@@herokme thank you .i am about to buy one after watching your video. is there any new versions coming uo or shall i go for this.? after listening to cons , i thought better ask you
I want to get the gimbal and the lidar for my Nikon d850. Sounds like it’ll work cause the DSLR autofocus sucks when it comes to video. But with this it seems it’ll be easy hopefully. And the direction/instruction you’re giving is very helpful. Definitely going to save this video!
hopefully it works! just be careful that most photography lenses aren’t linear focus, so the focus motor may not pull focus properly. but i’m not sure if that’s the case with nikon lenses too
@ kinda wish I had a Sony a7iv. From what I’ve heard the autofocus is great. I’d probably wouldn’t need the lidar… maybe. Just the gimbal. But if I do get my hands on the gear I’ll test it out. I just wish there is more reviews or more videos for the Nikon d850 like bts photoshoots or even videos and so on. There isn’t much out there on UA-cam.
i have the a7iv, autofocus is amazing. lidar would only make sense if you’re using manual focus cine lenses if you were rocking the a7iv. if you had autofocus lenses for it, you could go a long way with it. of course, manual focus does look different. but that’s a whole different learning curve, especially if you’re trying to manual focus on photography lenses
@@herokme I do have a 35mm 50mm and 85mm and they have autofocus…. Sooo it’s a possibility! I hope lol. Ugh 😩. Well if the lidar doesn’t work with those lenses I’ll probably just return the lidar and just control the focus on the gimbal. Hahaha. This is a tough one. I am trying to take it easy. I’m slowly getting into videos. I’m more into photography. I do photography. Never done video. Well I only did one video but I had to use single focus point and basically not move too much forward and back then I’ll be out of focus lmao. I’d have to use manual focus if I’m moving back and forth
@1990GreenAngel yeah focusing is definitely harder without a good autofocus system if you’re on a gimbal. i’ve gotten to a point where i’m pretty much all manual focus now, but i run handheld rigs over a gimbal 😂
You can connect the DJI Nado rail. If you have bottom 15 mm rods to put it closer to the lens and have more accurate auto focus and the top handle can also slide onto the top like normal. If you don’t have a NATO rail top handle.
Great overview, thanks for sharing :) One question, you mentioned you can manually calibrate the motor end points. Have you tried this on photo lenses? I'd have a mix of photo and cine lenses, I'd love to be able to use this on all
i’ve tried this on one photo lens, although only just briefly. it does work, it just doesn’t feel as nice as most photo lenses don’t manual focus as smoothly and linearly as cine lenses!
How well does LiDAR-enabled ActiveTrack Pro auto-track a subject in less ideal lighting and tracking scenarios. I've been learning the hard way auto-tracking gimbals fail in low light, abort when subjects are temporarily obscured, and fail to re-acquire an obscured subject. The other thing I'm learning is no one makes UA-cam videos about these limitations. Any demos on the limits of LiDAR-enable ActiveTrack pro would be great. Thanks!
I don't use a gimbal much so I haven't tested that out, but I definitely will soon. But essentially because lidar doesn't rely on "seeing" the subject but rather using the "laser", it actually tracks really well in low light, at least from my use case with handheld, so I assume it should be pretty similar with a gimbal. Definitely will try it out though!
@@herokme Thanks! If ActiveTrack actually uses LiDAR, it could track a subject in complete darkness because it's finding the subject by the autofocus distance readings, not by light or contrast, etc. If you don't use the Gimbal, why are you doing videos about it. Confusing...
@@myerssamuel1057 not sure what you mean by why am i doing videos about it. i use the lidar on my handheld rigs to give my cine lenses autofocus. there are more ways to use it than just using it with a gimbal
Hi there... do you happen to knnow what size screws go in the bottom of the Lidar? I looked everywhere but i can't find the specified size. Thanks in advance.
they’re m3 screws! if you’re looking for the ones that go into the gooseneck, i believe they’re 6mm. i used 8mm for my diy method when including the washers
The only issue I have with my DJI Focus Pro Combo is that when I'm doing the 4-5 meter calibration and I manually adjust the focus dial to bring the camera into focus at that distance, I get jerky movements of the DJI motor rather than smooth continuous movement. Would it help if I adjusted the Damping Coefficient in the Dial Settings? Also if I have two people in the camera's field of view and no one is available to monitor the camera during the filming would it make more sense to use the FlexiSpot mode to keep both people's faces in focus? Does it matter if I enlarge the size of the centered rectangle on the DJI display?
if you're getting jerky movements, it almost sounds like the motor isnt gripping the gear ring properly. i would make sure that its lined up properly first. you could also try lowering the motor torque to see if that would help. if you're filming with two people, unless both people are always at the same depth as each other, then only one of them will be focus at a time. i would probably just leave it on wide mode and let it choose someones face to track, or make sure both people are at the same depth at all times. or have one of the people lock targets with the lidar on the other person before you start filming. hope that helps!
This is the best tutorial and explanation I've seen on the DJI Focus Pro. Thank you for sharing!
so glad it was useful! thanks a bunch for the support! 🙏🏻
Imma need that
no more complaining about missed focus 🤣
@@herokme 🥲
Great video! thanks a lot for the explanation. Could you do a video explaining the rigging? looks awesome!
definitely can!
One of the better explanation videos on YT and cool setup ✌🏽
really appreciate that, thanks for watching! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
thank you. best video in youtube about this product. subscribed

@BijuViswanathfilmmaker glad to hear! i don’t think i’ve heard anything about a new version coming out, since the focus pro is still relatively new!

I’m confuse how do you set up the meter for the lidar with the camera
the distance? it shows up when you calibrate the motor

If you forget your measuring tape, you could just take the dimensions and length of the lens
i don’t think that’s accurate. your lens doesn’t touch the sensor. and some people might be using adapters of different lengths, etc

what kind of wireless monitor are you using?? and which transmission system is this?
