Gotta give props to Johnny in this scene. Somehow he managed to walk back to Shang Tsung’s island after being teleported to the Netherrealm which is quite literally a different dimension
Perhaps the portal back to Earth was in the same spot as where he entered. I mean, that's where I'd look first. And if not, then perhaps there's a perimeter to the place. If he walks far enough, maybe you end up walking through the edge and you're back on Earth.
I saw this movie as a kid. Scorpion was always my favorite. Hearing Ed Boon’s “get over here!”, “come here!”, the surprising “WELCOME!”, and “Get down here!” still sends chills down my spine all these years later. Despite Scorpion getting defeated, this was the BEST fight scene in the movie. Reptile’s is a close second. That head stomp was epic!
Its amazing that this fight was supposed to end in the forest, but after negative reviews, they added this fight before it went to the theatres. Not only that, but Reptile wasnt supposed to fight Liu Kang (they added that fight too). Both of those fights were added by a new fight choreographer (the first guy couldnt make it) named Robin Shou, and he did a lot better.
So for those of you who don't know, the reason why there are literally only two good fights in this movie is because the studio cut the budget to the movie right before filming. According to Paul W.S. Anderson who directed the film, this meant that every single fight needed to be stripped down from what they were supposed to be, in fact the original fight between Johnny Cage was supposed to end shortly after Johnny Shadow Kicks Scorpion as that kick would've killed him. When they showed the film to test audiences they flat out said that the fights sucked. So Paul was able to get a little extra money to reshoot only two fight scenes, Liu Kang VS Reptile and Johnny Cage VS Scorpion. So thank those test audiences that had the gumption to talk shit about this movie so many years ago for this fight scene.
I actually thought all the fights kicked ass. Reptile and Scorpion were the best, but I still love Subzero's cold head turn, and Shang's "you fool!" spit real blood moment.
Even when I was a kid those two fights seemed oddly different from the rest of the movie. I wracked my brain trying to understand why but I just didn't know enough about film back then.
This Johnny Cage was perfectly portrayed by Linden Ashby, full of himself, confident, funny, a lil clumsy, kind of an asshole, but when it comes to fight, he knows how to fight.
Who’s here after the latest Mortal Kombat movie? The new Scorpion and Sub Zero fight scene is amazing. Hiroyuki Sanada and Joe Taslim was superb, but there is something about Linden Ashby vs Chris Casamassa (Johnny Cage and Scorpion) that will forever have a place in my heart.
Saw this as a kid, and just seeing the 2021 when scorpion first appears to fight sub zero while hearing the iconic song; some reason came close to tearing up.
I work a theater, and a guy in his 40's came in yesterday with a pretty damn accurate 90's MK Scorpion outfit. When I complimented him on it, he chilled with me for a second and talked shop about how he'd 3D printed the mask. Every time someone walked down the hall towards their movie, he'd shout "WELCOME". Probably the funniest shit I've had happen there in a long time.
I remember watching this with my friends at the theater and discussing this scene. We argued over whether or not Johnny Cage did his shadow kick when he went through the portal. Nostalgia overload
This comment is perfect! 😂 same! For my own wanting to see it live action, I always considered it his shadow kick, even if the opposite could be argued lol

This one scene completely changed my life.
Literally one of my top 10 favorite movies ever. I was a gigantic mortal konbat fan in the 90s and early 2000s. This movie is nostalgia overload for people of the 90s.
Things I loved as a kid, but only truly appreciate as an adult: The setting. The forest is beautiful. The hell scene is littered with skeletons and spikes, and ladders and details.... It must have taken an enormous team to build all of that.

All the little things fans of the game appreciate, yet doesn't interfere with the flow for the non-fan casually watching it.
Not only that, they were in _so much shit_ during this era of entertainment. Tons of video games ( _Carmageddon,_ _MESSIAH_ to name a couple,) it felt like Fear Factory was one of those bands that was the soundtrack to my teenage years. Definitely got me into industrial, for sure.

Seen it as a child but after watching the MK 2021 and then rewatching this movie made me feel like cringe😅 The fight scenes of Scorpion, Sub-zero, Kano in MK 2021 are much better than this. The only thing I hated in the movie is Cole Young. They should've used Johnny Cage or if they were looking for younger characters, they could've used Takeda, Kung Jin, young Kenshi or maybe even Kuai Liang.
That's funny, my brother and I used to do the same thing while watching this movie. I still remember we had this movie on VHS. We had the best childhood. God, I miss the 90s. Those were the days...
Scorpion: "Welcome!" *PUNCHES FACE* I love how brutal and relentless Scorpion was. He doesn't give af. He'll elbow you in the face, trip you, then immediately proceed to stomping you out 😤👌
My favorite part. Knowing you've been sent through some abysmal portal, and just taking in that setting with so little time. Then hearing "Welcome", all you can process from that is that you're on his terf. He doesn't even give you time to be scared! Just PUNCH! Right in the face followed by a brutal asswhoopin.
It's the same as the reptile fight later on in the movie, both Scorpion and Reptile were relentlessly aggressive and didn't give their opponents any chance to focus or think beyond 'how do I deal with the next attack'.
I remember just dying at the bit where Scorpion says "Welcome" and just sucker punches the shit outta Johnny Cage as a kid. Thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen.
Johnny was portrayed in the first part of this movie like a goofball, cracking jokes. Then gets thrown into a big boy battle against Scorpion and holds his own. I honestly didn't expect this level of skill out of him to go against Scorpion.
But his fight against Goro and scorpion were kinda portrayed to be cheap and unfair. He hit goro in the nuts and then pushed him off a cliff. Then he had to pick up a random shield and spear in order to defeat scorpion. I think that was the intention they wanted to show. He won, but won unfairly.
@@HappyBeezerStudios I’m not sure if scorpion is actually much bigger than Johnny, even in canon. But scorpion is by far much more dangerous and deadly than him in cannon.
@@Senator-KO I mean Scorpion can shoot a living metallic serpentine mouth out of his hand, breath fire and teleport Johnny to an alternate dimension he's never heard of, let alone been to. I think Johnny using the environment to his advantage proves his capability actually.
@@farid1406 I know it may seem like I dislike Johnny, but he’s definitely my favorite MK character. I’ve always loved his sense of humor, and his sarcasm. Even though he’s definitely not the best fighter, he is easily the most hilarious one. Very unfortunate he never made it into the remake.
Nyah Senai I thought it was bamboo too, but there’s no knots on the poles. I think it’s just supposed to look like bamboo Movie people: How can we make this scene scary? Movie writers and producers: Dude, we could like set up a bunch of cardboard tubes into scaffolding and ladders with spider webs all over them! Yeah bro that’d be creepy as fuck!
I remember seeing this in the theatre, and Johnny Cage's friendship took everyone by surprise and over the top...lots of laughter and clapping into the next scene.
@@Swisha16 nah it would definitely have taken away a lot from it but it was such a memorable movie especially for the time. The boat scene with scorpion and sub zero, arriving at the tournament the guest fight, Johnny vs goro , sub zero sparring the guy to death. Honestly I could name a bunch of scenes that are basically core memories lol. I get what you’re saying though those two fights were probably the best but the they did a lot with very little I think is an underrated movie. Growing up playing MK on sega this movie blew my mind when it came out lol.
Kano was pretty decent too. Just his character and the eye was legit! But the boat scene. The intro of sub and scorpion was chilling! But had they not included the two fights the movie would have been lacking.
4:55 This fatality is what really made this movie. The directors really got the characters and understood the tone. Scenes like this where he drops his autographed photo and the scene where reptile becomes alive and the video game voice announces him is just so clutch.
Fun Fact: The stunt double for Johnny Cage is "JJ Perry." JJ Perry directed the Vampire movie Day Shift (with Jamie Foxx). He currently directed "The Killer's Game" - set to release in theaters September....starring Dave Bautista.
It’s no coincidence that the two best fights of the movie involve Reptile, and these two in this video. That 3 piece combo Scorpion gave Johnny with the sweep at the end was epic 😂
@@IGSA101Nah they did SZ dirty. His fight he was basically on the back foot the whole thing. Constantly running away. Missed opportunity as he was the 'other' badass
Although the 95 Mortal Kombat movie had to tone down the gore, I feel that this movie is perfect for what it is. It captured the spirit of the characters, the setting and the game itself really well. Linden Ashby was great as Johnny Cage and this fight along with Liu Kang vs Reptile were excellent as well.
@@stephenotoole408 lol all good, I was binging MK movies last year because of such haha. But yeah 95 MK movie will be 30 soon, hopefully they have a special edition!

Man, this is a fight scene done right. Look at that real set with real lights! Look at that real dust falling off the floor when Scorpion gets body slammed! Look at this great balance of wide, medium, and POV shots. I really feel like I'm getting stomped at 2:30. This fight choreography with the sound effects really sell the pain - that kick to the dome at 2:32, Jeezus! Throw in some kick ass thrash metal and top it off with a fire-breathing skeleton that bleeds lava and explodes, how does it get any better?
That's Linden Ashby. He brought some character growth to Cage from being obsessed in proving the tabloids wrong to seeing the gravity of Earth's fate if they lose Mortal Kombat.

Did anyone else see this as a kid and then as an adult and realize that to this day, this is still the greatest mortal kombat fight scene of all time between all live action movies that exist? This shit gets me every time.
Yeah, this fight was actually my favorite because it was closer to an all-out street fight.
Not bad. The fight at the end of the new one is good too. (When Cole's not involved) Kung Fu movies are better though.
Not only is it the best mortal Kombat movie by far! It's just a dope action/martial arts movie with some really good choreography! 🔥👊🏽 I saw this in Theaters! I was speechless lol
I remember watching this movie years ago and audience cheering the moment when Johnny tosses autograph on the ground.
Seen it as a child but after watching the MK 2021 and then rewatching this movie made me feel like cringe😅
The fight scenes of Scorpion, Sub-zero, Kano in MK 2021 are much better than this. The only thing I hated in the movie is Cole Young. They should've used Johnny Cage or if they were looking for younger characters, they could've used Takeda, Kung Jin, young Kenshi or maybe even Kuai Liang.

Scorpion: "Welcome!"
*PUNCHES FACE*
I love how brutal and relentless Scorpion was.
Scorpion knows how to host a welcome party
That's exactly 𝘸𝘩𝘺 I don't like Scorpion, and instead I like Sub-Zero. But I understand your point, and why so many love him. :)
😂😂😂😂
@@Senator-KO Or he won with smarts against bigger opponents.

Movie people: How can we make this scene scary?
Movie writers and producers:
Dude, we could like set up a bunch of cardboard tubes into scaffolding and ladders with spider webs all over them!

They filmed it in Tibet(?). It seems there were so many lights on the set that the pilots flying overhead got confused a bit.
And there would be tons of cuts, making impossible for viewers to tell what the hell was going on.

This and the Reptile fight were easily the best scenes in the whole movie
And ironically, those were the two fights that were added on to the film. It wasn't even in the script.
@@samcalderas870 If those 2 fights were never in this movie, this movie would've been completely forgettable in my opinion.
@@Swisha16 nah it would definitely have taken away a lot from it but it was such a memorable movie especially for the time. I get what you’re saying though those two fights were probably the best but the they did a lot with very little I think is an underrated movie. @@zack6892 Yeah I rewatched the movie a few weeks ago and it's better than I remember for sure. Those 2 fights still kinda carry the movie though imo.

Let's talk about slapping whoever actually green lit that idea
And it comes out of a gaping hole on his hand... Gross.
You all realize this was before they started giving him a chain. During the classic games it just looked like a spearhead attached to a rope. But in this movie's case they made it a snake coming straight out his hand. Because why the hell not.
