- Opposite of a Zero Turn (ZTR) mower. BIG SLOW instead of small/fast. The Woods TBW12.20 is fun to operate, cuts beautifully, and allows a comfy ride without grass in the face!

The faster, better way is to mow all the trimming areas ( trees, objects) with the zero turn 1st...then you have no worries or caution areas. You can just mow and go..
I thought what he did worked just fine.
Tim, do you think Christy would like the joystick operated zero turn mower by Country Clipper better than the standard twin-stick operation?
We just bought the bush hog version of this mower at work.. “TDC-1200” the minimum rating is for a 40hp and under and I mowed 8 hours straight on Friday with a 2038r no problem at all at roughly 5mph.. the field I mowed was 12” high and thick.. mowed it down to 2” high in one pass with no clumping .. I was blown away!
I had the 12' Frontier version behind a JD5220. I cut roughly 15 acres weekly. I had either the 12' batwing or a 72" zero turn. Time wise it was about the same. We have trees so I couldn't get between several of them and had to get out the zero turn anyway. The only advantage to the tractor/batwing was it was smoother and more comfortable. I have since sold it and stuck with the zero turn. In short, 12' at 5 mph vs 6' at 10 mph. The blade tip speed of the 12' was slower than the zero turn so it couldn't go any faster than about 5mph and leave a good cut..
You must have read my mind! I’ve been contemplating buying one these mowers. Now I’m sold!
Good job showing telling, and good job with the woods cutting that grass. Keep up the good work be safe see ya next time see ya bye.
The use of a wider mower seems to fit your situation Tim and the lovely yard shines when it is groomed so well!
amazing turning radius, quite a nice mower
Beautiful lawn, Awesome machine
Looks like a great way to spend a day!
What a gorgeous lawn.
LOVE watching these big mowers work for some reason .
What a nice setup! That JD 3046 tractor and a 12' woods mower are amazing. Best wishes.
What a nice unit! I’m surprised at how well it did in the tall grass with the rear discharge. Look forward to more scenarios in various situations. Blessings.
Tim. I am beyond impressed at how well you handle that tractor/mower. There’s no way I could get the lines with the overlap that straight. Awesome video.
That looks like fun!!! And within minutes, your using it like a pro.
I love that mower ! Years ago I worked partime at a sod farm mowing the sod fields with gang reel mowers . I can't remember if it was 15 or 20 feet wide and I was required to stripe it . I like the cut you get with this mower for sure .
I am so envious of your easy terrain and ground conditions! Hardly a challenge
Wow! That's awesome!! I love mowing!! I'd love to try that out! Me personally I'm in no hurry when I now I love it! Great video as always! ❤️👍
Tim im using a 84 inch woods finish mower that's an estate model my dad used it 8 years at his place put over 2k hrs on it I have it now to cut my lawn I only had to do seals and bearings some new blades it still runs great for something over 20 years old
Great video
I have mowed lawn with a 12’ BEFCO Cyclone 50 for 20 years with a Kubota L4310 cab HST
This WOODS model looks promising!
Shout out to the steady camera while keeping up with the tractor
Hi Tim & Christy. Your lawn looks awesome!!.. Your herbi & ferti applications turned out great. Neighbor Chris is probably envious over your lawn. I have this WOODS unit with the antiscalp roller accessory you mentioned. It will really help you around your pond edges from the front wheels dropping into the wash outs. The front roller will hold the deck edge up on those severe uneven areas. I use it with my Kubota L4060 cab model tractor.. Like you said, it's a joy mowing with this WOODS machine.. Plus Tim, they're made in the great state of Illinois!!.. Have a great weekend.. Another excellent video.. "Hi" to Katriel.. Hope she's doing well in DC. :o)
I have a smaller setup-1023 with a GM1048E- but as you pointed out, I much prefer the mower behind me. I don't like grass on me or the grille of my tractor. Very informative and Woods does make quality equipment.
I could watch y’all mow all day! Beautiful yard, that’s what makes it so enjoyable….. besides the two of you. Lol! Awesome video even though there is no drone views.
From what I am seeing that cut quality is excellent.
Great job and your property looks perfect!
Good Luck with the new tractor👍🚜
Grass looks great Tim. Lush and green. Kudos on the mower. I run the heavy duty version TBW144. My JD 4066 M is the tractor of choice. During peak cutting season I cut 15-18 hours a week. You are going to like the Woods. Tough equipment. Stay true to the recommended grease schedule and clean the decks after each use . Will last a very long time.
Impressive mower, it does a great job!
Great demo Tim 👍👍 keep up the good work my brother.
Hi,
For a few green seasons up in Michigan, I used to run a john deere 4720 with a 15 foot version in a city parks department. Loved using it. One draw back to it was not being able to see too well if any vehicle(s) were passing by before changing lanes to making a left hand turn. The tractor itself was an open operator station with canopy.
You’re going to love that Woods mower. Their stuff is VERY robust. At work, I pull a a Woods Brush Bull 720XL that is probably 8 or 10 years old. It is out working 40 hours per week from April to September/October. We’re very hard on our equipment due to the challenging locations we have and it is just a tank.
We do 7 acres at top speed with a 54inch belly mower on a JD445 and two 60 inch finish cut pull dehind mowers with offset arms and 12hp engines (22hp on jd445).
Way less cost, size and maintenance. Plus I can drop a deck when I don't need it.
As someone who nearly lost a 54" Toro ZT in a pond, I see batwings as very useful around water and in ditches. That looked very low stress.
Wow just wow that’s a heck of a mower
I would love this if I had your acreage. I just mow 3 ..I went from 60 "belly mower on my 1025 r to a 60" frontier pull type ..I love it..
Big lawn=big mower. We use an 16’ Toro wide area at school which gives a much finer cut, which is what we look for. Interesting part when you have mid mount mowers that large is you actually come up to the obstacles and turn into them to swing decks away. Weird feel at first. Second advantage is cutting ditches and slopes. Nice job folks!
WOW! What a mower!
Any chance to compare the Rhino 10ft batwing to the 12ft woods? The Rhino did such a great job on tough grass - hoping to see its performance on turf grass!
I don’t trim much with my batwing at all really, I do most of the trim work with my X758 or cab 3046R with their mmm.
The batwing is all I found that can get my mowing time down to something reasonable 2-3Hrs about an 1-1.5 hours with the batwing and 1-1.5 with mmm tractors.
By comparison to mow my whole place with the 54” x758 takes 13-14 hours. Which I did that last year when my batwing was down with busted PTO shaft .
That did a great job actually ! Luckily your lawn appears smooth enough and hard enough.
My 2025r seemed to highlight my un-smoothness, bias or radius tires, compared to my craftsman mower even. My 740r with better seat and tweels front and back seems smoothest yet. Far quicker too ! I do plan to smooth my rough spots one of these days.
I mow with a 10 foot Lastec 621ER behind my TC34DA. Their is nothing more satisfying than cutting your first pass with a large finish mower. The Lastec is 3pt mounted so the control is a little better than a pull behind. Cutting time is a little better than a zero turn but the main advantage is being able to go slower. The ride is much smoother with the slower tractor versus the high speed on the ZT. I like comfort these days versus having my teeth knocked loose cutting at 8mph on a ZT.
Great video guys! This is my dream setup…. Would like to see a side by side cut comparison of this and the Rhino
One other tip I wanted to share is you may want to lock your 3pt in the all the way up position.
Mine settled or I bumped the lever or something had caused my hitch drop into low mid position and turning sharp like you were doing with yours, allowed my PTO shaft to come onto contact with my I-match. That will ruin your day , sheered my PTO shaft clean off . $300 and two weeks later I had repaired and going again. Woods said August which was going to be a 4 month wait and cost about a $1000.
Thx for advice!
I think batwing mowers are so cool.
Hi sir. You are good job. Lawn very nice. Lot working. Thank you. Janice
Mowing and state park we didn't get a finish mower but did get a 15 foot batwing brush hog which scalp's I bit easier but being able to mow at 7 or 8 mph has saved us almost 2 days of mowing time
Nice, time saver as well, I won't mind having 1 for doing my mowing as well, but I need 1 for a little Johnny
That’s a nice mower Tim
Great job with the audio and editting, really dealt with the wind noise well. I can't imagine running a giant mower like that. I'd want to run a haybine and make bales XD
Great video to watch instead of mowing my lawn.
Quite impressive! TY
I like that mower system
That’s a really nice cut! As tall as the grass is, not to mention damp, not so sure you could get away from the clumping. How long did it take overall or is it too difficult to tell because of filming? Happy Sunday, have a great day!!
I use a Kubota L6060 cab and rear finish mower to cut my grass. I have a zero turn but only use it for the trimming which is not a lot. I much prefer the cab, ac , radio, air seat and most importantly no dust over the speed of the zero turn. Also the rear discharge deck of the rear finish mower leaves a better cut quality in my opinion over the side discharge zero turn
Really nice mower. That'll cut mow time down a lot. Good luck with the drone license. To bad you couldn't use it on your own land.
The wing mowers are the best at mowing around lakes, ponds and ditches because the tractor stays on dry land. Tim, please show us the underside of the mowers. I would like to see the blade setup and how much grass was left under the deck. Thanks.
Love the video, really enjoyed seeing a batwing finish mower on the channel.
I mow 8-10 acres weekly with my woods / Frontier 17ft. I am sure probably saw it on GTT.
I pull it with either my 5115M or 4066R . I can mow 5-7mph . I did fight the clumping a lot last year ,
so ordered the mulching kit from woods late last season didn’t receive it till mowing season was over.
Deere did offer mulching blades for it, which only made the cut and clumping worse.
Hopefully adding the rest of the mulch kit which I had to order that from woods since Deere didn’t offer the whole kit.
Anxious to try the new mulching kit out this season .
If you decide to add a mulch kit to yours, you may want to go ahead and get yourself that cab 4066R, mulch kits generally do need more power to keep from choking or stalling the tractor.
Woods makes the best mowers in the industry. I work for a Deere dealer, came from Kubota and we also sell Woods rotary cutters over Deeres.
I remember woods having lots of problems with their bat wings. Is that fixed now?
Tim really like the mower. But my comment: You’ve really got your pond looking great.
Looks like you are cutting quite a bit there. I'd raised the deck another 1.5 but hey, a test is a test! Lol. Added this video to my mowing wishlist!
Yep. We like to cut at 3.5”, but woulda been better had we cut at 4.5”, then waited a day or so before cutting to 3.5
I run a 6' Landpride rear discharge behind my GC2300. From what I can tell from the video I have very similar results so far as the power ratio, the discharge quality etc. Also the big one, the grass not blowing in your face. The belly mower is in semi permanent storage!
If I didn’t have a Deere auto connect, there is no way I would use a mid mount. The Deere auto connect is transforming!
@@TractorTimewithTim That's a valid point. There was no such thing back in 2006. SSQA also was pretty much unknown in the sct market. It didn't bother me at that time to drag a mower out but now with a recent 3 point quick attach I'm happy to avoid it.
A cab tractor would be great in the winter also.
Impressive
You have the largest 1, 2, and 3 series of tractor. I support Tim; a 4066R is required!
I've run a 18' (3-72" decks) when I was cutting commercially. Draw bar was 2-3 feet longer as well. Biggest draw back to finish bat wings, especially in a commercial setting is having to remove all the blades at least once a week, sharpen and balance them all and reinstall unlike a traditional bat wing where you can just sharpen the blades on the deck with a grinder. They might have changed a good bit from the last time I ran one about 16 years ago is the crazy amount of grease points. Doesn't look like you have any dips or holes except around your pond but do watch those. We would have guys bending and/or breaking a deck spindle at least once a week do to fairly rough graded land. With around 2,500 acres of land (about half of what the military installation actually has) to manicure on a monthly basis, those machines definitely got a work out.
Also on a side note, weed eat around obstacles before mowing. It'll make it a lot easier than trying to get up super close and possibly causing damage to the equipment.
Hang n there Tim you will have a cab tractor. My wife made me buy my tractor with a cab. I love her. ❤️
Surely makes the mowing job in a must shorter time.
This attachment puts me in mind of the lawn company’s finishing mower they used to mow my middle school with. The tractor they used was a New Holland 545D with a 4in1 bucket. Speaking of New Holland what ever happened to Holly the New Holland y’all used to teach folks about used tractors?
The dealer sold it. We had borrowed it from our local Deere dealer who had traded for it.
Great video. Christy great job getting these shots. I thought you were using your drone here. You were a really good job keeping up with the mower.👍
Thank You! -Christy
That mower is awesome like times 3 Tim make some wood blocks that Kristy can slip on to help her reach the pedals lol just a thought that might work?? God bless stay safe
Rather then having stones around your beds, I use Round up and have real black dirt about 1 foot out and it's a lot easier to mow. The round up keeps all weeds out and looks really nice.
It should be against the law for two people to have as much fun as you do! I am impressed by its cornering. You should expect a call from Aaron (of VenTrac) ready to show you their latest attachment. 😅
I like that mower but I love that tractor. It makes me want to trade my 1025 in for the 3046.
just a hard earned lesson for me and a suggestion for you, mulch those trees, especially if fruit trees! Salute
I used to run the 15' version on a JD 5510 with turf tires. Amazing how much ground you could cover.
I wish I could afford that style of mower to mow with
The fertilizer worked !!
what a nice rig!':D EDIT:...many have a 4R on it and it is a great idea...Christy: NO! That was so funny!😂 the only one you guys need is a 4 series than would have all of them (1-5) that you be great right😂 i think it would be great :)
In my opinion it beats the zero turn , mainly because it's a wider path of cut for a much fast cut , reduce time and fuel use ....... good video
@TTWT very nice estate you have
Because of the rear discharge design of the decks and not being able to create the lift of a zero turn deck I would try using mulching blades if they're available to knock down on clumping since you dont need the lift created by standard blades
Just imagine the quality of the audio, if you just had a cab. The wind looks brutal.
Woods has been around for years! Make good equipment!
Off topic question, how is the shelter logic tarp holding up, and can we see a follow up video regarding that?
This was a good real world test for the mower. I have to wonder if the mower and a gear drive tractor (like the 5075) would've struggled in the real tall section though. My guess is it would be fine, but have to use the lowest possible gear the whole time.
Woulda been fine with a larger hp gear drive machine.
I run a fm4216 (16 ft) 72” decks, land pride batwing behind a 50 horse every day for 10 hours a day. Don’t be scared to go back over your areas it’ll look a lot better.
I mow a 2100' x 100' turf airstrip with my Woods RD990-X pulled by a Kubota MX5400 with a cab. The finish mower really needs replacing, so your video convinced me to order the TBW12.20. One big catch: the lead time on orders right now is ONE YEAR! The dealer said Woods usually quotes worst-case basis, so maybe I'll get it a little earlier in next year's mowing season! I figured the batwing will be ideal for the airstrip - long, straight passes with zero obstructions and 4 rounds and I'm done! :)
Where are you located?
@@TractorTimewithTim In the head of the beautiful Sequatchie Valley in mid-east Tennessee. about 50 miles north of Chattanooga.
Hmm…that would be a haul. Was thinking of bringing our TBW12.20 down for a test run :-)
@@TractorTimewithTim Yes, that would be quite a haul! :}
Well, I really lucked-up! My dealer just got in a TBW12.20 and the customer who ordered it had bought a batwing rotary cutter while waiting on the Woods finish mower. He decided to stay with the rotary cutter and declined to take delivery of the TBW12.20, so yesterday the dealer offered it to me! That cut nine months off my wait time! The airstrip's grass is barely high enough to cut and growing season is over but at least I can try it out once before winter. Of course, the best part is that it'll be all ready to go when that fescue starts jumping in the spring!
Rear discharge zero turn can’t be beat on grass cutting.
I pull my swisher 60" behind my kioti with it's 60" deck. So 10' at a time. Swisher has a 13.5 single cyl. So it's strong but eco. On gas
Put you a stick with a rope hanging down on the ends of the stick on the front of tractor both sides so you can see how far out the deck cuts to make the most efficient passes without having to look back..Kinda like a maker they have on a farm corn planter
I wish every mower was rear discharge. I have a little riding mower, a John Deere L1 30 and I always have to make sure I’m aiming away from cars and structures and places I just don’t want grass to blow and it’s a huge pain. I could put a mulching cover on there but then it clogs up if the grass is thick or wet and it’s just not worth the hassle. A rear discharge would pretty much solve it.
That does seem pretty maneuverable for how wide it is and it seems to handle the longer grass easily so forfeit forfeit from. Using that on a huge lawn if your tractor had a cab and an AC would be really nice as well.
I like it.
They make rear-discharge zero turn mowers, just an fyi.
If you want a smooth riding zero turn mower, try a ferris. They might even have an air ride seat option for some of the higher end models.
My 2120 ford new Holland has no trouble pulling it in 3 main transmission and 2 second transmission it has a shuttle shift on the column for forward neutral and reverse.
A big lawn is nice, but after growing up mowing an acre and a half yard with a 7 horse 32" cut riding mower I have gotten to wanting a smaller yard, and fencing in the area for livestock or making hay. I would rather turn the grass into edible meat than composting clippings.
Great video! Woods makes good equipment.
I see you removed the loader on your tractor Tim. What is the advantage of removing the loader arms and not just the bucket? I just remove my bucket and leave the loader arms on my 33R.
Better visibility. Lighter weight on front tires. Easier to maneuver around obstacles. Try it! You’ll like it!
Sign me up for a test drive to mow your grass. The woods mower looked like it did a great job on the tall grass, and you can always go back with the Zero turn and do your trimming. But then a bigger tractor would be better 🤣 too.
Yep. Kinda fun!
I like how ya tried to be sneaky and hint about another tractor. I’m just jealous….I don’t have any tractors yet. I’m trying for the equivalent of the 1025 or the one up.
Mow twice a week with that and it will look as good as a zero turn.
It dose a really good job if you do not let it get that tall it's to tall to pick up what you run over 2 to 3 inches taller it work good.
That works very nice. And yes the ride would be much nicer. I have a 1951 Ferguson tractor with a 6’ rear discharge finish mower and it is so much nicer ride than my garden tractors.
One thing thou, I would not want to be behind that 12’ mower on the gravel driveway. Did it pick up many rocks and throw them out. ?
Zero.
I’d love to see Johnny x hooked up to this mower. 😂
