    In this video we show a real life example of a Live Sound Check with the Midas M32. Great board for the price range and the sound quality is awesome. The band I am doing sound for is called Taxi Driver and they are from Omaha, NE ( www.taxidriverlive.com/ ) Thanks to Taxi Driver and the Ozone Lounge Omaha for letting us make this video!

      Я на каждом саундчеке ору на барабанщиков. Когда мне надо поговорить с музыкантами, все глушат инструменты, и только ебучий ударник продолжает долбить по барабанам. Хоть стреляй в него, чтоб заткнулся.

    • @robfriedrich2822
      @robfriedrich2822 4 роки тому +1

      @@entidadewolf Possibly, the name "Midas" is misleading. It's important to cut low frequencies, possibly to boost treble (and digital equalizers are pretty willing, before these came, the only way was to use a SPL vitalizer).
      I work with the X32 and the musician has a backing with some echos from his own voice and I noticed, that my sound was boomy and hasn't much brilliance - it's amazing, how close you can bring a SM58 to the sound of a condenser mike.
      Sometimes it should also help, when the singer doesn't sing so close...

    I've mixed in that room on that board. Using Audio Media Productions presets. The thing to take into account about that venue is that it's a restaurant setting and there are people still eating during that sound check. Most times we don't get to make any noise until 30 minutes prior to show time. So, yes, it was a quick spin through, but very thorough in my opinion. Of course, many adjustments are made throughout the night once they get rolling. Good job man! Hope all is well!

    Thanks for the walkthrough! Been holding on to my analog desk but am getting close to making the switch and have gotten a ton of valuable info from these type of walkthrough videos. I do have to say that I still get a kick out of how every single local or regional band reacts the same way to soundcheck, ask for kick drum and the entire band starts riffing and babbling into the mics.....

    Man, that's some good music! Awesome video. Thanks for showing your good work. My church rented a system for one week on vacations. It was my first time with a X32. I know it's Behringer - hate Behringer, had too much problems for a lifetime, but I could have a little taste of M32

    • @ITZorologist
      @ITZorologist 7 років тому +2

      M32 is a nice mix, and full automation digital mixers are the name of the game. I read nearly 80 reviews on the latest Behringer X32 and other than preferences for a few minor items which - when they got comfortable with it - they realized it was better than they first realized. One reviewer said he thought the X32 was cleaner and more transparent than Presonus and a better value than some mixers selling in the high teens. I've been pleased with Behringer's bang for the buck! Midas M32 , DiGiCol SD, Avid & Behringer X32 are all excellent products that get the job done. The X32 utilizes Midas' gain programmable pre-amps (some help from Klark Teknik's).
      Got my feet wet on a 'tube' board built by J. Harned who became MCI. I think the Bee-Gee's did a lot of work on one of those; and then I got the privilege to custom design a Sphere console for Doppler and worked on another Sphere at GroundStar with Ronnie. So, being brought up on large analog studio mixers, I'm jealous of the ability of these guys (& gals) and their magic mixers; but when it's said and done, it still takes an audio geek that loves music, has good ears, attention to detail and coolness behind the faders. "So pay no mind to the mixer behind the curtain and just enjoy the show - folks."

      The human ear can't actually tell the difference between the two boards. Dave Rat's tests reveal all lol. There IS a difference, but it's not something we can hear. The differences are at levels too low or too high for us to notice. Especially during a show!!! The interface shootout done by GEARSLUTZ cleared it all up too. In a blind test the BEHRINGER interface was voted the best sounding even up against $12,000 dollar Appolo interfaces and the likes. It's 200 bucks!!! All the people that claim to "hear" the differences in todays gear voted BEHRINGER THE BEST!!! hahaha. I am NOT saying they are at all. I'm saying that they're all virtually the same! Don't waste money on names. Todays gear is ALL great stuff. I've had my x32 Compact for 3 years and done well over a hundred shows for professional acts and not one has ever complained it's a Behringer board. Either is capable in the right hands.

    • @audiomediaproductionservic1051
      @audiomediaproductionservic1051  9 років тому +12

      ***** if your talking about my inputs being routed as a mirror image on faders 17-32 is because most bands i do sound for dont take up more than 16 inputs so i mirror image them on 17-32 to split the board into 2 consoles one for monitors and one for FOH then i set my bus sends as post eq, what this allows me to do is have channel eq's in the monitors seperate from my FOH allowing for better monitor mixes. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Nice video! I have a question: What are you doing with channels 1-16 and what are you doing with channels 17-32. It looks like they both have the same instruments going into each. Does it have to do with EQ'ing for the monitors being different than for FOH?

    • @ancientwisdommassage1441
      @ancientwisdommassage1441 7 років тому

      Since most mobile devices bring up the first 16 channels... it's best to set them up as "monitor" only... then live mix on 17 thru 32... the other advantage to that is separate EQ per channel.

      Yeah, that band doesn't have any discipline at all when soundchecking. "Hey, you say snare, I say drumset!" Makes it totally easy to pick out the right sound because of course every snare sounds the same and the engineer of course knows the frequencies for the EQ.

    Hi, nice tutorial videos. I have a few questions on your workflow. If I am not mistaken, you 1. use only gates and dynamics on your drums (why not on the other instruments?) 2. route some of the channels (kick, snare) to the M/C main bus (is this better for the centrally panned instruments rather than routing to the stereo main bus?) 3. set your master fader and individual channels to zero and adjust the input gain (do you have still another way to set the overall volume for the venue?). We bought a M32 few months ago. It's a great console! Thanks!

    • @audiomediaproductionservic1051
      @audiomediaproductionservic1051  9 років тому +2

      TME All-Stars I typically use gates just on drums, I do use compressors on other instruments also, especially the vocals. In this video you might be seeing me jump to the monitor side of the board. I split the board into two consoles that has the mirror imaged channels. On the monitor channels I typically do not use gates or dynamics but on the FOH side of the console I do. When you see me using the mono bus I am running subs on an aux. It is not set up as a mono master send. Just to the subwoofers, I wouldnt be sending the snare to it tho. and as far as the gain I will set my faders first into usable position like 0dB then bring my gain up, this is proper gain structure, you can follow it backwards. Dave Rat has a good video on this. If you need more volume for the venue adjust your amplifiers accordingly.

    I noticed you had a rough EQ on every channel before you started the sound check; were those EQs you added manually before the check started, or are those part of the built-in EQs on the board?

    • @audiomediaproductionservic1051
      @audiomediaproductionservic1051  9 років тому +5

      Mike Kerlinger I have my own eq's that are my starting points for every instrument that I have saved into my library...of coarse if my starting point needs adjusting I adjust it... but it saves so much time before a gig, trying to set my hi pass filters eq's gates, ect so once i get the input list from the band i can load up my presets under a minute and have everything labeled and ready to go..
      Thanks I hope this helps... CHEERS

    • @ryancruickshank1868
      @ryancruickshank1868 2 роки тому

      Fellow mixer here, just getting into the live world having spent most of my time in studio settings but the same ideas apply - the part of the process that isn’t as easy to see is that BEFORE he’s doing his boost to search, he’s already heard something he doesn’t like (annoying, distracting, overpowering etc). Knowing where in the frequency spectrum to look comes with experience, he’ll know after however many hundred mixes that to deal with a ringing overtone he’ll want to be searching anywhere above the fundamental frequency of the snare, but he’ll be trying to keep away from the part of the upper midrange/treble where the ‘snap’ or attack sound of the snare lives. The same idea applies to any instrument: hear something you don’t like, know where to look, ELIMINATE (or at least attend to). Hope this helps a little

      Compression is used in every channel strip and master out.

      Germ City Studios yes you can only use 8 faders to control protools daw and you can use the user define buttons for some functions

    Can you explain how you increase individual channel level to the bus. It looks like your pushing up the bus fader to send more of an individual channel. or are you increasing the overall volume of that monitor bus ?

    • @audiomediaproductionservic1051
      @audiomediaproductionservic1051  9 років тому +1

      Tom Watson in this specific video you are seeing me push the send of the individual channel into that monitor bus. There are three ways to send monitors on this console the way you are seeing is me selecting the specific channel and hitting the sends on fader button in between the input faders and the output faders that changes my output faders to the sends into that bus. I do have a video on this subject with the behringer X32, the behringer and the Midas M32 are virtually ran exactly the same way! The video is on my channel and its called Behringer X32 / Midas M32 - Output section. I also explain how to assign DCA's and Subgroups in this video thanks! By the way I am working on filming all these tutorials on the Midas M32 but you can resort to my other videos on the X32 to help you out Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback!

      Tom Watson I love the wave designer for kick drum. Try also using it on the snare as well it will give you that really tight snappy snare you always dreamed about! lol another idea is to put it on your drum subgroup to effect all the drums transients. Might not be the best for the cymbals though.

      Been using the m32 since november last year in a venue i work regularly.
      I never knew you could do sends on faders this way, i did wonder why you could select a channel in sends on fader mode.
      Personally i find it much quicker to just use the send knobs however i can see the merits of doing it this way
