I’m replacing my tascam dr40 with this. Dr40 quit reading cards, a problem and tascam said not worth fixing. 05 has mono, which dr40 didn’t have, many of the functions are similar, looking forward to receiving mine. Nice demo tutorial.

Very nice playing and recording. Don't mind me asking. What the build quality is like please. Thank you. I've got a Dr-60d. But eats batteries like in 10 minutes so I need a better 1. Absolutely nothing wrong with it it's just nuts so quickly. And if you use a psu plugged into the wall and get a hum. And I have a good cable tester. Absolutely crazy how many cables I have don't pass the test stop even the one with ferrite beads. I mean they're safe to use though just not shielded properly. So you can get noise sometimes.
I have an entry level DSLR that has no mic input, and a built in mono audio recorder. . I don’t have a proper mic for my laptop. I bought the Tascam DR-05x and really like it. I picked up a lav mic along with a 128gig card.
For the camera, I bought a shock mount that comes with a cold shoe adapter, and another to attach the Tascam to the mount and the cold shoe. It is a Movo SMM5-B Universal Microphone and Portable Recorder Shock Mount from Amazon. So I’m hands free after I press record on the unit. I just bought all this, so I have to figure out how to sync the audio with video. Since I have this, I can place the Tascam on a Manfrotto Pixel tripod on a desk.
Great unit, love the recoded audio from it. Far superior to what I had before, and I’m sure it beats some of the regular audio input mic’s for digital cameras.
Can you do some kind of overdub (recording over a pre-recorded audio that is playing at the same time of the recording?
How do you connect the recording with effects with the camera? Thanks

Hi! Can you maybe use this as a microphone for you smartphone?
In the BROWSE menu, I don't see how to create folders except within the MUSIC folder. Is there no way to do this? When I do it on the computer, in "SD card reader mode" they don't show up on the unit. Also, how do you determine which folder your recordings go into?
hi, I can't connect the dr-05x to mac/pc. Either as sd card reader or audio interface both not working. Is it working on yours?

Tascams are underrated. They pick up a good mix of lows and highs, so it's the best choice for quick and easy recordings.

Please tell me - How to record audio in mode "TREBLE+" ? I want record song-covers with high frequencies, but the equalizer can only be set to output.
At the beginning of the video, the guitar sounds very beautiful, I try to achieve the same sound.
The "EQ" is not really an equalizer. It is six presets, of which you can choose only ONE: Increased treble, decreased treble, increased midrange, decreased midrange, increased bass, or decreased bass. The last selection you are on when you press OK and exit the EQ menu is what you get.
When trying to record voice at one foot distance, I need to set input level at 70 to achieve -12db, is this normal with Tascam DR-05x? I don't know if mine works well.
Mine is muted for some reason and I can’t unmute it, I have tried going to the IO settings and turning the speaker on and off- it still shows the muted speaker icon top right- any suggestions?

I brought a Tascam DR-05X and spent hours trying to download files onto my PC. In frustration I decided to buy a new memory card the one I was using was from an old phone. That fixed all the problems I was using an old corrupted card. Before you waste hours trying to figure out what is wrong spend a few dollars buy a new card.
With this unit, what's the best way to record 2 people at the same time?
It looks like you would have to lean in very close to the on board
mics to get a decent voice recording and in these current times it's not
a great thing for 2 people to be doing. Is there an external mic
solution to this where we can be further apart? Thanks :)
You could use a Comica Boom XD D2. It has two wireless mics, one feeding the left channel and one feeding the right channel. Or a Comica Dual Lav which combines two lav mics into a stereo output.
Please tell me if you have experienced a radio interference problem with the Tascam DR-05? For example if you record close to a router or amplificators. I've seen a lot of people complaining about that in UA-cam. I like the audio quality and rich low freq that the Tascam has, but with that problem being so common, idk...
if the DR-05 is taped right next to a handheld wireless mic, it will pick up interference from the wireless transmitter
any idea how to get decent quality into audacity? The interface works but the recording quality is terrible. anyone know the settings? thanks

Great review - I am replacing my ancient ZOOM H1 from 12 years ago (getting a bit wobbly!!) - and was considering the odd-looking ZOOM H1n...but, after your review - I think I might grab the TASCAM DR-05x. I think he said WAVs. The extension on Windows is .wav so it makes as much sense as saying wave.

It would have been nice to know exactly how long a set of batteries last. Also, there was no comment about the build quality. I experience with the existing Tascam recorders is they are plastic and are not very robust.
It uses "AA"s so rechargeables are super cheap, and it can be powered by the USB port.
Why do I get a lot of digital noise in my recordings? Sound is reminiscent of a dial up modem after connecting to it...
What would you recommend the recorder to be set at if your recording a full band aspect?

the none "X" DR-05 model could also be used as a two in and two out I/F using the PC's 3.5 jack aux-in.. so what's difference with the "X"..!?
The X model has much better electromagnetic shielding, in the first version it had huge problems with phones, routers etc... And the interface is slightly different and the backlight changed color
what is the difference between this 05X and the 05?
1, Micro USB rather than Mini USB jack. 2, ability to use as a USB microphone DIRECTLY in to the PC. 3, 128Gb max card capacity. More complete details are @ 4:09 in the video.
How do you hear what you recorded without running it through a computer?
I believe it has live headphone output when recording.

The whole time he was on the guitar that was the recording of the Tascam... He had it set via USB to record and was recording the sound from it directly.

Be aware that these do NOT come with an sd card , and the ones they recommend are very expensive … adding over 50% of the price to the unit …. They don’t tell you this in the advertising … grrrr!!!
Glossed over the tone function, auto tone , tone secs. "Head+ tail", whatever TF that means...
