To think that she was 4th during the all round competition. I was really impressed. I was even more concentrated on Khorkina and Zamolodchikova cos they were my favourites to win
What a treat to watch, but what a shame about the knee, though. She always impresses me every single time. Her floor routine is well choreographed. A 9.750 is underscored in my personal opinion. It should have been at least a 9.800.
they gave more points to artistry then. That was probably where this routine was lacking in comparison to gymnasts like Karpenko, Khorkina and Raducan. I mean the music didn't suit her and was a bit messy to start. Even Amanar had her routine perfectly calculated to make it look energetic. The issue with this scoring system too was that they had a ceiling of 10 so they had to leave room to go higher with scores later in the competition, which meant they were more conservative in scoring gymnasts who appeared earlier.
@@saragrant9749 She had a terrible career-ending injury. I think it was her knee on a vault. Still upsetting all these years later because she was so great.
@@LKR0722 oh jeez, that’s what seems to get an awful lot of vaulters. Stinks, but I’m glad she is still involved in the sport as a coach. There’s no better teacher than someone who’s been there.
hi Susan, do you have the full eurosport coverage off Sydney? iv been searching for years! absolutely love the eurosport versions of competitions, thanks stephen
I wonder what she could have done if she had been able to make the 2004 team. Such a shame for the knee injury that ended it for her, she definitely had more to offer the sport.
In 2000 she medaled on both vault and beam, and could have won the All Around if she did not make mistakes on floor and beam. And she was still young then.
@ she very much was, and that’s why it was such a shame for the career ending knee injury. Her floor in particular was wonderful and I’d have loved to have seen it in Athens. Her beam was spectacular… EXCEPT for the giant pause before the Arabian. That pause cost her beam gold and it’s really too bad. Whats incredible to even think about is she actually didn’t really like gymnastics! Somehow you could never see that- just beautiful performance and artistry. Those medals she did get were very much earned.
@@saragrant9749 Yes I loved her floor routine, very unique. I do think if she had continued she could have added even more skills on beam and also fixed the long pause on the arabian as she got more comfortable with it. It was such a shame her injury ended her career very prematurely, especialy as the Russian team really needed her to be more of a contender in 2004 and she probably would have been more of a contender in the All Around too. I also heard she didn't like gymnastics that much, and saw it as work, which made it even more incredible she was that good. Pure talent.
One of the best, most complete floor routines ever. The entire package
Omg this is so dificult and very well performed
Underated gymnast

VERY DIFFICULT AND MOST WONDERFULLY DONE ROUTINE! FANTASTIC WORK! BLESSINGS TO YOU!
The performance of the Sydney Games!

I agree. But beside the errors, i think the judges want to Rumania wins the final.
i don't understand how Khorkina scored higher than her
She would've gotten 9.8+ of she was last in the line up;

Iconic! Very very Artistic
Wow, triple twist perfectly performed

Excellent gymnastics by a legend
Queen Katia 😍 Sad she never liked gymnastics
She didn’t?! You’d never know it, she was brilliant!
You know you’re GREAT when Monica Phelps is complimenting you throughout the entire routine. 😂😂
She was my coach for 2 years!
Where is she now?
@@azmadkareem4782 She coaches at a gymnastics club is in Langley, BC, Canada. She coaches there with her mom.
Bryony Mackinder wow! Whats the club name?
@@azmadkareem4782 it is called Langley Gymnastics Foundation
She's my coach for the summer this year.. just found out she was in the Olympics 😱
I actually enjoy her routine better than Raismans tbh
Fun fact she coaches at my gym now. I live on Canada
I always wondered what happened to her. You are learning from an expert for sure! What caused her to stop competing, do you know?

Simmer down, Christine, she’s not a racehorse.
Lol thanks for the chuckle!
That’s Monica Phelps.
Yes! That’s who I meant, thanks, Maia
Monica was the worst announcer in gymnastics history, such a demeaning, judgemental and disgraceful human being.
Con esta rutina hubiera subido al bronce en AA
