    Mark, I just don't get it, if it can't be towed about what's the point of it? You might aswell buy a static, it makes no sense to me at all.
    Surely a caravan is meant to be towed about to diffrent destinations.

      @woolychewbakker5277 You don't need a vehicle that weighs 7.5 tons to tow this. My F450 weighs 4.5 tons empty and can tow much more than this with ease. The conventional tow rating on the F450 is 15t and the gooseneck/5th wheel rating is 16.5t.

      @woolychewbakker5277 North American towing regulations are a lot more relaxed. At the very least we can go up to 26,000 lbs of single vehicle or combined weight rating on a standard passenger license. Most states have RV exemptions that allow us to go higher. It's a little crazy that you can pass your test and get your license on a Honda Civic and drive a 70 foot combination the next day.
      The one thing that we are strict about is tow rating (SAE J2807). Our tow ratings are much lower than the same vehicle would have in other parts of the world.

    9m/30 feet is not big for a caravan/travel trailer and 2,200 kg is barely any weight. It may be big by UK standards, but it is a light mid-size by North American standards. My truck (conventional tow rating of 15t) wouldn't even notice it.

    Mark I think you are so correct they were the correct van for site but don’t think Bailey sold many. However if I was going to be permanently sited that is the van I would choose.

    We used to have a Roma GT 822 which was 27 foot and then the drawbar on top. Plated for 3 ton if I remember correctly, obviously it was a "living" van but we did tow it about every year to live at different locations (on proper campsites) unusually, it had an end bathroom.
    That was a uk built bespoke 'van. Unfortunately they are not always accepted on a lot of sites due to stigma

      We use a normal caravan transport company who have flat bed lorries

    • @juliestoakes1065
      @juliestoakes1065 Рік тому

      Me too, I can't imagine what would be different between it being towed and carried on a flatbed with stiff truck suspension, unless they support the caravan chassis front and rear AND isolate the suspension.
      At 2.1 tonnes it isn't much more than our old Elddis and most proper 4x4 would pull it but again a pick up would likely introduce too much flex in the A frame. Out of interest, what is the noseweight?

    • @rich7447
      @rich7447 3 місяці тому

      We just tow trailers bigger than this. I'm picking a car hauler trailer up from Georgia (750 miles from me) next month that is 4 feet longer than this and rated at 7t GVM/GVWR. My F450 won't even notice it.

    Great video Mark, as you said they were not designed for Towing as this makes them leak , do you think that is the same for all caravans ie The more you Tow them around the more chance is of them creating leaks ???

    • @thecaravanplace
      @thecaravanplace  Рік тому +2

      Normal vans should be fine, it was just the shear size of these as they flexed far too much when towed.

    If it can't be towed; what's the point? Up to last uear, I regularly pulled a 40' van. Tri axle, set back on the chassis and really well built. Needless to say, it wasn't UK built. For some reason, axles are set on the half-way point slong the chassis, making them awful to pull. I like a strong, well-built American trailer, at least twin axle, preferably triple with a rear steer. They're much better equipped too.

    I was ALWAYS told by many people , ' Caravan Dealers ' never buy 2 types of caravan. 1 : ex display forecourt still being sold as New, as after hundreds of people have been in and out of it makes the interiors look like a 3 years old van. Also never buy a caravan that has been used as a ' seasonal ' van. These vans have been heavily used and will look like it. Note to anyone thinking of going seasonal by the way, there's a growing list of caravan parks will not accept caravans over 10 years old.

    • @nicothechihuahua3167
      @nicothechihuahua3167 Рік тому +2

    • @Dusty2feathers
      @Dusty2feathers Рік тому +2

      @@nicothechihuahua3167 depends on the class of site. My local site was a classic caravan park with a great clubhouse with first rate cabaret. Then over the last 10-15 years it transformed into an expensive upmarket site with no atmosphere and no soul and rip off prices, and brought in ridiculous rules and rates for the seasonal tribe.

    A touring caravan like that I could easily live in I'm sorry that Bailey are not continually making this size touring caravan now we're out of Europe German caravans are not much good with the money exchange rate Bailey could do really well making these again the only one thing I would change is to breakfast bar for a table and chairs
