Oh god I can't stand when bands act like this during soundcheck. If you just let the soundman own the stage everything goes so smoothly. I love when they let me go through everything in FOH then we go back to monitors after. Great job on the video!
+Matthew Garcia I hear ya that is my life story!? 5 days week year round! Not all bands are this way.. but most of the time it is cover bands...When your on a national tour its not the band members that you have to deal with it is the Tour Mangagers.. It actually says in their job description to act like the bad guy... to keep people on their toes and on time lol
The engineer's job is to be as transparent as possible. This means letting the bands be themselves and get comfortable before their performance. A little guidance if necessary to get the check done efficiently, but getting testy because he wanted to hear more of a mic that he was already speaking into... and responding that you're trying to do a video "man".. that was just rude.
@@uuuh9767 right? Way I do it is I run down front first, then move on to monitors and give every band member just their own vocals + their instruments (and click if applicable), then let them run through a song or two and THEN take them member by member to know what else they need. 70% of the time it's either good as is or some just want BD + snare and that's it
I didn't realize you could flip faders for a channel and dial it into mixes in the dca/mix bus section. Ive always used it the other way around (flip the mix and dial the chanels to the mix). AWESOME another good little trick with the desk for quick sound checks. thanks and good work with the videos!
I mix at church and i no longer hesitate to tell other band members to stop playing and vocals to stop singing if im sound checking a specific instruments. I can relate with un organized band. Haha
Thanks for uploading mate. You're a very patient man my friend! It sounds like the drummer has ADHD! I'm about to purchase an X32 for my church, is there any chance you could do a quick start/setup tutorial when you get the chance?
mwcalder95 yes I will add it to my list kind sir.. I will be doing more tutorials soon.. it is hard to keep up with everyone's requests and work 5 nights a week doing gigs, lol I makes for not a lot of time. I will make a video for you , just give me a little bit , keep checking back! I got a start preset on my website for download, if you do ...you can call me for help.
Rico S there will definitely be more coming soon! Thanks keep following and I will be doing another prize giveaway soon to my subscribers on my websites email list! make sure to sign up!
@Audio Media Production Service hey man, what kind of vocal mic is the drummer using? The drummer in my band is a singer but he likes to not sing close so it kinda messes with the way I have to put in the rest of the drums.
How do I record an instrumental. Then go back and lay the vocals for verses and choruses on individual tracks, on a Midas M32, for one song without using a DAW?
I actually HATE whenever the stage is trying to control what I’m asking them what to do. For example, when I’m checking bass, their like, “Can we check vocals first?” I just tell them this is my process. If they want to get it done fast, just let us do it in order instead of skipping around.
Again... instead of flipping to SOF on the monitor layer, just grab the bus send knobs to the left of the screen...I’d also use the talkback input for your mic, and you can use talkback A for FOH, and talkback B in the mons... instead of eating up a board channel.
Hey I was wondering can I use the Midas m32 to record radio ready songs and use it for a studio set up and is it possible to hook this machine up to Protools can you please answer my question any body thanks
If im doing a soundcheck, i don't allow other bandmembers to play. Its too annoying for me. Just want to check my lines. If im done with FOH soundcheck, ill do monitors during the practice song. At that moment the band can listen to the monitors while playing and doing some adjustments. Singers do sing louder during the song, in comparison with the soundcheck. So a monitormix will never be right during a soundcheck
JexsyMC yes another give away!! but not till I hit 300 like I said in a past vid... lol I'll go broke if I do every 100 lol, I do work in the music Industry..Expensive gear, and "starving musicians" But yes I will do another giveaway soon...make sure to subscribe on youtube and sign up for my email list, to get your name in the drawing twice! go to audiomediaproductionservice.com
I ask/tell them to wait off stage if possible until I need them. They don't tell you the order, you tell them. When he asks for bass, it doesn't mean guitar and keys, sigh
FOH is the boss man during sound check. Bands that don't get that sound less better than they should. I don't think Knucklehead is doing that bad in this video. There name is.....Knucklehead????
I hear ya bud.. they are a good band ... All these guys are good friends of mine.. unfortunately people in the comments can assume meanings or filter things through there own points of view.. Perhaps I could of acted a bit different myself.. Me and the drummer always give each other hard times out of good fun.
Because there are several different ways you can monitor sound during a production. Plus, if you're working with a video crew as well and you guys are on headset together. You say wedge instead of monitor to keep confusion down.
"One, two, one two... Check check" - How are you supposed to do a sound check with that? If you are a (background) singer: just SING! It's a sound check, not a line check... Jesus, I hate it... :D

I miss this mixer so much that I can almost taste the shrimp. Are you doing monitor sends on fader? Lord, that is a hideous idea. I wish they would put the monitor sends on rotary knobs. Yes, it would cost a couple dollars more to build. Or have an accessory box to plug in for those who want it. Now, there's an idea. Monitor sends on faders is just a foul thing and it does not fit into the mixer workflow.
He is doing Sends On Faders, and I'm a big fan of that when I mix too. It's a personal thing... but the desk does have rotary dials for Bus Sends, it's the row of four dials stacked vertically just to the right of the Equaliser section. So, you can choose your own workflow based on your own preference, the desk is very flexible in that regard.

I feel your pain....this reminds me of many summer festivals in Chicago. Chasing around the band to lock down a sound check in an orderly fashion.

I give you credit man lol. sometimes bands can be a pain in the ass lol

@@mashzmash I didn’t see it as rude, they were walking all over him and not letting him go from FOH then to monitors.
The input gains are VERY forgiving! Nice and clean!
I sure would love to have one of these! Beautiful board! I'm currently using the MIDAS Venice U32.
This is howwww I cheeeEeEEeck my miiiiic!
Excellent video. It was very helpfull.
Thanks from southern sunny Spain!
German Villen Bryan is a funny character ... always being a dufus. I only hope to visit Spain one day!
That was such an informative video man. I haven’t seen any other live soundcheck videos.

Are you working in headphones here?

+Joan Fatsini berries are good for you! lol
Audio Media Production Service XD :-)
fantastic audio production they got going at the geriatric house, makes me wanna be 80
Lol
all those vox mics and not one back up lol cool vid :)
Curiously, why didn't he run an HPF on the sax mic at 15:00?
To avoid sharpness especially when the sax is blowing it hard.
Este tio me encanta!!!!!!!!!!!
+Joan Fatsini thanks for the kind words... Share my page please and thanks!

Are using a laptop with your console??? If so wat for...thnx
"I'm tryin' to do a video man"
"Oh, ok"
:))))BTW, that's one hell of a console!!! Amazing gear, congrats!! :D
The direc to mixer? Or use a microphone to guitar amplifier?
Mixing with the gain knob with everything at unity gain would result in very low preamps for the musicians Dante network personal mixing stations.
Is this board good as the Allen & Heath SQ 6 and the quality of sound?
Is this a house board? If not what kind of case is that with the wood sides?
vocalists are always the unruly ones when I do sound. stand there and wait your turn hahah
It would have been cool if we can see the band while you do what you do my man...
Rico S thanks for the suggestion, I will keep that in mind for next time! Cheers

That guy is so bad ass the singer on keys hahaha
Classy af hahaha
sounds like one of my sound checks
Hi. Thank you for your helpful video. I see vocal mikes are too close to drums, any bleed there? and what did you do to avoid bleed?
Bonjour c'est coll

With the features available to the band, WHY is soundman fixing their monitors ????
Looked like the IEMs were doing their own.
Quick question: how did you make the eq settings you loaded into the mixer? Was that by ringing them out or did you do smaart or the likes?
How do I record an instrumental. Then go back and lay the vocals for verses and choruses on individual tracks, on a Midas M32, for one song without using a DAW?

Jimmy Marrero i am using Pro Tools 12 and X32 compact you just have to set the DAW and let the talk to each other

Agreed,
Performers always need more monitor when the whole band is playing ..

+Wency Madsen haha so true... that venue is what I call the Old zone!
I like how quick you are with the process. You might exert more authority during the soundcheck. The Band behaves very unprofessional.
Haha, the band has style, they on the UA-cam channel singing about the channel…

dude, why do live sound guys say wedges, not monitors
Because there are several different ways you can monitor sound during a production. Plus, if you're working with a video crew as well and you guys are on headset together. You say wedge instead of monitor to keep confusion down.
lol, i did not know that, kool thank you
You're welcome, keep making good music.
Also because most "monitors" are shaped like a wedge...

yes there is three different ways to run the bus sends/aux sends on these consoles!
you can do sends on the encoders
There are bus sends on each channel as well.
Easier on an analog!

You were being way to nice for the video.....
Classic, kick too loud in clubs sound man.
Nothing worse then musicians that don’t know how to sound check.
Great sound, terrible band and even worse story.
