When I was younger I thought that thinking deeply was all there was to Fiona. As I get older I appreciate how deeply everything she writes is FELT. I think most people lack in one of those areas if they are deep in another, but not her.
@@monkeyattackedmyass5435 firstly, Fiona Apple does not write pop music. Secondly, how does her being too smart for her own good make her crazy? This women is a genius.
@@monkeyattackedmyass5435 attaining popularity and making pop music are not the same thing at all. You said she writes good pop songs. How rude of you to imply this musical genius should be chalked up to her one real top40/ALT-ROCK hit and also dismissed because she is a thinker that sees through a lot of bullshit and speaks her mind.
I find the criminal video interesting in that Fiona's character looks submissive and meek, yet calculated. However, from the interviews I've seen of Fiona, she is totally not like that at all. I feel like any sort of backlash from that video was because people allowed themselves to be fooled by her character. I think that is what she is saying here. People don't critisize actors for playing a role that's different from who they are because that's their job. I don't understand why people would put music videos to a higher standard of staying true to the artist's character. Music videos can be just as charming and unrealistic as movies. Btw, why the hell does this video have more dislikes? Where are my fellow Fiona fans? XD
TheGodYouWishYouKnew HAHAHAHA omg I know the interview is 20 years old (give or take) but MTV is posting the interview NOW. It takes FOR FOREVER for Fiona to make albums so I am hoping (probably not true but hoping) that MTV may be posting this as a hint?!?! They are less focused on music nowadays but a person can dream.
While I agree with Fiona’s POV, it remains a very good song. The Tidal album is phenomenal. All her work is. I am surprised to see this come up after so many years of her distancing herself from it. For whatever reason, it shows up in my feed often. Anyone who knows anything about Fiona Apple knows that she is the antithesis of the character in the Criminal video…
Yeah... because you totally "know" Fiona Apple. There's nothing more creepy than people thinking they "know" what kind of person a celebrity is (i.e. a perfect stranger whom they know nothing about). It's the most narcissistic western behavior I can think of, and it's so pervasive these days.
The way the click bait title is phased has little to do with what Fiona is expressing. Either that or she is subverting this question (if it was actually asked to her prior) to be more real about it.
Yes, her character in Criminal gets all the boys to the yard, because she's eighteen. It would be interesting to do do a follow up song when the character is forty-one.
Why does this comment have 2 likes? 😆 So an older man is what. A prize? Lmao and btw a woman of BOTH ages can easily get any man, because she's a woman. A man of ANY age can't say the same. That was her point. Bye 💅
@@angeleyeszarai Maybe 2 likes because I made a halfway decent point? Yes, a woman of either age can get any... low status man. But the younger woman has the edge when chasing a Johny Depp (a prize, even at his age). And the video implies she's at a very exclusive party - young women and rich/famous guys only! I'm not judging, just saying how the world works. And I think Fiona Apple is an awesome singer/songwriter.

She can put together a good pop song, but let's face it, she's crazy. Actually crazy.
Yes she is razor sharp in both. An artistic prodigy, really.

Fiona fans technically are not into social media or selfies etc for that matter, they're probably reading in a nook somewhere.
Because it mentions the "male gaze" as if it's a negative thing, even though it's the only reason why any of us exist.
@@davecarsley8773 only reason? care to elaborate?
@davecarsley8773 lol it's not the male gaze why we exist 🤣🤣 that's completely different thing
The most amazing artist ever! I just love Fiona Apple so much

Nice re-appropriation, there, MTV.

Loooove fiona apple so much
hands down to MTV from the 90's perfection everywhere the content , the ads , the music , fantastic !!!
She's implying that the girl was a pompous privileged prick. Pretty much the opposite of what MTV is trying to say. Disastrous title.
she understands so much it's incredible, i love her. also, this vid title is appropriate. dunno wtf these other douches are talking about.
I love Fiona Apple... does this mean a new album is coming out?!?! One can only hope
