Pavlova has to be one of the most beautiful gymnasts to watch there has ever been .. Absolutely stunning on every single move - also one of the most underrated
If you discount the huge error at the beginning, yes. It was unfortunate, they easily could have gotten the bronze but… you must perform at your best when it counts most.
@@Oleff1 she did better than you, who is nothing more than a mouthpiece with a keyboard. She is a two time Olympian, a silver medalist, a world champion and true team leader. When you have accomplished… at least something remotely useful- you can talk trash about someone else who has. I doubt that’ll ever happen.
It was tough to see this team, so full of potential have so many problems at the end. It was also weird to see them so weak on bars- an event they’d been historically very strong on. I was especially fond of Semenova’s gymnastics, such clean and consistent performances from her. She was the true rock of this team.
I've never understood why Afanasyeva had such a long and weird front half at second pass, until I recently watched the Quals and realized that she was supposed to do a front full and bailed it.
I hadn’t realized that either, explains a lot!! She must not have gotten quite enough push to complete the full element. Honestly it’s amazing she saved it to that extent.
Nothing negative intended, but I was just struck by how no one came to Pavlova immediately after her routine. Well, maybe she wanted to be alone. It's just that it seems no one even looked at her. Kramarenko was not approached at once either, though it seemed she had to walk a bit farther to get to their spot. Unlike Afansyeva, for instance, where people were there at once for her. Anyway...
It sometimes depends on the individual. Her teammates may have recognized that she needed a few minutes alone to settle. They did comfort her, but for some people they need a minute by themselves first.
You are correct. Sadly, at least for a couple of them they were treated as villains, despised and discarded by their own country for their mistakes here. Anna in particular was treated horribly and had to switch to ajerbaijan to continue in the sport.
I feel bad for Anna Pavlova. Criminally underappreciated but partly her fault for not adapting to the open-ended scoring system. After her performance here, nobody came to comfort her. It seemed there was a lack of team spirit towards her. Pavlova seemed to be the last real artistic gymnast. I know people say great things about Komova and Mustafina but I don't really consider them artists. They get by with that Russian ballet training but there's more than that to make a true artist. They're just working with their fundamentals (that I wish all countries had). Afanasyeva has a great modern dance approach. These three FXs here make it seem like the Russians were far from being in good condition as were just hoping to get through their routines with basic tumbling unscathed.
Well three people came back to back to comfort her in this video, some I’m not sure where you got that no one comforted her. It seemed that she wanted to be by herself, which is why she sat in the corner. But yeah Pavlova was like the last chapter of a Russian gymnastics book. It really changed in 2012
@@josiefa5852 Like I said in my original post, most of the Russian gymnasts rely on the fundamentals (I'm glad one country does) that provides a solid foundation to build beautiful movement. Mustafina and Komova have that. What differentiates Pavlova from them, IMO, is that you see that innate musicality, sense of drama, fluidity, and going further than just hitting choreography from her. She feels the movement and you see it in the way she moves in-between the accents. Mustafina kind of had that or the makings of it in 2010 and possibly 2012, but these days she's just posing her way through and I don't see any artistry with her. Just great toe point at times. Especially on balance beam where she lost all sense of fluidity. Although Komova had fluidity when she could be bothered to perform, I don't see her soul the way I saw with Pavlova and other gymnasts I'd call artists.
If I’m remembering correctly, she’d just fallen on beam just before this. That’s a tough thing to put aside when the pressure is that intense. That likely explains it.
My only guess is that she tried to punch front out of the 2½ and attempt the whip-triple twist as her third pass in order to secure some extra points for Russia. It backfired spectacularly.
