Thank you so much the most useful guide yet.
I’m very happy to hear you found this useful, that is the whole point after all 😌
I actually love the skill tree!
It forces us to not rush through perks, making the decision process more heavy.
Boost pack training is a must have on every build I feel like..
I have the first level of training and so far the boost pack is only helpful to me on low grav worlds. Not essential, just convenient. On high grav worlds like Jemison the boost pack doesn’t do much of anything.
There's no level cap and your perks/levels carry over into new game plus. If you play long enough you will eventually max every skill in the game.
@_.51
The basic jetpack you get at low levels without upgrades is garbage. With the best jetpacks you can fly indefinitely on almost any planet regardless of gravity.
@@nunyabusiness9013 cool, that will be fun.
@@nunyabusiness9013it’s a Bethesda game, you really don’t want to level that far with one character.
I see new game + being a massive pain in the ass
Thank you for this one. I can only imagine the time it took to put together
