    I like Matt Aspland's comment about how they make everything for free, which is the awesome part... but it's not that they don't expect anything in return: they DO expect thousands and thousands of enthusiast creators to learn it, and when creating commercial projects using the engine, they will make a profit - a well deserved one :)

    • @WilliamFaucher
      @WilliamFaucher  2 роки тому +13

      Well, that only applies to commercial INTERACTIVE projects. You can make commercial projects without paying a penny to Epic :) Great point though!

      @@WilliamFaucher The big thing about Unreal's business strat is... they want more Unreal devs. That's it. More unreal devs means that the engine is more attractive for large scale commercial projects, meaning more revenue for Epic.
      To be fair, this is a win-win-win situation for Epic, devs and companies, so can't complain too much.

    We've been using it in previs/postvis for a while. Not all client want to pay for it because it is a different way of working and ultimately more expensive. But as the tools get better and Epic shifted gears towards VFX, it'll become a lot easier/cheaper. Sometimes the client just needs "chess pieced geo" for framing and continuity, other times they want a full shot from start to finish to reference as they go into finals. Different tools for different jobs, It's a lot of fun though and a booming side of the industry no doubt.

    Great video and I agree with those creators, very excited to learn unreal 5 and see how it pushes the graphics industry forward. On the other hand it does scare me a bit, we are reaching levels of realism I could have only dreamed of as a kid. The reason it concerns me is because deepfakes or fakes in general will soon be indiscernible from reality, potentially opening up a floodgate of misinformation, false news etc. Either way still super enthusiastic about the tech but surprised no one is talking about this more!

I've never had the money to go to a school and learn filmmaking so I did it all by myself, lighting, texturing, rigging, character animations or even modeling so it was already complicated for me but tools like Unreal changed everything and broke all the barriers I had and make things very easy to use. This is the future of all artists and I'll never go back to an offline renderer ever 😂

    Hi William, hope you're planning an Unreal 5 update on your excellent video about glass / translucency / reflection you did for Unreal 4.27? I still haven't got my head around Lumen reflections verses ray trace. I've just designed the inside of a Manchester cotton mill and Unreal 5 was brilliant for the light absorbent brick with intense, but small openings for natural light. Unreal 5 doesn't seem very good for uber modern glassy architecture with lots of translucency, but maybe this is now possible with the release of Unreal 5 yesterday?

    • @WilliamFaucher
      @WilliamFaucher  2 роки тому

      That is definitely in the works soon I promise! For the moment, if you absolutely need cleaner reflections, you're best sticking with the Hardware Raytracing features and avoiding Lumen/Nanite. I'd look into the pathtracer if you need the absolute best results though.

    • @mauriceshapero7200
      @mauriceshapero7200 2 роки тому

      @@WilliamFaucher That's great thankyou - looking forward to that. Yes - path tracer is very nice, but it gives me similar results to 3ds max traditional renders. What I love about Unreal 5 is being able to endlessly move about, adding to and revising the spaces I design in real time. It's more of a design tool for me rather than generating finished images. I also show clients around their buildings on a laptop. The holy grail will be glass that looks like glass, Lumen GI and nanite detail - in real time. Maybe this is already possible with an RTX card. I've only got a 1080.

    I feel like I spent the last 20 years working on myself to get to this point, since I debuted as one of the first Artists {at least in Italy, there were 3-4 of us, I painted 60 artworks between 2001 and 2011, I have now a collection of over 70 digital paintings I'm not giving away in NFTs despite I feel like I was like one of those who "pictured" the core of what NFTs were supposed to become but seems like failing to deliver} experimenting with Digital Fine Arts...
    I started my DARTS project back in 2003, put it in stand by till 2007 when I discovered the virtual reality world of the Metaverse with joining Second Life and Now I'm here using Unreal Engine 5 since the Early Access release with a fully positive mindset about the massive potential it had and still has.
    I always felt I was completely out of my time, always projected in a 10-15 years later than my actual lifetime was. Now I see all the doors I had slammed to my face, all the laughs at the "crazy dreamer and visionary" {funny stuff... dreams... I stopped dreaming back in 2002 and dream was the Love of my life, all the rest was all about Creativity Ideas and Projects!} like it was an insult... not to mention all the opportunities missed because I couldn't convince people about what was coming and today is here making everybody so hyped 15-20 years later!
    I do believe Unreal Engine 5, for those who will have the opportunity to have the proper rig ang technology, will be not just a Gaming changer but a game-changer for what I call Digital Fine Art, art lovers, museums, art galleries, curators and whoever else does believe Art is democratic, and easily accessible to everyone and heritage of everyone, not just money-maker for an elite.
    We have the opportunity now to leave our mark like a proper legacy alive for the generations to come. Unreal Engine 5 is another stepstone and milestone of that process for dozens of new generations.
    I created DARTS in 2003 and the DARTS Movement in 2015-2017 exactly with that goal... entirely free support for artists to form a collective that redefines Art, Digital Arts and Mecenatism. Unreal Engine 5 is my tool, by natural choice, for the achievement of an entire creative community and I really hope many artists will be part of this vision, of this mission, of this movement.
    DArts Beyond Reality!
    PS: Thanks to William {but also Matt... so proud of you being hosted here!} for this video and for every outstanding video tutorials he makes.... and sorry if, not having my own UA-cam Channel and being quite unpopular {I write way too much in Twitter's Era and I always loved being underground} I took the chance of saying my own about this... Epic... tool Unreal Engine 5 is!!!

    'and im gonna stop you right there'
    I laughed out loud.
    And thanks for the reality check. VFX is a worse rabbit hole than computer programming...

    Offline rendering is important ... but after showing UE4.27 "live" interior to customers I asked them to stop using WSAD and to look at still frame for 2 minutes. They said "no, it is too ... still" :)

    Hi, im wanna switch to EU5 but it has no assets library. and Im architecture visualizer and mainly Interior designer. And lack of furniture assets scares me off.. Im now using D5 render which has dozens of assets for architects. And buying those assets cost 20bucks per sofa, its just not viable to buy those assets and go for UE. Idk what to do, i already learned ue5 thanks to you, but im basicly stuck on bridge between programs, not knowing on what sore to go.

      @WilliamFaucher  Рік тому

      If you already have the assets, you can simply import them into Unreal :)

      I'd begin with the basics! Learn how to create a small scene, render it out, and use the Unreal Reader for Nuke ;)

      Haha don't get me wrong, absolutely love Unreal and everything coming out is so exciting! But it's important to stay grounded and not get caught up in the hype with wild unrealistic expectations !

      @@WilliamFaucher Yeah totally. UE5 is superb.
      But, laying out what is does & what is doesn't is really good. You did it well.
      Epic itself won't something like this.
