We are a veteran-owned startup bison ranch in Aitkin County, Minnesota. We love bison! And we want to share ours with you!
We are new to bison ranching so keep that in mind when watching our day-to-day activities as we manage these amazing animals. We will definitely make mistakes! But, hopefully we will learn from them along the way.
Our plan is to expand slowly; adding a few new animals each year. And by doing so we hope to expand upon our knowledge and experience as well as our ability to share those experiences with others.
So enjoy our videos! Watch them, share them and please feel free to leave us a comment!

I was wondering if Thor did his deed with the ladies, glad you answered that for me. I hope to see lil red dogs in the spring. Now the 2 new bisons, tootsie roll and princess are they too young to breed?
Thank you for sharing. Thoughts and Prayers. Love and Blessings. Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘
Thank you for watching, Doris!!! :-)
@@blackaxeranch 👍
Super excited for you to have red dogs. Can't wait!!! Thanks for sharing!
1 would be nice...2 would be awesome! Thank you! :-)
When I saw that second mud area when you were heading to get the dirt, I thought that is a spot you could get stuck in. Glad you didn't actually get stuck, but it took a few tries to find the right spot with the extra load in the bucket. When they rub the bark off the tree does it harm the tree?
For a second I thought I was in trouble in the mud, lol. It can harm them. Some are pretty resilient but they have killed some of the trees unfortunately. :-(
Great video thanks for sharing I know u ready for some callves
We sure are! Can't wait! Lol
Good afternoon!!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Good afternoon from Minnesota! :-)
Great Work on the hay shop!!! Gorgeous Animals!!, 🤗❤️👍🙋🏻♀️
@@kimfrommn7162 thank you! We've made a lot more progress since then! But still got a lot more to go, lol!
what would you have done if that porcupine shot his quills at one of the bison? You can't take it to the vet or can you? Or are the bison hides thick enough where the quills won't penetrate? Thanks. Did you play with Lincoln Logs when you were a child, because you sure are doing a great job with the larger size model. Take care Black Ranch Family until next time.
We would have to have the vet come to us. The worst place to get the quills would be in the nose. And since they stick their noses into everything to get a whiff...that would be a nose full of quills! I did play with Lincoln logs, lol, but evidently not enough to satisfy my building capacities! But I sure am making up for it now! Thank you for watching our videos, we appreciate it very very much! Have a good rest of the week!
Good morning !!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Good morning!!! :-)
WOW that Porcupine was a bit close. Great progress. Thank you for sharing. Thoughts and Prayers. Love and Blessings. Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘
Closer than we would have liked! Lol. But at least he made it out in one piece! :-)
@@blackaxeranch 👍
Ha, a porcupine, you don't see that everyday. Great progress on the building. Thanks for another video!!!
Haven't seen one in a while...certainly not in with the bison! Lol!
Happy Labor Day. There has definitely been a few hard rains and wind in the last week throughout the state.
Sure has. Then followed by beautiful weather. Typical Minnesota, lol!
Happy holidays Great video thanks for sharing my friend
Happy Labor Day! Thank you for watching!
@@blackaxeranch ur welcome 🙏
Happy Holidays, Is snow coming soon? and when are you going to work on the roof? and is the barn only for bale hay only?
Happy Labor Day! I've seen September snow before, so it certainly isn't out of the question, lol. Although we've had some absolutely beautiful weather lately. The roof should get started in the next couple of weeks. Got to put metal lathe in between the logs so I can put the chinking in place. I've been putting some dirt fill inside as a base for the crushed rock. It will be for baled hay only, but we will also keep our various grains out there as well. :-)
You need another feed trough
Very much so! It's on the to-do list for sure!
You should try to get some of Dusty bakers bison
That would be something! But man, that would be a long way to haul them! Lol.

I enjoyed the video very much. Everything is so beautiful, your family, your property, the fowls, the trees, the sky and of course the bison. What I wouldn't give to live there. Hi guys! You’re doing an excellent log mount on your building! Your bison look great, too! I noticed you are a veteran. What service were you in? So glad the rain stopped for you, to enjoy being outside again!
@@cynthiamazzoli7241 thank you! I was in the Air Force for 6 years. :-) We are definitely glad the rain eased off… We are still getting a few storms here and there, but nothing like back in June and early July!
what beautiful chickens and roosters you have. Never seen such a variety of colors and features.
@@cassac103 thank you! Well, we do like the smaller Bantams, and a lot of the time it's blind luck what color you get because all the chicks look the same. But we do enjoy the colorful variety we end up with! :-)
Fences are merely a visual deterrent. Trust me. I had a fliberty digit of a cow that would go under a fence, cross the dirt road. Then go under the neighbors fence and snuggle up to his bull. THEN she had the nerve to walk over to my fence and bellow for me to open the gate and let her in. I had no idea what was going on until the neighbor shot a picture of his bull and my cow. 😂😂
@@bonniedavis4601 lol, that's hilarious! For sure, the fence is more of a mental barrier than anything physical. When animals this size want out, they will GET OUT!
How's it gonna be rodent proof?
@@DaleStLouis-xb5mx well I think "rodent resistant" would be more accurate. But WAY better than storing hay under a tarp. Lol!
It didn't go far...
@@renondamyers9456 no, bison generally don't. If one gets out, they will generally stay by the fence near the other animals who are still inside. Which is lucky for us!
Another great video. A little work on the farm and some video of the bison.

You're right, you've done a lot in a short amount of time. The bison look great!! Thanks for sharing!
@@moncho99able thank you! Still got a lot to do, but the hard part will soon be over once all the logs are in place! :-)
How many round bales can you put in the new shed? I wish you would have helped me when i built my log cabin on my 10 acers in the early 70s..
If we were, maybe 6..? We will be stocking with square bales, stacked to the ceiling. Lol. How big is your cabin?
A great video as usual. Your son is very good on the tractor. He has a great teacher. Yes, there is a great process with the farm and the herd. I can imagine it is hard since you both have a full time job. Thoughts and Prayers.Thank you for sharing. Love and Blessings. Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘
@@doriskuhberger8559 thank you very much! Yes, it gets hard with the full-time jobs getting in the way, lol, but I find that a little bit here and a little bit there adds up to quite a lot of work getting done in the long run. :-)
