I actually never commented any video before and I’m sorry if my English is not perfect as I’m Italian. I just want to say that I had the hardest time of my life last year, I lost my nephew, my health and my job because of it and I thought that was it. I follow you from a long time and you inspired me to actually take action on my situation and it help me so much to get motivated to pick up my life again. Please Michelle never stop and thank you!

So refreshing. One thing I’ve learned is that focusing too much on myself and spending too much time alone makes me MISERABLE. Which is counter to the generic self help narrative… focusing on others is where purpose and happiness truly lies. And yes of course you have to fill your own cup, but I think many of our cups are overflowing!

I think no one can “self-care” themselves into happiness. It’s meant as a small temporary energy upload so that one can spend that energy on others in the most positive way. Then happiness can flourish. But anyone trying to achieve fulfillment by focusing on themselves will only be vastly disappointed and may try to “self-care” themselves out of the emotion but inadvertently only increase the lack of fulfillment. This doesn’t necessarily apply to those going through life trauma. Get help. Even out and then move on. In currently trying to implement the moving on part from an unwanted divorce 5 years ago. But me focusing on it too much has not helped.

Omg. The fixation on feelings is the reason I stopped Daily journaling. It was making me more unhappy.
I am currently trying Morning Pages and it works way better for me. Because it is a stream of conciousness, it‘s not all about the feelings but also about random stuff popping in my head. So no dwelling on hard emotions. Thanks for validating my gut feeling! 🧡

I have followed you for ages, and you were one of the first youtubers of my productivity youtube phase a few years ago!
Since than, a lot happened, I started struggling more with self doubts, overwork and general life chaos. I started to put more and more pressure on myself. Often I used productivity and optimization videos almost as if to punish myself, comparing myself to very isolated standards and obsessing. I decided leaving this 'bubble' was necessary. You were one of the only youtubers I occasionally still checked out just to see what you are doing. 'Live admin days' was a concept that stuck to me and so did you :).
This new wave of videos is the first one that I started to consistently watch again. It is so nice seeing you come to similar realizations as me at a similar time - productivity alone doesn't make you happy...but you can productively work on your mental attitude. That how good you are at feeling proud has a higher impact on your feelings of pride for your work, than the actual work you are(n't) proud of.
Your videos are as concretely helpful as always, but with the focus on happiness and a strong mental management aspect, they are bringing so much peace and calm, long lasting motivation for me. It's great, and I feel like it is making me fall into a more sustainable motivation bubble instead of a pressure productivity bubble.
Very cool to get follow the glimpses of your life that you share with us! In my head you evolved from an idealized role model to a person that is growing with me. It feels like going full circle. Thank you so much, really! I am usually one of those ghost UA-cam consumers, that do not interact. But from time to time something convinces me to say something, and now was one of the times. Thanks again! :)

that second habit is what I’ve been trained to do with suicidal thoughts throughout my whole journey with major depression-just see that thought and let it float on by. even though that was really difficult for many years, now I might have a thought of death or suicide pop into my head, but instead of thinking, “oh that’s so terrible that I’m thinking that! I must be getting worse!” I just think “okay, that’s there, now it can float away.” it’s honestly so life-changing, and I can’t believe I’ve never thought about anxious thoughts in that way. I will 100% be trying to do the same thing with my anxiety. I feel like my anxiety about being anxious is what I really get caught up in. thanks for the advice 💓

    • @rovingrhea
      @rovingrhea 8 місяців тому +2

Why haven't I thought of applying it to that before? That's brilliant. Especially the "oh no oh no I must be getting worse here it comes oh god" thoughts that come after thoughts about 💀 can really make me spiral. It's really a self-fulfilling prophecy. Thank you for sharing.

  • @Kathrin_yt

Habit one resonated with me so much and I've since shared it with a few friends. I also really love that you're one of the few people in this space that seem so non-individualistic. I love your emphasis on the importance of community/friendships/connection. It's wild to me that this is one of the most important aspects of happiness (and societal equilibrium) and yet it's so rarely discussed in the ''self-help'' industry!

  • @Adryanna90

That first habit is the habit that I am
Currently working on and I mean I have a lot of work but there’s progress. I never thought about my reactions to things until I finally went to therapy this year and she put so much emphasis on being aware of my feeling, staying calm, and being okay. I think the kid thing you explained is a great way to think about it, I practice that with my own kid and never thought I should do that with my own situations.

  • @sourgreendolly7685

The first one is already calling me out 😂 in the best way, though.
You're so right. When I was younger, I went from no emotional regulation to being far better at letting feelings be feelings (shout out to DBT for that!). A couple of year ago, I was working on finding that balance between letting myself rest on bad days or whatever and just accepting them because I've found that can be a way of not feeling them too if you're too strict...
but then a lot of big scary life stuff started happening all at once and I've gotten stuck in that dragged out feelings loop for a bit over a year now. I needed that reminder, so thank you!

When a difficult feelings come up, I first recognize it: "Oh, I'm feeling anxious. I wonder why? What are you trying to tell me? Am I tired?" I recognize it, and then get curious with questions that don't really need an answer. Like if an answer pops in my head, that's fine but it's not a demand. And then I try to visualize this emotion as a person, like my best friend. Like if this emotions was my best friend and they just started reacting as the emotion is causing reactions in me, what would I think? What would I say? And I'm immediately flooded with compassion and quietness. I let them have the floor. Go ahead, feel fussy, feel too much, tell me whatever dumb, small, slightly nasty thing. It becomes a listening instead of a participation. And it doesn't feel like I'm feeling them as much as it feels like I'm allowing them space and time like how I would a friend, with complete understanding and nonjudgmental. She's Anxious, but she really just cares. She's Angry, but she's really just hurt. So of course you can stay, and of course you matter. You feel them and as you are I'm right here when you're ready to move out of it, I'm right here when you're ready to talk. Then I cruise throughout my day, every now and again, checking back in to see if Anxious is still around, or Anger, and they are sometimes, but most of the time, they feel validated and have shimmered. Sometimes they stay longer, especially Jealousy, but it all leads to openness for every part of me to have space while I still work, or hang out or do the life I have.

Ah, I have been saying this about feelings for so long. The theory of feeling everything as valid is a bit too much self-love, ya know? We can go too far with babying ourselves and then we don't "grow up". Part of maturing is - as you say- learning to roll with the punches and not be affected by every ebb and flow as though you are the only character in life.
