I used to have similar wheel problems with a John Deere belly mower. Eventually I replaced the top stack and clip with a couple of washers and a bolt with nylock. No more wheel drops!
Agree that it’s always a good idea to use extra blocking or jacks when crawling under equipment.

I do believe I can get more sharpenings out of them. We are up to 12 inches since the beginning of last week.

Hi Andrew. Lawn looks great. I have nearly same mower deck. 3/4 black iron pipe for the spacers. Make them the size you want. I also use metal coat hangers for clips because I didn’t think of welding rod. Good idea. And mowing with air and power steering is a wonderful thing isn’t it…..

Andrew, Andrew, Andrew. What are you doing? You've got me sitting here watching grass being cut. Somehow, someway, that's supposed to be about as exciting as watching the grass grow.
As I sat here, eyes glued to the screen, I muttered to myself, "Am I really watching a man mow his field?"
Well, yes. Yes I am. Somehow, it's therapeutic. And you even managed to teach me something. I'm so glad I found your channel, it makes me smile.
When I was growing up in south Florida, we called birds that looked like that, cattle egrets. As the cows would munch their way through the grass, those cattle egrets were right there to scarf up whatever little buggy critters the cows were chasing out of the grass. Now, I was observing, very carefully, the birds you've got there. They seem to be a different species than the cattle egrets I saw in my childhood.
What you've got there, is a closely related subspecies called the tractor egret. This species has developed the ability to identify, and locate, tractors with mowing rigs. They can sense, and home in on this specific kind of tractor from over a mile away. This ability to sense and home in on man made machinery is found in a few other bird species. I'm sure you've seen seagulls following garbage trucks at a dump. Them suckers are like flies on poop!
I also found myself paying close attention to your shots of the mower behind the tractor. I kept expecting to see a cloud of pink mist with a plume of white feathers suddenly appear behind the mower. No such luck.
I noticed your wellhead in a few of the shots. Holy geezless man! That thing's just standing all by it's lonesome, out in the big wide open! I'm surprised it hasn't taken a lightning strike. That's another reason to get a shady shelter over that thing. I mentioned before that I've got one of those metal carports over my well. It's metal so it will work as a Faraday cage in a lightning strike. I've also taken a 21' section of top rail and attached it to the end of the carport. It's bolted to the corner leg of the carport, and runs straight up into the air. I've rigged it so I can run my flag up the pole. So it looks like I've put up a flag pole. It's really a lightning rod. I've got the pole, and the frame of the carport, bonded to a copper ground rod.
Oh, by the way, that is the biggest pressure tank I've ever seen on a residential well. Wow. My tank is maybe ⅓ that size.
Based on the topography, I'm assuming you're in central/north central Florida. Watch out for them hurricanaders. Stay safe.

Those pens falling off is such a common problem and I’ll kinds of implements and mower decks. I found that the pens with the square retainer piece tend to hold much better. If it’s something you don’t need to adjust regularly using the wire arrive even use bolts with no lock retainers or just tack welded them so they don’t come out at all. It’s definitely a pain. Someday somebody’s going to invent something incredibly simple that resolves all of this and is still easy to pop on and off and adjust but doesn’t get ripped off when using it. Until then I guess we’re just gonna have to deal with it on our own. 😂
We called that jack a widow maker, broke jaw three places, my son said I launched three feet in the air. Good vids

I'm glad you use the farm jack as a safety measure I don't want to read anything about Andrew having a Bushhog falling on him while changing blades. I've always call those white birds following you as Cow birds. Now if that's not a technical name I don't know one😊

With what I saw of the layout of your land, in the video, you could have a nice grass landing strip Then, more than just birds could take off and land on your homestead.
You have a John Deere tractor and I only have a John Deere push mower it takes like 8 pulls to start but it has been running for 13 years now
I'm the proud owner of a 2004 John Deere L110 lawn tractor. The hour meter malfunctioned many years ago and is stuck on 435 hours, but it still starts and runs like new after 17 years. I've always used ethanol free fuel and change the oil way more often than needed. I still use it weekly to mow some areas where our zero-turn doesn't work very well like around our pond. I wish I had "Kelley money" and could afford a JD tractor like Andrew's to upgrade my inherited Branson 4020, but "Charles" (Charles Branson... get it?) still serves me well. This winter I'm going to give Ol' Charles a complete overhaul and fix the annoying hydraulic leaks.
Well Digital Dan, if you want Kelley money, all it takes is about 10 years of shift work. 12-16 hours a day and two weeks of every month you don't see your wife or family. It was great money and afforded me nice things, but I don't miss it.
@@TKCL I know that life... trading time for money. I covered an 18 state region (which evolved into 2/3's of the country when a co-worker left) as a sales engineer for too many years. Great money, but being gone from home every week ended up costing a marriage, a home... everything really. After about 4 years exploring "rock bottom", I managed to dig my way out of that pit with Divine help, loving parents, a few good friends, and the love of a wonderful (and faithful) woman.
I don't think I even remember what mowing is like. The drought here is so bad our grass, pastures, hayfields, etc are dying. Hay has doubled in price in the last 2 months as the drought worsens. if we could even get an inch of rain a week, or every other week to lower our fire risk it would be a blessing. it is too late for most of the crops.
I hate to hear that! We were in a drought for a while just a few weeks back, now it's flooding every day. Feast or famine
Great video Andrew, I just got through bush hogging my mother in laws 20 acres in Munford Tn, . I have a John Deere 5075E cab tractor with a MX8 brush cutter.. I find it very relaxing I think of it as Tractor Therapy> LOL

I wonder if you could tuck the top part of the factory clips that lift up under the part sticking out of the shaft when in use to keep it from lifting up and out. They might not be that limber though?

Never fails... bush hogging, mowing hay, cutting wheat, the egrets seem to have radar that tells them where to go... The cool ones for me has always been watching the hawks, ospreys, and eagles swoop down to catch mice out of the edge of the field... Hmm... how I miss tractor therapy... sitting at a desk is no fun even if it does pay the bills...

Mr. Andrew question I noticed you mow with your loader on bucket off i get it for weight, but have you come across real wet grass area and your front tractor tires creating ruts ?? I have two wet areas that I want to mow over but I'm afraid I'm going to create big ruts or even worse get stuck, and don't think lifting my loader high up is the safest. I'm trying to avoid having to us the weed waker. Any ideas would be helpful thank you
No wet spot here to worry about. I usually mow with the bucket in high grass. Without when I am mowing in tight areas.

It’s funny, I’ve got a little John Deere lawn tractor, I’ve got a pull the whole deck off by hand then flip it over to get the blades off or even sharpen them. Do you have this big old industrial mower that’s a piece of cake. Lol
I like the birds. And you got cool birds. Are used to get Robins doing the same thing, once you start cutting and they smell that cat grass they know there’s gonna be a bunch of bugs jumping around there and they come running I did leave a nice mowed path and looked back and there be a bunch of robins bouncing around in it. I don’t know for sure and I’ve never studied it as to why human beings started creating lines but I’m pretty sure it had to do with bug in pest control Not wanting a bunch of bugs and mice and snakes hanging around your house so closely

I apologize for not watching lately man I've been really really busy man between my job having a lot of load to be delivered & trying to fix my AC on my truck 🚛 which is working again. Man you ain't lying soon as that tractor come out them birds are right behind that tractor & follow you. Man Mother Nature just won't leave you alone for a minute to at least cut the grass. And you got more rain to come next week with that storm too. I'm already prepared to make a lot of load down there in Florida next week. I have the same tractor as you do, looking at 7' finish mowers. Do you prefer side discharge or rear? I know yours is a rear but just wondering if you looked the side ones.
Reason I ask is a friend of mine bought the same brand mower and he said it clumps grass up in the center real bad, wishes he had gotten side discharge. Your thoughts???
Side discharge typically requires more power due to the extra passing through and mulching of the grass. Rear discharge is easier on equipment because it's dumps everything to the rear. If you are wanting a clean cut with less clippings go with a side discharge.

Cattle egrets, huh? I've always just called them cow birds. I never see them around our place until I start mowing, and without fail; 3 of them show up. I haven't figured out if it is always the same 3 yet, but I think so. We have 10 acres, so it's not like the mowed area (about 3.5 acres) couldn't feed more of them. The internet says: "Cattle Egrets are native to Africa but somehow reached northeastern South America in 1877. They continued to spread, arriving in the United States in 1941 and nesting there by 1953." Why we're on the subject of birds, cormorants show up in our pond around this time of the year, and start eating small bluegill. It's illegal to shoot them, but our little 9 lb Pomeranian hates them "snake birds" as much as I do and tears off after them when he spots them drying their wings. It's pretty funny to watch, but effective the past 2 years. They don't hang around long. Happy Independence Day!

No hay, it's extremely cheap around here. It's going to be a pasture for animals.
@@TKCL I wish it was cheap here. I run a non-profit equine assisted therapy program for children with disabilities and it has been hard getting hay.
Wow it's 35-45 a round bale here. Price does vary for quality and type

Hit by a tornado last year and it took all the money we saved for fencing and animals to rebuild. It's always been the plan to put animals on that pasture. Its coming

I'd never break even, hay equipment is ridiculously expensive, unless you buy worn out equipment.
@@TKCL I wouldn't ever buy a new baler. Tons out there used for $5k-10k. Or, call some neighbor farmers that have the equipment and need your hay. Get 3 cuts, make a few thousand, and mow it the rest of the year. Just a thought.
Hay is extremely cheap here, it would take years to get my money, time and wear/tear paid for.

Guy could be making money off of all that land and instead he is wasting money mowing it. Hell even leasing it to a neighbor for hay would be a better alternative if you are not going to use the damn land to produce anything. Guy could be raising 10,000 chickens in a space like that but Noooo I want to drive around and listen to the radio for the day....
Well since it's so simple, come on down and pay me for the grass, or better yet give me about 20 grand for all the fencing and animals. It's always easy on the outside looking in.
@@TKCL Im on the inside. I grow for a living. Costs for pastured poultry is peanuts compared to what you can sell premium product for. You offer organic pastured poultry and you can get 2-3 times what traditional producers get for their product.
You sell to the big guys or farmers markets and locals?
@@TKCL CSA subscription is 80% of our sales, the excess we take to farmers market and food bank. Ive made a deal with my compost provider and we trade out a small roll off for my waste in return for cheap compost. Every market is different. Some people sell strictly to high end restaurants, some do a mixture of restautants/ markets/ CSA/ wholesale. But the thing is there is always a demand now for organic and people want to know where their food comes from. Even my Microgreens that I grow indoors in the winter is bringing in $1000/month off online sales locally. And it only occupies 400 sq ft. There is a LOT of ways to make money these days without the huge headaches and overhead of dealing with the Corporate Middle men who are nickle and dime'ing you to death.
