  • This truck was driving along the highway when a caravan rushed to overtake it, in the same lane. This resulted in a collision, and both vehicles sustained considerable damages. Fortunately, none of the people inside the vehicles were harmed.

Reading all the comments I have learned something new here!!!
The sign shown at the beginning of the vid is new to me (although I have travelled through Denmark a few times…)
And according to the comments it means that the vehicle forward of the other one has right of way, which in this vid is the cammer!!
This also explains the VERY short lane upto entering the motorway…
Stil the camer had all the opportunity to avoid a collision by crossing the line onto the hard shoulder….
To my mind no judge in the world at large would punnish you for crossing a line in order to avoid an accident….
Please take note of this all of you travelling in Denmark!!!

@@rdrhouse I learn more and more!!
As an HGV driver I would have given the caravan all the opportunity to pass….
Apart from right of way yes or no; we all know the average caravandriver is not overly skilled…..
In this case, and now knowing more about the meaning of this sign, I think both drivers were not careful enough!!
The truck driver could have avoided this collision by keeping to his right and move on to the hard shoulder.
I can imagine the guy with the caravan was hesitant to move over to the left because several vehicles are overtaking him…
But of course he could have avoided the collision by slowing down in time….
The law apart this case shows what rules always apply:
      -Keep distance.
      -Anticipate.
-Try to avoid any accident even if you have ‘right of way’
      Enjoy the ride,

Its also much more sensible. When driving in the states I matched the front car and merged. Only to discover the douche behind had closed the gap. He literally turned a safe join into a risky omne. What was I meant to do grind to halt and try join a motorway from a standstill. Dumb rule. My good God, the whole world isn't the USA. In Denmark, which is in Europe, vehicles joining have priority especially on short slip roads like this. The caravan involved in the collision knew that and that way least 20-30 seconds to adjust their speed. They made the wrong decision, a decision that will leave them paying a fine and for repairs to the cam vehicle. What happens in the USA or any other country os irrelevant.

doesn't the inverted red arrow sign mean "road users must facilitate the merging of traffic under mutual consideration". But read the other reactions and see how most of us, including meself, are wrong because this is in Denmark and there it is different!!!
I am pretty sure the cammer makes a mistake here….
The cammer has to give way when merging into traffic!!
If traffic on the right lane can give you an opportunity to merge than that is very nice…
If not YOU have to find a way around it!!

    • @rdrhouse
      @rdrhouse Місяць тому +1

i think everyones first reaction is the way the rest of the world views these slip road junctions, but in Denmark this type of junction is different. It has an inverted red Y sign and this means "road users must facilitate the merging of traffic under mutual consideration". Two things are said in this meaning, the first is this junction is a merge point and secondly nobody has priority and safe merging is allowed, giving "mutual consideration". Considering the position of the accident, it's pretty clear that the car is very close if not actually by the side of the cammer when this merge takes place. But most of all you must also consider the speed difference. The cammer is travelling at a much slower speed than all the traffic on the road including the car, so i believe that "mutual consideration" was not given by the merging vehicle. This is a moronic idea for a junction as it generates a belief that merging vehicles have a right of way, which they do not have. There is no priority for either vehicle, but seriously why on earth would you pull into a lane with a car towing a caravan by the side of you, it's just plain stupid.

This is in Denmark. Having driven in many European countries in both LHD and RHD (U.K. registered 'drive on the left') cars it is my opinion this was almost (but not entirely) the fault of the cammer - in Europe the rules are that joining traffic adjusts its speed to match the speed of the traffic on the motorway.
While the caravaner could probably have done more (e.g. adjusted their speed) to avoid the collision legally the cammer is at fault - the cammer bullied their way onto the motorway, had their vehicle been built such that it disintegrated in a collision this wouldn't have happened.

    • @drewideas

The cammer bullied their way onto the motorway, Really …. Go back and get your guidebook for merging traffic and tell us all, what the sign at 0:19 means, and what the acceleration zone on a merge lane means, and what makes you think coming to a complete stop on the merge means ?
If a vehicle, doesn’t matter what type, is going to be ahead of you at the merge zone , you must give way, that goes both for the vehicles travelling on the motorway, as well as for those about to merge onto the motorway.
      Do You Understand that.
That Means the VEHICLE that hits another VEHICLE on the merge zone , Whoever was in front had Right Of Way .

In the UK the merging vehicle has to merge safely and fit into the traffic already in the lane they are entering, but this is Denmark so whether or not the law is different i'm not sure. The black car towing the caravan has right of way and cannot enter the outside lane due to traffic, i understand the cammer is in a large vehicle, a truck of some sort and these drivers tend to be belligerent on a super human scale, so it's not surprising this happened. A Merging Vehicle has the right of way if it is ahead of you on a Merge, It is attempting to get to speed, It is not going to slow down or stop to let you pass.
If you are ahead of the Merging Vehicle, it is to merge behind you,
If you are approaching a merge lane , in a line of traffic .. you are following a vehicle , you are required to allow a gap to develop so as to allow an ahead of you in merge lane to merge safely.

Also in several other languages in Europe "caravan" is a well known name for what we see here, whereas "trailer" is more like a generic term for everything which can be coupled on a car or truck. But yes, "when a caravan rushed to overtake it" is not perfect, as "our European" caravans usually are attached to a car, which makes them a more passive device...
