    Thanks for the info guys. Here in the uk I ordered the brown base/gold style mirrors. Be warned…there may be a drastic difference between what you are expecting to get on the strength of this video, and what you actually receive. Mine are simply too mirrored and too dark from the outside looking in…from my viewpoint the tint is very subtle without any ambient UV present indoors, in fact hardly darkened at all.…it just looks to everybody else that I’m wearing shades indoors…Jake and Elwood blues brothers style 😎!

      You make a great point! These are not for everyone, and at times times the mirror can make it harder for others to see your eyes even indoors in the 'clear' phase. They sure do make for a stylish look though for those who like the light fashion indoor tints, and they make great sunglasses while spending time outdoors.

    Great video! Question for you experts. I usually get regular glasses with anti glare (AR). This is the first time I’m looking into transition glasses and want the silver shadow. If I choose transition with silver mirror, I cannot get AR, correct? Or does it have some AR features?

    • @HicksBrunsonEyewear
      @HicksBrunsonEyewear  3 роки тому +4

      Thank you Saul! To answer your question about AR with Transitions Mirrors you are on the right track. It does have some AR features. More specifically, you can not put AR on the front of the lens because that’s where the mirror coating is, however Transitions Style Mirrors include an AR coating on the back of the lens. This backside AR coating prevents reflections in the backside of the the lenses.

I currently have the XTRActive lenses in gray (2 yrs old) and am looking at the Style Mirrors for my new pair. These are my primary pair of glasses, so personally I am used to the rate of transition back to clear from full dark. @HicksBrunson. I have the Transitions XTRActive Style Mirror blue color and I have issues using it indoors because the AR coating on the back of the lens will only kick in when the lenses darkens (transitions activated). In clear state there is too much reflection on the back side of the lenses especially when indoors with so much office lighting. I hope this issue will be resolved in the future. It would be nice if the AR is always activated even if the lenses are in a clear color.

    • @HicksBrunsonEyewear

      Your experience is normal, and this is why we say that we love Transitions Style Mirrors, but they are just not for everyone. The physics of light reflecting off of mirrored lenses lenses is complicated. Mirrors are reflective, and reflections are more noticeable as you pointed out when the lenses are clear, even with the backside anti-reflective coating. Some people are bothered by those reflections, but many are not. We made another video that addresses this topic here: ua-cam.com/video/Ag29dB3G8vM/v-deo.htmlsi=8YdE2UTx4nhTTrU_

Personally I would recommend as daily wear for desk jobs/ students and a secondary non transition for evenings off/ out on the weekend. One of the best videos... Thanks for all the info. But I've got a question... Do all style mirror lenses come with an AR coating in the back of the lens ? I bought a pair of blue ones but it's kind of hard to wear them indoors. They do reflect bright overhead lights and it's not comfortable at all.

    • @HicksBrunsonEyewear
      @HicksBrunsonEyewear  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! The answer is yes. Style Mirrors all come with a backside AR coating, however the presence of the mirror on the front will still reflect some light from some angles. That’s why we generally like them the best for a second pair worn while spending a lot of time outdoors. Some folks seem to do fine with them as their primary pair though, so it depends on the person.

      Hello Seth. The mirror on the front will still cause some noticeable reflections on the back. This is the case even though there should be an anti-reflective coating on the back as there is on all of the ones we make. There is no way around the physics of this. Mirrors cause reflections on both sides. I have made a separate video where I explain all of this in detail. See here: ua-cam.com/video/Ag29dB3G8vM/v-deo.html

    Awesome video - Thank you! I am interested in brown lenses with silver or blue style mirror. While these are not among your preferred combinations, would it be a bad choice? Based upon what I see, I think the silver would partially mute the appearance of the brown tint while indoors and the blue would cause the brown lenses to have a slight teal or green cast while indoors. Is this consistent with what you have seen in practice?

    • @HicksBrunsonEyewear
      @HicksBrunsonEyewear  2 роки тому

      I have never seen those combinations, so I can’t speak to what the brown color would look like. When you step outside the official Style Mirrors colors you are customizing the lenses and results may vary. Check out my other video where I show what happened when we used a solid purple mirror on an XTRActive Grey. The result was not desirable. You may be fine with your combination as long as the mirror is a flash mirror and not a solid mirror, but since I have not seen this I can’t say for sure what it will look like.

    Is it typical for a Style Mirror Gold lens to appear mirrored on both sides when clear? The backside mirror is so prominent that it is near unusable indoors.

    • @HicksBrunsonEyewear
      @HicksBrunsonEyewear  Рік тому

      It may appear mirrored on back side depending on the angle that light is reflecting off of the backside of the lens. You can move the lenses around at different angles, and you may see the mirror coating and the AR coating at the same time. It all depends on where the light is coming from. Anytime you have a mirror on a clear lens there will be more noticeable reflections than there would be on a lens that has a full anti-reflective coating. In my experience fitting and wearing these lenses I have found that some folks are bothered by these reflections and some are not. Sometimes the frame can be adjusted closer to the face, and possibly have some wrap added that will reduce the visible reflections.

      Congratulations on your recent purchase! First let me say I think you’re going to love them. They can work just fine as a primary pair. I just wouldn’t recommend them as you’re only pair until you’ve worn them in different situations such as events at night where there are a lot of lights. Some will do fine all day long with them, and some will prefer non-mirrored lenses some of the time either for the esthetics or because of the added reflections you might see from the back of the mirror. For Transition Xtractive lenses, without the Style Mirror coating, do they get a little darker indoors, if the lighting is bright? I know they already have a slight tint, but would they still get even a little darker under bright, indoor light. And would they get a little darker inside of a car, in the driver's seat?

    • @HicksBrunsonEyewear
      @HicksBrunsonEyewear  3 роки тому +1

      They will darken slightly indoors only in the presence of UV, so if you are near large windows with UV light directly coming in then they will darken slightly. Yes, they will also darken slightly behind a car windshield.

    I am a very hard person to please generally. After seeing this video, I shopped around making many phone calls here in Michigan trying to find place to get a pair. I called the Kellogg Eye Institute in Ann Arbor where they do some of the finest surgery imaginable. Their sales staff, not so much. I asked for their "most knowledgeable person" regarding Transitions lenses. Long and short of it all is the guy tried telling me - what i am describing is 2nd generation Transitions (Not). I went to the Transitions website to their list of shops that sell their product. After finding nothing but cluelessness or price gougers 'Americas Best' I figured i would take a chance calling down to Oklahoma and see what kind of price they would give me if i ordered and had mailed her to Michigan. Again, in short, but not to be overlooked is the fact they let me order frames that they do not sell, had them sent and for NO EXTRA charge, fitted them up with just what I wanted for UNDER $350 ... Mailed.
    I am SO happy.
    Thanks Guys

    I got a couple pair of titanium rimmed glasses I'm going to put some lenses in. One I am going to add clear lenses and an Optician recommended I add Crizal Sapphire coating to it. For the second, I'm thinking I would like to make into a transition sunglass and now I'm really thinking about this mirror coating. If I were to a brown tint with, perhaps, a gold mirror, what sort of (Crizal or otherwise) coating should I add? I'm thinking I don't need to go so far as to add the expensive Sapphire given that there will be this tint. What is your suggestion?
    Also, as a side note, I was also thinking about adding Drivewear Transition to yet another set of frames I have... I know... a big bill is on its way. Just wondering what sort of coating (Crizal or otherwise) I should add to this.
    Thank you for your great videos! I've subscribed as of today. Thank you!

      Hello Brian. Thank you for subscribing to our channel! As for your first question, if you add the Gold mirror to create a Transitions Style Mirrors lens, then there will automatically be an anti-reflective coating on the back side of the lens. The mirror will be on the front side. No other form of coating including Sapphire is needed or possible with the mirror coating on the front. I do recommend adding Crizal Sapphire to Transitions Drivewear as it will sharpen your image clarity and reduce reflections on the lenses.
