Thanks for making this video. Because i found out something else. I must say it’s weird searching for info for such an incredible piece of kit released in 2014. Most vids are nothing under 4 years . lol
Thanks, I didn’t know these existed. I can never find any videos demonstrating the difference sound quality between a UA-cam mic and just using your iPhone mic, would luv to see that.
Thanks for your video! I purchase mine last year and haven't used it with my computer yet. I didn't mind having to purchase the memory card separately. I was able to find a good deal and I chose a higher storage card.
It's not too bad finding a good one. I just liked the packaging of the original DR-05 even though it's not the fastest card. Thanks for watching Bobby!
Great review! Worth mentioning though that the mic power refers to phantom power, typically 48v output. Leaving the mic power on when connecting a mic that doesn't require phantom power could damage it. If you only use mics that require power then this shouldn't be an issue, but connecting a mic that either doesn't require phantom power / has it's own power supply could damage it. Other than that thanks for such an in depth walkthrough of the menus!
Thanks for the info......is there a difference in the final sound quality in the video if you use a lapel mic with this.....or any other portable audio recorder.
Yes you can greatly increase the sound quality by connecting a lapel mic to the tascam. It will do a better job at isolating your subject unless you're in a quiet room and have this on a stand, then you're okay as well
@@WendyPowellJones I use the Power DeWise lapel mic. It comes with your standard foam windscreen but you can also buy the bigger "dead cat" style that you see on larger mics

Hey man. the first video on the Dr05 I click on sounded like hell, so I stopped here. Your audio...even if it was a phone mic sounded so much better than the journalism major in the first video. I think I heard about 3second of your audio and decided that I would watch all of this even if it did not match what I was looking for. I really apricate the time and effort it takes to produce good sound. My wireless mic died while I was producing a video right now, about half way through and I had to dig out my old DR05 to probably ADR the whole first half of my BTS....AHHHH! Great work
Hi Sho. Thanks for the nice video. I have a question. In one of the comments you said you use your Note10+ with TASCAM using a lapel mike or the in built mike of the Tascam. How would you merge the audio from the TASCAM with the video from Note10+ or do you connect the lapel to the Tascam and then connect the TASCAM to the Note10+ and if so what cables do you use? If you could make a video on this, it will be useful for first timers like me. Nevertheless this is a great video that you made. Thanks.
Great question. It's a very quick process. There is no need for connecting the tascam to the note. Just have to hit record on both devices and sync them up in your video editing software
Agree about the complexity... but like with anything.. once learned 😻 ... remember you are holding a recording studio in your hands... even with a tuner... Hey there, I have this recorder and have not been able to use it just yet as the playback seems slow and as if it might be recorded in slow motion. sloooow moootiooon. Really weird. Do you have any idea why this is happening? Any help would be appreciated! thanks!
I’m sorry I probably worded it wrong I wanted to use this with my iPhone for videos. Do you know how that’s possible? For instance with the blue yeti I plug it into my cell phone with the adapter and I am able to use it as a microphone.
The mic on your phone isn't bad either from what I'm hearing now. What phone is it? Anyway I plan on getting a DR-05X for my videos but I want to use the recorder as an audio interface for my iPhone through it's USB output. I really hope that will work out well because I don't want to have to sync an external audio file in post.

Hi I have recently got some vinyl decks, can I record my mixes onto this Tascam? if so how do I do it? I need a cable to go into the Tascam to record. Will it show me the levels?
Good video.... thanks.👍 Can I use this for adjusting mic levels/gains/limits when plugged into my GoPro.... but without actually recording to the DR-05? I need the adjustments but want to record straight to the GoPro. I’m hoping that the gains/levels are active without pressing record. Thanks for any help.
ShoAndTech I mean the headphone/line out. It should work without having to record, right? External mic to DR-05 and then 3.5mm line out from DR-05 to GoPro.... with active level/gain adjustments working without recording on DR-05. Correct?
ShoAndTech Yeah, after reading and watching more videos, I see it’s called “Record Enable”. It should allow me to do what I need in that mode. Thanks, bro. 👍
Is there a way that voice can be transcribed to text? And: Are any 3.5mm cables (and adapters) actually essential to have, e.g. to record to mobile? Many thanks!
This is actually a really good option for you. All of the videos on my channel are recorded with my Note 10+ and I use the tascam either with a lapel mic or just the built in mics. In my most recent Videos they were all just the built in mic as it has the most natural sound
