The fact that only in 2 years bars became Russian strongest event from their weakest. Mustafina, Nabieva and Komova made bars the deepest event in Russia!

It is funny how it can be so cyclical in terms of what countries have what for strengths. It just depends on what athletes come into the fray.

Her hands had to be so tough to do that- day after day.

The evolution of Russian bars in four years was unreal.

It’s all in who comes along for athletes. They had several really natural bar workers come into the fray after these games. The cyclical nature of the sport for certain.

Is that the girl who got zero in 2007 team final? No wonder Russia was doomed in 2008

They were doomed in many ways- tons of big and little mistakes throughout the competition, a massive weakness on bars- in a quad where bars was a big factor- I had a feeling it was going to be an unsuccessful games for them.

@@saragrant9749 I don't like Russian gymnasts. They are very inconsistent. The fact that their country like to invade other countries and kill people also doesn't help.

@@Shane_2022 and engage in state sanctioned performance enhancing drug use to boot. I’m hoping they’ll be kept out of Paris 2024. The country and its leaders need to be taught a harsh lesson.

@@saragrant9749 The Russians just didn't work that code well at all. It's almost like they just took their 2001-2005 routines and didn't bother adapting them at all for the new scoring system. I believe Pavlova's UB routine didn't have ANY connection value at all, which is crazy considering that code gave out CV like candy. With that said though, they still should have beaten the Romanians - they just made too many mistakes.

@@Gazmeizster_Wongatronthat is very true. It was very unusual to see Russia actually weak on bars… when it had historically been an enormous strength for them. Sometimes it just depends on who there is for talent to choose from. In terms of Anna Pavlova, I feel like bars for her were like bars for Aly Raisman- not something she was ever really comfortable with. It’s unfortunate because if she had been she could have certainly contended for an AA medal. Four years later they had some of the best in the world on bars. It’s most definitely not the first time I’ve seen mistakes cost a team a medal (China in 2012…) I was really hoping Semenova in particular would get to London, her bars were badass.
