We have, but even they are stumped. It would be easier if we had a squeeze chute but that's a little further in the future for us at this point. Thank you for watching! :-)
It's too bad you don't have a local vet with a traveling squeeze chute like doc Parsons. Have you called him (or Dusty) yet? I know I would. I grew up raising Angus cattle and Suffolk sheep and they are able to be tamed, unlike bison. It's a shame they just don't trust people enough to let people help them. That said, even tamed my cattle and sheep still had ornery moments. A steer once ran me over and broke my collar bone, a ram ran at me from about twenty yards away but I had no where to hide so I stood my ground and let him run at me. I sidestepped at the last moment but a moment too late as instead of missing me, he ran right between my legs, picked me up as he ran and slammed us both into the fence. He staggered as I jumped off and was able to get the hose I was watering the trees with and hit him with a hard blast of water as he set to charge again. I just kept blasting him with the water and he ran away from it into allow me to get up on my porch and inside my house. From then on I made sure I always had a charged water hose line with me when I was outside while he was not locked in his pen... That said Bison are different... I doubt that even if you bottle fed them that they would ever be trustful enough to allow more the scratches yours allow you to give them. I hope Ruby gets well soon!
Run some pex underground? Our frost line is 4ft in pa dont know what yours is ! Put a heat tape on the riser to the water tank !! Also a drain back at your starting point ! Pex is cheap ! Heat tape is also not bad ! 😮
I was thinking Pex too. Better than PVC. We have to go down minimum 6 foot in this area. But I've got a short straight line between the house and the garage without any obstacles in between so it shouldn't be too hard. Of course, now that I said that out loud… Lol.
Strong Prayers for Ruby. Have you tried to give her a vitamin B boost? I think that's what it is called. Thoughts and Prayers. Love and Blessings. Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘
❤🎉 I'm glad in my area of Wisconsin it didn't get quite THAT cold, you can keep it lol. Their coats are so insulating, do the Bison show any negative reaction to the cold at all ?? Thanks for sharing... 🦬❤️🙂🇺🇲🎄
That seems to be the most common suggestion. If we got lucky and were able to get a fecal sample, we could make more of a determination. But it has also been suggested that at least one other animal would also be afflicted. But we are going to try some feed containing fenbendazole and see if that helps. The only other real possibility is a mineral deficiency which we are also working on. And it is possible that she had a miscarriage…
@@blackaxeranch I hope it wasn't a miscarriage where she was unable to expel the baby and other matter from the pregnancy. I would think though she would have a discharge if that was the case but not necessarily if it was early in the term... I pray she recovers soon.
I was also thinking if they like to scratch like cows do maybe getting those scratching post that look like they belong in the car washes what do you think of that idea?
Hello back! There is still a small possibility, but at this point, we are thinking not likely, unfortunately. :-( Sapphire, on the other hand, seems to be heading in that direction! Lol.

Another great video and as always, thanks! Hope Ruby recovers and I know you're working with a bison vet/doc to see what's up with her. All my best

Keep us posted and keeping you all in my thoughts.
Will do! Thank you!!! :-)

Hello!! :-)
Strong Prayers for Ruby. Have you tried to give her a vitamin B boost? I think that's what it is called.

Thank you! We have increased supplements for her. Basically like a multivitamin boost. I think she will be ok, it will just take time. 🤞
@@blackaxeranch That is great. Will keep Ruby and all of you in my prayers. 🤗
On the cold days I'm sure you wish you had a heavy coat like the bison have.
Lol, that sure would come in handy!! :-)

None whatsoever! They are nice and toasty warm with all that hair and they would be out playing even if it was -40°! :-)
Canyou built a frame around feeder and leave the feed tray up so Thor cant destoy it
What does the vet think it is? Worms maybe?

Thank you! I haven't seen any indication of a miscarriage. But then there just might not be any. I think we need another round of dewormer

It's a good idea. Ive seen several large bison ranches use them. It helps them get rid of that itchy winter coat come Spring. :-)
