Cole young is dumb so as mileena in movie . Raiden actor don't look impressive . Sonya , jax , Liu Kang and obiviosly kano did great job . According to mk rule choosen one can't be harmed out of the tournament but this movie screwed that all . Overall I still love cast and story of mk 1995 . Though reboot is atleast better than mk annihilation
Yeah I love Scorpion and Subzeo but they are not rlly the main chars of MK, they are defo the poster boys/mascots of MK, but plotwise the main chars always will be Liu Kang and Kung Lao to me.
Fully agreed. The entire conflict of all of Mortal Kombat is between these two: Liu Kang and Shang Tsung, that is why MK Aftermath was such a perfect story

I know. Plus, they had him angered over losing his girlfriend in a shooting. In the games and the first MK movie, Liu's reason for revenge on Shang Tsung is the death of his brother, Chan(Chow in the game version).
The dynamic camera angles, background music, slow motion, high quality choreography that actually has kung fu, emotional tension of Liu Kang trying to save his younger brother's soul .... this fight was so much better than 2021

Everyone on this cast really nailed their roles honestly, when I first watched this after playing the game, the nostalgia I got seeing how the actors were with these characters really wowed me.
love it or hate it, 1995 MK got the spirit of the original games right despite the lack fatality and Scorpion/Sub-Zero dumbed down. it embraced its cheesy roots with a wink in the eye and everyone was perfectly cast, better pacing, simple but effective storytelling where the lore felt more organic (no Arcana BS), and a killer soundtrack. the finale amps me up for a fight everytime lol. it was just overall a more enjoyable experience. i'm not even an MK fan, but was compelled to dig deeper after watching the reboot. yes they got a lot of things right from a movie fan perspective, but a lot of things wrong too

Rewatched this movie after watching the 2021 version... this film still beats the newer Mortal Kombat for me. Character motivations that are explicitly told, character arcs that are fulfilled, and an ending that felt earned.
A part of why the characters story are fulfilled is due to the fact of a well balanced in the amount of characters. The 2021, much like Annialation, had so many characters that you are just not sure who to follow nor do you get a chance to learn or get to know the characters. This one film having only Liu Kang, Sonya, and Johnny Cage being the main focus really was enough.

It’s hard to flesh out your characters and make sure everyone has an arc that’s believable and feels authentic and actually allows the characters to breathe and for the actors to show more of their chemistry. Although the special effects in this film are admittedly outdated, it still stands for me, as the strongest live action Mortal Kombat film. That’s not to say the 2021 film was all that bad. I think there was certainly some things that work, but I also think there are some ideas they need to abandon and rather focus their efforts on writing likable and great characters. The lore behind it is there, they just need better dialogue and character moments.

He's Ng Chin Han when he's at full power, then becomes Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa when he's losing the fight and losing his grip on the souls he possesses. There's similar moments to this in Willow, Revenge of the Sith, and Big Trouble in Little China, so it's a bit derivative but for Shang Tsung, it kinda makes sense.

Liu gave Shang Tsung such an azz whoopin that he turned his life around, changed his name, moved to hawaii, became a surfing legend, and eventually stopped the feud between the sky's and urchins...

Kitana looks just perfect here. I'll never get used to the asian look she has now in MK11. As a Kitana fan, I grew up with Talisa Soto's look, which influenced Kitana's face in lots of games back then. What I also loved was the interracial relationship between her and Liu Kang.

He matched the description of Liu Kang perfectly. I grew up watching HK Cinema in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Robin Shou hadn't appeared until late 80s and early 90s including Steven Ho who played Liu Kang young brother. Steven Ho appeared in Jet Li movie twice; The Master and Dragon Fight.
I always like how Shang Tsung's warriors are from different time periods, and the way they are covered in ancient dust. I also like how they burst through the stone floors to come out. In fact, everything about this movie is great.

I love the edit starting at :33. Both Shang and Lui Kang use their left elbows for attack and defense, and the result is two quick edits flowing into a fight scene shot differently where both elbows connect. It's so fluid that it's easy to miss, but goddamn that is some excellent editing prowess.

@@Alysa-Aiday Basically he's saying in the first part of a boss fight you fight them in their regular form then they pull some type of power up bullshit or minions in this case lol. Then they try to mind fuck you at the end but you stay focused and finish them.

Kitana looks just perfect here. I'll never get used to the asian look she has now in MK11. As a Kitana fan, I grew up with Talisa Soto's look, which influenced Kitana's face in lots of games back then. What I also loved was the interracial relationship between her and Liu Kang.
I kind of assumed she was meant to be Asian in the old games since she is a ninja(though a ninja from another realm).

As much as I enjoyed the new Mk movie it’ll never even come close to hype levels of this scene when I saw this in the cinema. People were really into this once the song played. Robin Shou as Liu Kang is still the best live action one imo and Cary Hiroyuki is the best Shang Tsung

Robin was good actor for Liu kang
He matched the description of Liu Kang perfectly. I grew up watching HK Cinema in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Robin Shou hadn't appeared until late 80s and early 90s including Steven Ho who played Liu Kang young brother. Steven Ho appeared in Jet Li movie twice; The Master and Dragon Fight.

I love the edit starting at :33. Both Shang and Lui Kang use their left elbows for attack and defense, and the result is two quick edits flowing into a fight scene shot differently where both elbows connect. It's so fluid that it's easy to miss, but goddamn that is some excellent editing prowess.
