    My therapist was telling last week that some people can read self help books (habit books, whatever you want to call them) over and over and nothing will change because the brain needs two people to really digest the concept. With that in mind, maybe someone could share their goals with a friend/ confidant as a way of doing goals differently, sort of like the co-working goal hour.

    This is such a good video with so many inspiring ideas! I've been following this channel for years and I looove it. I also love that you went to a library for book footage, not a bookstore, very realistic!

    I realized earlier this week that I'm not someone who works well with goals in a traditional sense. I've found that having that "dream life" vision as my North Star allows me to make choices each day that lead me closer to it. It doesn't feel restrictive, and as life varies, so do my tasks and routines with far less resistance to the change. It's not that I don't have goals, but my approach isn't rigid like a SMART goal, which is kind of funny to say as a Type A personality. Life isn't black and white, and I don't want to approach how I accomplish my goals as if it is. I made this change in my life a few months ago and have seen a massive shift in my progress. It isn't for everyone, but it is what I found that finally works for me.

    Co-working accountability is known as body doubling for those of us with ADHD (it's a useful tool to overcome some of our problems!)

    • @fabscoto
      @fabscoto 2 роки тому +5

      Hey! I've been practicing it w/o knowing it was a thing! 😀 Although I don't have ADHD, not that I'm aware of. I suffer from depression though and I've found this strategy to be really helpful as well. I find it much easier to wash the dishes, for example, when I call my boyfriend over Skype (long distance relationship). Just having him beside me (through the screen) gives me a boost of motivation.

    As always, a great video with so many actionable ideas. I love the idea of practising 'the habit before the habit'. I am always too ambitious with my goals, and planning to many workouts, early and outside. It had never worked for me and will definitly try this out!!

    i'm young, but retired. i have NO goals, not really. its more like i have daily habits-- reading, journalling, exercising and of course i achieve these regularly because i have SO much time. i can't go back to work (health issues). i feel so lost...

    I call what you call "alongside accountability" "parallel play". For neurodivergent folks especially task mirroring can be really helpful. It's much easier to get distracted alone. So having a partner in time (ha) instead of going it alone is a really great counter to the mental gremlins that cause us to get off-track.

    I am honestly the worst for sticking to my goals. I struggle to create good habits and end up feeling run down when I can't stick to them. My anxiety makes me overthink about needing to have positive habits but at the same time, it stops me from being able to do them by negatively impacting my mood constantly! Your videos really help me put things into perspective and I'm so glad that I found your channel. I'm slowly (but surely) making changes in my life for the better. THANK YOU!!

    Michelle, I tried to follow your reset challenge but there’s no way I can pick only 3 goals, leave alone 1! I want to work on 30 things at once! I can usually do them all but I want to be more organized about tracking them. My current system daunts me. Too many things! Does anyone relate? One goal or even three feels like death to me, too constricting 😢

    • @muchelleb
      @muchelleb  2 роки тому +16

      Hey! I think lots of people would relate to this (me included!). We all want to do everything all at once. Have you ever set 15 - 30 goals and found yourself to be successful at achieving them all? How has it gone for you in the past? Would you be willing to “try on” just setting a few goals for short period to see if it serves you better?
      Try having 1 priority goal and other nice to have goals, so that you have the freedom of lots of goals but you still focus most of your energy on just one.

      I feel the same, I'm currently doing the 12week year which also requires you only focus on a few goals really intently for 12wks then I'll complete my next few goals for the following 12wks. It's pretty intense if I'm going to be completely honest but it seems to be working.

      Arlet I used to be like that then I heard the phrase "you can do everything, you just can't do it all at once". I like to do things but everytime I want to add something I weighted in. I ask myself, do I have the enough time, energy and willing to commit to take this new project? To answer that I check how I'm doing in the current projects and how are my energy levels and how much time to spare and sleep is remaining.

      Michelle, Mon, and Cris, I am so thankful for your responses. My brain is like 🤯, trying to find a middle ground. It’s hard to say how many goals I have been working on lately, bc a lot of them are tiny tweaks that get me closer to who I want to become. I make the change once then roll with it and Sometiems there’s not even enough time to register it as a goal. I am so passionate about the woman I am becoming. I don’t ever want to stop growing! It’s both a blessing and a curse. My ideas are infinite and I can struggle to focus. I am still trying to figure this out, but I think I will heed Michelle’s advice to prioritize one thing. If there’s time for more, then great. I don’t think I can break it down to one specific goal but perhaps to a life area I could. I also like the quarterly breakdown. For example, what’s on my heart the most is becoming a more diligent homemaker. As a housewife I have a huge free time privilege which makes me want to be all things, right now. I hate hustle mentality but that’s what I have been doing with my aspirations.. how sneaky. I am very passionate about this topic, sorry for the long reply. I don’t get to talk about these topics much nowadays and I would love to more. Wishing you all the best!
